The Toyota Land Cruiser (Japanese: トヨタ・ランドクルーザー, Hepburn: Toyota Rando-Kurūzā) (also sometimes spelled as LandCruiser) is a series of four-wheel drive vehicles produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota. Since 1990, the smaller variation of the Land Cruiser has been marketed as the Land Cruiser Prado. Described as a 'light-duty' version of the Land Cruiser by Toyota, it features a different design compared to the full-size model and, up until 2023, it remains the only comfort-oriented Land Cruiser available with a short-wheelbase 3-door version.

As of 2023, the full-size Land Cruiser was available in many markets. Exceptions include the United States (since 2021), Canada (since 1996), Malaysia (which receives the Lexus LX instead), Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Brazil, and most of Europe. In Europe, the only countries where the full-size Land Cruiser is officially sold are Gibraltar, Moldova, Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. The Land Cruiser is hugely popular in the Middle East, Russia, and Australia, and also in Africa where it is used by farmers, the construction industry, non-governmental and humanitarian organizations, the United Nations, national armies (often the pickup version), and irregular armed groups who turn them into "technicals" by mounting machine guns in the rear. ACCELERATION ISSUES EMERGED WITH MY 2000 MODEL TOYOTA-- [XXX] IN 2000, I BOUGHT A NEW TOYOTA LAND CRUISER.AT AROUND 45,000 MILES (STILL UNDER MANUFACTURER?S WARRANTY) OR AROUND THE END OF THE YEAR 2003, I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE ISSUES WITH MY LAND CRUISER NOT ACCELERATING?EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, AND I WAS STILL DRIVING. AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND WAITING FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES, I TURNED MY ENGINE BACK ON AND MY CRUISER WAS WORKING AGAIN. I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM CONSISTENTLY, BUT SPORADICALLY OVER THE NEXT 4 YEARS. I NEVER KNEW WHEN MY CAR WOULD STOP ACCELERATING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. NO MATTER HOW HARD I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR WOULD NOT ADVANCE FORWARD, EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY CRUISER TO THE CLOSEST TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. I DESCRIBED MY PROBLEM TO THE SERVICE ADVISOR, MR. BRIAN MURPHY, AND MY VEHICLE WAS ASSIGNED TO THE MASTER MECHANIC ROHAN TO EVALUATE. ROHAN KEPT MY VEHICLE FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS BEFORE BEING ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND AGREED IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. ROHAN EXPLAINED TO ME THAT WHEN I PRESS MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL, A SENSOR CONTROLS THE ACCELERATION FUNCTION, AND THAT MY SENSOR WAS BAD, AND HE HAD TO REPLACE IT.   • Summary: TRAVELING AT 65 MPH ON FREEWAY. WE WERE CLIPPED BY ANOTHER CAR ON OUR RIGHT FRONT BUMPER. OUR SUV SLID TO THE LEFT CROSSING 3 FREEWAY LANES AND WE HIT HEAD ON INTO THE CONCRETE FREEWAY DIVIDER. OUR SUV SLIDE DOWN THE FREEWAY ALONG THE DIVIDER AND MADE ONE COMPLETE ROLL, LANDING AGAIN ON OUT TIRES. THE FRONT DAMAGE TO THE CAR IS MASSIVE. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. IN ADDITION THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK. IT STAYED LOOSE DURING THE ACCIDENT. I HAVE EMAIL PICTURES OF THE DAMAGED SUV AND ALSO OF THE CONSOLE SHOWING NO AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED.

    I have owned several luxury cars such as Mercedes, Lexus, and Jaguar, but none of them have been as good as my Land Cruiser. It is built to last, rides smoothly, holds up well, and performs exceptionally. It is the only car that I have kept for more than three years, and why wouldn't I? It still looks and runs just as well as it did four years ago when it was new. I will definitely replace it with another Land Cruiser or a similar Lexus model.

    The original running gear is powered by a very strong 4.7L V-8 engine. Regular maintenance includes periodic replacements of plugs, shocks, TB/WP three times, 4X4 bearing packs, front stabilizer bars, Toyota 84 month battery, fuel injectors, valve cover gaskets, fuel injector kit, radiator T-hose (which was quite an experience), power steering pressure hose, number 8 coil, brake pads and calipers, muffler, and engine cam seals. I may have missed a few things, but the major costs were just two: brakes master cylinder module (OEM $1600) and steering rack assembly ($1200). If you take care of it, it will take care of you. It's a daily driver that can take you to a movie on Tuesday and serious 4-wheeling on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. You get the idea, right?

    Your rig has over 340k miles on it and it's still going strong! The only minor issues you've had were with the little light indicating you're in drive, the cable to raise the antenna, starter, rear door struts and alternator, but these only occurred after 250k miles. The rock crawling capabilities for a luxury SUV are unbelievable and your wife loves the luxury part. It's also great in snow and ice with the right tires. You've even managed to pack 8 people into it for a short off-road excursion! The only downside is the fuel economy, but this vehicle in diesel would be perfect. You also love its looks, even more than the current version, so that's definitely a plus. Although there was a design issue in the motor for the first half of 2000 that made repairs more difficult and costly, it's still a great rig!

    We've owned this car for over 8 years and it has never let us down. With 151k miles on the clock, my guess is it could go twice that and still drive like the day we brought it home. The only complaint my wife has is that she wishes the steering wheel was adjustable. I recommend putting the original equipment Michelin tires on it as they will go 60k+ miles.
