The Buick Regal is a line of mid-size cars marketed by Buick since 1973. For nearly its entire production, the Regal has served as the premium mid-size/intermediate offering of the Buick product range. Introduced as a submodel of the Buick Century, the model line is currently in its sixth generation. From the 1970s to the 1990s, the Regal served as the Buick counterpart of the Pontiac Grand Prix and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

For 1999, the Buick Regal inaugurated the sale of GM vehicles in the Chinese market, with the 1997 design lasting through 2008. Following the 2004 model year, Buick retired the nameplate in North America, with the Regal replaced by the Buick LaCrosse.

For 2008, Opel introduced the Opel Insignia as its largest sedan, with Buick rebranding the model line as the Regal for the Chinese market. For 2011, GM reintroduced the Regal to North America, rebranding the Insignia sedan for North America. For 2018, Buick introduced the second-generation Opel Insignia, sourcing all production from Germany; alongside a first-ever liftback sedan, the Regal TourX was the first Buick station wagon in 22 years.

After 2020, as the division shifted away from car model lines, Buick ended sales of the Regal in North America.

  • Summary: 2014 Buick Regal GS AWD sedan, second owner. Car was purchased as a certified used from Buick dealer in 2018 with 40,xxx miles. Car now has 137,xxx miles, no longer under extended warranty. Have had all regular maintenance done and have records. Aside from normal wear and tear, no prior issues with car. Car engine suddenly started to run rough, Check Engine light came on while driving 65 mph, sudden loss of engine power and car died on the highway causing congestion and vehicles to swerve on highway, loss of steering control, pulled over. Car was able to be restarted but running rough, engine light on, severe reduction in power. Talked with nearest dealer, they said to not drive car. Had local GM mechanic do inspection, computer codes indicated loss of compression on cylinder 3, misfire. Compression check and bore inspection indicated loss of compression on cylinder 3, valve failure/damage, oil in the turbo, requiring complete rebuild or replacement engine and turbo. Review of TSB from GM indicated this is a known issue, engine to be replaced.

THROUGH RESEARCH I HAVE LEARNED THAT CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WITH THE PISTONS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE ACROSS THE GM PLATFORM WITH SAME ENGINES. THIS IS LIKELY CAUSED BY A MISFIRE OR PREIGNITION IN THE CYLINDER WHICH WHICH FEEDS ON ITSELF AS IT GETS WORSE. ALSO THE PCV SYSTEM DESIGNED FOR A NATURALLY ASPIRATED ENGINE NOT A TURBO ENGINE. THIS SYSTEM FUNCTIONS ONLY WHEN THERE IS NO BOOST FROM THE TURBO. THIS CAUSE GUNK TO BUILD UP EVENTUALLY BACK FLOWING INTO #1. SINCE LIQUID WILL NOT COMPRESS IT CREATES PRESSURE IN THE CYLINDER DAMAGING THE RINGS. I PURCHASED MY CAR USED WITH NO WARRANTY AND EXACTLY 100K. EVEN ON THE TEST DRIVE I FELT A MISFIRE BUT WAS TOLD IT'S NOTHING. MAYBE MY FOOT SLIPPED. FIVE DAYS LATER THE PREIGNITION HAPPENED AGAIN. CHANGE THE PLUGS AND WIRES AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR AWHILE. THREE WEEKS LATER WHEN I COLD START THE ENGINE IN THE MORNING TO WARM UP. IT WAS EXHIBITING THE SAME MISFIRING ALONG WITH A FLUCTUATING IDLE AND EXCESSIVE FUEL BEING BLOWN OUT THE EXHAUST. PULLED THE CODES ALL IT SAID WAS MISFIRE IN #2. BROUGHT IT IN TO SERVICE SHOP. THEY PULLED THE CODES WITH NOTHING REPORTING. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A NORMAL SITUATION IN THE BUICKS. BEING NAIVE AND UNFAMILIAR WITH THE MOTOR I BELIEVED THEM. I DID FIND A GM SERVICE BULLETIN THAT DID SUPPORT WHAT THEY SAID. CLAIMED IT WAS DOUBLE IGNITING TO HEAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTOR UP FASTER. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO EXHIBIT THE SAME ISSUES ALL ALONG IM BEING TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG. FAST FORWARD TO LAST WEEK THE PROBLEM EXPONENTIALLY INCREASED. BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALER. THEY COULDN'T "FIND" ANYTHING THOUGH THEY AGREED WASN'T RUNNING RIGHT. MARCH 7 ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. YEP SOMETHING IS WRONG BUT THE CAR IS NOT SAYING ANYTHING. THE TECH WENT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND THE MOTOR FAILED. A BORE SCOPE REVEALED SEVERE PISTON DAMAGE.

