The Daewoo Magnus is a mid-sized sedan developed and manufactured by Daewoo for model years 2000-2006 under a single generation, and marketed globably by GM Daewoo and other General Motors divisions, as well as GMDAT stake holder Suzuki. Developed under its internal Daewoo designation V200, the Magnus was marketed prominently in the United States as the Suzuki Verona.

The V200 is a successor to the Daewoo Leganza (model V100), used a larger chassis of its platform. Launched in 23 November, it was sold alongside the Leganza in Korea until the end of V100's production in 2002, when it also superseded it in export markets. The V200 itself was given an extensive facelift for 2006, which resulted in the model known as V250, or Daewoo Tosca in Korea. The V250 completely superseded all versions of the V200 during 2006.

The Evanda comes equipped with the Daewoo-developed XK6 inline-6 engine (DOHC 24V, 155 hp (116 kW) at 5800 rpm, 177 lb⋅ft (240 N⋅m) of torque at 4000 rpm – Canadian specification) or a Holden-built 2.0 L D-TEC inline-4 (DOHC 16V) carried over from the Leganza. ItalDesign of Italy was responsible for the styling and design of both the Leganza and Magnus. However, the upcoming V250 was styled in Korea by GM Daewoo.

Common 2006 Suzuki Verona problems

The Suzuki Verona, produced from 2004 to 2006, is known for several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are the main issues:

  • Sloppy Handling: The car's handling was described as unresponsive and less than ideal, which can make driving less enjoyable and potentially more challenging in certain situations.
  • Mediocre Crash-Test Scores: The Verona did not perform well in crash tests, which could be a concern for those prioritizing safety.
  • Heavy Wind Noise: Some owners reported high levels of wind noise during driving, which can be distracting and uncomfortable.
  • Low-Grade Interior Materials: The Verona's interior materials were criticized for being cheap and low-quality, which can affect the overall driving experience.
  • Lack of Side Curtain Airbags: The absence of side curtain airbags was noted as a shortcoming, which could be a safety concern for some buyers.
  • Engine Running Erratically: Some owners reported that the engine would run erratically when first started on cool mornings, which could indicate a problem with the engine management system.
  • Early Quality Problems: The Verona suffered from early quality problems, which likely contributed to its poor sales performance and discontinuation after the 2006 model year.
  • Undersized Engine: The Verona's engine was considered undersized, which could lead to poor performance and lower resale values compared to more established competitors.
  • PCM Software Update Available: 20 people have reported issues with the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) software, which could indicate a need for software updates or repairs.

These common problems with the Suzuki Verona should be considered when evaluating the car as a potential purchase. While the Verona has some positive aspects, such as a strong warranty and a long list of standard features, its weak engine performance, sloppy handling, and mediocre crash-test scores make it a less desirable choice for many buyers.

Negative 2006 Suzuki Verona car reviews

  1. Arden Denesik 2024-11-01

My 2005 Suzuki Verona has only 3,400 miles on it, but the 'air bag' light indicator came on while I was driving. I took it to the dealer where I bought it, but unfortunately, they were too busy to help me right away. I expressed my concern to the technician/mechanic about the potential consequences if something were to happen, but he assured me that nothing would occur. I asked him if he would compensate my children if something did happen, and requested to speak with his manager and the owner of the dealership. Unfortunately, they were not available at the time. I am still driving the car with the airbag indicator light on the dashboard, but I am hopeful that Suzuki and the dealer will take responsibility if anything does happen.

  2. Taylor Lowe 2024-10-29

The seats are quite uncomfortable, feeling as hard as a rock. The acceleration is very slow and the steering is quite sloppy, with serious under-steer. I rented this car for a few days and was very unimpressed. However, it is a Suzuki, which may explain some of the issues. Personally, I would choose a low-end Accord or Camry over this vehicle. It is worth noting that this car does not have side airbags. While it may not be the first choice for a knowledgeable car person, it may still be a good option for some. It is possible that the resale value of this car may be lower than other models in a couple of years, but this is difficult to predict.

  3. Davin Ledner 2024-10-28

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car. Over the past fifteen months, I've had a few issues with it, including a rear brake fluid leak that caused the brakes to go all the way to the floor. Now that I'm looking to get a different car, I've been told that the transmissions on my current car aren't very good, which has made it difficult to get a good trade-in value. I've also experienced some stalling and shifting issues while driving on the highway. Just wanted to share my experience with you!

  4. Chet Mertz 2024-09-25

Although my 2005 Verona was initially a fun car to drive and ran well, it unfortunately experienced a transmission issue that caused a decline in its performance. Despite a reprogramming, the car now frequently hesitates, has reduced horsepower, and poor gas mileage. Regrettably, Suzuki's customer service has been unhelpful, with long wait times and a lack of responsiveness. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this car as a reliable option.

  5. Tavares Schulist 2024-09-23

It would be even better if it offered better fuel economy and more speed.

Positive 2006 Suzuki Verona car reviews

  1. Norris King 2024-10-18

Initial mileage readings up to 11,000 miles were only 18-19 mpg. However, after 11,500 miles, mileage improved to present 23.8 mpg city driving

  2. Tony Osinski 2024-09-23

I researched the 2005 Suzuki Verona before purchasing it. Although some sites mentioned poor crash test results, I find the Verona to be a great car. The interior is excellent, with heated seats, a moon roof, a 6-speaker sound system with tape and CD capabilities, power driver's seat, and power windows and locks. What more could you ask for? The ride was a little stiff at first, but it has improved greatly and is now smooth and comfortable. While it may not respond quickly to sudden maneuvers, it does have smooth acceleration when you need to pick up speed to pass. Despite the poor side impact rating, I still love it!

  3. Titus Collins 2024-09-13

The car has some great features such as a roomy interior, power tilt-and-slide sunroof, heated seats, and heated power mirrors which are a must-have during Iowa winters! I also love the day/night mirror that removes headlight glare and the super sound system with a CD/cassette player and 6 speakers. The armrest with cup holders in the backseat is a very nice touch. The car has a European styling without the price of a European sports car. It also has keyless remote entry with trunk release, an 8-way power driver's seat, power windows and doors, leather interior, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift knob. The dash has a sports car style and the car drives great. The price range is excellent too!

  4. Gardner Moen 2024-08-23

The Verona's ride is definitely one of its best features. In my opinion, it surpasses the Accord in terms of comfort. Although its design may be considered old school, it is still very nice and classy. The engine runs smoothly and quietly, until you step on it. The Verona Luxury model offers a lot of value for your money. The only uncertainty is its reliability, which remains to be seen.

  5. Clement Mitchell 2024-08-17

Since I purchased this Verona, it has been an excellent ride. It's quiet and comfortable, and the lumbar seats are great for my bad back. I have the Titanium Silver color, which is easy to keep clean and doesn't show dirt too much compared to red or black. I would definitely purchase another one without any second thoughts.
