2022 Toyota Rav4 prime problems
The Toyota RAV4 (Japanese: トヨタ・RAV4, Hepburn: Toyota Ravufō) is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota. It is known for starting the wave of compact crossovers.
It made its debut in Japan and Europe in 1994, and in North America in 1995, being launched in January 1996. The vehicle was designed for consumers wanting a vehicle that had most of the benefits of SUVs, such as increased cargo room, higher visibility, and the option of full-time four-wheel drive, along with the manoeuvrability and fuel economy of a compact car. The vehicle's name is an abbreviation of "Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel drive", or "Robust Accurate Vehicle with 4-wheel drive", although not all models come equipped with the four-wheel drive system.
For the third-generation model, Toyota offered both short- and long-wheelbase versions of the RAV4. Short-wheelbase versions were sold in Japan and Europe; long-wheelbase versions in Australia and North America. Toyota of Japan also sold the longer-wheelbase version as the Toyota Vanguard (Japanese: トヨタ・ヴァンガード, Hepburn: Toyota Vangādo) at Toyopet Store dealership chain from 2005 through 2016. RAV4 for the Japanese market were sold at two different Toyota dealership chains, Corolla Store and Netz.
In 2019, the RAV4 was the best-selling SUV of any type in the world, and the fourth best-selling passenger car overall. North America is the largest market, with 535,000 units sold in 2019, followed by Europe (133,000) and China (127,000). By February 2020, a total of 10 million RAV4s had been sold globally.

Common 2022 Toyota Rav4 prime problems
The Toyota RAV4 Prime is a popular hybrid SUV, but like any vehicle, it has its fair share of issues. One of the most common problems with the 2022 RAV4 Prime is the fuel tank capacity issue. Many owners have reported that the fuel tank only accepts 10-11 gallons of fuel, instead of the advertised 14.5 gallons. This can significantly reduce the vehicle's range, causing inconvenience and frustration for drivers.
Another issue that has been reported by several RAV4 Prime owners is the troublesome service brakes. Some drivers have experienced a delay in the service brakes after going over a pothole or bad road conditions. Instead of engaging immediately, the service brakes stop working for a second, causing the car to lurch forward and feel like it's surging. This can be a significant safety issue, especially in heavy traffic or at high speeds. Unfortunately, there have been no recalls or service bulletins issued for this particular issue.
In addition to these common problems, the 2022 RAV4 Prime has received various uncategorized complaints via the NHTSA website. These include issues with the infotainment display not working correctly and the sunroof shattering. While these complaints are rare, they can still be a cause for concern for potential buyers.
When it comes to the most reliable Toyota RAV4 Prime year, the 2021 model is not one of them. According to CarComplaints.com, the 2021 RAV4 Prime has received 61 complaints and three recalls so far, making it one of the Toyota RAV4 Prime years to avoid.
In conclusion, while the Toyota RAV4 Prime is a reliable and popular hybrid SUV, it does have some common issues that potential buyers should be aware of. The fuel tank capacity issue and troublesome service brakes are two of the most significant problems reported by 2022 RAV4 Prime owners. Additionally, the 2021 model is not one of the most reliable years, with 61 complaints and three recalls so far. As with any vehicle purchase, it's essential to do your research and be aware of any potential issues before making a decision.

- Summary: I was slowly pulling (front end forward) into a parking space at a local retail store. Parking spots are perpendicular to building. There is a space about the width of a sidewalk that runs along the front of the building. As I was coming to a complete stop, the car suddenly accelerated on its own, crashed into the building and then stopped. The airbag did not deploy. The car is available for inspection. Both Toyota and Farmers Insurance have said they will pull data from the event logs. The unintended acceleration malfunction put me and others at severe risk. The storefront has a concrete and glass front which was damaged from the impact. If an employee or shopper had been in the area of the crash, they could have been severely injured. I suffered a contusion of the sternum and stiff neck and shoulders. The vehicle's event data has not yet been pulled and evaluated. There were no advance warning signals.

- Summary: On Friday 4/26/24 at about 8 PM, I pulled vehicle into garage and suddenly was aware that vehicle was crashing into shelving against the garage wall in front of its usual stopping place. I recall application of brakes and believe that I put into reverse in order to stop progression/acceleration. After it stopped, I was able to get out of the vehicle and describe the incident to my husband who came out from the house, having heard the crash. The hood and front parts of the car were damaged and it is currently in the collision shop. The shelving unit was destroyed. I am concerned that an unintended acceleration took place and do not know the mechanism.

