Common 2023 Porsche Panamera problems

The Porsche Panamera is a luxury vehicle that has been praised for its high-performance and luxurious experience. However, like any vehicle, it is not immune to certain problems. Here are some common issues that Porsche Panamera owners have reported, based on the search results provided:

  • PCM (Powertrain Control Module) Issues: The Panamera's PCM has been known to have problems, including loss of certain features or strange behavior. In some cases, replacement of the PCM is the only option, although some third parties offer repair services. A Ctrl Alt Del reset can sometimes resolve the issue, but it will result in the loss of all personal settings.
  • Camshaft Adjuster Bolt Problems: The V8 engine in the Panamera has adjustable cam timing systems on the end of each camshaft. The timing chain drives the adjuster, which varies the position and rotation of the cam based on engine performance demands. The adjuster is bolted to the end of the camshaft, and the bolts holding the adjuster to the camshaft can break, leading to a loss of timing on the specific camshaft and rough engine running. This can set a check engine light and fault codes for multiple items, including camshaft position sensor, misfires, and cam-to-crank timing faults.
  • Coolant Leaks: The early V8 Panameras had a series of coolant pipes that were glued into their housings. Over time, the seal begins to fail, and coolant leaks out. There are two likely spots for this to occur: the front of the engine or the rear of the engine close to the transmission. The leak at the front of the engine is from the upper front coolant pipe, which slips out of its housing when the glue fails. Porsche revised the design of the replacement part to be bolt-in, so the problem should not return. This issue is common and typically runs about $500 in parts.
  • Transmission Issues: The first-generation Panamera could experience transmission problems, such as rough shifting.
  • Electronic Malfunctions: Issues with electronic systems, including PCM, navigation, and entertainment features, have been a cause for concern in the Panamera.
  • Rear Axle Anti-roll Bar Issues: Porsche recalled 197 Panameras over concerns about the connecting links on the rear axle anti-roll bar. The issue can lead to excessive noise and an activated yellow warning light. On the affected vehicles, it is possible that the screw connection of the seat belt mount to the rear left and/or right seat was not carried out by the specifications. On affected vehicles, there is a possibility of humidity ingress into the control unit for the auxiliary pump of the climate control system. This can cause malfunctions which can lead to short circuits and a risk of smouldering fire. Activation of the AUTO-REST button can lead to fire damage even after the vehicle has been parked.

It is worth noting that many of these issues have been rectified in the later models, and they are often considered minor compared to the overall performance and luxury offered by the vehicle. Like any premium vehicle, the Porsche Panamera requires an investment in care to maintain its peak performance and reliability.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-07-20
  • VIN: WP0CH2A75PL
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: A message appeared on the dashboard indicating a "Critical Electrical Failure" and "Park Safely" when I turned the key to start the car. This car is a plug-in e-hybrid (my 3rd of this model) and I always assumed that in case of a major failure, I could either use the engine or the electric propulsion system. This was not the case. Although the instruments had power the transmission could not be moved from park and the steering was inoperative. The vehicle was totally immobilized. And the advice to "Park Safely" is ridiculous because there was no way to move the vehicle. Fortunately I was parked when this occurred. But if I was at a traffic light or this happened while I was underway, the safety implications are frightening. The vehicle would have been an immovable obstacle on the roadway. Plus there is not any kind of emergency "neutral" release so the vehicle could at least be pushed. The flatbed tow truck sent by Porsche Connect had to drag the vehicle on to its bed. And if I had not been in a nose in space as I was, even towing would have been nearly impossible.

Negative 2023 Porsche Panamera car reviews

I've owned this car for 9 months and driven 14K miles. While the handling and performance are superb, there have been some issues with the transmission not being able to decide on a gear, and sometimes even reverse gear is unavailable. The electronics have been a bit of a challenge, with warning lights constantly appearing and disappearing like a Christmas tree. The soft touch doors have failed intermittently, and there have been issues with the cruise control and alarm. Additionally, the engine has lost drive when turning and crossing traffic, which could be dangerous. Traction control has also been a bit finicky. Unfortunately, I've had to take the car to the shop 4 times, totaling 18 days without the car. If you're considering buying this car, I would recommend reconsidering as there are other good-looking cars out there that actually work. Personally, I am pursuing this vehicle as a Lemon. Thank you for your understanding.

