2011 Subaru Impreza problems
The Subaru Impreza (Japanese: スバル・インプレッサ, Hepburn: Subaru Inpuressa) is a compact car that has been manufactured by the Japanese automaker Subaru since 1992. It was introduced as a replacement for the Leone, with the predecessor's EA series engines replaced by the new EJ series. It is now in its sixth generation.
Subaru has offered a 5-door hatchback body variant since 2008. The firm also offered a coupé from 1995 until 2001, a 4-door sedan up to the fifth generation, and a 5-door wagon from the Impreza's introduction which was replaced by a hatchback with the third generation in 2008. Mainstream versions have received "boxer" flat-four engines ranging from 1.5- to 2.5-liters, with the performance-oriented Impreza WRX and WRX STI models upgraded with the addition of turbochargers. Since the third generation series, some markets have adopted the abbreviated Subaru WRX name for these high-performance variants. The first three generations of Impreza were also available with an off-road appearance non-SUV package called the Outback Sport, exclusive to the North American market. For the fourth generation, this appearance package was raised up to be subcompact crossover SUV and renamed the XV (Crosstrek in North America), and is sold internationally. Colloquially, the car is sometimes referred to as Scooby.
Subaru has offered front- and all-wheel drive layouts for the Impreza. Since the late-1990s, some markets have restricted sales to the all-wheel drive model, putting the Impreza in a unique selling proposition in the global compact class, which is usually characterized by front-wheel drive. Japanese models remain available in both configurations.
A 2019 iSeeCars study named the Impreza as the lowest-depreciating sedan in the United States after five years.

- VIN: JF1GE6A60BH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
- Summary: TAKATA RECALL, BRAKE LAMP SWITCH FAILURE. WE LIVE IN A SMALL ALASKAN BUSH TOWN CALLED DILLINGHAM THAT'S NOT ON THE ROAD SYSTEM. WE (MYSELF AND AROUND 30+ OTHER RESIDENTS) HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET SUBARU TO SEND A TECHNICIAN OUT FOR 2 YEARS NOW TO FIX OUR DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS. JUST TODAY WE RECEIVED A RECALL FOR OUR BRAKE LAMP SWITCH. WE CANNOT SIMPLY 'GO TO A DEALER'S AS THERE IS NONE. WE'D HAVE TO SEND OUR CAR AS FREIGHT TO ANCHORAGE (WHICH COSTS THOUSANDS AND CAN TAKE UPWARDS OF A MONTH) AND MOST OF THE TOWN CANNOT AFFORD TO DO SO. WE EVEN HAVE A FACEBOOK GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO NEED RECALLED CARS FIXED FROM SUBARU, HONDA AND TOYOTA. WE'VE BEEN CALLING AND WRITING FOR 2 YEARS AND NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN DONE. WE'RE JUST TOLD THAT 'THEYLL SEND SOMEONE OUT'. SOMEONE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE KILLED BY A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG OR IN AN ACCIDENT JUST TO GET THESE ISSUES FIXED.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-03-11
- VIN: JF1GH6D69BG
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: 3 TIMES MY ENGINE HAS NEEDED A SHORT BLOCK REPLACEMENT. I HAVE BROUGHT CAR IN FOR ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AND HAVE CHANGED THE OIL EVERY 3500-4000 MILES. THE FIRST ENGINE PROBLEM OCCURRED AT 26,250 MI. I NOTICED A KNOCKING SOUND AND BROUGHT TO SUBARU DEALER. DIAGNOSIS: "BEARING DAMAGE TO CONNECTING ROD BEARING FOR CYLINDER 2." SHORT BLOCK REPLACED, UNDER WARRANTY. (SEE DOCS) 2ND INCIDENT OCCURRED AT 51,232 MILES. THIS TIME THERE WAS NO WARNING AND I WAS ON AN INTERSTATE WHEN THE ENGINE SEIZED AND ALL POWER WAS LOST. TOWED TO A SUBARU DEALER. NO DIAGNOSIS WAS GIVEN AT THAT TIME BUT SHORT BLOCK WAS AGAIN REPLACED. THIS TIME I HAD TO PAY FOR THE TEARDOWN ($222) BUT SUBARU, AFTER NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS AGREED TO DO THE WORK AS A "GOOD WILL GESTURE." (SEE DOCS) THE 3RD & LAST MALFUNCTION OCCURRED AT 58,700 MILES, A MERE 7,000 MILES SINCE THE LAST ENGINE WAS REPLACED. AGAIN, I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE AND WITH A MOMENTS NOTICE (REDUCTION IN POWER) THE ENGINE SEIZED. IT WAS SHEER LUCK THAT I WAS NOT KILLED TRYING TO MOVE OVER 6 LANES WITH NO POWER OR STEERING TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY. TOWED TO A SUBARU DEALER. I DO NOT HAVE ANY PAPERWORK FROM THIS LAST INCIDENT. SUBARU SAID THEY WOULD PAY FOR ENTIRE REPAIR. BUT BEFORE I COULD MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION, I ASKED FOR WRITTEN DOCUMENTATION OF THE PROBLEM, CAUSE AND A DETAILED REPAIR DESCRIPTION. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED THIS INFORMATION & DID NOT GIVE CONSENT TO REPAIR CAR. JUST GOT A CALL FROM THE DEALER SAYING CAR WAS REPAIRED AND READY FOR PICKUP. THE ONLY INFORMATION I HAVE REGARDING THIS LAST SEIZURE WAS FROM A SUBARU OF AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICES REP WHO VERBALLY TOLD ME THAT "THE CYLINDER 4 ROD WAS THROWN." THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WHEN A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 58000 MILES NEEDS 3 ENGINES. I REFUSE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AGAIN. I WILL NOT JEOPARDIZE MY LIFE AND OF THOSE AROUND ME.