- Summary: Vehicle does not stop if one tire is going over a man hole cover, divit in the road, bump etc. It also skids forward when this happens and almost like jumps (as if anti-lock brakes where let loose and then pressed again) even if I am braking. This has been happening since the day I bought the car brand new off the lot. The traction control light also goes off. If I am going down a hill while this happens the car can jump forward multiple feet. This is a safety concern even if it is part of the hybrid system. Ive read that braking control is still available when this happens with a hybrid however, I lose braking power for a a second or two. Aka don't try to stop in Boston if there is any type of not-flat area of the road.. like a small bump or the car might JUMP forward and not stop while braking.

- Summary: Remote Start Option, has been disabled by Dealer, reportedly in January of 2023. Car was purchased 3/10/23 from dealer and feature was working via a Remote Subscription App which was not Renewed on 9/23. As this App requires Internet Service and Cell Phone Coverage to Function, it was not reliable as Service is not available in rural areas. Also, the Owner Manuals do not describe that a Cell Phone App is required to Remote Start a car that is covered in Ice. During winter operation this feature may be required to warm the car to allow the doors and Electric Locks to operate during Ice Storms. Dealer requested to reinstate original Remote option and advised that a separate Remote costing $800.00 would be necessary. Dealer could not replicate the function as they have Wi-Fi, other than to confirm that the "App annual fee" is not current. No warning lights, or messages indicate that the Remote Start Function in not functioning. The car also dose not contain a Mechanical Lock operated by a key. Thus, during inclement weather, the car is less reliable if the doors freeze shut, as the car can not be started Remotely to thaw the Ice.

It was sunny, 67 degrees with a breeze. This happened on Sunday so no confirmation or inspection has occurred. No warning lamps or messages appeared either before or after it exploded. I do know that Rav4 Prime's will display messages when things break including windows as I was rear-ended and the car was telling me the windows were broken. - Summary: This happened to me today but I have also recently heard about another report of the same (facebook rav4 prime web page) I started the car, it had sufficient battery so was in ‘EV’ mode. I placed it in reverse with my foot on the brake pedal. I waited a couple seconds for one reason or another and with my foot still firmly on the brake pedal it started moving in reverse. I pushed the brake pedal extraordinarily hard and the car stopped after a few feet. No incident precipitated from this but I’m keenly aware of the potential. At the moment I can’t reproduce it.

POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-05
- VIN: JTMFB3FV4ND
- Components: POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: The Toyota pre-collision braking system is too slow to release control of the throttle back to the driver. Multiple times it has made the car behave in an unexpected fashion in traffic. The most common scenario is when the driver is stopped and turning left onto a busy street. When a car passes in front of you and you try to accelerate after it passes, the pre-collision braking still thinks there's a car in front of you. Instead of acceleration your car just gently rolls into the street. The driver can't do anything in the moment to override it. The car behaves almost as if the engine has died and you're just slowly rolling into oncoming cross-traffic. I have owned the car for ~2 months, and both I and my wife have experienced multiple such incidents. Any of them could have caused an accident if the oncoming traffic weren't paying attention and braked. It's easily replicated but requires that the car passing in front of you be relatively close (~10 feet).

