2024 Toyota Camry problems
The Toyota Camry (/ˈkæmri/; Japanese: トヨタ・カムリ Toyota Kamuri) is an automobile sold internationally by the Japanese auto manufacturer Toyota since 1982, spanning multiple generations. Originally compact in size (narrow-body), the Camry has grown since the 1990s to fit the mid-size classification (wide-body)—although the two widths co-existed in that decade. Since the release of the wide-bodied versions, Camry has been extolled by Toyota as the firm's second "world car" after the Corolla. As of 2022, the Camry is positioned above the Corolla and below the Avalon or Crown in several markets.
In Japan, Camry was once exclusive to Toyota Corolla Store retail dealerships. Narrow-body cars also spawned a rebadged sibling in Japan, the Toyota Vista (トヨタ・ビスタ)—also introduced in 1982 and sold at Toyota Vista Store locations. Diesel fuel versions have previously retailed at Toyota Diesel Store. The Vista Ardeo was a wagon version of the Vista V50.
Etymology
The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

Common 2024 Toyota Camry problems
The 2024 Toyota Camry is known for its reliability and excellent reputation for engineering. However, some owners have reported specific issues with their vehicles.
One of the most common problems is a knocking noise in the rear, which occurs only when the car has a full tank of gas. This issue has been reported by owners of the 2023 model, and despite multiple visits to the dealership, no permanent solution has been found. The dealership initially replaced the fuel tank, but the noise persisted. After another diagnostic, the dealership claimed that it is a "normal" noise for the 2023 model, implying that they do not intend to fix it. This has led to significant frustration among owners, who feel that Toyota is refusing to address a legitimate issue under warranty.
Another issue reported by owners is the interior constantly rattling, with all sorts of squeaking and rattling noises heard while driving. This has been described as an indication of a cheaply made interior, which is disappointing for a car that costs nearly $40,000 brand new. Additionally, the heated seats have been reported to barely work, with the highest setting providing only mild warmth. This has led to disappointment among owners, who expected better performance from a premium car.
The 2024 Toyota Camry has also been criticized for its slow acceleration, with owners reporting that they have to press the gas pedal hard to go, which is irritating and can lead to foot ache. This has been described as a significant downside, especially when driving around town. The SE model has also been criticized for being too bumpy, with owners preferring a smoother ride. The engine has also been described as loud, with friends and family mentioning it when starting the car. This has been described as surprising, given the car's price point.
Another issue reported by owners is the lack of a push-button start, which is expected in a car at this price point. The drivers' side seat adjustments are electric, but the passenger side is not, which has been described as inconvenient. The sound system has also been criticized for being awful, with owners expecting better sound quality for a car at this price point. The car also lacks many safety features, which has been described as disappointing. There have also been reports of the car not starting all the way, which is concerning, given that the car is brand new.
In summary, while the 2024 Toyota Camry is known for its reliability and excellent reputation for engineering, some owners have reported specific issues with their vehicles, including a knocking noise in the rear, a cheaply made interior, slow acceleration, a bumpy ride, a loud engine, the lack of a push-button start, and poor sound quality. These issues have led to frustration among owners, who feel that Toyota is not addressing their concerns under warranty.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-01
- VIN: 4T1R11AK9RU
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: I am an Uber driver and most passengers normally sitting in the rear (passenger/right side), have issues opening the door while exiting the vehicle. They generally pull the lever expecting the the door to open, but I always have to tell them to pull the lever while simultaneously pushing the door outwards (which is abnormal). This problem has been ongoing since I purchased this vehicle new in December of 2023. I reported this issue to my local Toyota dealership.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-03
- VIN: 4T1G11AK2RU
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Purchased a 2024 Camry SE with defective rear glass. Glass is uneven along the horizontal defroster lines creating a wavy effect. This greatly affects the visibility and clarity of vehicles in the rearview mirror. Vehicle was taken to the Toyota dealership and was told replacement would not be covered by warranty. My previous 2021 Camry did not have this issue and was an identical model, nor have I encountered this issue in other vehicles thus far. The lack of explanation or willingness to help from the dealership is frustrating as it is extremely annoying to deal with on a daily basis.
WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-02
- VIN: 4T1K31AK3RU
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: Friday, August 2, 2024 – While driving car on [XXX] in Portland, OR major unknown problem surfaced. Had car towed into dealership, paying a towing fee of $217.50. Seven hundred nine (709) miles were on odometer. Saturday, August 1, 2024 – Telephoned Royal Moore Toyota and spoke with George Stavrakis – every lug nut on all four (4) wheels were loose and only finger tight. Plus three (3) studs on right rear wheel were broken off. New rim would be needed. George stated that because I had my oil changed by Walmart that they (Walmart) must have loosed all the lug nuts. I had watched Walmart service the vehicle the entire time and Walmart never touched the lug nuts. Monday, August 5, 2024 – Our insurance agent informed me that that National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had issued a recall (number 23V432000) for 2023 Toyota Camry XSE Hybrids because of significantly under torquing of the lug nuts. We noted that although my car was a 2024 it was built in 2023. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-20
- VIN: 4T1G11AK9RU
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS
- Summary: on June 20th, 2024, my vehicle started making a vibration and roaring sound at 3k miles at speeds as low as 35 MPH and gets louder the faster you go. the steering wheel also has a vibration. The noise and vibration get worse when you turn the wheel the left but when returned back to center it stops or is quitter and less vibration. when turning to the right it does not do it at all and will sometimes it does. I have taken it to the dealer 3 times now first time they said oh it just wind noise. second time they said we found the noise but don't know what the problem is. 3-time service manager rode with me, and he pointed out the sound and I said yes that sound. They then replaced both front wheel bearings. and they told me on pick up that the noise was completely gone. 2 minutes after leaving the noise was still there and even louder. Toyota seems to not able to fix the problem. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressee knowing that it involves the suspension in the front end of the vehicle.

TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-15
- VIN: 4T1F11BK0RU
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: Tire size P 235/45 R 18 Factory installed on 2024 Toyota Camry, failed catastrophically at 3415 (+/- 5) miles. Vehicle was traveling eastbound on I-40 in Knoxville, TN, when the tread separated completely after bilateral failure of the sidewalls about 2" from the beads. Car stability and control were compromised, but fortunately, vehicle was pulled to the shoulder without incident. Tire warning light came on at some point before failure (exact time unknown). Tire replacement cost is $300. Wheel suffered some damage but has not been assessed for repair cost. Replacement cost is estimated as $500. Toyota dealer (Toyota Knoxville) inspected the tire and claimed it failed due to toad hazard. However, they are not tire experts, their inspection was casual, and they could not point to any specific damage from the supposed road hazard that would cause the catastrophic failure, and they have a conflict of interest in that they may be motivated to avoid warranty claims and sell new tires. The road-hazard scenario is implausible and unsupported by evidence. Th
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-02
- VIN: 4T1S31AK4RU
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The vehicle was bought on January 6, 2024. Less than three months after driving, it was raining that day. I opened the sun visor of the sunroof and saw that the sunroof was leaking. After careful inspection, I found that the hardware of the sunroof was defective. The dealer refused to repair it or replace it for me, saying that it was a normal vehicle. I am afraid that due to quality problems, the sunroof will be blown off by the wind when driving on the highway, or rain will leak into the car, which will cause serious safety hazards. I need them to replace me with a new car.
TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-26
- VIN: 4T1R11AK8RU
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: 215/55-17 Driving a brand new 2024 Toyota Camry with the OEM Bridgestone Tires on a smooth road at normal speed. Tire exploded and went flat. My safety and others were at risk but fortunately I was able to keep control of the car. Bridgestone is unwilling to honor the warranty