THE DEALERSHIP WAS FARRISH SUBARU IN FAIRFAX, VA. I SCHEDULED MY APPOINTMENT LAST NIGHT FOR MARCH 25. I RECEIVED TWO EMAILS TODAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THE FIRST ADVISED ME THAT THEY HAD CANCELED MY APPOINTMENT. THE SECOND STATED THAT THEY PLANNED ON SCHEDULING ALL RECALL APPOINTMENTS FOR THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY, ALMOST TWO MONTHS FROM NOW, WHICH SEEMS LIKE AN UNACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO WAIT. I DO NOT HAVE ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF TRANSPORTATION READILY AVAILABLE AND I FREQUENTLY HAVE PASSENGERS RIDING IN MY CAR. I HAVE ATTACHED SCREENSHOTS OF THE EMAILS I RECEIVED FROM FARRISH SUBARU.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-12-13
- VIN: JF1GH6B68BH
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: BEGINNING LAST WINTER, A STRANGE AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM STARTED WITH MY SUBARU. WHENEVER THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS COLD (BELOW FREEZING) AND THE GAS TANK IS THREE QUARTERS FULL OR MORE, THE GAS TANK LEAKS. IF THE CAR IS PARKED FOR A FEW HOURS OR MORE, THE GAS APPEARS AS A PUDDLE ON THE GROUND (ABOUT 8 INCHES IN DIAMETER) AND THE FUMES FILL THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. IF THE CAR IS PARKED IN OUR ATTACHED GARAGE, THE FUMES MAKE THEIR WAY INTO OUR HOME OVERNIGHT. THE ODOR IS STRONG! THIS, IN MY OPINION, IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. MY LAUNDRY ROOM IS NEXT TO THE GARAGE AND OBVIOUSLY, IF I SMALL GAS, I DON'T USE MY CLOTHES DRYER. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO MY LOCAL SUBARU DEALER AND THEY CLAIM THEY CANNOT FIND ANY LEAK IN THE TANK OR FILL PORTION. THE ONLY THING I CAN DO -- IS NEVER FILL THE CAR MORE THAN HALF WAY AND HOPE NOTHING BAD HAPPENS, LIKE A FIRE OR EXPLOSION. I UNDERSTAND FROM THE INTERNET, THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH CERTAIN SUBARU MAKES/MODELS. WHY IS IT NOT BEING ADDRESSED? PLEASE HELP.

- Manufacturer: Subaru of America, Inc.
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
- Summary: Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2009-2013 Forester vehicles, 2008-2011 Impreza vehicles, 2008-2014 WRX vehicles, 2005-2014 Legacy vehicles, 2005-2014 Outback vehicles and 2006-2008 Tribeca vehicles equipped with a mechanical key ignition switch installed as a replacement part. The ball spring inside the switch may break, reducing the strength of the ignition switch. If this occurs, the weight on the key ring and certain road conditions could cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position to the accessory position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: The engine turning off unexpectedly can increase the risk of a crash. If a crash occurs under this condition, the air bag may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the ignition switch, replacing the ignition switch, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began May 10, 2019. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WUF-91.

