2020 Toyota Camry problems

The Toyota Camry (/ˈkæmri/; Japanese: トヨタ・カムリ Toyota Kamuri) is an automobile sold internationally by the Japanese auto manufacturer Toyota since 1982, spanning multiple generations. Originally compact in size (narrow-body), the Camry has grown since the 1990s to fit the mid-size classification (wide-body)—although the two widths co-existed in that decade. Since the release of the wide-bodied versions, Camry has been extolled by Toyota as the firm's second "world car" after the Corolla. As of 2022, the Camry is positioned above the Corolla and below the Avalon or Crown in several markets.
In Japan, Camry was once exclusive to Toyota Corolla Store retail dealerships. Narrow-body cars also spawned a rebadged sibling in Japan, the Toyota Vista (トヨタ・ビスタ)—also introduced in 1982 and sold at Toyota Vista Store locations. Diesel fuel versions have previously retailed at Toyota Diesel Store. The Vista Ardeo was a wagon version of the Vista V50.
Etymology
The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

Common 2020 Toyota Camry problems
The 2020 Toyota Camry has been known for several common problems that have been reported by its owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:
- Transmission Problems: Transmission issues have been reported in recent models of the Toyota Camry, including the 2020 version. These problems can manifest as shifting delays, stalling, grinding or jumping during low gear acceleration, shaking while in motion, a noticeable burning smell, or whistling sounds coming from under the hood. These issues can affect the car's performance and fuel efficiency, and they can be costly to repair.
- Brake Problems: Some owners have reported issues with the brakes, such as the brake pedal sinking all the way to the floor or becoming stiff, making it difficult to stop the car. Additionally, some owners have experienced shaking when applying the brakes, which can be a safety concern. If you suspect that your car has a brake issue, it's important not to continue driving it and to take it to a repair shop for a proper diagnosis.
- Door Lock Malfunctions: Some owners of the 2020 Toyota Camry have reported malfunctioning door locks, which can be a safety issue. The most common fix for this problem is to replace the door lock actuator, which is relatively inexpensive.
- AC and Heater Issues: Some owners have reported musty smells coming from the air conditioning vents, which can be caused by mold growth in the AC system. Additionally, some owners have experienced issues with the heater not blowing hot air. These problems can be fixed by replacing the affected component.
- Interior Accessories Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the interior accessories of their 2020 Toyota Camry, such as melting dashboards and faulty sun visors. These problems can be annoying but are easily fixed by replacing the affected parts.
- Braking System Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the braking system, such as brakes not responding well or the brake light coming on randomly. These issues can lead to collisions and should be addressed promptly.
It's important to note that the Toyota Camry has a strong reputation for reliability, safety, and fuel efficiency, which has helped it remain one of the top-selling vehicles in the US. However, like all cars, it can have issues, and it's important to be aware of these common problems before purchasing a 2020 Toyota Camry.

Dealer reported on Sept 20 no issue with battery and no idea what could be draining th battery. Told me I don’t drive it enough even though I just came back from a high mileage vacation and drove it for over 1 hour each way four days prior and two days before that. Told me I need to run for 30 min every other day even if it is just keep it idle in garage. Prior to this battery change I had no such issue letting it sit for days and not start. There seems to be an issue with this year of Camry that is going unaddressed by Toyota and needs a remedy other than drive your car more often as well as being told to buy a maintainer/charger to keep battery charged as told by the tech. This is a widespread problem that needs to be fixed or made right by the company especially when car is under warranty.

It started a small fire on the engine exhaust pipe as I hurried to a mechanic across the intersection. Luckily I was able to turn off the car and avoid damage. The repair required a new high-pressure fuel pump as well as a line that runs into the pump. I kept the original parts - the mechanics state that the replacement fuel line was different than the one removed from the vehicle in the shape of the line connector to the fuel pump. I was told by Toyota that my car was NOT under recall despite there being fuel pump recalls for similar vehicles.

I am told by the dealership that there is no remedy expected until 2026 for this vehicle. I cannot lose two years worth of income waiting for this solution. I had my car inspected at the dealership and was told that my sensor was not faulty and do not need a resolution. Is there any way that I can receive documentation from NHTSA showing that my vehicle is safe to rent out and has been inspected and cleared from Toyota? I appreciate your assistance in this matter.

AIR BAGS,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-20
- VIN: 4T1G11AK1LU
- Components: AIR BAGS,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: My car has been brought into the shop over two times due to a recall that has no yet been resolved and has no time frame as to when there will be available parts created to fix this issue. The passenger air bag is in for a recall as in case of anything, the air bag will not deploy correctly or at all. This is a major safety issue as it can cause the death of the person rising in the passenger seat. I do not feel safe driving in this car especially since my car is always a full house and it is used as a family vehicle where all 5 seats are being used at once. This is a recall that was later found on this car meaning that the car was built like that. Again, I do not feel safe as I have had family members die in a car accident before. I have asked the dealership multiple times to resolve this issue. On June 23rd 20024, I was almost in a car accident. All 5 seats were being used and we were almost hit by a car that was going over approximately 85mph. A life could have been taken if we would have been hit and the air bag would not have deployed at all or correctly. My car has been in the shop, Hanlees Hilltop Toyota since Monday June 24th. I was concerned about the airbag and again, they do not have any parts that have been created by TOYOTA manufacturer. I asked for a loaner car and they did not want to help nor provide me with one. I do not feel safe in this vehicle and the airbag not working should be considered high risk and this car should not be drivable due to this major high risk issue.

