buick logo

The Buick Terraza is a five-door minivan marketed by Buick from 2005 to 2007 model years as a luxury crossover sport van. The Terraza was a badge engineered variant of the Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Saturn minivans sharing the U platform; (Uplander, Montana SV6, and Relay respectively), all manufactured in Doraville, Georgia.

Design

The Terraza retailed at US$28,110 in 2005 ($43,853 in 2023 dollars ), and debuted with one engine, a 3.5 L High Value V6 generating 200 hp (149 kW) and 220 lb·ft (298 N·m) of torque. For 2006, a 3.9 L LZ9 V6, with 240 hp (179 kW) and 240 lb·ft (332 Nm) torque. The Terraza offered leather seats, and faux wood trim on the center stack, offered also on the steering wheel and gear shift knob.

For 2007, the 3.5 L V6 was dropped, leaving the 3.9 L as the base engine. Consequently, the optional AWD system was also dropped. A flex-fuel version of the 3.9 L V6 also became available for the Terraza's third season. The 2007 Terraza equipped with side airbags scored a "good" in the frontal offset and an "acceptable" in the side impact Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests.

This issue poses a safety concern as it affects the driver's ability to see clearly while driving, potentially leading to accidents or unsafe driving conditions.
  • Mechanical Reliability: Some owners have complained about mechanical issues, including engine knocking sounds, reduced engine power, and intermittent problems that are challenging to diagnose and resolve. These mechanical issues can be costly to repair and may impact the overall performance and longevity of the vehicle, causing inconvenience and potential safety hazards on the road.
  • Air Conditioning System: While praised for its effectiveness, the air conditioning system in the 2007 Buick Terraza has also been a source of complaints. Owners have noted that despite its functionality, the system may not be well-suited for all climates, with some finding it a hassle due to the seats attracting heat. This issue can affect passenger comfort and overall satisfaction with the vehicle.

  • VIN: 5GADV23X7D1
  • Components: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: THE ABS TRACTION CONTROL IS NOW COMING ON ALL THE TIME. I UNDERSTAND THIS HAS BEEN A BIG PROBLEM FOR BUICK. THEY HAVE NOT FIXED ANY PROBLEMS ON THESE. WISH THEY WOULD RECALL THEM FOR THIS PROBLEM AS THIS IS NOT SAFE. IT COMES ON GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND MAKES A FUNNY NOISE. THIS VAN HAS HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS THAT IT SHOULD BE RECALLED.

SUSPENSION PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2010-07-23
  • VIN: 4GLDV13WX7D
  • Components: SUSPENSION
  • Summary: I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE FROM THE START WITH OUR CAR'S STABILITY SYSTEM. THE BACK END WAS MAKING A TERRIBLE THUMPING AND GRINDING SOUND EVERY TIME I WOULD GO OVER THE SLIGHTEST UNEVEN SURFACES. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE REPAIRS MADE INCLUDING REPLACING RIGHT REAR BUSHING, REWELDING OF AN UNKNOWN PART ON THE RIGHT REAR AND THE STABILTITY/ABS SYSTEMS REPAIRED MULTIPLE TIMES. YET, THE CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. IT HAS A UNSTABLE, WOBBLY RIDE ESPECIALLY ON THE INTERSTATE. AMONG OTHER THINGS I'VE ALSO HAD A WHEEL SENOR REPLACED. WE BOUGHT A BUICK TERRAZA CONVERSION VAN AND HAVE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR END THAT AFFECTS THE STABILITY OF THE CAR. I CALLED BRAUN MOBILITY ABOUT A RECALL FOR THE SUSPENSION PROBLEMS AND INFORMED THEM OF THE MULTIPLE REPAIRS. SUPERIOR MOBILITY INSPECTED THE CAR AGAIN AND HAS BEEN MY ONGOING CONTACT FOR PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR.THEY REFERRED ME TO BECK AUTO SERVICE WHO HAS DONE MUST OF THE REPAIRS. EARLY ON, SHORTLY AFTER WE PURCHASED THE CAR, THERE WAS SOME SORT OF WIRING PROBLEM THAT CAUSED THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT TO CONTINUALLY COME ON WHICH WAS REPAIRED BY ANDY MOHR GM DEALER. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, I'VE HAD TROUBLE LATELY WITH THE VAN NOT WANTING TO START BECAUSE THE KEY WON'T TURN IN THE IGNITION. IN ADDITION, WE'VE HAD ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THE AUTOMATIC DOORS MALFUNCTIONING; BOTH POWER DOORS ON THE VEHICLE HAVE FAILED TO CLOSE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE POWER DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OCASSIONALLY REQUIRES MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO CLOSE AND OFTEN THE DOOR WARNING CHIMES WILL NOT GO OFF, EVEN WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED. I AM STILL HAVING SUSPENSION PROBLEMS AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A SOLUTION THAT WORKS. THIS VEHICLE IS USED TO TRANSPORT MY DIABLED HUSBAND AND THE ONGOING PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. THE CAR IS A 2007 BUICK TERRAZA WITH LESS THAN 44,000 MILES!!! *TR

THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIR MULTIPLE TIMES PER DOOR, AT ONE POINT I WAS TOLD BY THE REPAIR TECHNICIAN, AS I HANDED HIM PIECES OF THE DOOR MOUNTING, THAT IT IS A GOOD THING I DIDN'T OPEN IT ONE MORE TIME AS THE DOOR LIKELY WOULD HAVE FALLEN OFF! I HAVE RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE NUMEROUS TIMES TO FIND ONE OF THE SLIDING DOOR MYSTERIOUSLY OPEN. DUE TO ONGOING NIGHTMARE OF THE DOORS OPENING I AM CAREFUL TO CONFIRM THE DOORS ARE CLOSED AND LOCKED PRIOR TO LEAVING MY VEHICLE, HOWEVER THEY SLIDE OPEN ON THERE OWN FOR NO REASON. ONCE I AM ABLE TO "CLOSE THE DOOR" AND DRIVE AWAY THE ODDS ARE 50/50 THAT THE NEXT BUMP I HIT IN THE ROAD THAT DOOR WILL OPEN. ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • VIN: 5GADV33107D
  • Components: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM
  • Summary: 2007 BUICK TERRAZA. STABILITY SYSTEM/TRACTION CONTROL/ABS CAUSES FRONT BRAKES TO ENGAGE WITHOUT WARNING. THIS HAS OCCURRED NO LESS THAT 25 TIMES. SPEED AT TIME OF INCIDENT HAS BEEN FROM 10 TO 55 MPH. RATCHETING SOUND OCCURS (SAME AS WHEN TRACTION CONTROL APPLIES IN SLIPPERY CONDITIONS); FRONT TIPS DOWN AS LEFT BRAKE APPLIES; VEHICLE PULLS HARD TO THE LEFT. THE ONLY WAY I CAN DRIVE IS TO PULL THE FUSE, LEAVING ABS, TC, AND SS OFF. DEALER HAS TRIED TO FIX, GM CUSTOMER SERVICE BECAME INVOLVED BRIEFLY, BUT I STILL DRIVE WITHOUT MAJOR SAFETY FEATURES, OR TAKE MY CHANCES ON ABRUPT SPEED CHANGES, AND LANE CHANGES. NOT SOMETHING I ENJOY ON THE DAN RYAN IN CHICAGO, WHEN THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC IS ABOVE SPEED LIMIT AND CHICAGO DRIVERS USE 5 FEET AS A FOLLOWING DISTANCE. I HAVE FOUND FROM THE INTERNET THAT OTHER GM CARS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT GM HAS NEVER INVESTIGATED THIS. I REALLY LIKE THE CAR, BUT RANDOM BRAKING SURPRISES ARE DISTURBING. *TR

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2008-05-15
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
  • Summary: I BOUGHT A 2007 TERRAZA IN APRIL OF LAST YEAR. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE FROM THE START. THE BRAKES STARTED MAKING NOISE IN THE FIRST WEEK. THE DEALER CLEANED THE PADS, BUT THAT DID NOT WORK. THEY EVENTUALLY REPLACED THEM ,BUT IT STILL SQUEALS. THEN THE EMERGENCY BREAK LIGHT WOULD COME ON EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKE WAS NEVER USED, AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE. I BROUGHT IT BACK AGAIN. THEY SAID THAT THESE PROBLEMS WERE RELATED AND IT HAD TO DO WITH WIRING. THE BACK END WAS MAKING A TERRIBLE THUMPING SOUND EVERY TIME I WOULD GO OVER THE SLIGHTEST OF UNEVEN SURFACES. THEY TOLD ME THE GAS TANK STRAP WAS LOOSE, AND THEY TIGHTENED IT ,BUT IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT BACK AND INSISTED THAT A TECHNICIAN RIDE WITH ME TO HEAR THE SOUND. LONG STORY SHORT ON THIS PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY HAD TO CALL HEADQUARTERS AND MANY TERRAZAS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE BACK AXEL, AND HAD THE VAN FOR TWO WEEKS. AFTER THAT, I TOO HAD TROUBLE WITH THE AUTOMATIC DOORS COMING OPEN FOR NO APPARENT REASON. TWICE, I CAME OUT OF THE STORE TO FIND M Y DOOR WIDE OPEN. I COUNT MYSELF LUCKY SINCE IT WAS BETTER THAN THEM OPENING WHILE DRIVING WITH MY KIDS. BACK AGAIN. I WAS TOLD THEY RECALLED THE DOORS, BUT I CANNOT FIND ANY RECORD OF A RECALL ON THE WEB. I AM CALLING AGAIN TODAY BECAUSE I HAVE HAD TROUBLE LATELY WITH THE VAN NOT WANTING TO START ON AT LEAST FOUR OCCASIONS OR STARTING BUT WANTING TO DIE WHEN PUT IN GEAR. WHEN I BOUGHT THE VAN, IT WAS A PROGRAM CAR AND HAD 20,000 MI. IT HAS BEEN 9 MOS. AND NOW HAS 30,000 MILES. SHOULD I BE EXPERIENCING THIS MANY PROBLEMS ON A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 30,000 MILES??? I HAVEN'T WITH ANY OTHER CAR. COULD I HAVE A LEMON??? I CERTAINLY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND A TERRAZA TO ANYONE!!!! THE SERVICE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN PRETTY ACCOMMODATING AND FIXED MOST OF THE PROBLEMS, HOWEVER, I'M A LITTLE SCARED OF THE SAFETY ISSUES HERE. WHAT ELSE MIGHT BE WRONG THAT WILL CREEP UP LATER?? *TR

