Common 2003 Infiniti I35 problems
The Infiniti i35, produced by Nissan's luxury division, is a well-regarded vehicle, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common issues. Here are some of the most common problems reported by owners of the 2003 Infiniti i35, based on complaints from owners of this car:
- Engine Oil Consumption: Some owners of the 2003 Infiniti i35 reported that the car consumed more oil than expected, especially in the early VQ35 engines. This issue can lead to engine damage and reduced performance if not addressed promptly.
- Lower Radiator Mount Rust: The lower radiator mount of the 2003 Infiniti i35 is prone to rust, which can cause the radiator to sag and leak. This issue can lead to engine overheating and reduced performance if not addressed promptly.
- Worn Engine Mounts: Clunks in the front of the 2003 Infiniti i35 are often due to worn engine mounts, which can cause the engine to move excessively and make noise. This issue can lead to reduced performance and reduced ride comfort if not addressed promptly.
- Seized Rear Calipers: The rear calipers of the 2003 Infiniti i35 can seize up, which can cause the brakes to drag and reduce the car's stopping power. This issue can lead to reduced performance and reduced safety if not addressed promptly.
- Blown Struts: The struts of the 2003 Infiniti i35 can blow out, which can cause the car to bounce and make noise. This issue can lead to reduced ride comfort and reduced handling if not addressed promptly.
- Wheel Bearing Noise: Howling or rumbling noises from the wheels of the 2003 Infiniti i35 can be caused by damaged wheel bearings, which can reduce the car's handling and safety. This issue can lead to reduced performance and reduced safety if not addressed promptly.
Regular maintenance and prompt attention to any issues that arise can help keep the 2003 Infiniti i35 running smoothly and reliably. While these issues are common, they are not universal, and many owners of the 2003 Infiniti i35 have reported no problems with their vehicles.
Is the Infiniti I35 the same as a Nissan Maxima?
Even though it's a "Nissan", the brand MAXIMA is 100x stronger than I-30/35. Infiniti as a whole is seen as a 2nd tier luxury brand. Yes the I35 offers slightly more luxurious features, but the Maxima matches most. Overall, looking as sales, it is obvious a Maxima is seen as a better car than a I-35.
What is the name of the Infiniti I35 engine?
VQ35DE V6
The car was renamed I35 to reflect an engine-displacement increase from 3.0 to 3.5 L. Nissan's VQ35DE V6 produced 255 hp.
What was the last year of the Infiniti I35?
2004
Likely due to redundancy and INFINITI's move away from front-wheel drive cars, the 2004 model year was the final appearance of the I35 sedan.
How fast is the Infiniti I35?
With a curb weight of 3,342 pounds, it made the 0-60 sprint in a shade over seven seconds, without undue urging.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-01-09
- VIN: JNKDA31A83T
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: Camshaft sensor according to the Infiniti dealership (Ray Brandt on Causeway in Metairie La.) Is malfunctioning at makes the car engine die while driving. Then when you restart the car the engine revs fine in neutral but once in drive it won't go over 5 mph. Also the timing chain tensioner fails on this car and can cause severe engine damage while the car is being driven. I've looked up both of these problems and have spoken with Nissan and Infiniti and a simple internet search will also confirm that these 2 problems are extremely common on this 5th generation engine. Nissan even lost 2 class action lawsuits on the timing tensioner. Well if Nissan lost 2 court battles over an engine defect that every Nissan internet forum says is a very very common problem then why isn't there a recall. And shouldn't hazing headlights be a safety issue on ALL cars? Almost all cars have this problem and manufacturers keep building cars with UNSAFE headlights. Why aren't these recalls? Thank you for this website. As an American Citizen and consumer with a daughter these safety concerns are very troubling to me and all my friends and business associates.

