The Buick Regal is a line of mid-size cars marketed by Buick since 1973. For nearly its entire production, the Regal has served as the premium mid-size/intermediate offering of the Buick product range. Introduced as a submodel of the Buick Century, the model line is currently in its sixth generation. For 2008, Opel introduced the Opel Insignia as its largest sedan, with Buick rebranding the model line as the Regal for the Chinese market. For 2011, GM reintroduced the Regal to North America, rebranding the Insignia sedan for North America. For 2018, Buick introduced the second-generation Opel Insignia, sourcing all production from Germany; alongside a first-ever liftback sedan, the Regal TourX was the first Buick station wagon in 22 years.

After 2020, as the division shifted away from car model lines, Buick ended sales of the Regal in North America.

  • Summary: After starting my vehicle with foot on the brake and putting the vehicle in gear it will move forward and occasionally roll for 4 or 5 feet before the brake engages. This is extremely dangerous as I'm pulling out of a parking space and merging with ongoing traffic !This has been going on for approximately three weeks. The vehicle literally has no brakes for four or five feet despite the fact that my foot being pressed all the way down on the brake pedal!! Last week I came very close to a major accident when I couldn't stop for an on oncoming car. Thank goodness the operator of the other vehicle stopped in time to avoid a serious accident! I immediately took the car to a local garage to have my brakes checked. They found no issues. I then took it to the Buick dealer,BICAL, and they found a serious issue. The brake vacuum pump had frozen and had actually disintegrated and no longer was functional. Parts from the pump entered the valve shaft area also. The end result was a $3,000 repair bill. The important issue here is the driver safety on the road.Although this was only occasional and at low speeds left unattended would lead to a total brake failure with major consequences and major fatalities!! God only know how many major accidents occurred with major consequences without anyone knowing the true source of the accident details. I have read online that 1996-1997 Cadillacs also have this same issue!! This is a very poor design and a major safety issue. After all there is no such thing as a minor brake issue!!! In the falloff 2018 the same thing happened on the passengers side. I've removed both head assemblies and tried to fix the problem with very little success. Now I am looking at replacing both lamp assemblies at a cost of $2200 not counting labor.

MULTIPLE CAMSHAFT SEALS WORN AWAY, THAT WERE HARD AS ROCK FROM EXCESSIVE HEAT INCLUDING PISTON SEALS THAT HAD BEEN AFFECTED. THOUGHT THIS POSSIBLY HAD FIXED THE EXCESSIVE OIL BURN. A FEW WEEKS LATER I RECEIVED THE OIL LEVEL LOW NOTIFICATION ON THE CAR COMPUTER. I CHECK AND ITS VERY LOW. THE OIL BURN IS CONTINUING WITH NO CLEAR SIGNS OF AN OIL LEAK WITH DIRTY OIL. THERE IS POSSIBLY MORE PROBLEMS WITHIN THE ENGINE THAT AREN'T SEEN. I HAVE CHECKED PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS. I NOTICE THAT THIS ENGINE HAS MANY OF THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE TURBO PACKAGE ON GM VEHICLES. IT HAS A ROUGH IDLE AND ENGINE HESITATION. THESE CHARACTERISTICS SEEM TO INCLUDE INCONSISTENT ENGINE PERFORMANCE SOUND AND ARE FELT THROUGH THE PEDALS, THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND STEERING WHEEL, THERE IS A PUTTER AND HESITATES WHILE ACCELERATING.