Negative 2007 Buick Terraza car reviews

  1. Junius Stiedemann 2025-01-08

This was a purchase made in an emergency (with a Buick Rendevous trade-in...another GM horror story) for our family's 2008 summer trips. The DVD system was a plus with four kids and we averaged 26 MPG on the highway with very comfortable seats. However, the lack of seating flexibility (no fold-down 3rd row seats, and 2nd row seats don't slide forward) was a major minus. Removing the 2nd/3rd row seats is a difficult task. In the 18 months of ownership, we had to make some repairs: (1) replaced front stabilizer links ($270); (2) reprogrammed PCM to address extended crank time, Bulletin #05-06-04-076B ($90). We are still working with the dealer on the flickering headlamps & interior lights, Bulletin #05-06-03-003C, that may require either replacement voltage regulator or alternator (ouch).

The van has several issues, including discomfort, noise, poor performance, stalling, cruise control, ABS system, and traction stability and control system. These issues are unacceptable and require immediate attention to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Overall, I think this is a good van. It has lots of room and is very quiet. It rides nicely on the highway. Although I have had no major problems, I must say that the warranty work performed by Carl Black Buick was very poor.

Although my experience with my Terraza has been less than satisfactory, I am confident in my decision to trade it in for a new vehicle. The sliding doors have been difficult to close, there is limited storage between the front seats, and the lack of air vents in the back has been a source of discomfort for my children. Additionally, I had to have the rear end replaced at 35,000 miles and there have been several rattles inside. Despite these issues, I am confident in my decision to move on from this vehicle, even though it may not be the most financially sound choice. This was my first Buick and while it did not meet my expectations, I am excited to explore other options in the future.

  5. Frederik Leannon 2024-10-09

The van has experienced persistent vibration and shaking since its first mile, despite Buick's attempts to repair it. Although the tires have been replaced 3.5 times, the issue persists. Despite Buick's claim that this is acceptable and common among Terraza models, the van has been in the shop for a total of 5 weeks over 6 visits, despite having less than 5000 miles on it. It is clear that further action is necessary to address this issue.

Positive 2007 Buick Terraza car reviews

I know that Honda, Toyota, and Nissan are popular choices, with Chrysler products leading the American pack. However, I have found the Buick Terraza to be an excellent ride, with all the luxuries of the top models, and at half the price. Although consumer ratings may be low, there are great deals available for GM's. I am not sure why the ratings are low, but I personally enjoy these vans. The vehicle is well-built and has a great look, almost SUV-like. The DVD system with wireless headphones is perfect for keeping the kids entertained, and I have not experienced any performance issues. As a mini-van, I am not expecting the same performance as the cars of my youth. If you are looking for a good van at a reasonable price, I highly recommend this American-made ride.

  2. Oran Farrell 2024-10-15

Rides very well under all conditions. The feel is more like a large luxury automobile. The comments from other drivers are all very positive, so I am definitely going to buy one. I found that on long trips, my back did not hurt and my body did not feel tired at all. I would highly recommend this van to anyone looking to buy a van.

I recently walked through the dealership and noticed that Buick made a van. It immediately caught my eye and the more I looked at it, the more I thought that for what was offered at the price, it was an absolute bargain. One of the things that impressed me the most was how quiet the vehicle was, even when it was fully loaded. I could hold a normal conversation without any issues. Now, 12,000 miles later, I still walk out to the parking lot and utter 'yeah!'

  4. Abe Farrell 2024-09-28

This is the best car I have ever had. My wife always picks the vehicle. I only have one problem, and that is getting the little things fixed. We have a cottage in the north, and I have run out of gas three times because of a faulty gas gauge. On long trips, I tend to get a very severe ache in my right shoulder, and we think this is from the A/C unit, which has little control other than on/off.

  5. Kendrick Yost 2024-09-10

I really enjoyed driving this mini van. I was pleasantly surprised by all of the smart features, such as the information panel that displays how many miles you have left before running out of gas or oil, extra cup holders that can be hidden away, and a censored passenger seat that deactivates the airbag when a child is underweight. The van had many common sense features that most vehicles lack, making traveling much more comfortable. The car even indicated which door was not closed properly, although it did take some effort to get the side doors to register as closed. It took me a while to get used to the truck-like appearance of the front end, but then I remembered that some people prefer a more masculine look.
