2007 Subaru Impreza problems

subaru logo

The Subaru Impreza (Japanese: スバル・インプレッサ, Hepburn: Subaru Inpuressa) is a compact car that has been manufactured by the Japanese automaker Subaru since 1992. It was introduced as a replacement for the Leone, with the predecessor's EA series engines replaced by the new EJ series. It is now in its sixth generation.

Subaru has offered a 5-door hatchback body variant since 2008. The firm also offered a coupé from 1995 until 2001, a 4-door sedan up to the fifth generation, and a 5-door wagon from the Impreza's introduction which was replaced by a hatchback with the third generation in 2008. Mainstream versions have received "boxer" flat-four engines ranging from 1.5- to 2.5-liters, with the performance-oriented Impreza WRX and WRX STI models upgraded with the addition of turbochargers. Since the third generation series, some markets have adopted the abbreviated Subaru WRX name for these high-performance variants. The first three generations of Impreza were also available with an off-road appearance non-SUV package called the Outback Sport, exclusive to the North American market. For the fourth generation, this appearance package was raised up to be subcompact crossover SUV and renamed the XV (Crosstrek in North America), and is sold internationally. Colloquially, the car is sometimes referred to as Scooby.

Subaru has offered front- and all-wheel drive layouts for the Impreza. Since the late-1990s, some markets have restricted sales to the all-wheel drive model, putting the Impreza in a unique selling proposition in the global compact class, which is usually characterized by front-wheel drive. Japanese models remain available in both configurations.

A 2019 iSeeCars study named the Impreza as the lowest-depreciating sedan in the United States after five years.

Common 2007 Subaru Impreza problems

The Subaru Impreza 2007 has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. One of the most frequently reported issues is related to the transmission. At around 75,000 miles, some owners have reported a whine or rattle in the manual transmission, which tends to get louder over time. This issue was found to be caused by a pitted output shaft bearing, and the repair cost can be around $1200, although it is typically covered by the extended warranty.

Another common problem with the Subaru Impreza 2007 is related to the brakes. Subaru has launched a major recall of 121,754 vehicles due to a potential fault that can cause the brake lights to fail, although the brakes themselves will still function.

The Subaru Impreza 2007 also has issues with oil leaks, which is a common problem in many Subaru models. The car is known to leak oil from the rear, and this is caused by the plastic oil baffle plate that is extremely prone to failure. Subaru has released an improved design, which is available on the drop-down parts list. However, it is a bit of a fiddly part to get to, and it requires some patience to replace.

The check engine light is also a common problem in the Subaru Impreza 2007. While there are hundreds of potential reasons why the check engine light may come on, the most common cause is the knock sensor, which can turn on intermittently when driving the Impreza. If the sensor is fine, then the spark plug wires and the ignition coil should be checked, as these are the next most common issues that cause the light to turn on. If everything seems fine, then a full diagnostic check is necessary.

The clutch can also be a problem in the Subaru Impreza 2007. If the car chatters when starting from cold, it could be a sign of a faulty clutch. If the car is still under warranty, the dealer will replace the clutch for free. If there is no warranty, then a complete clutch assembly should be replaced.

The brakes on the Subaru Impreza 2007 are also known to be under-specified, and they can wear out incredibly quickly. Installing a whole new brake kit on both sides of the front of the car is the best solution to this problem.

