A single turbocharged 2.2-litre inline five-cylinder powered the original C4 version, and a 2.7-litre twin turbocharged V6 engine was found in the B5 generation. The B6 and B7 versions shared a common 4.2-litre V8 engine, the first time that a V8 engine was placed in a compact executive car, placing it in direct competition with the BMW M3 (3.2 L inline 6) and Mercedes-Benz C32 AMG (3.2-litre supercharged V6). The B8 generation uses a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine and competed with the BMW 335i, BMW 335i/340i xDrive, and Mercedes-Benz C350. The current B9 generation is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine, with rivals including the BMW M340i xDrive and Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG/Mercedes-AMG C43 4MATIC.
All versions of the S4 have been manufactured at Audi's plant in Ingolstadt, Germany; they are, or have been available as a four-door five-seat saloon and a five-door five-seat Avant (Audi's name for an estate car/station wagon) body styles since the model's inception in 1991. A two-door four-seat Cabriolet (convertible) S4 variant was introduced as part of the B6 and B7 generation A4 lineups. The B8 Cabriolet has now been built off the A5 coupe body style and the "S" variant is marketed under the Audi S5 nameplate.

IS IT GOING TO SUDDENLY APPLY THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE GOING 50-70 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND CAUSE A POSSIBILITY OF A VERY BAD ACCIDENT? THE ENGINE RPM'S SURGE WHILE COASTING TO A STOP, OR GOING DOWN, HILL ESPECIALLY WITH FOOT OFF THE PEDAL.

MY VEHICLE WAS THEN UNABLE TO REVERSE AND ALSO KEPT DROPPING AND JUMPING TO DIFFERENT GEARS. IT MADE A VERY UNSAFE AND SCARY DRIVE,I HELD UP ALOT OF TRAFFIC TRYING TO DRIVE BACK TO MY HOUSE. TO GET A NEW MECHATRONIC COST BETWENN 3-8 THOUSAND DOLLARS. ALSO THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF AUDI OWNERS ON THE WEB WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I THINK AUDI SHOULD RECALL THIS PART THAT IS CAUSING SO MANY ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE.

I've had my S4 for a few weeks now and I absolutely love it! The price is reasonable, especially when compared to the A4 with S-Line package. The supercharged engine is amazing, providing instant torque whenever you need it. The handling, grip and performance are great, and it effortlessly accelerates you to 80 mph before you can even get off the on-ramp! It makes driving fun, even during the boring commute to and from work. The 7-speed DSG can be a little aggressive on the shifting at times when you're driving it easy, but the Dynamic mode/Sport mode is great. The throttle/engine performance is brilliant. I took everything that was in the dealership, including the DSG 7-speed, differential, drive select, sound system, and Sat Nav. Normally, I would have only selected the DSG and diff, but I found that they all work well together. The differential is a must-have, but the drive select is also great, especially the comfort mode which has a much softer throttle, compliant suspension, and lighter steering. I use it around town. The most impressive thing about the car is how easy it is to use the performance. It's extremely safe and stable at all times and very comfortable on long trips - no more backaches or numbness. The real-world performance is surprising - no sound or fury at traffic lights - just a gentle right foot, and the car takes off.

Hey there! I've got some exciting news for you. This car is an absolute beast! It's faster than a BMW 335i/xi, Infiniti G37S, and Volkswagen GTI in the 0-60 category. It may be slower than a BMW M3, Porsche Carrera S, and Chevrolet Corvette, but it's still a force to be reckoned with. In the 1/4 mile, it's better than a Ford Mustang GT, Camaro SS, and Nissan 370Z, but slower than a Mitsubishi Evo X, Porsche Cayman S, and Lexus IS-F. The interior fit and finish are superb, and the bucket seats are excellent, especially in two-tone. The MMI interface is way better than BMW's iDrive, but the external cables can be a bit expensive. The brakes are phenomenal, and the cornering is breathtaking. Lastly, I wanted to mention that Audi's 333 hp rating is horribly wrong, possibly due to the delayed RS4. Thanks for reading!

I drove the S4 and ended up buying it with the prestige package, rear sport differential, rear side air bags, and silk nappa leather. I must say, it's a much nicer quality car than the BM's I tested. The S4 is both beautiful inside and out. The ride is smooth and the car is quiet, until you unleash the beast under the hood. The S4 handles great and is very fast. I highly recommend this car!
