Common 1998 Saturn Sw problems
The 1998 Saturn SW2 is known for its engine problems, with the most common issues being diagnostic codes PO117 and PO125. These codes relate to the engine's fuel and air delivery system, which can lead to a decrease in fuel efficiency and performance, as well as increased emissions.
The engine problems in the 1998 Saturn SW2 can be attributed to a variety of factors, including faulty sensors, clogged fuel injectors, and worn-out spark plugs. These issues can cause the engine to misfire, leading to a decrease in power and fuel efficiency. In some cases, the check engine light may illuminate, indicating that there is a problem with the engine's emissions control system.
Another common issue with the 1998 Saturn SW2 is the transmission, which can shift harshly or slip between gears. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including low transmission fluid levels, worn-out clutch plates, and faulty solenoids. In some cases, the transmission may need to be replaced entirely, which can be a costly repair.
The interior of the 1998 Saturn SW2 has also been criticized for its ultra-cheap materials and questionable styling. The dashboard and door panels are made from hard plastics that can crack and fade over time, and the seats are covered in a thin, uncomfortable fabric. The instrument panel is also criticized for its lack of features and poor visibility.
Despite these issues, the 1998 Saturn SW2 is generally considered to be a reliable car with a comfortable interior. However, it is important to note that the engine and transmission problems can be costly to repair, and it is recommended that owners keep up with regular maintenance to prevent these issues from occurring.
It is also worth noting that there are no recalls for the 1998 Saturn SW2, which suggests that the issues are not widespread or severe enough to warrant a recall by the NHTSA. However, it is still important for owners to be aware of these common problems and to address them promptly if they occur.
In conclusion, the 1998 Saturn SW2 is known for its engine and transmission problems, as well as its cheap interior materials and questionable styling. While the car is generally considered to be reliable, it is important for owners to be aware of these common issues and to address them promptly to prevent costly repairs.
