1995 Subaru Legacy problems
The Subaru Legacy (Japanese: スバル・レガシィ, Hepburn: Subaru Regashi) is a mid-size car built by Japanese automobile manufacturer Subaru since 1989. The maker's flagship car, it is unique in its class for offering all-wheel drive as a standard feature, and Subaru's traditional boxer engine. The Legacy was sold as the Liberty in Australia out of deference to Legacy Australia, an organisation dedicated to caring for the families of military service veterans.
In 1996, a variant of the Legacy with heightened suspension called the Legacy Outback was introduced to compete in the burgeoning sport-utility vehicle class and proved to be a sales success for Subaru. The Outback line was split into its own model in 2008, known as the Subaru Outback.
As of 2008, 3.6 million Legacy models have been built since its 1989 introduction.
Production of the Legacy ended in Japan in June 2020, with the sixth-generation Legacy being the last model produced and marketed in Japan. Subaru of America announced in an internal email that 2025 will be the last model year for the Subaru Legacy. The Subaru Outback will remain in production, after being the company's top selling model in 2023.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-10-16
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- VIN: 4S3BK6557S7
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: 10/162017 - I WAS WALKING DOWN THE STREET TO MEET MY WIFE FOR DINNER AFTER PARKING MY CAR. AS I WATCHED HER PULL INTO THE PARKING LOT IN FRONT OF ME IN THE LEGACY I SAW THE WINDSHIELD GET BLOWN OUT BY THE PASSENGER AIRBAG BEING DEPLOYED. SHE WAS STOPPED WAITING FOR TRAFFIC ON A CITY STREET TO CLEAR TO PULL IN AND WAS NOT MOVING VERY FAST AT ALL, APPROX 5 MPH. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND MY WIFE SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES FROM FLYING GLASS. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE THE FOLLOWING DAY OUR MECHANIC SAID HE BELIEVED THAT THE AIRBAG RECALL # 96V315000 PERFORMED ON 12/11/1998 APPARENTLY WAS NOT PERFORMED PROPERLY AND HE SUSPECTED THAT THE POORLY REMOVED TOW-HOOK WAS NOT CUT OFF SHORT ENOUGH (NOT TO THE RECALL SPEC) TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL INFLATION OF THE AIRBAG. I BELIEVE THAT THE REMAINING STUB OF THE TOW-HOOK MAY HAVE IMPACTED THE DRIVEWAY AS SHE PULLED IN DEPLOYING THE AIRBAG, WE CONTACTED SUBARU AND THEY BASICALLY SAID IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. SEE ATTACHED PICTURES FROM OUR MECHANIC AND EMAIL CORRESPONDENCES FROM SUBARU.
SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-10-28
- VIN: 4S3BD6350S6
- Components: SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE
- Summary: THE LEFT REAR STRUT TOWER ON THE CAR ROTTED ALMOST COMPLETELY OFF . THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING AS THE CAR WAS INSPECTED. OUT THAT ALMOST ALL OF THE REAR CROSSMEMBER WAS ROTTED AWAY ON THE LEFT REAR SIDE AND THE RIGHT REAR SIDE HAS A COUPLE OF ROT HOLES IN IT GETTING READY TO DO THE SAME THING THE LEFT SIDE DID. IF THE LEFT STRUT TOWER HAD COMPLETELY BROKE OFF THE TIRE WOULD HAVE GONE RIGHT INTO THE ROTTED WHEEL WELL PROBABLY CAUSING THE TIRE TO BLOW BECAUSE I'M SURE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SLICED OPEN FROM THE JAGGED RUSTED METAL WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE CAR BODY ON THE LEFT SIDE TO DROP AND START TO SCRAP ON THE PAVEMENT. IF YOUR NOT FAMILIAR WITH A SUBARU THE GAS TANK IS LOCATED JUST IN FRONT OF THE REAR TIRES AND IT JUST ABOUT POKES INTO THE WHEEL WELL AREA. IN MY CALCULATIONS THE GAS TANK WOULD HAVE BEEN SCRAPPING THE PAVEMENT AND IT WAS FULL BY THE WAY. I HAVE EMAILED SUBARU ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY DID A VIN# CHECK AND TOLD ME THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY STATED PROBLEM AND THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE CAR. *TR

VINCE'S AUTO IS REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE TIRE FOR "NO CHARGE"; HOWEVER, THERE ARE 3 REMAINING TIRES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I BELIEVE YOU SHOULD INVESTIGATE. I'M SURPRISED THERE IS NO MENTION OF VEERUBBER NOR VITRON ON YOUR DROPDOWN LIST FOR RECALL SEARCH. TIRES ARE VEE RUBBER VITRON 195/60 R15 88H DOT 6MSJ 4910. PLEASE HELP. I bought this car at 98k miles and sold it at 125k. When I first got it, there was an oil leak that was pretty bad and made me feel nauseous. However, I got it fixed by resealing the oil pump and also put on new struts and a windshield. After that, it turned out to be a great little car. As expected from a Subaru, it could handle any winter weather and drive through snow like a submarine. It also had great traction on the road. On snowy days, I would be driving at the speed limit on two or three inches of powder while other cars were struggling. Unfortunately, I had to sell it because it started developing some weird AWD issues. When I turned the wheel to the max, it would hesitate and shimmy, and sometimes it would lurch in a strange way. I had no idea what was causing it, so I let the next owner figure it out (and I did tell him).

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with this car. I've been driving it for 7 years now and I have to say, it's been a great ride! I haven't had to spend a penny on repairs, except for the alternator which was replaced on a recall and the knock sensor which was covered under warranty. The oil change is a breeze too - the filter and drain plug can be easily reached without having to jack up the car. While the pickup is a little weak, the car handles really well. It's also great in the snow, although I've noticed that it tends to pack under the body if the snow is 15 inches or more. Overall, I'm really happy with this car and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable ride!

I recently purchased a 95 Subaru Legacy Sedan with 86000 miles on it, and I am thrilled to own it because of Subaru's excellent reputation. Although there are a few minor issues, such as a broken gas gauge and dome light, as well as the need for some routine maintenance like an oil change and transmission fluid change, the car is in great condition overall. I am excited to enjoy many years with this fantastic vehicle. In fact, my family's previous Subaru had almost 200000 miles on it before we traded it in, and it was still running smoothly.
-
This is an awesome car! It's incredibly reliable and can handle any weather condition with confidence. I've owned this car for almost 9 years and it has saved me from accidents countless times. If you take good care of it by changing the oil regularly and keeping up with maintenance, it will reward you with many years and miles of great performance. My whole family owns at least one Subaru and we are all happy customers. I can't think of many products on the market, even beyond cars, that I can speak about with such confidence as I can with Subaru!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my 1995 Legacy L wagon. It has been with me since the beginning and has been such a reliable car. Even after 125000 miles, it's still going strong! I actually bought a newer Subaru a few years ago, but I just can't seem to part with my '95. It's just that good! The engine needed new oil gaskets at around 95000 miles, but that's about it. It's a 5-speed manual with the original clutch, and I've found that changing the oil and rotating the tires every 5000 miles keeps the car happy. Like some other reviewers, I've noticed that the gas gauge can be a bit weird, but I just use the trip odometer instead. I still get around 26 miles to the gallon. Thanks for listening!