Your Camry XSE with the V6 sounds like a dream to drive! It handles precisely and inspires confidence, making long drives shorter and more comfortable. The V6 engine is a masterpiece of engineering, propelling the Camry to 60 in only 5.6 seconds. The exterior styling is sleek and sporty, yet still has that clean Camry look. Inside, the cockpit is ergonomic and stylish, with pretty upscale materials. The JBL sound system brings every voice and instrument out, even on old recordings via dsp and decompression. Toyota quality is everywhere, and you won't hear a single rattle. After test driving one, it's hard not to want to buy one. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your Camry after 1,540 miles and 2 weeks! If you're able to, I would highly recommend getting an XLE or XSE with the V6 - it's definitely worth it. I had a 2019 Camry XSE with the 4 cylinder before, but unfortunately, I had to take it to the shop 8 times for non-routine maintenance issues over the course of 8 months. However, I was lucky enough to find a grey with black leather 2020 XSE V6, and it's been a completely different experience. The car feels smoother, quieter, and more put together. I'm especially impressed with the power and sound of the V6 engine - I even shocked a 5.0 Mustang on the interstate! Although I still have some minor complaints, like the sensitive front and rear automatic emergency braking and the speakers that rattle, I can't help but smile every time I get in and drive. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend the Camry to others. The cooled seats work really well, as does the AC. The heated seats get toasty quickly, which is great. Although it lacks a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats, I rarely have people in my back seat. The trunk is adequate, but it could definitely be bigger. However, I prefer more passenger space over trunk space. The headlights are amazing, but the automatic high beams can be a bit too much and may flash people. The Adaptive Cruise Control is quick to respond, but it does tend to overreact when someone pulls in front of you. The 360 camera could be better in terms of resolution, but it does give you much more visibility than no cameras at all. Pairing them with the very sensitive parking sensors makes for a great team. The transmission is a bit sketchy sometimes, as it is not that smooth. I thought the recall would fix the issue, but it did not. It is easy to confuse it. However, it is quick to shift and quick to respond. Putting it in Sport mode improves the transmission. After 1,540 miles and 2 weeks, I am really happy with my Camry. If you can afford it, I highly recommend getting an XLE or XSE with the V6. You won’t regret it.

Toyota made this vehicle a real pleasure to drive. That was very important to me as I do a lot of cross country driving. My previous car, a Sonata Limited, had more features, but was tedious to drive due to constantly requiring small steering adjustments. The Camry, on the other hand, stays right where you want it and also gives a much smoother ride over bumpy roads...

I've been driving a Camry for years and I find it to be extremely dependable. The current one I'm driving has all the latest car features available, which I think makes driving safer.
-
I recently traded in my 2018 XSE 4 cylinder for a 2020 XSE v6, which was an offer I couldn't refuse. The new Camry is fully loaded with heated and cool seats, as well as a head's-up display, all for the great price of $31900. Unfortunately, I did experience a couple of issues with the car, such as the battery dying for no apparent reason and the radio randomly rebooting. However, I contacted roadside assistance, and they were able to get the car started. When I took it to the dealership, they couldn't find any issues. Despite these minor setbacks, I am still happy with my purchase, especially since this is my 5th Camry. In my experience, Camrys are reliable and low maintenance.

As a long-time Toyota owner, I had high expectations when I purchased my new 2020 LE Camry Hybrid. Unfortunately, I have experienced multiple computer-based issues since driving off the lot in September 2020, which have required multiple visits to the dealership. While one issue was resolved by disconnecting the feature, others remain unresolved. Additionally, I was disappointed to find that some features that were present in my previous cars, such as the auto-dimming HomeLink mirror, lighted sun-visor mirrors, and heated exterior mirrors, were missing and could not be added. The glove compartment design also caused some inconvenience, as everything falls out when it's open and the car moves. Despite these issues, I still appreciate the quality of Toyota cars and hope that these concerns can be addressed in the future. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I purchased a brand new Camry from Toyota in May 2020, but unfortunately, the battery stopped working completely in September of the same year. Despite my efforts to resolve the issue with Toyota, the dealership was unable to identify the cause of the problem, and the only explanation given was that it may have been struck by lightning. Despite there being no visible damage to my carport or other vehicles, Toyota was unable to provide any assistance and advised me to contact them directly. Although I have been unable to speak to anyone at Toyota, I remain confident that a solution will be found. While this experience has been frustrating, I am hopeful that Toyota will be able to resolve the issue and restore my confidence in their products. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

In July, I was involved in an automobile accident when a driver ran a stop sign and collided with the passenger door of my 2020 Camry XSE, causing over $10,000 in damages. I strongly believe that if the airbags had deployed, my right arm and shoulder would not have been injured as badly. Despite calling Toyota twice to express my concerns about the airbags not deploying, I have not received a call back. As a long-time Toyota customer, I am disappointed that their customer service seems to have declined. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Although I love my 2007 Camry, I was disappointed with the new models. The body sits too low to the ground and the engine is noisy. As a discerning customer, I expect a certain level of quality and comfort from my vehicle. Therefore, I have decided to explore other options in the market. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Congratulations on your new Toyota Camry XSE! I hope you're enjoying it so far. I understand that you have some concerns about certain features and trim packages. It's important to note that Toyota offers a wide range of options to suit different needs and budgets. However, I appreciate your feedback and will pass it along to the appropriate team. On a positive note, I'm glad to hear that you find the car to be stylish, comfortable, and safe. Thank you for choosing Toyota!
