2014 Toyota Land cruiser problems

The Toyota Land Cruiser (Japanese: トヨタ・ランドクルーザー, Hepburn: Toyota Rando-Kurūzā) (also sometimes spelled as LandCruiser) is a series of four-wheel drive vehicles produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota. It is Toyota's longest running series of models. As of 2019, the sales of the Land Cruiser totalled more than 10 million units worldwide.
Production of the first generation of the Land Cruiser began in 1951. The Land Cruiser has been produced in convertible, hardtop, station wagon and cab chassis body styles. The Land Cruiser's reliability and longevity have led to huge popularity, especially in Australia, where it is the best-selling body-on-frame, four-wheel drive vehicle. Toyota also extensively tests the Land Cruiser in the Australian outback – considered to be one of the toughest operating environments in both temperature and terrain. In Japan, the Land Cruiser was once exclusive to Toyota Japanese dealerships called Toyota Store.
Since 1990, the smaller variation of the Land Cruiser has been marketed as the Land Cruiser Prado. Described as a 'light-duty' version of the Land Cruiser by Toyota, it features a different design compared to the full-size model and, up until 2023, it remains the only comfort-oriented Land Cruiser available with a short-wheelbase 3-door version.
As of 2023, the full-size Land Cruiser was available in many markets. Exceptions include the United States (since 2021), Canada (since 1996), Malaysia (which receives the Lexus LX instead), Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Brazil, and most of Europe. In Europe, the only countries where the full-size Land Cruiser is officially sold are Gibraltar, Moldova, Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. The Land Cruiser is hugely popular in the Middle East, Russia, and Australia, and also in Africa where it is used by farmers, the construction industry, non-governmental and humanitarian organizations, the United Nations, national armies (often the pickup version), and irregular armed groups who turn them into "technicals" by mounting machine guns in the rear. In August 2019, cumulative global sales of the Land Cruiser family surpassed 10 million units.

Common 2014 Toyota Land cruiser problems
The Toyota Land Cruiser is known for its durability and reliability, but like any vehicle, it can have common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the most common issues with the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser:
- Rough Shifting: Some owners have reported rough shifting with the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser, especially when switching between gears. This issue can affect both upshifting and downshifting and can occur at high RPMs as well as low speeds.
- Engine Stop: Some owners have reported sudden engine stops with the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser, which can be a significant safety concern. This issue can be caused by various factors, including electrical problems or issues with the engine itself.
- Oil Issues: The 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser's early engines were known to burn a bit of oil, especially in the early years of ownership. This issue can be a concern for owners who need to keep an eye on their engine's oil levels and replace it as necessary.
- Sudden Rough Shifting: Some owners have reported sudden rough shifting with the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser, which can be a significant safety concern. This issue can be caused by various factors, including transmission problems or issues with the engine itself.
- Rust: Rust is a common problem with the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser, especially in areas with saltwater and acidic conditions. This issue can be a concern for owners who need to keep an eye on their vehicle's rust levels and address any issues promptly to prevent further damage.
- Brake Pad Replacement: Brake pad replacements are a common problem in almost every vehicle, including the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser. The replacement frequency depends on the terrain, load, and driving styles. In Toyota Land Cruiser, brake pads need replacement multiple times in their lifespan.
- Timing Belt Replacement: Timing belts need to be replaced with time, and the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser is no exception. If the Land Cruiser is through a tough drive and the timing belt hasn't been changed in years, it's better to change it to avoid troubles.
- Clutch Issues: Clutch-related issues are common in manual variants of the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser. The clutch's purpose is to disconnect the wheel function from the engine, so it faces a lot of friction and has many moving parts. In Land Cruiser, it is typical for the clutch not to work correctly.
- Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Fault: Some models that use Ad Blue have a problem with the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve that prevents the Ad Blue NOx treatment system from working correctly. Vehicles affected by this recall are to be inspected by a Toyota dealer and have any parts found to be faulty replaced.
In conclusion, while the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser is known for its durability and reliability, it can still have common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include transfer case input shaft seal failure, rough shifting, engine stop, oil issues, sudden rough shifting, rust, brake pad replacement, timing belt replacement, clutch issues, and EGR valve fault. Owners should be aware of these issues and address them promptly to prevent further damage and ensure their vehicle's longevity.

After conducting extensive research and test driving various full-size SUVs, I ultimately decided to purchase a 2014 Land Cruiser. Although I initially considered a full-size Range Rover and also explored the Mercedes GL, I ultimately traded in my 2011 GL 450 for the Land Cruiser. As a parent of young children who often climb all over the seats in wet bathing suits and muddy shoes, I prioritized durability and reliability over the $110k price tag of the Range Rover. While the Range Rover boasts impressive features, I personally prefer the classic look of the Land Cruiser. In fact, I even considered purchasing a used 2012 Range Rover before ultimately deciding on the Land Cruiser.

Welcome back! I hope you had a great trip. I wanted to let you know that your car is really impressive! You managed to get 19.74 MPG driving at 75-80mph for 90% of the time, which is amazing. Even though the low fuel light came on and the electronic readout showed 19.4 when you stopped for fuel, you still had 6 gallons left and could have gone nearly 500 miles on a tank - WOW! I'm also impressed by how solid and safe your car is, weighing nearly 3 tons. It's definitely the vehicle I'd want to be in an accident in. Around town, you get around 14-15 MPG, which is still pretty good considering the weight of the car. I'm sure you're proud of your car, and you should be! Thanks for sharing your experience with me.

This is my second Land Cruiser and I am impressed thus far. My last one was a 2006 (last generation) and I was not happy with it, trading it in after less than a year. However, the 2011 model has improved in MANY areas. Handling, comfort, conveniences, and performance are all significantly upgraded in this generation of the LC.

I'm so excited to share my experience with the 2010 Land Cruiser! This is actually my second one, after trading in my 2008 Land Cruiser. One thing I love about this model is that it uses a Denco gas pedal, which is different from other Toyotas that had issues with their CTS gas pedals. The handling of this vehicle off the road is truly exceptional. If you have the chance, I highly recommend taking it for a test drive off the road to get the full experience. Thank you for considering the 2010 Land Cruiser!

Following up on my post from May of 2011, I wanted to share that this SUV has been performing flawlessly. Other than a few minor issues, the reliability has been outstanding. Although my heart would love to look at a newer LC, my head says no way. This is a durable and solid performer that begs you to keep it until it can take no more, which is likely many years from now. Ultimately, it is the finest vehicle I have ever owned, and since this is my 25th vehicle over the past 33 years, that is saying a lot. While it may not be cheap, in this case, you get what you are willing to pay for.

The Land Cruiser is a solid performer both on and off the road, with plenty of power and reliable braking. It would be great to have front console cup holder lighting for night time driving, as well as lit overhead spotlight buttons. I've been getting a combined 17.2 mpg in the city and on the highway using premium fuel. While the exterior sheet metal seems a little thin, the vehicle is still sturdy. I did experience a clunking noise from the rear when starting from a dead stop or coming to a stop, but after visiting my Toyota dealer, I found out that a (TSB) Technical Service Bulletin had been issued for this problem. The drive shaft was replaced under drivetrain warranty at no cost, and since then, I have had no further issues. Overall, I am very satisfied with the new Land Cruiser!

The current model of this vehicle does not meet our expectations in terms of personality, character, instrumentation design, and exterior styling. Additionally, its similarity to the Highlander model and its price point do not justify its purchase. We recommend waiting for the next redesign.
