Based on the MEB platform, it is the fifth battery electric model in the Audi e-tron series. Overview

The Q5 e-tron was revealed at the 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show as the first three-row model of the e-tron series, and the ninth model that is based on the MEB platform. While sporting a separate exterior design, dashboard design is derived from the Q4 e-tron, with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen.

Two variants are offered, which are the Q5 40 e-tron and Q5 50 e-tron quattro. The Q5 40 e-tron is powered by a single 201 hp (204 PS; 150 kW) motor, while the flagship Q5 50 e-tron quattro features a dual-motor setup with 301 hp (305 PS; 224 kW) and all-wheel drive. Common 2020 Audi Q5 e problems

The 2020 Audi Q5 e 55 Premium, a luxury SUV, has been reported to have several common issues and problems, primarily related to the engine, electrical system, and recalls.

One of the most concerning issues reported is the engine catching fire unexpectedly due to a turbocharger wastegate malfunction

. This incident resulted in the evacuation of the vehicle and required the use of a fire extinguisher to put out the flames. While this appears to be an isolated incident, it raises concerns about the reliability and safety of the engine.

Another issue reported is related to the electrical system, specifically the SUV's computer system, which has been known to shut off all systems suddenly, causing the vehicle to stop and turn off by itself

. This issue has been reported multiple times online, although there are only a few complaints about it in the NHTSA database. This problem could potentially be fatal if it occurs during rush hour on a highway.

In addition to these issues, the 2020 Audi Q5 e 55 Premium has been subject to five recalls

. These recalls address various problems, such as wheel arch cover trim potentially detaching, front seat backrest frames not being welded properly, rear axle lock nuts possibly breaking, control module shutdowns reducing engine power, and rear axles potentially being misaligned. These recalls are indicative of the vehicle's overall reliability and the potential for further issues to arise.

When considering purchasing a 2020 Audi Q5 e 55 Premium, it is essential to be aware of these common problems and the vehicle's recall history. While the Q5 is a fantastic luxury SUV, it is not without its issues, particularly concerning the engine and electrical system. Prospective buyers should weigh these concerns against the vehicle's positive attributes, such as its quick powertrain, high-tech interior, and appealing styling.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-05
  • VIN: WA1ENAFY5L2
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: My Transmission failed to go in forward and was racing in drive. I put it reverse and that worked but put back into drive it races then makes a bang and instantly goes into drive. I had car towed to Audi of Allentown. They initially went over vehicle couldn't find issue then it did it to them. They said it had a code for solenoid. They changed valve body and it had codes so they were in contact with Audi Hotline they had them change Mechatronic unit also and the issue was solved, They sent me video, I picked up car and gave them loaner back, I used car local after a few times then it did it again. Had car towed to Audi of Allentown again, they couldn't find issue and sent me video of car. I went to pickup vehicle and they were getting vehicle ready and it did it to them and they said they would let service know. They gave me a loaner. I've called and they haven't had vehicle do it again until today. They videoed it and sent it to Audi Hotline (engineers). There waiting on a reply from Audi. The vehicle is unsafe-- if it did it to me while entering a highway and cut out I could be hit in from rear and it would be a catastrophic accident. Or if it did this at a crosswalk that could be another issue but with pedestrians. If I get car back and it happens again then it cant be fixed and its unsafe I'll need to get a lawyer to rectify this situation.

  • VIN: WA1ENAFY5L2
  • Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: The vehicle is a 2020 Audi Q5 Premium Plus model with 15,525 miles on it. I was driving at 55 mph on a two lane country road and approaching an intersection at 11:55 AM ET. Road and weather conditions were perfect. Clear, sunny weather and 65 degrees. Recently paved roadway which was clear and dry. There were no vehicles in front, behind or at the intersection. No pedestrians or animals. Cruise control was off. My foot was on the accelerator pedal. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, the Audi Pre-Sense system engaged. The brakes were automatically applied which instantly reduced speed to about 40 mph. Steering wheel shook briefly, there was a brief audible alert, and then a Audi PreSense triangle warning symbol appeared on the instrument gauge cluster. I was thrown into my seat belt when the car quickly decelerated. The entire incident was probably 5 seconds although it seemed longer in the moment. I startled but maintained control of the vehicle. Luckily, I have a previously scheduled dealer maintenance appointment this coming week. This item will be at the top of the list.
