Common 2014 Volvo Xc60 problems
The 2014 Volvo XC60 has been reported to have various problems and defects, with engine and windows/windshield issues being the most common. Here are some of the specific problems reported by XC60 owners:
- Excessive Oil Consumption: This is the most common problem reported by XC60 owners, with an average cost to fix not available and an average mileage of 7,000 miles. This issue can be caused by several factors, including worn-out piston rings, cylinder walls, or valve seals. It can lead to significant engine damage if not addressed promptly.
- Sunroof Drain Blocked: This problem has been reported by XC60 owners with an average cost to fix not available and an average mileage of 82,000 miles. The sunroof drain can become blocked due to debris, leaves, or dirt, causing water to leak into the car's interior.
- Engine Failure: This issue has been reported by XC60 owners with an average cost to fix not available and an average mileage of 130,000 miles. Engine failure can be caused by various factors, including worn-out engine components, faulty sensors, or electrical issues.
- SatNav Loading Issue: This problem has been reported by XC60 owners, where a warning message about the camera loading appears when the SatNav is turned on. This issue is caused by a faulty mass movement sensor inside the alarm system and can be resolved by replacing the sensor.
- Poor Engine Performance: This issue has been reported by XC60 owners, where the performance levels of the XC60 have noticeably dropped, and there is an increase in black smoke coming from the exhaust. This problem is caused by a clogged diesel particulate filter (DPF) and can be resolved by going for a long drive or replacing the DPF sensor.
- Loose Seat Belt Anchor Cable: This problem has been reported by XC60 owners, where the plate that secures the seat belt has a cable that feels very loose or has completely broken. This issue can be resolved by replacing the seat belt fastener with a newly designed one.
- Power Steering Failure: This issue has been reported by XC60 owners, where there is an intermittent loss of the power steering function, making it much harder to take a turn. This problem is caused by an incorrectly assembled joint between the power steering high-pressure line and the steering gear, leading to fluid leaks and a loss of power steering.
- Fuel Leaks: This problem has been reported by XC60 owners, where there are puddles of fuel on the road where the car is parked. This issue is caused by a fuel rail that is incorrectly attached, leading to excess wear on the fuel lines and cracks and holes in the fuel lines.
- AC Failing: This issue has been reported by XC60 owners, where the AC is getting weaker and warmer. This problem is caused by a software malfunction on the engine fan control module and can be resolved by taking the car to a Volvo dealer for a software update.
These are some of the common problems reported by XC60 owners. It is essential to address these issues promptly to avoid further damage to the car and ensure the safety of the driver and passengers.

- VIN: YV4902DZ1E2
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: When I purchased my 2014 Volvo XC 60 I was told that it was in good overall condition and believe that after driving it for the vehicle in full and brought it back because it needed a current inspection. Within four days of taking it home after the inspection, the PCV valve went bad and I had a minor leak in the middle center top of the windshield that dripped in and left watermarks on my headliner. So again I called the dealer and explained to them what was going on. I took it back they corrected the PCV valve and said that they had my windshield Repaired and sealed by a professional windshield installer. Once again, I picked up my new car and I went home with it. The first rainstorm we got the inside of my car was flooded to the point where it shorted out my sunroof switch so now I can use my sunroof and there is mildew smell all through my car , floorboard on the driver side side gets soaked along with everything else from about the center all the way to the left and down the side of the windshield I feel that more than half of that windshield is not secured properly in there and sealed and could lead to serious injury to myself or possibly Someone else. I have reached out to them several times And after I picked it up when they stated everything was fixed and good to go, it was nothing but a nightmare my Car has a massive leaking windshield around more than 50% of it at least. I contacted the auto dealer once again and explained what was going on and how severe the situation had become. The service manager assured me that they work on the windshield was guaranteed and under warranty and he had a switch on hand to Replace my control switch for my sunroof and that he would contact their windshield guy and get him back there to make it right at no cost to me. In addition he said he would also supply me the loaner so I would not be without a car until mine was definitely fixed and ready, that was the last I heard from them and that was almost 3 weeks ago