THE CONTACT MANAGED TO GET THE GEAR TO SHIFT AND, ONCE RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PAHRUMP VALLEY AUTO PLAZA (2060 E CHARLESTON PARK AVE, PAHRUMP, NV 89048, (775) 990-4402) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHIFTER LEVER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.

THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED MORE THAN ONCE TO THE DEALER AND THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT NO REMEDY WAS PROVIDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A POWER TRAIN WARRANTY THAT MAY COVER THE REPAIR. WALKING TO THE CAR AT NIGHT TO LEAVE, I NOTICED OIL ON THE GARAGE FLOOR COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR. AFTER OPENING THE HOOD, I NOTICED OIL IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT COMING FROM THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. AFTER REMOVING THE PLASTIC ENGINE COVER, I SAW THAT THE OIL WAS COMING FROM WHAT I LEARNED IS THE VACCUM PUMP. THERE WAS A VISIBLE BREAK IN THE PUMP HOUSING. I WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ABOUT GETTING THIS SERVICED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY STARTED THAT THIS PART IS ONLY COVERED UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY AND NOT POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH THE VACUUM PUMP IS DIRECTLY MOUNTED TO AND CONNECTED TO THE INTAKE CAMSHAFT. MY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED 3 1/2 MONTHS OR 219 MILES PRIOR, YET THE CAR IS STILL UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNWILLING TO HELP AND QUOTED ME $104 FOR A NEW AC DELCO VACUUM PUMP. I WAS ABLE TO ORDER A NEW AC DELCO VACUUM PUMP FROM ROCK AUTO FOR $43. AFTER RECEIVING THE NEW PUMP, A MECHANIC FRIEND WAS HELPING ME TO REPLACE THE PUMP. WHEN THE OLD ONE WAS REMOVED, IT WAS SHOWN TO HAVE DISINTEGRATED. THE INSIDE OF THE PART WAS IN MANY PIECES. THE PART THAT ENGAGES THE CAMSHAFT WAS ALSO BROKE INTO PIECES AND AT THIS POINT I BELIEVE THAT SEVERAL OF THOSE ARE NOW INSIDE THE ENGINE. AT THIS POINT I AM GOING TO TAKE THE OLD PART TO THE DEALERSHIP, ALONG WITH PHOTOS OF THE ENGINE AND DEMAND THAT THIS IS NOW FIXED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, AS THE POWERTRAIN IS DIRECTLY AFFECTED.   • Summary: WHILE NORMALLY DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND ATTEMPTING TO PASS A SEMI TRUCK, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY WENT OUT OF CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WENT TO MAXIMUN ACCELERATION AND THE BRAKES AND STEERING BOTH FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A SPIN AND CRASHED INTO THE SEMI TRUCK'S REAR TRAILER WHEELS. THE TRUCK RAN OVER THE LEFT FRONT PORTION OF THE VEHICLE, BLOWING BOTH OUTER TIRES ON THE TRUCK AND CRUSHING THE FRONT, LEFT PORTION VEHICLE IN THE PROCESS. THERE WAS NO TICKETS ISSUED BY THE POLICE AGENCY THAT INVESTIGATED THE ACCIDENT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY INVOLVED SETTLED ALL CLAIMS AND TOTALED OUT THE VEHICLE. I REPURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY BECAUSE I WAS DETERMINED TO FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED. IT TOOK ME 3 MONTHS TO FIGURE IT OUT, HOWEVER I HAVE. THE MAIN CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT WAS GM'S FAILURE TO INSTALL AN ELECTRICAL GROUND STRAP FROM THE ENGINE TO THE CHASSIS. NOW THERE IS NO PATH FOR THE ELECTRICITY TO GET BACK EITHER TO THE ALTERNATOR OR THE BATTERY. WHILE THERE ARE SOME SMALL GROUND RETURNS IN THE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS, NOTHING LARGE ENOUGH FOR THE REQUIRED AMPERAGE TO GET BACK. WHEN IT CAN'T FIND A PATH, IT LOOKS FOR ANOTHER WAY THROUGH THE BODY OR THE SMALL RETURNS IN THE CABLE. THE WIRES IN THE CABLE GOT HOT AND MELTED THE INSULATION OFF AND SHORTED OUT THE OTHER WIRES. THIS DROPPED THE VOLTAGE ON THE MAIN BUSS WHICH FEEDS THE COMPUTER. THE COMPUTER CONTROLS THE POWER SETTINGS TO THE ENGINE, THE BRAKING SYSTEM, AND THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING,ALL FAILED. ONLY GOOD THING THAT THEY HAVE A COMPLETELY SEPARATE SYSTEM FOR THE AIR BAG CONTROLS AND SEAT BELT RETRACTORS. THEY ALL WORKED PERFECTLY, OTHERWISE MY WIFE WOULD BE DEAD. UPDATED 07/11/17*LJ *CN

  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Buick Regal, Cadillac XTS, Chevrolet Camaro and Chevrolet Impala vehicles. Improperly torqued fasteners may cause the steering intermediate shaft and the steering gear and/or the lower control arm and the lower ball joint to separate.
  • Consequence: If any of the components separate, the vehicle may have a loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: GM began to notify owners on June 27, 2014, and dealers will inspect the fasteners for correct torque, correcting them as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac) or 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14378.

