The Ram pickup (marketed as the Dodge Ram until 2010) is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by Stellantis North America (formerly Chrysler Group LLC and FCA US LLC) and marketed from 2010 onwards under the Ram Trucks brand. The current fifth-generation Ram debuted at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, in January of that year.

Previously, Ram was part of the Dodge line of light trucks. The name Ram was first used in 1981 model year Dodge Trucks in October 1980, following the retiring and rebadging of the Dodge D series pickup trucks as well as B-series vans, though the company had used a ram's-head hood ornament on some trucks as early as 1933.

Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year eight times; the second-generation Ram won the award in 1994, the third-generation Ram heavy-duty won the award in 2003, the fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010 and the fourth-generation Ram 1500 won in 2013 and 2014, and the current fifth-generation Ram pickup became the first truck in history to win the award three times, winning in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

The 2022 Ram 1500 is a highly-rated full-size truck, but it still has potential issues to consider. One of the most common complaints is about the exhaust manifolds warping due to heat. This issue causes the bolts to break, which can lead to serious problems. This issue has been plaguing owners for years, and it seems to be a reoccurring problem. A special tool has been made to address this issue, and the exhaust manifold is covered under the Powertrain Limited Warranty.

Another significant issue is reports of power loss while driving. There have also been reports of power steering problems. There are multiple reports of the power steering getting stuck in the 11 o'clock position or not working at all. However, this issue seems to be related to the 2019 model and older options. Stallantis has issued a recall for the 2019 Ram 1500 due to a power steering fault. A defective battery ground circuit fastener was causing power steering loss. This problem seems to have been corrected.

The 2022 Ram 1500 has an above-average reliability rating from Repair Pal. It currently ranks in fourth place on the list of most reliable trucks, which includes 17 options. The 1500 should make it to 300,000 miles with proper care and maintenance. Some drivers have surpassed 350,000 miles with their trucks. It should provide about 20 years of service on the road if you drive about 15,000 miles per year. Also, it has an annual average repair cost of $692. Fullsize trucks typically cost about $963 to repair every year, so it could provide savings compared to other options.

Summary: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Ram 1500 Classic vehicles equipped with heated trailer tow rearview mirrors. The mirror glass may detach from the driver's side heated trailer tow rearview mirror. As such these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Consequence: Detached mirror glass can reduce driver visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the mirror glass, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 5, 2024. Owners may contact FCA Customer Service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is 86B.

Summary: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2019, 2021-2024 Ram 1500 vehicles. Due to a software malfunction, the anti-lock brake system (ABS) control module may disable the electronic stability control system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
Consequence: Driving with a disabled electronic stability control system can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the ABS control module software, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed October 10, 2024. Some owner notification letters were mailed September 26, 2024. The remaining owner notification letters will be mailed at a future date. Summary: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling one 2022 Ram 1500 Classic vehicle. The wiring harness may short circuit and prevent the rearview image from displaying. As such, this vehicle fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Consequence: A rearview camera image that does not display decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Consequence: Fuel pump failure can result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

The trailer reverse steering control module (TRSCM) may prevent the rearview image from displaying when the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Consequence: A rearview image that does not display while in reverse decreases the driver's visibility of the rear view, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

Consequence: A seat belt with pretensioner failure may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