This car is a perfect fit for retired car enthusiasts with solar panels at home. I have owned this car since December 3rd, 2021, and have driven 20,000 miles in the first 12 months of ownership. Approximately 12,000 miles were on electricity generated by my solar panels. I live in Wisconsin and have taken a couple of road trips to Boston and Denver. On the interstate, I get 32 to 34 mpg. I am not a hyper-miler, but I still get great mileage. I installed a level 2 charger in my garage, and I get about 10 to 12 miles of charge per hour of charging. I am pretty diligent about keeping it plugged in between errands, so I rarely run out of juice around town. The heat pump isn't that good below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, and I run the gas engine at the start of trips when it's cold. I have the base version with the cold package, and the heated steering wheel is a nice touch. Below 20 degrees, the dash shows as low as 35 miles of range, but at about 68 degrees, it shows as much as 53 miles of range! In the warmer months, I can go 2 to 3 months without getting any gasoline if I don't do a road trip. I also own a 3500 sprinter currently, and I have a trailer hitch for a utility trailer for Home Depot runs. The versatility is great. I have not reset the dash mpg reading yet, and it shows 78.9 mpg since new. I now have 24,000 miles on it and have done a couple of shorter road trips to Chicago and Iowa. I would guess that now at 24,000 miles, today 14,000 miles have been electric. I can make the tires chirp with all the motors turned on, but traction control kicks in. On ramps are definitely not a problem with all 300 hp, and I can leave the traffic behind me easily. It's amazing to have an all-wheel-drive 4-passenger SUV that has great cargo capacity and can pull a 2500 lb trailer that gets nearly 80 MPG over 24,000 miles. I have had zero problems, and I'm just about ready to replace the OEM tires with some Michelins. I expect to get fewer MPG with new rubber, but perhaps better wet pavement performance.I've owned a variety of cars over the years, including a 2003 Mustang Cobra that was tweaked to 600 rwhp and dyno-tuned, a 911 Turbo Cabriolet, a BMW X5 with a V8 and sport package (pre-M version), and many others. My first sports car was a 1967 MK3 Triumph Spitfire with a race-prepped engine that was bulletproof. I'm a big fan of what Toyota hybrids can do with just a gallon of gas! I also want to mention that during my road trip back from Colorado, the temperature was 109 degrees Fahrenheit around Ft. Collins, but the air conditioner worked great. Similarly, during my road trip to Boston in February, I encountered whiteout conditions along Lake Erie with single-digit temperatures, but the heat was excellent. I never have range anxiety. As of 10/25/23, I'm coming up on two years of ownership and 35k mixed driving. My MPG readout (which has not been reset since mile zero) is showing 95.6 MPG. I put new Michelins on it at 26k, and the mileage improved noticeably. I haven't had any issues other than a minor recall. The car is comfortable and quiet, and the driving experience is very different from non-hybrid and base hybrid RAV4s due to the battery weight and thicker glass. Also, the quality is top-notch since it's made in Japan! I never have range anxiety.

I am thrilled with my new car! Despite gas prices being at 8/gallon, I don't even mind because this car is so peppy, powerful, spacious, and fuel-efficient. This is actually my fourth EV/Plugin EV after owning a 2011 Leaf, 2015 CMAX Energi, and 2017 Prius Prime. When I was purchasing the car, some dealers wanted anywhere from 4K to 10K over MSRP, and it was difficult to find one on the lot. Luckily, I was able to find mine after the previous purchaser backed out/did not qualify for the loan. The ride is fantastic - it's a peppy little car with a firm and comfortable ride, tons of power, excellent braking, and amazing EV range (42+ miles) and even better EV + gas range (600+ miles). I've even seen 60 miles of EV-only range in LA traffic a couple of times! The build quality is fine so far, and the creature comforts are amazing - heated/ventilated front seats, heated back seats, heated steering wheel, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist and forward collision mitigation, rain-sensing wipers, and 12-speaker JBL audio that is excellent. Did I mention it even has a spare tire? (unheard of nowadays, thank you Toyota). The only cons are the cost (for a RAV) and the dual-tone color for XSE (although it does stand out in the crowd). Overall, I've had the car for 6 months now and I absolutely love it. The performance has been unbelievable, and my wife even thinks her V8 Merc is slow compared to it. Plus, the car hasn't been to a gas station in months now. I even replaced my interior lights with LED (a common upgrade for 2021 RAVs).

I bought my Prime RAV4 used from Lodi Toyota in April 2021, thanks to Edmunds. Living in Arizona, I found that no Toyota dealer had any in stock. Instead of putting down a deposit to a California dealer, I decided that getting a used one with only 1800 miles was the way to go! I was thrilled to find that my first gas fill-up was in June, after driving 898 miles on just 12 gallons of gasoline, which equals 74+ MPG-E. This car is efficient, luxurious, and powerful (302 HP in hybrid mode)! I've owned several Toyota vehicles in the past, including a 1969 FJ40 Landcruiser, which was lots of fun. This RAV4 Prime is like a Lexus, but without the high price tag! I'm also looking forward to getting my $7,500 Federal Tax Credit. Our other vehicle is a 2020 Tesla Model 3 with Full Autopilot, which is great around town. This RAV4 Prime is the perfect second vehicle for road trips to Northern Arizona, California, and beyond!