Finally, the synchromesh system in the gearbox of the Subaru Impreza 2007 has a known flaw. If a crunching noise and a knocking sound are heard when moving from 2nd to 3rd gear, it is a sign of a problem with the synchromesh system. This is a serious issue, and if ignored, it can lead to the destruction of multiple parts of the car. Replacement synchromesh systems are available on the parts list, but installation can be challenging.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-10-06
  • VIN: JF1GG746X7G
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD(LUCKILY AT 35 MPH) THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I DOWN SHIFTED AND USED THE EBRAKE AND STOPPED SAFELY AND NOTICED A PUDDLE UNDER THE CAR IN FRONT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE. AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE HOME SAFELY, AND CHECKING THINGS OUT, I NOTICED THE 4 WAY CONNECTOR (RECALLED UNDER CAMPAIGN# WQK-47) WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND LOOKS AS THOUGH IT HAD NEVER BEEN ADDRESSED. THEN, WHILE LOOKING UP THE PART, I NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT NOT ON MY SPECIFIC YEAR AND MODEL, EVEN THOUGH THE SURROUNDING MODELS AND YEARS WERE RECALLED. PERHAPS THIS WAS OVERLOOKED? OR THE AMOUNT OF UNMODIFIED SURVIVING WRX'S DIDN'T PETICULARLY JUSTIFY A RECALL ON THAT MODEL? EITHER WAY, IT COULD POTENTIALLY BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS IS ALSO AN INCREDIBLY INVOLVED FIX. THE PART ON THE 06-07 IMPREZA WRX IS THE EXACT SAME PART THAT WAS RECALLED ON THE 05-08 OUTBACKS AND LEGACYS. I WILL BE CALLING SUBARU OF AMERICA TODAY AND HOPEFULLY THEY WILL BE ABLE TO HELP ME OUT. BUT YOU GUYS SHOULD HAVE THEM NOTIFY ANY 06-07 WRX OWNERS IN THE RUST BELT THAT THIS MIGHT BE A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD! FEEL FREE TO CALL ME AT [XXX]FOR ANY FURTHER EXPLANATION! THANKS, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

Negative 2007 Subaru Impreza car reviews

I purchased my 2007 Subaru Impreza during the summer and initially had no issues. However, as winter approached, I began experiencing difficulties starting the engine. Despite these challenges, I have had a positive experience with the Subaru service team in Turkey. They went above and beyond by traveling a great distance to my home and attempting to fix my car on two separate occasions, both at my home and at their service department. Unfortunately, the car has not improved and my experiences this second winter have been challenging. I have to wake up at 12:30 am and drive for about 15 minutes to ensure that the car starts more easily in the cold mornings.

Although I was able to secure the desired space in a compact wagon, I am disappointed with the ride quality and noise level. The car's ride is rough, and every small bump on the road is felt, causing discomfort. Additionally, the car's build quality is subpar, with the paint chipping easily and the pinstripe peeling off. Despite having only 4,500 miles on it, this car has been a regrettable purchase. While it could benefit from additional front storage space, I do not anticipate keeping it for more than a year.

This car is almost perfect! Its handling, acceleration, and braking are comparable to those of a supercar, but for only 30% of the price. People compliment its good looks, and it gets all the right kind of attention. The engine has good power, the transmission ratios are perfect, and the AWD is awesome. The seats feel great, the interior is very mature, and all controls are easy to reach. The climate control system works perfectly. Although this is my first non-US made car, I can see why Detroit is in big trouble. I think it's one of the best-looking cars of all time. By the way, the gas mileage is BETTER than rated! (Insurance is higher than expected).

I wanted a fun and reliable car that would fit into a college student's budget, and I found just that with this car. I absolutely love the dealership, and I love the car even more. While I would have loved to afford the insurance for the WRX STi, the 2.5i is still tons of fun! =)

Your car sounds like a real joy to drive! It's great to hear that it has provided you with 7 years of flawless performance.

I absolutely love my Sub! After owning it for six months and driving 14,000 miles, I find myself getting happier each time I get behind the wheel. I mainly use it for my daily commute, which is a 3-hour drive each way into D.C. over the mountains and down the hills. Here's why the Suba-Rules: - The bucket seats are incredibly comfortable, making long drives a breeze; - The steering is very responsive and the car is nimble; - The acceleration is quick and responsive, and most importantly, I average 27-29 MPG. Even with plenty of city driving, the worst I've gotten is 24 MPG. On trips where the speed limit was 55, I even broke 30 MPG! Initially, I was a bit hesitant to purchase the Sub because of the listed 22 MPG on this site and the 22-27 MPG on the manufacturer's site, but AWD was important to me. It turns out that I got the perfect mix of fun and function.

The WRX is an amazing car, not only because of its performance, reliability, and unique rally breed, but also because of its price tag. It paved the way for other AWD performance cars such as the Mazdaspeed6, Audi A3, and R32, but at a much more affordable price. I find it puzzling that the R32 is compared to the STI in terms of performance, as its acceleration is not better than the stock WRX. The GTI is not even in the same league. The Mazda3speed is also a great car, especially if you're not interested in AWD. Personally, I prefer the front fascia of the 2004 and 2005 models over the 2006 and 2007 ones. It would have been great if the stock 17