Hello! I currently own a 2013 Panamara 4 and recently had the opportunity to test drive an '18 S edition. While it's hard to complain about such a well-built car, I did notice a few things that disappointed me when comparing it to my 2013 model. Firstly, the dashboard is higher and the clock impeded my vision. Secondly, the electronic dashboard was difficult to use with gloves on, which can be a problem in NE Ohio. Additionally, the layout is not as intuitive as previous year models, which had Porsche's long-endured one button, one function philosophy. Lastly, the variable ratio power steering did not seem to work. Overall, it's usually the minor things that can disappoint an owner or potential buyer of a $100K+ vehicle. I was surprised at Porsche's lack of attention to detail on this successful model for the car brand. Thank you for listening to my feedback!

The wireless charger has two issues: firstly, the phone's protective cover needs to be removed in order to charge, and secondly, the phone may overheat and shut down after 20 minutes of charging. These issues are unexpected from a brand like Porsche.

Positive 2023 Porsche Panamera car reviews

  1. Ron Blanda 2025-02-11

Hi there! I'm excited to share my experience with the Panamera Turbo S that I received in August 2021. As a car enthusiast, I've owned many cars over the years, including some of the best ones like the 2012 Mercedes CLS550, 2001 BMW Z3, 2004 MB SL500, and the 2018 AMG GTC roadster. Although I've had many MB's and BMW's, this was my first Porsche, and it was a completely new experience for me. After test driving a Maserati and a Bentley Continental, I chose the Panamera because of its impressive features. I've been driving it for nine months now, and I must say it's one of the best driving machines ever made. Just be careful on long trips, or you might pass your destination! :)

This car, mine being a 2020 GTS, is perfect for empty nesters who enjoy taking road trips with their partner. It boasts great looks, comfort, versatility, and performance. While some have noted that the infotainment system lags behind others, it's not a significant issue. The steering in the GTS can be a bit heavy for everyday use, but it could benefit from dual-mode steering effort for around town and sports/highway driving. It's worth noting that I no longer consider the steering to be heavy. The car has an excellent touring range of over 600 miles, and the luggage capacity for two people on a trip with the rear seats down is impressive. Although there was a transient fault with the lane change assist system, my dealership corrected it. My previous cars were a 2006 BMW V-10 M5 and a 2013 Porsche GTS, but this is the best car I have ever owned. As a follow-up, I have now driven over 26,000 miles with no problems encountered. It's superb!

The 2018 Panamera executive is a truly luxurious vehicle, with front and rear massage seats, all seats heated and vented, and a rear seat console that handles audio, climate, and destination controls. It's even spacious enough to carry a Dualtron X with the seats down! Compared to the previous generation Panamera, this car is all about comfort and luxury. I had the pleasure of driving the last generation, and it felt like a 4-person Cayman. It's a huge car, which is why they call it the 'big boss' at the dealership. Unfortunately, my family is growing and I need to upgrade to an SUV. I just sold it back to my dealer, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to have enjoyed this amazing vehicle for nearly 4 years.

  4. Amparo Fay 2024-11-26

I never liked the first Panamera, but the new model is a completely different car. The design and technology are really advanced, and even the base engine is powerful. The car sounds good, and the interior is amazing! My only concern is the transmission. It is not as fast as it should be, and there is also a lot of transmission noise, especially when you come to a stop or when starting from a stop. The shocks are also quite noticeable. Porsche should really work on this!

I used to own a 2011 Panamera 4 and it was a real head-turner, although sometimes for the wrong reasons. The design was a bit polarizing, with some people loving it and others hating the shape and lines of the old Panamera. However, the engineers have really hit the mark this time around - the car is absolutely gorgeous. Everywhere I go, people approach me to compliment the new design. The interior of the new Panamera is just as impressive as the exterior. It's incredibly comfortable, well-appointed, and packed with hi-tech features. The clutter of multiple buttons on both sides of the console is gone, making for a very well-designed and user-friendly interior. I can honestly say that I love everything about this vehicle and wouldn't change a thing. Well done, Porsche engineers!
