The Chrysler LeBaron, also known as the Imperial LeBaron, is a line of automobiles built by Chrysler from 1931 to 1941 and from 1955 to 1995. The model was introduced in 1931, with a body manufactured by LeBaron, and competed with other luxury cars of the era such as Lincoln and Packard. After purchasing LeBaron with its parent Briggs Manufacturing Company, Chrysler introduced the luxury make Imperial in 1955, and sold automobiles under the name Imperial LeBaron until 1975. Chrysler discontinued the Imperial brand in 1975, and reintroduced the Chrysler LeBaron in 1977 to what was then Chrysler's lowest priced model.

The "LeBaron" name has since been applied to five different cars built by the Chrysler Division:

  • 1977–1981 M-body (mid-size) LeBaron sedan, coupe, and wagon
  • 1982–1988 K-body (mid-size) LeBaron sedan, coupe, convertible, and wagon
  • 1985–1989 H-body (mid-size) LeBaron GTS hatchback
  • 1987–1995 J-body (personal luxury) LeBaron coupe and convertible
  • 1990–1994 AA-body (mid-size) LeBaron sedan

The last Chrysler LeBaron was produced in 1995, to be replaced with the Cirrus and Sebring. The LeBaron was one of Chrysler's longest running brands.

Common 1995 Chrysler Lebaron problems

The Chrysler LeBaron, produced between 1989 and 1995, faced a number of common problems that were reported by owners of this car. These issues were primarily related to the car's electrical system, transmission, fuel system, and carburetor.

One of the most common issues reported by drivers of the Chrysler LeBaron was related to the car's transmission. Drivers reported that the transmission would shift roughly or fail to engage properly. This issue was reported across several model years, including 1989, 1990, 1992, 1993, and 1994. In some cases, the issue was attributed to the car's TCM (transmission control module), which would fail or malfunction. In other cases, the issue was attributed to the car's input and output speed sensors, which would fail or malfunction.

Another common issue reported by drivers of the Chrysler LeBaron was related to the car's fuel system and carburetor. Drivers reported that the car would stall or struggle to accelerate, particularly in cold weather or after long periods of idling. This issue was reported across several model years, including 1989, 1990, 1992, and 1993. In some cases, the issue was attributed to the car's carburetor, which would become clogged or dirty over time. In other cases, the issue was attributed to the car's fuel pump, which would fail or malfunction.

The Chrysler LeBaron also faced a number of issues related to the car's electrical system. Drivers reported problems with the car's battery and alternator, particularly in the 1989 model year. In some cases, the battery would fail to hold a charge, or the alternator would fail to charge the battery. In other cases, the car's electrical system would experience intermittent issues, such as flickering lights or malfunctioning gauges.

In addition to these issues, the Chrysler LeBaron also faced a number of other common problems. Drivers reported issues with the car's brakes, particularly in the 1991 model year. In some cases, the brakes would become spongy or fail to engage properly. In other cases, the brake lines would corrode or leak, leading to a loss of brake fluid.

Another common issue reported by drivers of the Chrysler LeBaron was related to the car's body and undercarriage. Drivers reported issues with rust and corrosion, particularly in the 1993 model year. This issue was attributed to the car's body panels, which were prone to rust and corrosion over time. In some cases, the rust and corrosion was severe enough to compromise the car's structural integrity.

Finally, drivers of the Chrysler LeBaron reported a number of other miscellaneous issues, such as problems with the car's engine, cooling system, and electrical system. These issues were reported across several model years, and were attributed to a variety of causes, including wear and tear, manufacturing defects, and accidents.

In conclusion, the Chrysler LeBaron faced a number of common problems that were reported by drivers of this car. These issues were primarily related to the car's electrical system, transmission, fuel system, and carburetor. While some of these issues could be serious, most were relatively minor and could be addressed through regular maintenance and repairs. If you own a Chrysler LeBaron, it's important to stay on top of these issues and address them promptly to keep your car running smoothly.

Negative 1995 Chrysler Lebaron car reviews

  1. Kaley Hintz 2024-10-07

I wouldn't recommend buying a used LeBaron as they're not the best of Chrysler's products. They tend to have transmission issues, and many minor problems have arisen since I purchased mine. The top leaks, and there have been some strange electrical mishaps. However, the 6-cylinder engine has held up well with no problems after 110,000 miles.

  2. Coby Kling 2024-09-19

The car has had some issues, including leaks and problems with the main belt. Despite having it fixed twice, the leaks persist. Additionally, the main belt has broken once, come off once, and required two belt stabilizer replacements due to persistent squeaking. The front ball joints have also been replaced at 55,000 miles. It is worth noting that the back seat may be cramped for additional passengers.

  3. Alfredo Green 2024-09-04

Although this is a fun car to drive, it's important to keep in mind that once it hits 6 or 8 years old, some issues may arise. Some common problems include a bad transmission, leaky roof and windows, and unexplained stalling. It's especially important to keep an eye out for leaks, as they tend to worsen with age. However, the car does drive quite nicely and maneuvers well under normal conditions.

I see that you've had a few Mustangs over the years! A 1987 white/deep red coupe in '88 and a blue on blue convertible in '94. Both sound like they were a lot of fun, especially for the lake. Now you have a 1995 white convertible with a gray interior and it sounds like you absolutely love it! It's great to hear that it's running perfectly and that you're taking it to the body shop for a total restoration before spring. I'm sure it will look amazing once it's done. It's no surprise that you get lots of compliments on it and even notes from people wanting to buy it. It's a great car and a fun second car, especially with the sharp black top, white bottom, and gray interior GTC combination. Enjoy the ride!

  5. Trey Lockman 2024-05-26

It's great to hear that you took such good care of your car! However, it's unfortunate that you're experiencing some major problems with it now. It's understandable to feel frustrated, especially since you've done all the scheduled maintenance. It's important to note that every car is different and can have its own unique issues. Have you considered taking it to a trusted mechanic to see if they can diagnose the problem? It's always worth exploring all options before making a decision. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

You'll love my car in every way, and I'm sure you will too. I'm just having a bit of trouble finding parts.

  2. Jaylan Koelpin 2025-01-03

Fantastic! The all-white color scheme looks clean and modern, even though it's a 20-year-old design. The long hood/short deck definitely pulls off the luxury sport look. It has power everything and a radio that will take your head off. Plus, it has bottom-end guts for days and gets 28mpg on an auto trans!

  3. Tyrese Parisian 2025-01-03

This has been an amazing car! It has Japanese (Mitsubishi) technology which might explain its reliability. The 3.0 V6 engine is 'bulletproof'. It still has the original top and exhaust system. I only had to replace one set of pads on the front and the rear bonded are original. As a precaution, 2 years ago I changed the spark plugs, timing belt and water pump for a very meager sum. All in all, it ranks as the best car I've ever had!

  5. Ernest Weber 2024-11-02

This car has been a blast! I only bought it because the price was really cheap due to needing transmission repair. I still have less than 3 grand in it and I've put 60,000 miles on it in less than a year. It was garage kept by a retired lady who took really good care of it, so my original top looks brand new and doesn't leak. Overall, this has been a wonderful, fun, and extremely economical ride. I have no complaints!