HE DETERMINED THAT THE VACUUM PUMP HAD BROKEN OFF INTO THE ENGINE WHICH CAUSED A SEAL PROBLEM FOR THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. AS HE OPENED UP THE TOP OF THE ENGINE TO REMOVE THE BROKEN PIECES, HE NOTICED MULTIPLE CAMSHAFT SEALS THAT HAD WORN AWAY, THAT WERE HARD AS ROCK FROM EXCESSIVE HEAT INCLUDING PISTON SEALS THAT HAD BEEN AFFECTED, HE REPAIRED THEM ALL AFTER ORDERING THE REPLACEMENT PARTS FROM BUICK. THINKING THIS POSSIBLY HAD FIXED THE EXCESSIVE OIL BURN, I STOPPED CHECKING THE OIL LEVELS. A MONTH AND 1,000 MILES LATER, I RECEIVED THE OIL LEVEL LOW NOTIFICATION ON THE CAR COMPUTER. EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Summary: WE HAD THE DRIVER'S HEADLIGHT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO IT HOLDING WATER. ONCE WE GOT THE CAR BACK AND DROVE IT AT NIGHT, IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE LIGHT PATTERN WAS NOT THE SAME. SEE PHOTO. WE WERE NOT ABLE TO SEE THE ROAD ON THE LEFT SIDE SINCE THE BEAM WAS ESSENTIALLY POINTED DOWN SO I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK AND THEY SAID THAT THE HEADLIGHT WAS A NEW DESIGN AND THAT'S HOW IT LOOKS BUT THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE ADJUSTED IT AGAIN. THAT WEEK WE DROVE TO ORLANDO AT NIGHT AND ALMOST EVERY CAR IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION WOULD EITHER FLASH THEIR LIGHTS AT US OR HONK THEIR HORN. I DID A STATIC TEST AND THE LEDT LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATING OVERHEAD ROAD SIGNS AT A DISTANCE OF 50FT SO WE WERE BLINDING ONCOMING DRIVERS. I CONTACTED BUICK CORPORATE AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER A 4TH TIME, ONCE AGAIN I WAS TOLD THIS IS THE NEW DESIGN BUT WE WILL ADJUST IT. AS IT STANDS RIGHT NOW, MY LEFT AND RIGHT HEADLIGHTS ARE THROWING 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LIGHT PATTERNS, I STILL CAN'T SEE THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE HIGH BEAMS ON THE LEFT SIDE DON'T SEEM TO ILLUMINATE ANYTHING AT ALL. I'M A LICENSED ENGINEER AND ACCIDENT RE-CONSTRUCTIONIST THAT HAS SUBJECTED OTHER VEHICLES TO DOT AND SAE HEADLIGHT TESTS AND THESE LIGHTS WILL NOT PASS. IT ALSO CAUSES UNDUE STRESS ON THE THE DRIVER SINCE THE LIGHTING PATTERN IS NO LONGER CONSISTENT ACROSS THE FRONT OF THE CAR. I WOULD LIKE SOME HELP IN GETTING GM TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ISSUE AND CORRECT IT SINCE THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT ONCE MY WARRANTY EXPIRES IN MAY, THEY ARE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE

  • Summary: THIS VEHICLE HAS HID HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES THAT HAVE CONSTANT ISSUES WITH CONDENSATION/WATER ENTERING THE HOUSING AND CAUSING THE BALLAST AND BULB TO FAIL. THIS IS DUE TO A FAULTY SEAL BETWEEN THE OUTER AND INNER SHELL ASSEMBLY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, AS THE VEHICLE MAY LOOSE ALL HEADLIGHTS AND CAUSE THE DRIVER TO CRASH. THE ASSEMBLIES ARE VERY COSTLY TO REPLACE AND THE ISSUE IS VERY VERY COMMON ON ALL 2011 THOUGH 2017 REGAL AND GS MODELS WITH HID. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE FIXED BY THE MANUFACTURER. NEW ASSEMBLIES WILL RESULT IN THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. THIS COULD BE A DESIGN FLAW OR A MANUFACTURING FLAW... REGARDLESS, IT IS VERY DANGEROUS!