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-15
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Summary: rcta alert signal is to low. I can not hear it at all. I turned in a 2015 avalon, that system , i would say was at medium level, easily indentifiable as an alert warning signal. I assume that the change of mounting position from the shelf behind the back seat to the trunk or the warning device itself is the cause of the low volume.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-08
- VIN: 4T1G11AK3RU
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Camry. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 250.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-16
- VIN: 4T1KZ1AK2RU
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Only one incident almost caused an accident (there are a total of 5 different incidents that have happened however). I was pulling out of a parking lot into traffic. The light was green in the direction I was trying to travel, and there was traffic coming but they were far enough away that I could have safely turned into the lane and moved with traffic if the car would have accelerated as was expected. Instead, the collision system deemed that there was an impending collision about to happen and would not allow me to accelerate. On coming traffic had to swerve to avoid hitting me, which thankfully there was no car in the second lane and they were safely able to avoid hitting me. The car was taken to the dealer and the form that is included was supplied to the dealer and subsequently to Toyota engineers. After 4 weeks, the dealer returned the car because Toyota engineers stated that the PCS system is acting as intended, and there is nothing wrong with the system
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-08
- VIN: 4T1C11AK6RU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle during the day at unknown speeds, the instrument panel lights failed to operate as intended, making it difficult to view. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed to contact the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 300.
VISIBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-28
- VIN: 4T1G11AK5RU
- Components: VISIBILITY
- Summary: The rear windshield is blurry (has a ripple effect) when viewing from the rear view mirror, or directly at the window. At night the problem is compounded where the reflection from the headlights behind you appear as "ladder like" lines in your view in the pattern of the defroster lines. The glare and view both in the daylight and at night is completely distracting to the driver. The car was taken to the Toyota dealership where it was first believed to be a tint defect. The tint was removed and Toyota confirmed it was not the tint, but the actual rear glass was defective. They attempted to reapply the tint to be sure, but the problem still persists. They have not provided us with any options to replace the glass and have said that they were aware of complaints and that all 2024 Camry models are like this. Toyota has confirmed there is an issue with the window. We have a case # open with them, but they have not provided a solution. This is a dangerous safety issue. During the day, everything behind you appears "wavy". The glare especially at night is similar to someone driving behind you with their brights on then having to constantly readjust your eyes to focus forward.
STEERING,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-13
- VIN: 4T1K31AKXRU
- Components: STEERING,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: When using lane trace assist as part of the adaptive cruise control the vehicle will violently pull the steering wheel to the left or right out of the lane. This will occur even with vehicles in the lane it pulls to that are detected by the blind spot monitoring system. Brought to a Toyota dealership and they only verified 4 wheel alignment however this did not correct the issue.
STRUCTURE,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-29
- VIN: 4T1G11BK3RU
- Components: STRUCTURE,ENGINE
- Summary: There is a vibration sound that occurs when the brake is pressed or depressed. When driving the sound is not present. I brought it to the Smithtown Toyota dealership and they couldn’t find anything and said they heard nothing in the video I sent. After countless hours troubleshooting I traced the sound to the driver well area by the brake and gas pedal. The sound and vibration seems to be transferring from the engine area.
TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-04
- VIN: 4T1T11AK0RU
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: The contact owns 2024 Toyota Camry equipped with Bridgestone Tires, Lire Line: Turanza EL440, Tire Size: 235/45/R18, DOT Number: 7XFU431JB2. Upgrading from a 2010 V6 XLE to a 2023 V6 XSE is a noticeable improvement, with a bump in horsepower from 270 to 301. The XSE trim is impressively appointed and well-built, making it a sedan that inspires confidence on the road and turns heads. With a sport-tuned suspension, the car remains stable around tight turns with minimal body roll. The 8th generation Camry boasts timeless aesthetics and reliability. Toyota's conservative approach to technology ensures well-thought-out features and increased longevity. The V6 with direct and port injection is a home run for efficiency, power, and engine health. You can't go wrong with this automobile.

Ok ok, this car is stunning! The rims are spectacular and she is a beast. Although it's a 4 cyl, she moves. The only two things I wish it had are a sunroof and push-start. Oh, and a way to cast my screen when the car is parked. Everything else is perfect.

I recently purchased the top-of-the-line loaded 2023 Camry XSE AWD and so far, it's been good. Although, I find it a little underpowered for my taste, especially in heavy Dallas traffic where impatient drivers are always in a mad rush. It can be quite a task, especially with a Kenworth coming and someone 3 inches off your bumper. However, I must admit that I have a soft spot for my 1970 Nova SS with a 350ci pushing 355hp on dyno (new crate motor) Mickey Thompsons & Centerlines. It has never left me stranded and my last trip was 850 miles from Illinois to Texas. Sure, it doesn't have air conditioned leather seats, but it has power to burn and gets me where I'm going. Not to mention, it looks so freaking cool while listening to KISS Alive! 1975, Zeppelin, Beatles and Pink Floyd.

I like everything about it. I wish I had GPRS👍

That's a fantastic choice for the price!

The gas mileage on the SE is great, but unfortunately, it doesn't come with the latest technology. To get the 9-inch infotainment display and other features, you'll need to upgrade to the more expensive V6 model. However, I personally prefer the look of the SE. While it doesn't have push-to-start, remote start, or built-in navigation, you can still connect your phone via USB cord and use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. It's worth noting that wireless CarPlay and Toyota Remote Connect are not available. I'm currently in discussions with my dealer to see if I can have these features added to my SE at no extra cost or if they can lower my monthly payments. Overall, I'm happy with my SE and its features, but I'm hoping to make some upgrades in the future.

The vehicle didn't seem to handle turns as well as some other comparable makes, and it was priced a bit higher. Additionally, the salespeople were quite pushy.

The gas mileage on this 2024 Toyota Camry LE is disappointing. While it should give 580 to 600 miles on the freeway, it only gives 480 miles. In comparison, my 2019 Camry LE gave me 580 miles on a full tank during the 5 years I owned it. Overall, this car is not a good purchase.

I was excited to test out the 2024 Toyota Camry, even opting for the XLE and bigger 6 cylinder. However, after comparing it to the 2021 Mercedes GLE 450 4 Matic, I decided to trade it in. The price difference wasn't significant, and the gas mileage wasn't much different either. The GLE 450 4 Matic offers over 350 HP and a true fun driving experience, while the Camry's 300 HP felt a bit slow. Although the Camry may be a good fit for the 75 years and older crowd, I prefer the ULTRA LUXURY of the Mercedes. Rather than settling for the king of BLAND DESIGNS, I recommend the mid-sized AWD Mercedes GLE 450 4 Matic.