- Summary: MY 2003 INFINITY I35 STALSL WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL ROADS AND BUSY STATE HIGHWAYS LOCATED IN THE GREATER HILTON HEAD SC AREA. IT REQUIRES COASTING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT TURNS ON. I THEN CAN RESTART THE ENGINE AND RETURN TO MY HOME AS SOON AS I CAN. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND A RECALL NOTICE THAT DESCRIBED MY PROBLEM. SINCE DISCOVERING THE PROBLEM, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THEM TWICE NOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AT MY EXPENSE. THE PROBLEM HAS AGAIN RETURNED AND I DON'T WANT TO PAY A 3RD REPAIR BILL TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT OTHERS ARE GETTING FIXED UNDER THE RECALL ( 03V455000). THIS IS GETTING EXPENSIVE, VERY DANGEROUS, AND ELIMINATES THE USE OF MY CAR BY MY WIFE. SHE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AND I UNDERSTAND HER FEAR. WHAT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS NEEDED TO GET THIS PROBLEM TAKEN CARE OF.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-07-20
- VIN: JNKDA31A93T
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: CAR SHUTS DOWN. OVER THREE YEARS AGO IT DIED WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO THE INFINITY DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS CAM SENSOR. HAD IT & CRANK SENSOR REPLACED. PROBLEM PERSISTED. TOOK BACK TO INFINITY & WAS TOLD IT WAS THE CYLYNOID. HAD THATBREPLACE. PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE INFINITI DEALER SAID THE TIMING CHAIN NEED REPLACED BUT MY CAR WAS NOT WORTH SPENDING THAT AMOUNT OF REPAIR. MY CAR IS WELL KEPT WITH IT JUST NOW TIRNING OVER 100,000 MILES. I GOT A SECOND OPINION FROM A CERTIFIED CUSTOM NISSAN/INFINITI SHOP. HE LAUGHED AT THE TIMING CHAIN SUGGESTION. THEY HAVE BUILT & REPAIRED THOUSANDS OF MY VEHICLE & OTHERS WITJ TIMING CHAINS ...CHAINS DO NOT HAVE ISSUES ON CARS WITH VERY LITTLE MILAGE & GRANDMA DRIVING STYLE!. THEY CHANGED THE SENSORS FOR ME AGAIN USING ORIGINAL INFINITI PARTS. MY CAR RAN FINE FOR 2 YEARS. NOW I FACE THE SAME PROBLEM ONCE MORE. UNFORTUNATELY BEYOND RECALL LIMIT THAT I AM CERTAIN THE DEALERSHIP KNEW ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN WITHIN RECALL CORRECTION TIME LIMITS! MY CAR LOOSES ALL POWER & ALL DASH LIGHTS COME ON (ENGINE, TCS, SLIP,BRAKE, ETC). SOETIMES IT WILL INSTANTLY COME BACK ALIVE. MOST TIMES IT IS JUST DEAD. SCENARIOS VARY: 60 MPH ON FREEWAY, SITTING AT RED LIGHT, UPON ACCELERATION, GOING 5 MPH, AFTER 5 MINUTES OF DRIVE TIME, AFTER DAYS OF DRIVE TIME, ... THERE IS NO PATTERN OR PETICULAR ACTION THAT CAUSES IT. IT IS VERY SCARY & DANGEROUS TO ME & ALL AROUND ME. NOW I HAVE A GREAT CAR IN LIKE NEW CONDITION WITH ONLY 100,000 MILES, PAID FOR, THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE WITH NO MONEY OR CONTINUE TO ENDANGER MYSELF & OTHERS. I AM FURIOUS. !!!! IS THERE NOTHING ELSE I CAN DO? IS THERE NOTHING THAT INFINITI CAN DO?

SO I DROVE THE CAR TO CALABASH NORTH CAROLINA WHICH IS 10 MINUTE DRIVE TO MYRTLE BEACH SOUTH CAROLINA. I GO AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME IT WAS $125 FOR DIAGNOSTIC TEST. CALLED INFINITI BACK AND AGAIN I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 40 YEARS AND OWNED LOTS OF CARS NEVER ONCE DID I EVER HAVE A PROBLEM WITH AN AIRBAG! I HAVE OWNED FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC CARS AND AGAIN NO AIRBAG PROBLEMS. WHAT ARE THE MATHEMATICAL PROBABILITY OF MY DEFECTIVE AIRBAG SYSTEM FROM ONLY A INFINITI I35 2003 BEING THE ONLY AIRBAG PROBLEM WITH ANY AUTOMOBILE THAT I HAVE OWNED IN THE LAST 40 + YEARS? THE MATH DOES NOT WORK THEY HAVE A PROBLEM BUT THEY DON'T WANT TO ADDRESS IT. IT'S THE MANUFACTURERS FAULT NOT MINE, WHAT DO THEY WANT ME TO DO REPLACE THE AIRBAG AGAIN? MY GUT FEELING TELLS ME THAT THEY DIDN'T REMEDY THE PROBLEM OR THE HEAT FROM LIVING IN THE CAROLINAS IS ADVERSELY AFFECTING MY AIRBAG. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-07-19
- VIN: JNKDA31A73T
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I BOUGHT A 2003 INFINIT I35 A YEAR AGO AS MY FIRST CAR. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE DYING FOR WHAT SEEMS TO BE NO REASON. NO WARNING LIGHTS WOULD COME ON NOT EVEN A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT HAPPENED A WEEK AGO. WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT DIED A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES. WHEN I TRIED TO START IT BACK UP IT WOULDN'T TURN OVER. IT WOULD NOT TAKE A JUMP. NO FLUIDS WERE LOW. NO CABLES OR TERMINALS WERE LOOSE. I ENDED UP HAVING TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED. AT THE TIME IT HAD 216,000 MILES ROUGHLY. WHEN I DID RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH INFINITI MODELS 2003-2004 THAT HAD FAULTY CRANKSHAFT AND CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSORS. THE SAME SYMPTOMS THAT I HAD WERE MATCHING UP TO THE THOSE OF THE RECALL. IT WAS HAPPENING TO THOSE MODELS HAVING 113,000-225,000 ROUGHLY. WHEN I SEARCHED WITH THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND INFINIT I FOUND THAT THIS WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH MY VIN NUMBER. I THEN TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND FOUND THAT IN FACT THOSE SAME SENSORS WERE FAULTY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO FUNCTION INCORRECTLY. SO NOW I HAVE TO WONDER WHY THEN MY 2003 INFINIT I35 WAS NOT RECOGNIZED AS BEING AFFECTED BY MY RECALL WHEN I NOW HAVE PROOF THAT THE SAME SENSORS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS RECALL ARE IN FACT FAULTY.