TRIP CHARACTERISTICS-TOTAL TRIP 35 MIN AT 20 TOTAL MILES-FIRST PART OF THE TRIP AT 45 MPH FOR 15 MIN/THE MIDDLE PART OF THE TRIP AT 70 MPH FOR 12 MIN/END PORTION OF THE TRIP AT 15-25 MPH FOR 6 MIN/IDLE AT 2 MIN-ENGINE PERFORMANCE-SUDDEN ONSET OF HIGH, ROUGH IDLE OR ENGINE HESITATION? CHARACTERISTICS SEEMED TO INCLUDE INCONSISTENT ENGINE PERFORMANCE SOUND AND FEEL FELT THROUGH THE PEDALS, THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND STEERING WHEEL, BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED AT 100%, IMMEDIATELY AFTER MOVING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION KNOB FROM PARK TO DRIVE, ENGINE TEMP WITHIN NORMAL PARAMETERS, GAS LEVEL 35 MILES TILL E. IN DRIVE, ACCELERATOR AT 15-20%, DROVE 35 MPH FOR 5 MILES TO A SHELL GAS PUMP, SHIFTED TO PARK, BRAKE DEPRESSED AT 100%, DEPRESSED ON/OFF ENGINE BUTTON, ENGAGED THE ELECTRONIC PARKING SYSTEM, MAX FUELED VEHICLE WITH HIGH-GRADE UNLEADED FUEL. VEHICLE SAT, UNSTARTED, FOR 15 MIN AFTER FUELING. DROVE TO THE AUTOZONE ACROSS THE STREET, 1 MILE/20 MP, EXPERIENCED A MIL COMING ON SOLID IN THE IP WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE. OBTAINED MIL PRINTOUT READ: "CYLINDER 4 MISFIRE DETECTED"/"ASE CERTIFIED MASTER TECHNICIANS HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE ON YOUR TYPE OF VEHICLE AND THE MOST LIKELY SOLUTION IS: PERFORM ENGINE DE-CARBON PROCEDURE"/CODE P0304. AT PRESENT: ON START-SOLID MIL, ROUGH, HIGH IDLE AT 1500 RPMS, AFTER 1-2 MIN-MIL,TCS SOLID, ROUGH IDLE AT 1000 RPMS. DRIVABILITY AT ALL SPEEDS AFFECTED BUT LESS SO AT HIGHER SPEEDS, *SIGNIFICANT LURCH AT 15-35 MPH FEELS LIKE HARD SHIFT/INTERMITTENT. I CHANGED OIL/AIR FILTERS, DRIVEN 2 MILES SINCE PARKING AT RESIDENCE.

    This is a great car! Just be sure to watch the pricing as it can vary based on mileage. I actually bought the exact same car for $2k less, but it had 15k more miles on it. Unfortunately, I totaled it, so I was determined to buy the exact same car again. However, I ended up getting ripped off by the dealer.

    I bought this car as a CPO from a dealer with 29k miles on it. After 6 years of ownership, it now has 143k miles on it. The engine and transmission have been flawless. I have only done oil, fluid, and filter changes as recommended. The car is smooth, quiet, comfortable, and has sporty looks with very good performance with the 2.0 turbo. I have regularly achieved over 30mpg until I put Michelin Cross Climate 2 tires on this past winter. The tires have awesome traction, but mileage dropped about 3 mpg overall. The only real issue I have had is with the wheel bearings. They won't last over 100k. When you get them replaced, make sure to get the hub that has the Timken bearings. It's a poor design, very difficult to remove, and the cheap replacement bearings may only last about 15 to 25k. Get Timkens!!! Update 21 Oct 2022: The Regal continues to run great with over 162k miles. Still no issues with burning oil. I've changed the transmission fluid several times over the years. I currently drive 30k miles a year commuting to work (162 miles round trip). I average 29 MPG with mostly highway driving. Recently, I changed another wheel bearing, brakes all around, and put on new rear shocks (Michigan roads destroyed the original shocks, but they were 9 years old). I still love this car! Update 4/21/23 - I gave this car to my son with 177k miles on it. It does not burn oil, rides and drives great, and the engine still has fantastic power. I would gladly buy another one, but I bought a pickup truck to do truck stuff.

    Looking for a certified or slightly used car with low mileage? I recently purchased a 2015 Regal Premium II AWD with only 1,600 miles on it and saved a lot of money. The savings made it a fantastic deal on a great car. There may be other options available at full price, but this car is a lot of fun to drive and comes with many nice and useful features. I highly recommend it! I'm glad I made the purchase and I'm sure it will be a great car to drive for a long time.
