2009 Audi Q7 problems
The Audi Q7 is a crossover SUV made by the German manufacturer Audi, unveiled in September 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Production of this seven-seater SUV began in the autumn of 2005 at the Volkswagen Bratislava Plant in Bratislava, Slovakia.
The Q7 was the first SUV sold by Audi and went on sale in 2006. Later, Audi's second SUV, the Q5, was unveiled as a 2009 model. Audi has since unveiled a third SUV model, the Q3, which went on sale in the third quarter of 2011, and a fourth SUV model, the Q2, which went on sale in November 2016. The Q7 shares a Volkswagen Group MLB platform and chassis with the Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne and the Volkswagen Touareg.
The Q7 is the second largest vehicle from Audi, after its exterior size was being surpassed by the Q6 since 2022. While the Q7 has been the flagship SUV in Audi's product portfolio, a top-of-the-line model with a lower roof, called the Audi Q8, was released in 2018.
It was one of the vehicles involved in the Volkswagen emissions scandal, with the company ordered to buy back some of the affected cars manufactured between 2009 and 2012. The Q7 is also subject to hundreds of NTSB complaints with many relating to potentially catastrophic engine failure issues, and a class-action lawsuit related to squealing brakes.

While these issues may not pose a significant safety risk, they can affect the overall user experience and satisfaction with the vehicle.
- Lights Problems: Another common problem reported by owners of the 2009 Audi Q7 is lights problems. This can include malfunctions with headlights, tail lights, or interior lighting. Properly functioning lights are crucial for both safety and visibility, so any issues with the vehicle's lighting system should be addressed promptly.
- Fuel System Problems: The 2009 Audi Q7 has been reported to have problems with the fuel system. This can include issues with fuel delivery, fuel pressure, or fuel injectors. - Powered Tailgate Recall: The 2009 Audi Q7 was subject to a recall due to a faulty powered tailgate that could close abruptly and unexpectedly following opening using the power function. This poses a safety risk to both the user and the vehicle.
- Brake Servo Vacuum Feed Line Fault: Another recall was issued due to a faulty brake servo vacuum feed line that could allow engine oil into the servo, reducing braking performance. This issue can lead to safety risks and should be addressed promptly.
- Tire Wear: The 2009 Audi Q7 has been reported to have issues with tire wear, with the outside edges wearing substantially faster than any other area. This can lead to reduced vehicle performance and safety, as well as increased maintenance costs.
In summary, the 2009 Audi Q7 has several common problems reported by owners, including engine issues, interior accessories malfunctions, lights problems, fuel system concerns, electrical issues, air suspension glitches, timing chain tensioner problems, recall-related concerns, and tire wear. SEATS,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-07-16
- VIN: WA1AY74L09D
- Components: SEATS,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I purchased this vehicle used on 7/14/21 from Audi of Des Moines. Not even 3 days after purchasing, the rear view mirror fell down, the back of the front driver and passenger seats came off, the car had been hail damaged at the dealership but they didn't inspect the entire car so I have to replace the windshield and front license plate plastic grill attachment. However, my biggest concern is the smell of Gasoline after I drive the vehicle, every time. There is a strong odor of gasoline near both rear doors/wheels that can be smelled after stepping out of the vehicle and the engine has been lagging. I have filled the gas tank 3 times and each time used premium gasoline. I can't get any information as to whether or not my specific vehicle has had the 2 fuel recalls checked and/or serviced. I am beyond frustrated and feel like I was sold a lemon. Of course the dealership will not help me because they sold it as is no return policy. Mind you that stated that all they did to it was wash it and clean the inside prior to selling it to me and did not do any kind of thorough inspection.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-07-20
- VIN: WA1CV74L19D
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: NOTICED A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL IN THE ENCLOSED GARAGE WHERE THE VEHICLE IS KEPT. RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ONLINE AND DISCOVERED SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE THE PRESSURIZED FUEL FILTER ASSEMBLY ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK (LEFT SIDE, BENEATH SECOND ROW REAR SEAT) DEVELOPS CRACKS IN THE PLASTIC AND EMITS A FINE SPRAY OF FUEL. I REMOVED THE SECOND ROW SEAT AND DISCOVERED A POOL OF LIQUID GASOLINE ON TOP OF THE PRESSURIZED FUEL FILTER. AUDI HAS AN EXISTING RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V660000, WHICH MERELY "INSTALLS A BUTYL RUBBER BAND TO PROTECT THE PUMP" AND WHICH I HAVE ALREADY HAD PERFORMED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A DIFFERENT ISSUE IN THAT THE FUEL FILTER ITSELF DEVELOPS CRACKS AND FISSURES THAT ALLOW PRESSURIZED FUEL TO ESCAPE. IN THE PICTURE YOU CAN SEE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR APPEARS TO BE IMMERSED IN LIQUID GASOLINE.

- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, AIR
- Summary: WE TOOK OUR 2009 AUDI Q7 IN TO CHANGE THE HEADLAMP. WHILE THERE, AUDIT INFORMED US THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE WERE SURPRISED GIVEN THAT THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 25,037 MILES ON IT. AUDI INFORMED US THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING WITH THE Q7 AND THAT THE BRAKES ARE HAVING A SHORTER USEFUL LIFE THAN EXPECTED. WE DID NOT HAVE ANY INJURIES, BUT WE WERE CHARGED $1,448.84 FOR AN ISSUE THAT SEEMS LIKE IT SHOULD BE AUDI'S PROBLEM. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT OTHERS DRIVING Q7'S WHO MAY NOT REALIZE THAT THE BRAKES COULD FAIL AROUND 25,000 MILES. *TR
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-11-01
- VIN: WA1AY74L69D
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: I STARTED THE LEMON LAW PROCESS A YEAR AGO FOR THIS VEHICLE THINKING THAT IT WAS DEFECTIVE. I HAVE ONLY RECENTLY BEEN INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM I AM EXPERIENCING IS A DESIGN FEATURE, THEY EVEN CALLED IT A "SAFETY FEATURE" - BUT IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. IF YOUR FOOT TOUCHES THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE YOUR ARE ACCELERATING, THE ENGINE WILL SHUTDOWN TO AN IDLE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, ALLOWING THE TRAFFIC THAT YOU ARE PULLING OUT INTO TO ALMOST CRASH INTO YOU. WITH AS MANY CLOSE CALLS AS I HAVE HAD, I AM CERTAIN THAT THERE HAVE BEEN ACCIDENTS (AND PERHAPS DEATHS) REPORTED WITH THIS VEHICLE WHERE MAYBE THE DRIVER DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND, OF COURSE, NOTHING WAS EVER FOUND TO BE WRONG WITH THE VEHICLES BECAUSE IT WAS WORKING AS INTENDED! LET ME EXPLAIN MY OWN SITUATION A LITTLE BETTER. FIRST, I DO NOT DRIVE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. BUT, SUBCONSCIOUSLY (I HAVE DISCOVERED), AT THE MOST DANGEROUS TIMES (WHEN I ALWAYS NOTICED THAT THIS PROBLEM SEEMED TO OCCUR) I DO PUT MY LEFT FOOT OVER THE BRAKE WHILE MY RIGHT FOOT IS OVER THE GAS PEDAL. I DO THIS BECAUSE I WANT TO BE READY TO PRESS EITHER ONE WITHOUT ANY HESITATION IF NEEDED. FOR EXAMPLE WHEN TURNING LEFT INTO BUSY TRAFFIC, OR PASSING SOMEONE ON A BUSY INTERSTATE. THESE ARE THE TIMES WHEN THIS MOSTLY HAPPENS TO ME. THE PROBLEM IS, OF COURSE, THAT IF I EVEN EVER SO SLIGHTLY TOUCH THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE COMPUTER SHUTS THE CAR DOWN TO AN IDLE WITH NO POWER, AND INSTEAD OF ACCELERATING, MY CAR BEGINS TO SLOW DOWN! AND I CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, AFTER WHICH TIME IT VERY SLOWLY "COMES BACK TO LIFE". NOW THAT I KNOW HOW IT WORKS, IT IS VERY EASY TO DUPLICATE THIS PROBLEM. IT WAS VERY OBVIOUSLY DESIGNED THIS WAY AND IN MY OPINION, IT IS A VERY UNSAFE VEHICLE. EDIT: THERE WAS NO OPTION FOR "SOFTWARE" IN THE DROP-DOWN LIST FOR COMPLAINT NAME. BUT THIS IS VERY OBVIOUSLY A SOFTWARE ISSUE. ALSO, DATE OF INCIDENT, SPEED AND MILEAGE ARE N/A, AS IT HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED ON 12/30/2009. *TR
2009 Audi Q7 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2009 Audi Q7.

- Components: EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS
- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2009-2015 Q7 vehicles. The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) listed on the certification label is incorrect, which can allow the vehicle to be overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims," and Part 567, "Certification."
- Consequence: An overloaded vehicle can increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will install an overlay label containing the correct rear GAWR on top of the existing safety certification label, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 14, 2023. Owners may contact Audi's customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 50G5.