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-07-06
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: YV4902DZ9E2
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: I AM COMPLAINING ABOUT UNINTENDED ACCELERATION RECENTLY EXPERIENCED WHILE PARKING MY CAR IN A PARKING LOT AND THE MANUFACTURING CANNOT TELL ME IF AND WHEN ANY RECALLS WERE UPDATED ON MY CAR PRIOR TO PURCHASE. THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING AFTER I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR AND STARTED TO BREAK INTO A STOP SO I COULD PARK THE CAR IN THE PARKING LOT. BECAUSE THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD IN FULL THROTTLE IT CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO THE BRICK BUILDING. THE HIGH VROOM NOISE STARTED AS SOON AS I TURNED INTO THE PARKING SPOT AND STARTED TO BREAK. THE AUTOMATIC BREAKING SYSTEM NEVER ENGAGED WHICH IN THIS MODEL SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED THE CRASH. THE BREAKS WERE OF NO USE SINCE THE HIGH SPEED IN LESS THAN 4 FEET OF THE PARKING SPOT AND WALL. THE CAR IS NEW WITH ONLY ABOUT 1200-1300 MILES AND I AM BEING TOLD THAT IT WAS MY FAULT WHEN I KNOW IT WAS ELECTRONIC FAILURE CONTROLLING THE ACCELERATION. THE DAY BEFORE IN A PARK POSITION ON A SUNNY DAY THE WIPERS WENT ON AUTOMATICALLY AND I HAD TROUBLE MAKING THEM STOP. WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT THE SIDE MIRRORS KEPT AUTOMATICALLY ON THEIR OWN MOVE TO A DOWNWARD POSITION MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND I HAD TO MANUALLY OVERRIDE IT SEVERAL TIMES TO BE IN THE RIGHT POSITION. EVEN WHEN I ADJUSTED THE SIDE MIRRORS THEY WOULD MOVE DOWNWARD WHILE I DROVE FORCING ME TO READJUST THE MIRRORS. IN ADDITION MY FRONT SEAT WOULD GET REPROGRAMMED WHEN I EXITED THE CAR AT LEAST EVERY OTHER TIME I WOULD EXIT. I WAS PLANNING ON TAKING THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND BUT THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED THAT WEEKEND. PLEASE INVESTIGATE SINCE THE PRIOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS COULD BE INDICATORS TO FUTURE PROBLEMS THOUGH THE PROBLEMS WERE INTERMITTENT - WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON WHEN NOT INTENDED, SIDE MIRRORS MOVING WHEN NOT INTENDED AND MY FRONT SEAT REPROGRAMMING WHEN NOT INTENDED. *TR
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM

- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 VOLVO XC60. I COULD FEEL THE CAR STOPPING. LUCKILY I WAS ON A LOCAL ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE VOLVO HAD RUN OUT OF GAS, BUT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS SHOWING THAT MY TANK WAS MORE THAN HALF WAY FULL. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE CAR, AND THIS IS MY SECOND REPORT. THE CONFIRMATION NUMBER FROM MY PREVIOUS COMPLAINT WAS 10569092. *TR
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-03-05
- VIN: YV4902DZ7E2
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 VOLVO XC60, I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND STARTED TO FEEL A VIBRATION IN THE CAR. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND A WARNING CAME UP THAT I NEEDED TO EITHER SLOW DOWN OR DOWN SHIFT. I BEGAN TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT LANE AND THEN MY CAR STOPPED. AFTER RECEIVING A TOW TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM THAT CAUSED MY CAR TO NOT DISPLAY AN ACCURATE AMOUNT OF FUEL AND I WAS OUT OF GAS. THEY UPGRADED MY SOFTWARE AND IT FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT IT WAS NOT A MANDATORY UPGRADE AND WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF IT UNTIL THE PROBLEM. *TR
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-08-27
- VIN: YV4952DL5E2
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY
- Summary: THE VOLUME LEVEL OF THE LANE CHANGE WARNING SIGNAL IS EXTREMELY SOFT AND LARGELY UNDETECTABLE WITH BACKGROUND ROAD NOISES. THIS PRESENTS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DRIVER IS NOT ALERTED TO INADVERTENT LANE CHANGES AS HE/SHE SHOULD BE. I CAME PRETTY CLOSE TO HAVING AN ACCIDENT SINCE I HAD EXPECTED THE ALERT AND IT DID NOT OCCUR AT A VOLUME LEVEL THAT I COULD HEAR. (I HAD A 2010 VOLVO XC60 WITH THIS SAME FEATURE BUT THE VOLUME LEVEL OF THE LANE CHANGE WARNING WAS MUCH LOUDER). THE VOLVO DEALER CONFIRMS THAT THE VOLUME LEVEL OF THE LANE CHANGE WARNING IS NOT USER NOR DEALER ADJUSTABLE; IT WILL REQUIRE A SOFTWARE UPGRADE BY VOLVO. I HAVE INFORMED VOLVO CUSTOMER SERVICE OF THIS ISSUE. THEY SAY THEY ARE AWARE, BUT COULD NOT PROVIDE ANY DATE FOR THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE TO FIX THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE. SOME URGENCY NEEDS TO BE PROVIDED IN FIXING THIS AS IT IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with this car that I recently bought after doing a lot of research. I was really drawn to the design, both inside and out, and I think it's a great value for what you get. The technology interface and Bluetooth work really well, and I find the controls to be pretty user-friendly. There are a couple of things that bother me a bit, like the slow acceleration and some comfort issues, especially since I'm quite tall and my leg sometimes rests against the middle console. But overall, I'm really happy with my purchase and haven't had any mechanical issues so far. Thanks for listening!

