2009 Dodge Avenger problems
The Dodge Avenger is a front-wheel drive, mid-sized sedan that was marketed by Dodge. The Avenger made its North American debut in 1994 for the 1995 model year as a coupe that was produced until 2000. The model name was reintroduced to the market as a four-door sports sedan starting in 2007 for the 2008 model year. The Dodge Avenger name had earlier been used on South African market Hillman Avengers in 1975 and 1976.
The 2014 model year marked the end of Avenger production as the mid-sized models for both the Dodge and Chrysler brands were consolidated into the new Chrysler 200 introduced for the 2015 model year while Dodge received the new compact Dart.
Nameplate history
The first use of the Dodge Avenger name was on a badge engineered version of the European Hillman Avenger, exclusive to South Africa. The same car was sold in North America as the Plymouth Cricket between 1972 and 1974. In place of the Hillman engines, this version used a Peugeot 1.6 litre engine (as also installed in locally assembled Peugeot 404s) in order to satisfy local content requirements. The Dodge-branded Avenger was introduced in 1975 and was then renamed Chrysler in 1976. This generation has nothing in common with later Dodge Avengers. After Chrysler ZA was merged into Sigma in 1976, the Avenger was soon cancelled to allow Sigma to free up more production capacity for the Mazda 323.

I also don't understand the poor ratings from Edmunds. This car is amazing! I call it my mini-Charger! The exterior styling is great, and the interior styling is nice with my SXT (older version as the 'newer' '09 SXT is the earlier '09 SE-a bit confusing)! The sound system is excellent, and there is huge interior and trunk space. It's a real head-turner! I'm 6-4

I've had my R/T for almost a year now and it's still just as enjoyable to drive as the day I bought it. The R/T suspension is tight, with minimal body roll in the corners, and the leather-trimmed seats are firm but comfortable. I'm happy to report that I haven't experienced any defects in the first year of ownership. While the hard plastic material of the dash could be improved, the fit and finish is excellent. But, let's be honest, who really cares about that when you're having so much fun driving? If it bothers me, I'll just get a dash mat to cover it. My R/T came with the 4-cylinder engine, which isn't the most powerful, but it handles the mountains in NM OK. The 4-speed transmission is the weakest part of the drivetrain, but it's exactly what I was looking for. Plus, it gets great gas mileage for my 65-mile commute.

We bought this 2009 Avenger brand new with only 103 miles on it. We absolutely love the exterior and interior, and it rides and drives great! I hope I will continue to enjoy it just as much when it reaches 103,000 miles. :)

Hey there! Just a quick reminder to check the valve gaskets for any oil leaks.

I purchased my '09 Avenger SXT at the end of June, trading in my trusty '03 Intrepid. While the Intrepid had served me well, it was time for an upgrade, and I was excited to switch back to a 4-cylinder engine. During the test drive, I was pleasantly surprised by the car's performance, which exceeded my expectations. Two months later, I am still thrilled with my purchase. The satellite radio is a great feature, and the interior is spacious and comfortable. The car handles with ease and is incredibly smooth. I did encounter a blind spot issue, but I was able to resolve it quickly. Overall, I am very satisfied with my Avenger SXT!

At 50,000 miles, my car is leaking water onto the passenger floor board. After consulting with my mechanic, it has been determined that the whole dashboard will need to be removed. Additionally, I have had to replace two sets of brake pads. Despite these challenges, I remain confident in my ability to address these issues and ensure the longevity of my vehicle.
Vincent Mertz 2024-05-13
I noticed that I have already driven 16k miles. I use my car all the time, but I have to admit that the seats are quite hard and the back seat feels a bit cramped. I also find that the front seat could be more comfortable if it were flatter. Unfortunately, I haven't had great gas mileage either. Additionally, the visibility is not great and there are some blind spots.