  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Buick Regal, LaCrosse, Verano, and Enclave, and Chevrolet Impala, Malibu, Cruze, and Traverse, and GMC Acadia vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable adjuster may disengage from the transmission shift lever. As such, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect." They also fail to conform to FMVSS number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
  • Consequence: If a vehicle's shift cable disengages from the transmission shift lever, a driver may be unable to shift gear positions and the indicated shift position may not represent the gear position the vehicle is in. Should a disengagement occur while the vehicle is being driven, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, the driver may be able to shift the lever to the "PARK" position, but the vehicle transmission may not be in the "PARK" gear position. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
  • Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace any affected transmission shift cable adjusters, free of charge. The recall began on April 10, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-222-1020, Buick owners at 1-800-521-7300, and GMC owners at 1-800-462-8782. General Motors' number associated with this recall is 14048.

    I purchased this car in January 2015 with a little over 38,000 miles on it. After 4 years of ownership, I have driven over 97,000 miles. The car is comfortable on trips of about 1 to 2 hours, but I find myself attempting to find a comfortable setting for the lumbar support on longer trips. The acceleration is really good, and it even accelerates well at higher speeds. It’s very nimble in corners and has a decent 0-60. The heated seats are a dream in the winter. Driving in the winter is good, just don’t go crazy. The stock tires are excellent and lasted until 2018, or 7 years since the car was originally leased in Oct 2011. However, as the car ages, issues with quality start to stand out. At 43,000 miles, the left rear wheel bearing went out, and by 80k miles, all 4 bearings had been replaced. I’ve had both the intake and exhaust actuators replaced, a compressor, and belt tensioner. I just had the struts replaced and will soon need to replace the shocks and sway bar endlinks. The parking brake switch was replaced, and I need a new caliper. Spark plugs last about 30k to 60k miles, and the owner's manual says to replace them at 150k, but I needed them at 60k because they were misfiring so badly. Now they are misfiring again. Other than normal maintenance, the car is okay. If you get one that has over 70k miles, make sure the spark plugs, engine air filter, cabin air filter, and all fluids and belts are in good condition. Most of the repairs are easy if you want to avoid paying for labor. Overall, I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable vehicle.

    I really like the exterior design and wheels of the car. I ultimately chose it over the Audi A4 Avant Quattro (wagon) because of several reasons. Firstly, the maintenance costs are much cheaper, especially when it comes to oil changes, which can cost up to $250 for the Audi. Secondly, the car has more horsepower and torque than the Audi, which is a big plus. Thirdly, the car has a more aggressive look than the Audi, which I find really appealing. Lastly, there aren't too many GS models on the road, which makes it feel kind of exclusive. Although I had to sacrifice the prerequisite of an All-Wheel-Drive car (Audi) for the horsepower and looks in the GS, I still love the car. The only downside is the almost uncontrollable torque steer, which can be annoying and embarrassing when I want to accelerate quickly. Additionally, I'm disappointed that I can't stream Pandora to my Samsung Galaxy S5 and have to resort to using the Aux input. However, overall, I'm really happy with my purchase. The interior materials could be better, but it's still a great car.

    Although I had a few issues with this car, my overall driving experience was pleasant. Unfortunately, I encountered some problems with the wheel bearing and a recall was necessary. Additionally, I had some trouble with the front seat, which the dealership tried to fix multiple times but unfortunately, it never worked properly. Despite these issues, the dealership staff were always friendly and helpful. However, I did experience some problems with the lumbar support and seat heater, which were eventually fixed but it took a few visits to the dealership. I did have some concerns about the security of the car, as it was still connected to my smart phone even after I sold it. It's important to be aware of the potential security risks associated with the 'internet of things'. Overall, I had a positive experience with the dealership staff, but unfortunately, these issues have made me hesitant to purchase another GM vehicle in the near future.

