1999 Cadillac Escalade problems
The Cadillac Escalade is a full-size luxury SUV manufactured by General Motors and marketed by their luxury division Cadillac. It was the luxury brand's first major entry into the SUV market. The Escalade was introduced for the 1999 model year in response to an influx of new luxury SUVs in the late 1990s such as the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, Range Rover, Lexus LX, and (especially) Ford's 1998 debut of the Lincoln Navigator. The Escalade project went into production only ten months after it was approved. The Escalade is built in Arlington, Texas. The term "escalade" refers to a siege warfare tactic of scaling defensive walls or ramparts with the aid of ladders or siege towers. More generally, it is a French word which is the noun-equivalent form of the French verb escalader, which means "to climb or scale".
The Escalade is currently sold in North America and select international markets (Europe and Asia) where Cadillac has official sales channels. The Escalade ESV (Escalade Stretch Vehicle) is sold in North America, Russia, and the Middle East, but is only available by special order in some international markets. The right-hand-drive Escalade and Escalade ESV are available through third-party conversion specialists without official agreement with Cadillac in Australian, Oceanic, and Japanese markets.
On August 8, 2023, GM unveiled the Escalade IQ, an all-electric version of the Escalade, and the third model in Cadillac's EV line, after the Celestiq, and Lyriq. It is expected to go on sale in late 2024 for the 2025 model year, with a starting price of $130,000.

Common 1999 Cadillac Escalade problems
The Cadillac Escalade is a luxury SUV that has been popular since its introduction in 1999. However, like any vehicle, it has had its share of problems over the years. Here are some of the most common issues reported by owners of the 1999 Cadillac Escalade, based on complaints from owners:
Door handles: One of the most common problems reported by owners of the 1999 Cadillac Escalade is related to the door handles. Both the inside and outside door handles have been reported to break easily, with many owners reporting that the handles snap off completely. The average cost for the repair is approximately $2,800, which is a significant expense for a moderately used SUV.
Transmission: Transmission problems have also been reported by owners of the 1999 Cadillac Escalade. The transmission system can fail, causing the vehicle to have difficulty shifting gears or even stalling completely. This issue can be especially problematic in used vehicles, as new owners may not be aware of the problem until after they have purchased the car. The cost of transmission repairs can be quite high, making this a significant concern for potential buyers.
Electrical shorts: The 2002 model of the Cadillac Escalade has been reported to have undetected electrical shorts, which can cause a variety of problems with the vehicle's electrical systems. This issue can be particularly difficult to diagnose and repair, as the shorts may not be immediately apparent. Owners have reported that up to 40% of 2002 models may be affected by this problem.
Tires: The 2010 model of the Cadillac Escalade has been reported to have issues with the tires losing air or poor rim quality. This can cause the vehicle to have difficulty maintaining proper tire pressure, which can lead to a variety of problems, including decreased fuel efficiency and increased risk of tire blowouts. Owners have reported that up to 40% of 2010 models may be affected by this problem.
Ignition switch: The ignition switch in the Cadillac Escalade has been reported to fail, causing the vehicle to have difficulty starting or even refusing to start altogether. This issue can be particularly problematic in colder weather, as the switch may be more likely to fail in cold temperatures. Owners have reported that the cost of replacing the ignition switch can range from $172 to $206.
HVAC system: The HVAC system in the Cadillac Escalade has been reported to have issues with the temperature door actuator and the mode door actuator. These components are responsible for controlling the temperature and airflow in the vehicle, and when they fail, the vehicle may have difficulty maintaining a comfortable temperature. Owners have reported that the cost of replacing these components can range from $288 to $371.
It's important to note that these issues are not necessarily indicative of all 1999 Cadillac Escalades, and many owners have reported no problems with their vehicles. However, potential buyers should be aware of these common issues and consider them when making a purchasing decision. It's also important to have any used vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic before purchasing, to ensure that any potential problems are identified and addressed before they become major issues.
Is the Cadillac Escalade reliable?
According to carparts.com, the Cadillac Escalade earns average reliability ratings. The Cadillac Escalade is far from getting the highest marks in reliability. However, it's decent if you're hunting for a luxury vehicle with room inside for your family and cargo.
Do Cadillac Escalades have transmission problems?
Understanding Cadillac Escalade Transmission Problems
Some owners have reported experiencing transmission problems, which can be concerning. These problems may manifest as rough shifting, delays in gear engagement, or even complete transmission failure.
What was the original price of a 1999 Cadillac Escalade?
BASE PRICE: $45,875 plus $640 transportation.
Is Escalade made in China?
The Cadillac Escalade is only built at the GM Arlington plant in Texas, so imported models will have a long way to travel. There are currently no GM plants in China that have the ability to build body-on-frame GM vehicles like the Escalade, so manufacturing it locally is not an option at the moment.

You have one amazing vehicle! It's great to hear that you bought your Escalade with only 6000 miles on it and now it has almost 120,000 miles on it and still looks like brand new both inside and out. It's impressive that you have not had a single maintenance issue with it. Regular routine maintenance is key to keeping your vehicle in top condition. Getting it detailed every six months is a great way to keep it looking like new. I'm sure it will last another 10 years with the way you take care of it!
Tristin West 2024-10-19
The first year of the Escalade offers a lot of trim on a Yukon/Tahoe package, resulting in a very nice ride. With 19mpg Hwy mileage, it's an efficient choice. While there aren't a lot of extra electronics inside, the luxury presentation is still top-notch. The seats are especially great, and the engine still meets factory specs on compression. Finding an older model for about 1/3 of the price of new quality, large SUVs (about 45-50k) is a nice discovery, which is exactly what I was looking for.
Brock Graham 2024-10-12
I purchased this SUV used with around 40,000 miles on it. My goal was to find a comfortable and luxurious family vehicle, and that's exactly what I found. While the gas mileage isn't great, I was aware of this before purchasing. The leather seats are fantastic, the BOSE sound system is top-notch, and the entertainment system is impressive, complete with a UHF/VHF antenna on the rear side windows for local programming (a rare feature these days). Although the vehicle has required some maintenance, it has been nothing major, and the extended warranty covered it. Unfortunately, due to rising gas prices and a longer commute, it has become uneconomical for me to keep. However, I would highly recommend it to anyone with a short commute.
Brice Abernathy 2024-08-18
DRIVES LIKE A DREAM LUX. TO THE MAX LOW ROAD NOISE, TOWED A CAR AND DROVE LIKE NOTHING WAS THERE. LOVE IT! COULD USE SOME MINOR IMPROVEMENTS.
Valentin Kozey 2024-06-18
This vehicle is incredibly reliable, with 104k miles on it and still running like new. What's most impressive about this older generation SUV is how stable it is, even without stability control or other systems. Despite its size, it handles surprisingly well and has an outstanding turning radius. While it may lack some key features like auto climate control and a sunroof, it's still a great choice for anyone looking for a dependable ride.