I was in the market for a new car and I am thrilled with my decision. I considered the Accord Coup V6, Evo Ralliart, GTI, and Mazda 3, but I was most impressed with the performance of the WRX. The acceleration is quick and the handling is great! Despite being a compact car, the interior cabin is quite spacious. While I was hoping for better gas mileage, I have to admit that it's mostly due to my heavy foot. I'm averaging 20 miles per gallon in town and about 28 on the highway.

Just picked it up this week. I'm really enjoying driving the car so far. On mountain roads, I've been getting about 22MPG. The leather seats are very comfortable and the stock stereo is decent. There is some road noise, but it doesn't bother me too much. The only downside is that there aren't many compartments to store things. As someone who likes to carry around emergency supplies, downsizing from my old Corolla to this car was a bit of a challenge.

I leased a 2011 Impreza Outback Sport (all weather package) in April 2011 and have put about 18k miles on it. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with it so far. While it's not a performance model, it's still fun to drive and with the seats folded down, I have plenty of space to haul things like my entire acoustic drum set. It's your typical versatile Subaru, but I do have a few minor complaints about the quality of the interior. The seats' cloth is a bit thin and feels flimsy, and the front passenger door has rattled from the speaker's bass since day 1. Additionally, the driver side headrest wobbles a bit, and I can even feel where the posts end in the seat-back when I lean my head against it. Lastly, the center console latch broke just 3 weeks in. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving my Impreza and would recommend it to others.

This car is definitely one of the best I've ever owned! It looks great and drives like a dream. While the gas mileage isn't the best, it's worth it for the joy of driving it. The AWD and traction are amazing in the snow and rain, making me feel confident behind the wheel. It's a really fun car, but it can be expensive to maintain. Even in stock form, this car is quick and will turn heads when you pass by. Some people even like to follow you and admire your car! :)

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I've found that on road trips, I can regularly get 31+ mpg, which is great! I also really appreciate the heated seats, especially during the colder months. I've never been stuck in a snow storm with this car, which is a huge relief. However, I have found that the Bluetooth can be a bit finicky at times. It's definitely a compact car, but you'd be surprised at how much you can fit in it with the seats down. My only complaint is that I wish the rear seats had more leg room. Overall, though, I really love this car!

In 2011, my wife and I purchased two new Subarus: a Legacy Limited and an Impreza Premium 5-door. While the Legacy has been great, unfortunately, the Impreza did not live up to our expectations. I made the mistake of buying an automatic instead of a 5-speed, and the 4-speed auto was terrible. The transmission performance deteriorated as I put more miles on it, and the seats were made of a cheap material that faded quickly. Additionally, the TomTom navigation system had to be replaced after just 14 months, and the door trim rotted off. The plastic on the center console also started to come off. However, the AWD was a great feature. After 15 months, I decided to trade it in for a 2012 Forester (I still love Subaru). I'm glad to hear that the Impreza has been updated.

The STI did not meet my expectations in terms of build quality, performance, and features. The hatch, hoodscoop, and headlights had issues with rattling and vibration at highway speeds, and the dashboard developed rattles and squeaks. The gearbox was inconsistent, and the GPS was outdated and cumbersome. Additionally, the radio was underpowered and had to be run at full volume to overcome highway noise. While I was disappointed with my experience, I acknowledge that others may have had a different experience.

The engine is definitely one of the best parts of the car!

I've been driving the car for a month now and overall I'm really enjoying it. However, I have noticed one issue that stands out - the turn in and body roll could be improved. Surprisingly, my plain jane 09 Honda Civic handles better, even with understeer! I think it would have been great if Subaru had used the WRX suspension on this model. On the bright side, I've ordered Rallitek sway bars to help with the issue.

Our 2002 Impreza Outback Sport (the hatchback Impreza) experienced issues with the Head Gasket and Catalytic Converter at 150,000 miles, which unfortunately reoccurred 50,000 miles later. Despite our disappointment, Subaru Annapolis and Subaru National Customer Service advised us that it would not be cost-effective to repair a car with 200,000 miles on it and suggested buying a new one. As a loyal Subaru customer, we expected our car to last longer than this. However, we understand that every car has its limits. Therefore, we recommend caution when considering purchasing this model unless it is offered at a price comparable to that of a Hyundai.
