2006 Volvo V70 problems
The Volvo V70 is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars from 1996 to 2016 across three generations. The name V70 combines the letter V, standing for versatility, and 70, denoting relative platform size (i.e., a V70 is larger than a V40, but smaller than a V90).
The first generation (1996–2000) debuted in November 1996. It was based on the P80 platform and was available with front and all-wheel drive (AWD), the latter marketed as the V70 AWD. In September 1997, a crossover version called the V70 XC or V70 Cross Country was introduced. The sedan model was called Volvo S70.
The second generation (2000–2007) debuted in spring 2000. It was based on the P2 platform and, as with its predecessor, was also offered as an all-wheel drive variant marketed as the V70 AWD and as a crossover version initially called V70 XC. For the 2003 model year, the crossover was renamed to XC70. The sedan model was called Volvo S60.
The third generation (2007–2016) debuted in February 2007. It was based on the P3 platform and marketed as the V70 and the XC70. Production of the V70 ended on 25 April 2016, the XC70 continued until 13 May 2016. The sedan model was called Volvo S80.

Common 2006 Volvo V70 problems
The Volvo V70 2006 is known for several common problems that owners have reported over the years. One of the most significant issues is related to the front suspension, which can suffer from wear and tear, leading to problems with the suspension components. This can result in a less comfortable ride and potential safety issues, so it's essential to have the suspension checked regularly and replaced as necessary.
The diesel engines in the Volvo V70 2006 can also suffer from problems with the fuel injection system. If the engine is reluctant to start or produces lots of black smoke when it does start, it's likely that there is a problem with the fuel injection system. This can be a costly repair, so it's essential to address this issue promptly to avoid further damage to the engine.
The ABS module in the Volvo V70 2006 can also be a problematic component. If the ABS light comes on or the speedometer stops working, it's likely that the ABS module is malfunctioning. Replacing the ABS module can be expensive, so it's essential to have this issue addressed promptly to avoid further damage to the vehicle
The Volvo V70 2006 can also suffer from problems with the door locks. If one or more of the door locks stop working, it's likely that the actuator inside the latch area has failed. Replacing the actuator can be a complex and time-consuming process, so it's essential to have this issue addressed promptly to avoid further damage to the vehicle
Finally, the Volvo V70 2006 can suffer from problems with the control arm bushings. If the steering wheel or front wheels wobble when going over bumps, it's likely that the control arm bushings have worn out. Replacing the control arm bushings can be a complex and time-consuming process, so it's essential to have this issue addressed promptly to avoid further damage to the vehicle
In summary, the Volvo V70 2006 is known for several common problems, including front suspension issues, exhaust heat shield problems, fuel injection system problems, ABS module issues, door lock issues, and control arm bushing issues. Regular maintenance and prompt repairs can help to avoid further damage to the vehicle and ensure a safe and comfortable driving experience.
What is the common problem with Volvo V70?
The top engine mount is known for failing on the V70. When you are taking off, or changing gear you may hear a loud knocking noise. Another symptom of the top engine mount failing is when you open the bonnet, have someone rev the engine for you and if it shakes excessively then this is the cause.
What is the best year of Volvo V70 to buy?
Going back to the 2000-2007 era still makes sense. This V70 still looks great and can have kiddie- friendly rear seats in the boot, but mostly it's a proper load-lugger, with its posh carpeted cargo bay. Note that it got something of a revamp in 2004.
What is the life expectancy of a Volvo V70?
That being said, Volvo Cars is among the top brands when it comes to longevity. Among the factors mentioned above, regular maintenance and driving style can make a huge difference. Overall, expect to see your Volvo vehicle last for over 200,000 miles if you give it proper care each year.
How many miles is a Volvo V70 good for?
I have an 850 turbo with 340,000 miles and my V70 low pressure turbo just turned over 310,000. Neither of these cars has ever had a major component repair. Just Normal wear and tear maintenance... Brakes, Shocks, Timing belts etc.