I love this car! It's my favorite among the 5 Volvos I own. The ride is smooth and the turbo provides a nice pick up. The car is very roomy and comfortable, and it looks great too! The safety features are amazing, especially the parking sensors, back up camera, BLIS, and crash collision feature. Recently, I almost had a crash in traffic, but the car's safety feature saved me from rear-ending the person in front of me. It was amazing! The only downsides are that the navigation doesn't include all streets on the map, there's no storage area for your phone, and sometimes connecting your phone with the cord lags when selecting music. Overall, it's an amazing car and I foresee myself driving it for many years to come! Volvo for life :)

I bought my wife her new 2013 XC60 about a month ago. I must say, I'm quite envious now. About six months ago, I had purchased myself a 2013 Acura RDX, but the Volvo seems to be a much better vehicle despite being more expensive.

I purchased my second Volvo used and it has been an absolute dream car. Despite the minor issue of poor power when charging my phone through the USB and lighter, the car has been running fantastically. I was initially apprehensive about buying a used Volvo, but my previous XC90 with over 250K miles has been running without any issues, and I am confident that the XC60 will do the same.

You've got yourself a very nice and reliable SUV!

I have had a disappointing experience with my second XC-60, despite having learned from my previous experience. Despite being less than 2 months old, I have had to take it to the shop 5 times already. While not as serious as my previous car, it has still been time-consuming for me. Unfortunately, I have not received any compensation from Volvo for the time and gas I have spent going to the shop repeatedly. Even my complaints to corporate Volvo have not yielded any results, as they simply repeat the misinformation spread by the service department. It is frustrating to have to take a car in for the same problem multiple times. Regrettably, I have decided not to purchase another Volvo. It is a shame, as it was a beautiful and enjoyable car to drive. I simply wish that the persistent problems could have been resolved.

We bought it a little more than two years ago, at 90,000 miles. It has 110,000 miles now. It is comfortable and nice to drive on road trips. However, it is a money siphon. We replaced the AC condenser when we bought it. Since then we have replaced cabin blower, and recently replaced AC condenser again. Looking at possibly having to replace the AC evaporator as well. Get random low battery warnings, even though the battery is new and the electrical systems check out OK. We will soon have spent more on repairs than the value of the car.

Hi there! It seems like you've been experiencing some issues. Let's work together to find a solution!
Delmer Hagenes 2024-02-01
I recently purchased a 2013 Volvo XC60 3.0L V6 Turbo and while I love the speed of the car, I have had a few issues with it. Despite having to take it to the dealer a few times, the alignment issue was resolved and the BLIS package has saved me a few times. The car's parking sensors have also been a great help. However, I have had some trouble with the audio system and the rotors, which have had to be replaced twice already. Additionally, the car's AWD system is not the best, with its 60(front)/40(back) split. The car is also quite rough to ride in, so it may not be the best option for those with back issues. Overall, I still appreciate the car's stability at high speeds and its cheetah-like acceleration. The LED headlights with the active bending feature have also been helpful when driving at night through passes. As someone who lives in an area with a lot of snow and ice, I was hoping for a more reliable AWD vehicle, but the Volvo XC60 has its pros and cons.I usually get around 17-18 mpg in the city and 19-20 mpg on the highway, although I must admit I tend to have a heavy foot. While I can tolerate most of the car's issues, the frequent need to replace the rotors is a major frustration for me. Given all that I know now, I would have to say that I probably wouldn't buy this car again. The cost of replacing the rotors is simply too high, not to mention the time it takes - the dealership took 5 days to replace them last time. Unless you enjoy dealing with back pain and have money to burn, I would recommend looking elsewhere. Personally, I think I would opt for a V6 Subaru Outback next time!
