The xA received a minor facelift for the 2006 model year, before importation ended in December 2006. The xA's successor, the xD was delivered to US dealerships beginning in August 2007 as a 2008 model.

- Summary: Symptom: When brakes are applied, car will violently jerk to the left into the path of oncoming traffic. Countersteering to prevent collision results in left front tire skidding with poor braking. Cause: Initially, the suspected cause was a failed right front brake caliper. However, upon investigation, it was found that the ABS braking module was blocking all brake fluid from going to the right front caliper. Solution: ABS braking module must be replaced. Comment: It should be assumed that if one front wheel brake is disabled, then the other could also be disabled without warning resulting in no braking capability at all. On this vehicle, the rear brakes are also controlled by the ABS module.

AFTER INSPECTING THE CAR AT THE TOW LOT, MY SON AND I COULD SEE THAT THE FRAME WAS BENT SO I GAVE IT TO THE TOW LOT FOR THE COST OF TOW FEES. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT INJURED BEYOND ACHES AND PAINS. Well, I have no complaints about this car. It has over 100,000 miles and I have only done simple maintenance on it. The stereo is great and I even put 18 inch wheels on it without changing any shocks or anything. It runs really well, but it may lose a little power after this many miles. Maybe it's because I push this car a lot, I mean, a lot.

Hi there! I'm a courier and I have been provided with a car by my boss. I must say, it's a pleasure to work with this car as it's nimble, quick, and easy to park. The car has been driven for about 115K miles, mostly on highways, and has only required new tires, brakes, and a new alternator (the old one chewed up the belt). The car also has a nice stereo, cold a/c, and hot heat, and the seating position is up high (almost minivan-like). I usually drive 300-500 miles per day and, besides a tire blowout, it has never let me down. I would definitely buy this car. :)

I've had my xA for eleven months and I must say, it's an incredible value. For the standard price, I received a car with an engine featuring variable valve timing, automatic transmission, anti-lock brakes, side airbags, air conditioning, power steering, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, rear wiper, rear defroster, a tachometer, a Pioneer radio/CD player and 6 speakers with controls on the steering wheel, a 60/40-split-folding rear seat, and even a first aid kit. If you check out Edmunds.com's True Cost to Own, you'll see that the five-year depreciation is much lower compared to other cars. I've kept track of my gas records and the worst tank mileage was 26.32, the best was 36.71, and the average for 39 fill-ups was 30.51 mpg. Overall, I highly recommend the xA!

You made a great choice when you bought this car brand new. It has been driven for 93,000 miles now and has proven to be a reliable vehicle. At 62,000 miles, the right rear wheel bearing had to be replaced, but the dealer took care of it for free, even though it wasn't under warranty anymore. They said it shouldn't have happened on a Toyota. At 78,000 miles, the front brake pads were replaced, but other than that, only routine maintenance (spark plugs, oil, filters, belts) has been necessary. This car is perfect for Alaska's winter with studded tires, and it even performed well when driven through the mountains from Anchorage to Valdez, getting 43 mpg on the highway. In the city, it gets about 21-25mpg. Take good care of this car, and it will continue to be a reliable and great car for you.

Pros: This vehicle is small, sleek, roomy and fuel efficient. However, there are some issues that need to be addressed. The speedometer broke and needs to be replaced, and the brakes (disks and pads) also need to be replaced. Additionally, due to the design of the vehicle, it is not recommended to open the windows while driving at highway speeds as it can cause instability and excessive pressure in the cabin. Finally, there are some vibration noises in the cabin while idling. While I initially purchased this vehicle with the expectation of Toyota quality, I have found that the overall quality is poor.

I purchased my Scion XA back in 2004 and fell in love with it. It has great gas mileage and is fun to drive. However, over the past 4+ years, I have been experiencing some noticeable issues. Despite taking it in for maintenance, my check engine light is always on. Additionally, my car shakes quite a bit when idling, which can be frustrating. I have taken it to several mechanics, but unfortunately, nobody has been able to fix the issues. Another problem I have encountered is that my driver's side window gets stuck, which is especially inconvenient during the winter months. Lastly, my brakes sometimes feel like they may give out when driving down a hill with snow. On a positive note, the car is very economical when it comes to gas. Overall, I have had some challenges with my Scion XA, but I still appreciate its positive qualities.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my Scion. I bought it brand new off the lot and it has been such a reliable car for me over the past 5 years. Even with over 103K miles on it, I've only had to do minor repairs. While the fuel economy hasn't been as great as I expected, I'm still happy with the bargain price of around $12,500 and all the features it comes with that most cars in that price range don't have. I have driven and owned several cars in my driving experience. In my opinion, this car has its pros and cons. On the positive side, it comes relatively loaded for the sticker price, has good mpg (32-ish), a good solid manual transmission, impressive reliability, and is surprisingly roomy. However, on the negative side, it has a sluggish response from a buzzy, noisy engine. To achieve passing speed, you have to be willing to rev it hard and downshift. The narrow wheel base and tall stance result in sloppy handling, and the light weight and engine position make it unstable in snowbelt conditions. Additionally, the soundproofing is minimal, and long highway rides can be noisy and tedious. For what it's worth, I bought it new and it lasted 4 years and 36k miles before I sold it.

171,000 miles. It's a shame that the front wheel bearings had to be replaced three times and the rear bearings once, but everything else on the car is still original. Out of the six cars I've owned, this is the first one that has had any wheel bearing issues. I'm currently in the market for a new small car, but I won't even consider the 2012 Toyota Yaris since I don't want to deal with any more wheel bearing problems.