Just got this SUV! It looks gorgeous. It drives smoothly and has great pickup, plus lots of safety features. I love the Apple CarPlay and WiFi inside the car. And the electric range is more than 42 miles!
-
Our RAV4 Prime is an absolute delight! It's super comfortable, quiet, and quick. Most of our drives are under 10 miles, so the electric-only feature gets us through the week with ease. However, we also take frequent drives to the Oregon coast and mountains, knowing we don't have to worry about range. Even with the gas engine running, we're still getting top-notch mileage for a small SUV. On winding mountain roads, the Prime corners solidly with no sway or drift, and inclines are a breeze. This powerful SUV can quickly accelerate from any speed and at any grade. The base Prime (SE) is well-equipped with a sunroof, very comfortable seats, and a good quality sound system (CarPlay is wonderful). Toyota's quality and engineering are obvious in the details and features. Finally, purchasing our Prime was incredibly easy and stress-free. Wilsonville Toyota took a $1000 deposit to order the exact Prime we wanted and kept us up to date on the build, shipment, and delivery. We paid the Edmunds recommended price with no haggling or pressure. We were notified a couple of days before the car's arrival and spent under 2 hours finalizing the purchase, receiving a helpful demonstration of the Prime's key and unique operation, and zipping soundlessly home! The Wilsonville Toyota team made this so convenient and professional at every stage. They even recommended a local company that will set our Prime up with a killer roof-top tent for all-season camping! We can't wait to explore The Cascades. See you there!

This vehicle is a quiet cruiser on the highway and is more of a utility vehicle than a sporty one, which is understandable even though it is an SE. The lifetime MPG with 13,000 miles is 49, with 80% highway using hybrid mode and 20% suburban and urban driving on battery only. The more battery you use, the higher the MPG climbs. Highway speeds of about 75-80 yield 36-38 MPG. Although the summer battery charge indicates 54 miles available, it is not realistic, so it's better to subtract 5-10% for realistic numbers. Similarly, the winter battery charge indicates 32 ish miles, which is also not realistic. The heat exchanger is loud, and if the gas engine has not run for some time (several days), expect a rough start (as if something is wrong with the engine) for about 3-5 seconds. When the time comes to get rid of it, I will likely look elsewhere for a vehicle.

I recently switched from a 2017 Fusion Energi to the 2021 RAV4 Prime SE and noticed a few differences in the technology. Unfortunately, the app is not very user-friendly and lacks a keypad entry. Additionally, I have experienced an issue where the doors lock and cannot be unlocked without using the manual key about once a week. On occasion, I have had to crawl into the car to unlock the doors. The car also makes a loud noise on cold starts and the seats do not have memory. However, the car does have great ground clearance and I have been getting an average of 65mpg with my 40-mile commute, thanks to charging at both home and work. The off-road capabilities are also decent. Overall, I have mixed feelings about the car, but I am enjoying some of its features.

Hi! I recently bought a Toyota Prius and have driven it for less than 1000 km. Unfortunately, I've started to experience some issues such as a tough switch between EV to HV and the gear kicking the car. Additionally, while in charging mode, there is a very loud and unpleasant sound of friction from the gear. Despite these issues, the car is fast and powerful.

I recently purchased the Rav4 Prime XSE and I am thoroughly impressed with its unique and powerful drive train. Although I encountered a few minor rattles, the vehicle is otherwise solid and provides an awesome sensation when accelerating silently in EV mode. While the vehicle may be difficult to get into due to its high seats and low roof, driving it is a real pleasure. However, I did notice that some common tech features are missing, such as proximity alerts when backing up or parking, and the Ap could be better thought-out. Overall, I believe that the Rav4 Prime XSE is a special vehicle that stands out in its category. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and powerful driving experience. The transition between electric and gas is seamless. However, after driving the Rav 4 Prime XSE for 6 months and 6000 miles, I cannot recommend this vehicle. While it may seem like a safe investment, it falls short on many fronts, including value, overall engineering, and fine-tuning. With so many capable electric vehicles on the market, buyers are better off considering more advanced and appropriate options. The interior tech is only mediocre, and the ergonomics are poor. Additionally, the interior only comes in black, which can be uncomfortable in California heat. Given the high gas prices and carbon concentrations in the atmosphere, it is difficult to justify buying a vehicle burdened with the weight and drag of an ICE engine. I believe that buyers should consider more advanced and capable clean vehicles.

I recently purchased the 2022 Rav4 prime and initially loved everything about it. Unfortunately, last week I encountered an issue with a check engine light. Upon taking it to the dealership, I discovered that some wires had been chewed off by mice. It turns out that the wires are soy-based, which is a material that mice are attracted to and tend to chew on. This has become a common problem and the repair cost is around $5000. While I am disappointed with this design flaw, I hope that Toyota will address this issue soon. In the meantime, I suggest considering other options before making a purchase. Thank you for your understanding.
