2023 Audi Q7 problems

audi logo

The Audi Q7 is a crossover SUV made by the German manufacturer Audi, unveiled in September 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Production of this seven-seater SUV began in the autumn of 2005 at the Volkswagen Bratislava Plant in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The Q7 was the first SUV sold by Audi and went on sale in 2006. Later, Audi's second SUV, the Q5, was unveiled as a 2009 model. Audi has since unveiled a third SUV model, the Q3, which went on sale in the third quarter of 2011, and a fourth SUV model, the Q2, which went on sale in November 2016. The Q7 shares a Volkswagen Group MLB platform and chassis with the Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne and the Volkswagen Touareg.

The Q7 is the second largest vehicle from Audi, after its exterior size was being surpassed by the Q6 since 2022. While the Q7 has been the flagship SUV in Audi's product portfolio, a top-of-the-line model with a lower roof, called the Audi Q8, was released in 2018.

It was one of the vehicles involved in the Volkswagen emissions scandal, with the company ordered to buy back some of the affected cars manufactured between 2009 and 2012. The Q7 is also subject to hundreds of NTSB complaints with many relating to potentially catastrophic engine failure issues, and a class-action lawsuit related to squealing brakes.

Negative 2023 Audi Q7 car reviews

  1. Blaise Schmeler 2024-11-08

I confidently traded my 2023Q7 back in to the dealership with only 80 miles on it. Although it started throwing errors and electronics began failing as soon as I drove off the lot, I knew it was a great vehicle. I was so impressed with the car that I bought another one with the trade-in/return and after 3k miles, I have had no issues with car #2.

  2. Dean Gaylord 2024-08-20

There is no consul space available, and the finger touch panel is overly complicated, making it difficult to set the heater to NO FAN! Additionally, the GPS is also faulty and unreliable.

  3. Braden Ernser 2024-07-24

I found MMI to be quite demanding and frustrating for everyone involved. It doesn't allow for the entry of new destinations while the car is in motion, drops saved destinations, and sometimes has trouble connecting via Apple Carplay. The worst part is the $85 monthly charge for updated maps and traffic. It's a shame that the nice Audi navigation graphics go to waste while we use our phone nav apps that provide traffic and updated maps for free. With only 4,000 miles on the car, I had to buy a new tire for $500 after running over a screw. Unfortunately, the run flat tire could not be repaired. It seems that Audi and Pirelli have a nice arrangement, but it's not so great for the customer. I think Audi has calculated that people won't go for all the options with the Premium Plus 3 liter if they make less than fully loaded vehicles available, so they load them all up with options you would never buy if you had the choice. For example, $400 for the door ring lights that illuminate not all!?!? I bought this car because the older Q5 I had was such a pleasure to own and drive, but I think I would have done better with Volvo this time around.

I decided to buy an Audi when I needed to hand down my Lincoln Aviator to an employee. However, I have been experiencing some issues with it. Below is a list of my complaints. The lane assist can be jerky, so I turned it off, but it seems to turn back on randomly. The sunglasses compartment is quite small and located at my left knee, so if you forget to close it, you might hit your knee on it when you exit the car. The phone charger is located in the console, which is only 2 inches deep and can cause the phone to overheat. The cup holders are quite tight, so be careful not to puncture a styrofoam cup when placing it in the holder. The parking sensors do not warn me when I'm getting close to an object in front of me when parking straight into a spot. Sometimes, the adaptive cruise control changes the speed abruptly when it detects a new speed limit. Despite these issues, the car looks great (I had it wrapped in red) and the air ride model makes for a very smooth ride. However, I would not recommend it to anyone.

  5. Jasen Robel 2024-07-08

I appreciate the technology and interior design. However, the 3rd row seating is not very useful and the 2.0T motor is underpowered for a vehicle of this size.

Positive 2023 Audi Q7 car reviews

  1. Charlie Kozey 2024-09-21

I hope you're enjoying your new ride! The technology sounds awesome, and it's great that the ITM and MMI are so handy.

  2. Seamus Bradtke 2024-08-29

    Great driving!

  3. Maxwell Parker 2024-07-19

I'm so happy with my Audi Q7 Prestige 2023! As a 76-year-old with back issues, I was looking for a comfortable and quiet ride, and the Q7 definitely delivers. Compared to its competitors, the Q7 has better power and the engine noise is smooth and almost unnoticeable. The interior is beautifully designed and definitely worth the price. Although the information system was new to me, once I learned Audi's approach, it was easy to use. I tested several luxury models and found that manufacturers are underpowering these heavy vehicles to gain MPG, but that's not the case for the Audi, especially with the V6 engine.

  4. Horace Morar 2024-07-18

I have owned my Q7 55 TFSI for 16 months, have driven it about 20,000 miles, and I am very happy with it overall. There are definitely some improvements Audi could make. Not enough storage in the center console and I am not a fan of no spare tire, to name a few.Others complain about fuel consumption, but I find it to be very fuel efficient. If I don’t drive it hard, or over 75 on the freeway I get 29 mpg, depending upon the weather. Since driving off the dealer lot I have gotten 21.1 mpg overall. I had a V6 VW Atlas that had a hard time getting 23 mpg and I had Ford Expedition that didn’t really ever get over 21 mpg. I think the Q7 is fuel efficient for a 5,000 pound SUV. If your experience is with smaller, lighter, less powerful vehicles, or you have a heavy right foot, you may disagree with me. This is by far the quietest vehicle I have owned. Is it silent inside? No, but it is extremely quiet on decent roads and it can can give a feeling of serenity. This is also a very comfortable vehicle in the front and middle seats, the third row is tolerable for adults on short trips. 98% of the time I have had the third row stowed in my vehicles and it’s not a problem.Other high points: The electronics have worked very well and the Bang & Olufson 3D stereo is terrific. The eight speed transmission is sublime. For a three row SUV it has very good handling, the V6 turbo makes it quick, and it can be a lot of fun to drive. I would recommend this vehicle based on my experience. If you need a SUV that can tow and has a third row this is a great choice.

I love everything about this vehicle. It rides great, it's luxurious, spacious, and meets all of our family's needs.