Called in January and they still didn’t have them and after asking I was put on a list and told they would contact me. I checked back in August 2021 and was told I was still on the list. I have not been contacted by the dealership since that time and my recall is still not repaired. The nearest dealership is in the next state 2.5 hours away. I just want this completed as I’ve been potentially driving a dangerous (to me) vehicle for over 2 years now.

WIND SCREEN WASHER LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I TRIED TO START ENGINE, CHECKED AND FOUND DAMAGE -WAS ONE OF THE SENSORS WHICH WAS DAMAGED - FLUID BOTTLE WAS OK. SOME MINOR WIRES WERE STILL ATTACHED. THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AND CAUSED AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION. THERE WAS ALWAYS A SLIGHT ODOR IN HOT WEATHER OR WHEN ON A LONG RUN- WAS THE SOY BASED POLYMERS VOLVO USED WITHOUT ANY "ODOR INHIBITORS", THE LOOMS COVERINGS DO BIODEGRADE QUICKER IN HOT WEATHER EXPOSURE WITHOUT AN INHIBITOR AND DISINTEGRATE LEAVING THE LOOM TO OPEN UP AND BE EXPOSED TO DAMAGE! FORTUNATELY THE SEPARATION HAPPENED AT LOW SPEED, BUT IF THE CAR HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT NORMAL ROAD OR HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE FAILURE WOULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. NONE OF THE PARTS HAD ANY PRIOR DAMAGE, ALL WERE ORIGINAL TO THE CAR, AND THE MECHANICS COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE BOLTS WORKED LOOSE. VOLVO USA HAD NO INTEREST IN INVESTIGATING OR UNDERSTANDING THIS FAILURE, WHICH IS REMARKABLE GIVEN ITS NATURE AND POTENTIAL FOR CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT. NOR WERE THEY WILLING TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OR RELATED DAMAGE. I RECOVERED AND HAVE POSSESSION OF THE BALL JOINT, KNUCKLE AND BOLTS, AS WELL AS PHOTOS DETAILING THE FAILURE AND DAMAGE (INCLUDING ROAD SKID MARKS FROM THE DRAGGING WHEEL), AND RECEIPTS FOR THE REPAIR WHICH TOTALED OVER $1,000 EXCLUDING BODY DAMAGE.

STRUCTURE,LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-03-08
- VIN: YV1SW592762
- Components: STRUCTURE,LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
- Summary: JUST GOT OFF WORK AND I WAS ON MY WAY TO PICK UP MY CHILDREN FROM THEIR RESPECTIVE SCHOOLS/DAYCARE. THERE WAS A NINE WHEELER MOVING VERY SLOWLY IN FRONT OF ME SO THE CAR IN MY REAR DECIDED TO OVERTAKE ME TO HIS LEFT AND AS SOON AS HE DID THAT MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR JUST FLUNG OPEN BY ITSELF. THE KNOB ON THE DOOR WAS STILL DOWN(IN LOCK POSITION). I WAS SO TERRIFIED BECAUSE IT FELT LIKE SOMETHING DISENGAGED IN MY CAR AND THE WHOLE DRIVER SIDE DOOR JUST CAME LOOSE. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO CATCH IT RIGHT AWAY OR ELSE IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL CAUSE SPEED LIMIT WAS 45MPH AND FOLKS WERE GOING 50 OR MORE MPH. BEFORE DRIVING MY CAR THAT DAY, I LOCKED ALL MY DOORS FROM THE INSIDE SO I WAS VERY BAFFLED THAT A DOOR CAN OPEN ITSELF( WITH THE KNOB IN A LOCK POSITION) . I FEEL LIKE THE FORCE OF THE CAR THAT OVERTOOK ME DID SOMETHING TO DISENGAGE MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES COMING OUT FROM THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. BUT I AM STILL NOT SATISFIED! WHAT IF MY KIDS WERE INSIDE THE CAR AND THERE DOOR FLUNG OPEN? I CALLED THE CUSTOMER CARE CONSULTANT FOR THE MAKER OF MY CAR BUT THE LADY I SPOKE WITH WAS SO RUDE BEYOND BELIEF. PLEASE HELP!!! I HAVE DEALT WITH A LOT OF CARS AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SOMETHING LIKE THAT IN MY WHOLE LIKE. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING ABOUT CARS; WHATEVER HAPPENS TO A CAR WHILE DRIVING IT EVERYDAY DOES NOT ALWAYS SHOW UP ONCE IT GETS TO THE DEALERSHIP. HOPEFULLY MY ORDEAL WILL NOT BE IN VAIN! WHEN THIS OCCURRED MY DRIVER SIDE GLASS WAS ROLLED DOWN A LITTLE BIT. *TR

SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2006-10-26
- VIN: YV1SW640762
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: FRONT SEAT BELTS ON VEHICLE HAVE PROBLEMS. SINCE PURCHASE, BOTH FRONT (DRIVER & PASSENGER) SEATBELTS ARE OVERLY STICKY, AND OFTEN CANNOT BE PULLED OUT OF HARNESS WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED, IN ORDER TO PUT SEATBELTS ON. THIS IS PARTICULARLY TRUE ON EVEN THE SLIGHTEST GRADE. IN OTHER WORDS UNLESS VEHICLE IS PARKED ON A TOTALLY FLAT SURFACE (RARE ON ACTUAL STREETS) SEATBELTS WILL OFTEN STAY RETRACTED OR ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO EXTRACT. I OFTEN HAVE TO DRIVE TO A FLATTER LOCATION IN ORDER TO PUT MY SEATBELT ON. (DRIVE WITHOUT SEATBELTS IN ORDER TO GET TO A PLACE WHERE BELTS CAN BE PUT ON.) ONCE ON, THE SEATBELTS LOCK UP AND PIN DRIVER AND/OR PASSENGER TO THE SEAT WITH EVEN THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT, E.G. TO ADJUST RADIO. (I KNOW THIS IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN WITH HARD BRAKING, ETC, BUT IT IS HAPPENING WITH THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENTS.) I HAVE REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALER ON 4 OCCASIONS, AND EACH TIME HAVE BEEN TOLD THE PROBLEM IS "NORMAL" FOR THE V70 AND THE S60. IN OTHER WORDS THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW. OTHER VOLVOS AREN'T LIKE THIS. MY WIFE HAS AN 2007 XC90 AND THE SEATBELTS DO NOT BEHAVE AS ABOVE. AS IS, THE SEATBELT DESIGN ON MY CAR COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENTS OR FATALITIES, AS PEOPLE MAY CHOOSE TO NOT WEAR THEM, OR MAY SIMPLY NOT BE ABLE TO PUT THE BELTS ON WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED, BEFORE DRIVING. *TR