    Hey there! I recently got my first American car after driving Toyotas and Nissans for years. I was looking for a 6-speed coupe with leather seats and a sunroof, and after some research, I stumbled upon the Buick Regal with its 6-speed turbo. I did a lot of consumer research before purchasing, and everything seemed positive. However, after 2 years, I've had a few issues. The MPG hasn't been as good as the EPA estimates, and there's some turbo lag in lower gears. I had to replace the front axle and wheel bearing at 30k, but luckily it was covered by the CPO warranty. Unfortunately, the trunk light fixture failed at 30k and wasn't covered. The GPS SD card fails intermittently, but a system reboot usually fixes it. The Bluetooth sometimes disconnects from my Android, but it's only happened a couple of times. It's surprising that there's no rear camera at this price point, and the rear trunk has randomly failed to open. The OEM carpeted floor mats are pretty thin and low quality, and the interior lights sometimes fail when opening the car doors in a dark garage. The passenger visor tension rod failed at 40k, but it can be replaced for $120. The driver's side seat heater has also failed at 57k, and the stereo IQ reverts to default settings once the car is turned off. The biggest issue was when I received 2 CEL codes accompanied by loss of power, white exhaust, and rough idle at 50k. Unfortunately, the warranty had expired due to the date of the vehicle's initial title, but I was able to get the fuel injectors replaced for $900. The dealer advised that the white smoke from the exhaust may be due to a cracked piston, which was a bit concerning. Overall, I still enjoy driving my Buick Regal, but I hope these issues can be resolved in the future.I received two different CEL codes within 24 hours and brought my vehicle back to the local dealer. Despite the fact that they were in the process of going out of business, they checked the vehicle and advised me that the problem was not the throttle body as indicated. They suggested I bring it to another dealer for a deep dive. After two days, the dealer called and advised me that I needed a new engine or a complete rebuild, as there was no oil in the pan and it was throughout the system. GM refused to extend the expired warranty, despite my arguments regarding the low mileage. Finally, they agreed to meet me halfway and the engine rebuild subsequently cost me $3300, on top of the $900 I had just spent on the initial problem. However, the car now drives beautifully, as one might expect after this type of spend. The handling and ride have always been top-notch, and the design is clearly a head-turner. GM's second-string engineering and failure to stand by their products are the ultimate problem here, and this will be my last purchase, especially with the stellar reviews on the redesigned Mazda6 turbos. After 40k miles, the engine runs beautifully. However, I recently had a major issue with the ABS module replacement, despite the fact that these were designed to last a lifetime of the vehicle from what I've learned. I also discovered that the rear hub assembly was faulty, and after the ECU reflash, the total cost exceeded $1,200. The vehicle now has 97K miles, and I just cannot imagine what would lie ahead if I decided to drive into my typical 150k range. If GM finally stops swirling the drain and goes completely belly up during my lifetime, I will certainly know why. I traded in the vehicle at 97K miles, but not before the entertainment system would un-pair my cell phone. Then, when I attempted to re-pair, it said 'BLUETOOTH CAPABILITY NOT INSTALLED ON THIS VEHICLE'. After several trial and errors, I found that I had to disconnect the battery to force a cold system boot to fix the problem.I was lucky enough to receive the maximum trade-in value for my vehicle. However, the best part is the peace of mind I get every day when I go down to my garage and don't have to worry about what could go wrong.

    If you're looking for a car with a strong motor, it's best to avoid the Regal. The 4-cylinder engine and cheap plastic accents don't do it any favors. You might want to consider a KIA instead, which is not only cheaper but also comes with a better warranty. Plus, it's faster too!

    I've been researching the Regal GS for the past month and have made several test drives with both the manual and automatic versions. In the end, I decided to purchase the automatic due to the majority of city driving I do. I've already put over 300 miles on it in just the first 3 days and I must say, I'm very impressed with this car. It's incredibly smooth, quiet, and powerful when needed. I especially love how you can select the suspension settings to suit your mood and driving conditions. While the stereo control took a little bit of getting used to, I now don't even have to look. The styling, fit, and finish are well above what I would expect of a car in this class. If you're on the fence, I highly recommend taking one for a spin.

    Congratulations on your first new vehicle! I'm so excited for you. I've been following this car since its prototype stage, and now that it's in production, I knew you had to get one. Your White Diamond 6-Manual with 20's, Brembos, LED/HID Headlamps, Intellilink System, and Sunroof sounds amazing. It's loaded with features! The 2.0L engine has an unbelievable amount of power, and the six-speed manual makes it a joy to drive. Even with the 20's and low profile tires, the car handles incredibly and rides very smoothly. I've had a lot of GM cars, and those manufactured in Oshawa, ON Canada have always had the nicest paint and most solid build quality. This Regal certainly holds up to that standard. I love this car and I think you will too. You should definitely take it for a test drive!

    I had my car for four years and it never needed anything besides oil changes and tire rotations. Despite the low-profile tires and numerous potholes in NY, I never had any alignment issues. I was very happy with it and only decided to upgrade to a 2017 Buick Regal GS for the newer electronics, AWD, and good trade-in value.
