2007 Audi S4 problems
The Audi S4 is the high performance variant of Audi's compact executive car A4. The original Audi S4, built from 1991 until 1994, was a performance-oriented version of Audi's 100 saloon/sedan. All subsequent S4s since 1997 have been based on the Audi A4; and as the A4 has evolved from one generation to the next, so has the S4.
Like its regular A4 counterpart, all S4 variants have had longitudinally oriented, front-mounted engines. All versions of the S4 have their transmission mounted immediately at the rear of the engine in a longitudinal orientation, in the form of a transaxle, and like all Audi "S" cars, are only available as standard with Audi's quattro all-wheel drive (AWD) system, using a Torsen-based centre differential system. A more powerful internal combustion engine, larger upgraded brakes, firmer suspension, larger wheels, and distinctive sheetmetal, styling clues and badging have always been amongst the many upgrades the S4 receives over its mainstream 100 and A4 siblings. In markets where the even higher-performance Audi RS 4 is not offered, the S4 is the top-of-the-line trim of the A4 family.
A single turbocharged 2.2-litre inline five-cylinder powered the original C4 version, and a 2.7-litre twin turbocharged V6 engine was found in the B5 generation. The B6 and B7 versions shared a common 4.2-litre V8 engine, the first time that a V8 engine was placed in a compact executive car, placing it in direct competition with the BMW M3 (3.2 L inline 6) and Mercedes-Benz C32 AMG (3.2-litre supercharged V6). The B8 generation uses a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine and competed with the BMW 335i, BMW 335i/340i xDrive, and Mercedes-Benz C350. The current B9 generation is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine, with rivals including the BMW M340i xDrive and Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG/Mercedes-AMG C43 4MATIC.
All versions of the S4 have been manufactured at Audi's plant in Ingolstadt, Germany; they are, or have been available as a four-door five-seat saloon and a five-door five-seat Avant (Audi's name for an estate car/station wagon) body styles since the model's inception in 1991. A two-door four-seat Cabriolet (convertible) S4 variant was introduced as part of the B6 and B7 generation A4 lineups. The B8 Cabriolet has now been built off the A5 coupe body style and the "S" variant is marketed under the Audi S5 nameplate.

Common 2007 Audi S4 problems
The Audi S4, a high-performance sedan from the German automaker, has been a popular choice among car enthusiasts since its inception. However, like any vehicle, the 2007 Audi S4 has its fair share of common problems that potential buyers should be aware of.
One of the most common issues reported by owners is overheating due to a failing thermostat. The thermostat is responsible for regulating the engine's temperature, and if it fails, the engine can overheat, potentially causing severe damage. It is recommended to inspect the thermostat regularly and replace it if necessary.
Another common problem with the Audi S4 is the Check Engine Light due to a faulty torque converter. The torque converter is a crucial component of the automatic transmission, and if it fails, it can cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate. It is recommended to have the torque converter checked and replaced if necessary to avoid any further damage to the transmission.
The Audi S4's engine, a 4.2-liter V8, has been criticized for being needy and having timing chain guide issues
. The timing chain guides are responsible for keeping the timing chain in place, and if they fail, it can cause the timing chain to jump or break, resulting in significant engine damage. It is recommended to have the timing chain guides inspected and replaced if necessary to avoid any further damage to the engine.
In addition to the engine issues, the Audi S4's automatic transmission has also been criticized for not being properly maintained, with the gearbox oil often not being changed. It is recommended to change the gearbox oil immediately after purchasing an automatic Audi S4 to avoid any potential issues.
The rear differential oil should also be changed to ensure the smooth operation of the differential.
In summary, the 2007 Audi S4 is a high-performance sedan with some common problems that potential buyers should be aware of. These include overheating due to a failing thermostat, Check Engine Light due to a faulty torque converter, timing chain guide issues, improperly maintained automatic transmission, and air conditioning system problems. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these issues and ensure the longevity of the vehicle.

I bought this car a few months ago and I'm really enjoying the V8 power and crisp handling. This is my first Audi and I must say, I'm very impressed. The gas mileage is below average, but I knew this going in and I don't think the car should be penalized for it.

I've had my '05 S4 for a year now and put 15000 miles on it. While it's a great car, I still prefer my old '00 model with the bi-turbo. If I hadn't driven that one, I'd be head over heels for this one. The '00 was faster, tighter, and had more torque. This car does consume a lot of gas, especially with the current price of $2.60 per gallon. The '00 was more economical in comparison. The heating and AC in the '05 model can be a bit tricky to adjust. The dealer says it's a new system, but I personally preferred the old one. Only 2 more years left on my lease, though. Overall, it's a great car and I'm happy with it.

I have owned a lot of vehicles and I have to say that my S4 is by far the best I have ever owned. The acceleration is mind-boggling, and the car handles at high speeds better than my old M3. The sound of the motor is music to anyone's ears, especially over 5k on the tach.

After test driving a new Corvette and a Boxster S, I drove the Audi S4. I must say, I fell in love with the S4! It has great looks, the sweetest interior, and a cool sounding exhaust note. The MMI system and the Sirius radio are also great features that help keep my mind from driving this car as fast as it wants to go!

Looking for an AWD Sport Sedan for 6 months in the snowy and hilly NE was quite a task. Unfortunately, I didn't find any that I loved until I saw this car at the dealer. One test drive was all it took to convince me that this was the car for me. It has everything that the others lacked - acceleration, cornering, grip, and more - without the