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-01-13
- Fire: 1
- VIN: YV1SW612462
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I WANTED TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION AN INCIDENT REGARDING A CAR FIRE, AND RESULTING TOTAL LOSS OF MY LEASED 2006 VOLVO V70. I LEASED THE CAR ON JANUARY 20, 2006. ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON, JANUARY 13, 2007, I WAS DRIVING WITH MY TWO YOUNG GRANDSONS. WE WERE JUST STARTING TO HEAD SOUTH ON THE CHARTER OAK BRIDGE WHEN I LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO COAST THE CAR TO A STOP ON THE EAST HARTFORD, CT SIDE OF THE BRIDGE. ONE OF MY GRANDSONS SHOUTED "I SEE SMOKE" AND SURE ENOUGH SMOKE WAS BILLOWING OUT FROM THE FRONT END OF THE CAR. I TOLD THE BOYS, WHO WERE BOTH IN THE BACK SEAT, THAT WE HAD TO GET OUT NOW. I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS ROLLING BACKWARDS AND I PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THE CAR STOPPED. WE ALL GOT OUT AND STARTED WALKING AWAY FROM THE CAR, WHICH NOW HAD HEAVY BLACK SMOKE COMING OUT OF IT AND FLAMES SHOOTING UP FROM THE FRONT END. A MAN STOPPED AND TOLD US TO GET FURTHER AWAY FROM THE CAR, WHICH WE DID. 911 WAS CALLED AND IN A VERY SHORT TIME THE CONNECTICUT STATE POLICE AND EAST HARTFORD FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE ON THE SCENE. THE CAR WAS LEASED NEW AND IT HAD UNDER 14,000 MILES ON IT. I HAD NO PRIOR PROBLEMS WITH IT. THE ONLY SERVICE ON THE VEHICLE WAS THE REGULAR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AT 7,500 MILES PERFORMED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE NEXT SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE WOULD HAVE BEEN AT 15,000 MILES. MY INSURANCE COMPANY ADVISED IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS, AND ALSO ADVISED THAT THEIR "CAUSE AND ORIGIN SPECIALIST" ADVISED THEM THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A SHORT-OUT IN THE POWER MODULATOR. I WOULDN'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE, AND I JUST WANTED YOU TO BE AWARE OF THIS. WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO WALK AWAY FROM THAT FIRE BUT OTHERS MIGHT NOT. *NM

Positive 2006 Volvo V70 car reviews

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with Volvos. I've owned quite a few in my time, but I have to say that this one is my absolute favorite. Not only does it have all the features you'd expect from a Volvo wagon, but it's also a blast to drive!
-
Add BSR softloader, IPD sway bars and springs, aftercat and for about 2500 you have a totally different 'animal', capable of taking on an M3 or SRT8...
-
It sounds like you have some concerns about the car. While it may not have all the comfort features and storage spaces you're looking for, it still has a lot to offer. The minor rattle from the dash vent is something to keep in mind, but overall it's a solid choice. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
-
It's unbeatable! It took me a while to find the manual transmission I wanted, but it was definitely worth the wait. I have a big dog and love to have some fun while driving her around, and the Volvo simply wins by default!
-
We bought our red stick shift V70 last summer, and we're thrilled with it. If you're looking for a 7 passenger vehicle (we got the rear rumble seat) without having to drive a huge SUV or minivan, this is the perfect choice. It's not tremendously sporty, but it has adequate pickup and corners well. It's also incredibly comfortable for long drives. While it's true that service and parts can be expensive, it's worth it for the quality of the car.

I recently purchased a pre-owned vehicle to replace my XC90 which had died. I found a low mileage example that was super clean. Although I needed the extra room, I encountered some minor issues during the two months of ownership. I drove 6000 miles in those two months and experienced a dash and VIN rattle. The ride was incredibly rough for a 'luxury' wagon. I decided to trade it in for a 4Runner, which has a smoother ride. Unfortunately, after only two months, I had to give up and accept the depreciation. On average, I drive 35,000 miles per year.

I bought this car used in March. The fuel economy is not too bad, comparable to my '97 Honda Accord. The interior comfort could be better, but the performance is good. I might consider buying a used '08 next year if it has a more comfortable interior. The car comes with a navigation system, but I'm not a fan of it as it gets on my nerves. The third row seat is also not very useful.

The seats are very comfortable, but unfortunately the ride can be rough and the inside cabin rattles. I have had some issues with the car and it has spent almost two months in the shop since I've owned it. However, I must say that the seats are fantastic. The customer service at the headquarters could use some improvement, as they have not followed up on my complaints. Despite these issues, I have a love-hate relationship with this car. If the pieces were put together more meticulously, it could be one of the best cars I've driven. While I wouldn't own another Volvo due to my experiences with the company and dealer, I would definitely recommend the seats.

This is a solid, quality and well-appointed car that is comfortable to drive and has great capacity, making it a steady family hauler. However, it is important to note that the real-world fuel economy is far worse than claimed by Volvo. If you are concerned about emissions and fuel economy, it may be worth considering other options. Overall, while I enjoyed driving this car, I would not purchase it again due to its fuel consumption.