I've been a proud owner of a Volvo XC90 AWD since 2004, but I was looking for a change. After test driving the BMW X5, Land Rover, and the Audi Q7, I decided to go with the Q7 and I have never regretted my decision! The car's effortless driving and sumptuous interior continue to impress and amaze me. This is my first Audi, and I am already looking forward to my next one. The MMI system works great, much better than the iDrive in my wife's BMW 3 series, and the advanced parking system makes short work of tight parking spaces.
-
I've had my Q7 for a few weeks now and I am absolutely impressed with it. The ride, design, and comfort are unparalleled. As a technophile, this vehicle satisfies all my needs. The iPod/iPhone interface is seamless, the navigation is user-friendly, and the overall MMI provides all the information I could ask for. I opted for the adaptive air suspension, which has proven to be an excellent choice, allowing me to adjust the ride depending on the conditions.
-
Before purchasing my Audi Q7, I owned an Acura Mdx (2007) for 2 years. In my opinion, the Audi is a better looking car both inside and out. It also provides a smoother ride at highway speeds (75 mph and up for sure). It feels more like a sports sedan. The interior is top of its class as well. However, the Audi's navigation system is completely inferior to Acura's nav. The smaller screen size and the absence of Acura's joystick-like control make a huge difference. Audi's system is simply frustrating to use. I would give it a D.
-
I had previously owned an 02 and 05 X5, but I needed something larger. I now have 3000 miles on my new car and have experienced no problems. I absolutely love the S-Line option, but I do find it unfair that Audi takes 2 points off the residual value for leases when you pay more.
-
The car drives smoothly and has plenty of pick up, despite what some posts may suggest. The Quattro AWD system is excellent in bad weather and, with the correct tires, almost unstoppable in snow. The seats are very comfortable and there is plenty of room for the whole family. After 20,000 miles, the brakes and tires are still in good condition. Some posts may suggest otherwise, but this is often due to how the car is driven. The tires should last until 50,000 miles. While the fuel economy may not be great, if you can afford the car, you can afford the gas. Otherwise, you could consider purchasing a Yaris.

This car has a lot of great features! It handles like a dream and is much more comfortable than most luxury SUVs. However, there are a few areas that could use improvement. For example, the interior has some cheap plastic components that can break easily, such as the footrest to the left of the brake pedal. Additionally, the doors are not as sturdy as those on BMW or Mercedes models. I experienced this firsthand when I broke an interior mechanism while opening the door on an icy morning. The cup holder placement above a non-sealed system is also a bit of a design flaw, as even a small spill can cause significant damage. Finally, the car does not perform well in snowy conditions and the fuel economy could be better. Overall, though, this is a great car with a lot of positive attributes.

I purchased my Q7 in July 2009 and immediately noticed that the brakes were squeaking loudly. Despite being told that this was normal for a heavy vehicle or due to humidity, I have AudiCare and have asked for the brakes to be inspected at every visit. Unfortunately, I was only advised to spray water directly at the brakes to reduce the noise. When I brought the car back in at around 25k miles, the Service Department suggested that I drive on an open road and brake quickly a few times, which was not a satisfactory solution. As a loyal Audi customer, I would like to feel confident that the company stands by its products. I had hoped to feel happy about our purchase, but instead, I feel somewhat

Audi cars are reliable and of high quality, especially when they are brand new. However, like any car, they require maintenance and repairs over time. It is important to keep up with regular maintenance to ensure the car's longevity. While repairs can be expensive, it is worth investing in the car's upkeep to maintain its value. With proper care, an Audi can provide a great driving experience for many years.

We signed a lease on this car at the last minute, hoping to pay it off at the end of the lease term. Unfortunately, during the first two years, we had to take it to the shop every other month due to a persistent AC problem. Despite the car's great driving experience and appearance, we were disappointed with the frequent repairs and the abundance of plastic parts in the interior, especially considering the price. As a result, we are excited to turn it in and move on from this experience. We are considering returning to Toyota or Volvo for our next car purchase.

I see that you have experience with the LR3, X5, and Q7. It's unfortunate to hear that you've had some issues with the Q7. It sounds like you've had problems with the brakes wearing out quickly, rear lift gate issues, and the interior feeling cramped and uncomfortable. Additionally, it seems that the MPG is not as advertised based on your calculations. I understand that your teen kids are eager to get a new SUV, but it's good to hear that you have a reliable BMW sedan for local trips to ski resorts and beaches. I hope that you find the perfect SUV for your family when the lease is over.