2003 Infiniti I35 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2003 Infiniti I35.
- Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2001-2003 Maxima, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2007-2011 Versa Sedan and Versa Hatchback, 2001-2004 Infiniti I30 and I35, 2002-2003 Inifiniti QX4, 2003-2008 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 and 2006-2010 M35 and M45 vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with non-desiccated, frontal passenger air bag inflators containing phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant that were used as interim remedy parts for previous Takata recalls. These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflators with alternate desiccated inflators, free of charge. The recall began February 12, 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 888-737-9511 or Infiniti customer service at 888-810-3715.

These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. These inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began December 21, 2017. All owners should receive a second notice by May 15, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on June 16, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. Note: This recall supersedes recall 14V-701.

My wife and I recently upgraded from a 99 Explorer to the I35 and she absolutely loves it! She won't even let anyone else drive it. The car drives great and has a fantastic sound system, not to mention the impressive gas mileage. We're thrilled that we haven't had to take it back to the dealer for any minor issues like we have with previous cars. In fact, I'm so impressed that I'm planning on purchasing a G35 for myself next month!

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your new car! It sounds like it's been a great upgrade for you, especially with all the driving you do. It's great to hear that you're getting such good gas mileage and that the car handles well. It's also good to know that you've had positive experiences with Nissan and Infiniti in the past. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

After owning two Q45's, I decided to give my husband the last one and get a smaller, sportier car for myself. I am a realtor and drive for business, and I must say, I absolutely love this car! It has all the luxury of the Q, but in a smaller version. The comfort, style, and ease of driving are unparalleled, and the equipment is top-notch. The dash is especially great, as it tells me exactly how many more miles I have before I need to fill up. The navigation system is also a must-have for my work, and it makes my life so much easier. I chose the I35 over the Lexus due to my past experiences with Infinity. It is a dependable car with great services, free car washes, and I have never had a problem with it.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to say that I've had my I35 for over a year now and I still absolutely love it. Even after opening it up on I95, it hasn't lost its kick! Despite the sporty features, the car is actually quite practical. The fold down seats in the back are great for my chows, and the trunk is roomy with a pass through that's big enough to be useful. Additionally, the leather quality is excellent and doesn't seem to wear at all.

I really like everything about the car! The changes I would make are pretty minor, though. I would match the color of the headlights to the fog lights and add a little more zip to its performance when starting. The car seems a little sluggish when starting out. I would probably check out the G35 coupe, but I like the I35 ride better.

The vehicle was great until it reached 60k miles. Despite regular maintenance, it has some issues with gas consumption, suspension, tire wear, oil burning, transmission, and muffler rust. Unfortunately, it has cost over $5000 in repairs and even left me stranded 1000 miles away from home when the TPS (throttle position sensor - once recalled) failed. The out of town repair alone cost $1000. However, I am hopeful that with proper care and attention, these issues can be resolved.

The sunroof may require attention, and the dashboard and windscreen may produce some noise in colder weather, but these minor issues do not detract from the overall quality of the ride. The clock visibility at night time could be improved, and the speakers for the audio system are average.

I noticed that the ride feels unresponsive and there seems to be too much play in the wheel. I was wondering why a 255HP vehicle has front-wheel drive as it feels a bit weird. Additionally, I found that the headlights come on automatically a bit too soon.

I bought this car almost 5 years ago because I had heard so many great things about Infiniti. The first 3 years were good, but then I started having issues with low oil and unfortunately, they were never able to diagnose the problem. Now, with only 87000 miles, the engine has failed. This is definitely not what I expected from a car dealer with such a great reputation for quality. Unfortunately, my experience with their customer satisfaction department was not satisfying at all, and as a result, I have decided to purchase a BMW instead.

The ride quality of my vehicle has been subpar. Despite the manufacturer's attempts to address the issue by replacing the wheels and tires, the vibration in the front end persists at speeds between 45mph and 70mph. While the Infiniti technicians acknowledge the problem, they have deemed it acceptable. However, I do not find this acceptable and believe that further action should be taken to resolve the issue.
