2019 Lincoln Nautilus problems

lincoln logo

The Lincoln Nautilus is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV marketed and sold by the Lincoln brand of Ford Motor Company. The Nautilus was initially renamed from the MKX as part of a mid-cycle update in 2018 for the 2019 model year, as Lincoln phased out its use of "MK" model names. The name 'Nautilus' is derived from the ancient Greek word nautes, meaning "sailor," as in nautical or astronaut.

The first generation is based on the CD4 platform, and was manufactured at Oakville Assembly in Oakville, Ontario, Canada alongside the Ford Edge, Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT and manufactured in Hangzhou Assembly in Zhejiang, China by joint venture Changan Ford from 2021 to 2023. The second generation is solely produced by Changan Ford in China, as Ford is retooling the Oakville Assembly plant to produce electric vehicles.

First generation (U540; 2019)

The Lincoln Nautilus was released as the mid-cycle revision of the second-generation MKX in November 2017 for the 2019 model year. Adopting the styling of the newly introduced Continental and Navigator, the Nautilus transitioned from the previous split-wing grille to a large rectangular grille with a large Lincoln star emblem.

The counterpart of the updated Ford Edge, the Nautilus is slotted between the Aviator and the MKC (which was replaced by Corsair for the 2020 model year) in Lincoln's lineup. A 245-horsepower (248 PS; 183 kW) 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline-four is the standard engine, with a 335-horsepower (340 PS; 250 kW) 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 carried over from the MKX as an option; both engines are fitted with start-stop capability. An 8-speed automatic transmission is paired to both engines (replacing the previous 6-speed).

For the 2021 model year, the Nautilus was once again refreshed with a new interior similar to the new Navigator, Aviator, and Corsair, featuring a larger 13.2" touchscreen and Ford's latest SYNC 4 system. Minor changes were also made to the front bumper.

  • VIN: 2LMPJ9JP2KB
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS
  • Summary: Reported to Lincoln over a year ago about DEATH WOBBLE on this vehicle. Have taken to 3 dealerships to have checked out and have not found anything. BUT IT IS STILL HAPPENNING. Have suggested to have an engineer from the company to ride along. Not happening. The keep closing the case. September of last year we were driving through Richmond, Virginia on our way to Florida and, it went into the DEATH WOBBLE at 65mph. Shook so bad it snapped my front hitch system and could not tow the car and had to be trailer towed to a dealership. There are other reports out there on the web of other people having the same issue. Was told at one point it could be my equipment. After it broke my system last September and almost lost the car, my insurance company paid to have car repaired and installed a NEW Blue Ox system and it did it again. This time at slower speed and I was able to control. Told ALL DEALERSHIPS AND LINCOLN howitzer is happening and steering is not going back to zero after I make a turn or hit a bump. No reaction. One dealership told me I should not be towing that car, but the car is set up to be towed, according to owners manual. Repair documentation is with Lincoln and insurance company, with all reports. Have a date of September of last year because that was the big one, but started August of 2023, March of 2024, August of 2024 2 times. Each time reported to Lincoln and taken to shop. Could have been a serious accident if I didn't control the motorhome and car.

Then my AWD Malfunction light came on so I called my husband and we were 5 minutes from dealer ship so we took it there and dropped it off. Monday, I called dealer ship to have them look at it and they told me that my rear differential motor had to be replaced at a cost of $1800 and it was not covered under power train warranty because the part did pop up when it was entered. Car only has 44K miles on it...Waiting on someone from Ford to call back to see why it is not covered.

First sidewall problem occurred on 3/25/2021 when the car had only 6,700 miles on it. That tire was replaced. Tires were maintained and rotated as recommended by dealer. Then on 10/12/2021 when the car had 9,234 miles on it a second original tire cracked on the sidewall near the rim. Two tires failed in the same way in under 10,000 miles. Continental refuses to pro-rate the cost of the new tires or take any responsibility. I have since replaced all 4 tires with a different brand. Since Contintental has a record of recalling tires for sidewall defects in the manufacturing process, and I have no recollection of damaging the tires while on the road, I believe them to be defective.

Negative 2019 Lincoln Nautilus car reviews

  1. Keenan Turcotte 2024-11-21

I waited to get a new Lincoln because I loved my old MKX. However, I have noticed that my Nautilus has more road noise, rides roughly, and the transmission jumps into gear. I am not very happy about it, but I am confident that the dealership will be able to help me resolve these issues.

  2. Hayden Crist 2024-10-14

I noticed that the push button electrical transmission can be a safety hazard and it can be slow to engage. This can be a bit frightening, especially for my wife, when it won't go into Neutral in a car wash. Additionally, I have noticed that the rear outside windows always drip after going through a car wash. I also find that the various controls on the steering wheel are too small and very difficult to read and use. They can be quite confusing. However, I must say that the overall quality of the car seems good. Although, I still don't know how to use many of the electronics and the dash display can be confusing. In my opinion, the car is decent but not very exciting. Lastly, I feel that the car is a bit expensive, but it is of good quality.

  3. Percival Baumbach 2024-09-27

I bought this car in January 2019 and was initially hesitant as it was the first model year. However, the dealership assured me that it was just an MKX with a different body. Unfortunately, six weeks after owning the vehicle, the instrument panel went out when I was 50 miles from home. I had it towed to the dealership, but they couldn't find the problem. The panel continued to go out, and it took Lincoln concierge 8 weeks to find a dealership that could repair it. Fast forward to November 2019, and I experienced another issue while on a trip about 150 miles away. The car shut down in the middle of the interstate, which was a scary experience. Although it restarted 30 minutes later, it died three more times, including once in a construction zone with no pull off. I truly feel lucky to be alive after that experience. I took the car to the dealership, and although they had it for two weeks, they told me I had nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, on December 28, it died while driving for the fourth time and wouldn't restart. It took Lincoln roadside six hours to get a tow truck to the vehicle, and 11 days later, I still don't have an update on the vehicle or a loaner car. I paid $65,000 for this car, and it's disappointing that I have to pay more for a rental car because of a faulty vehicle. I only have 30,000 miles on it and bought it brand new, so I'm disappointed with the safety issues.

  4. Kaden Ullrich 2024-09-24

It's unfortunate that this car didn't live up to expectations. While it has some nice comfort features, the transmission can be unreliable and the engine is underpowered and noisy for its price point. Some customers may have preferred if Lincoln had kept the six cylinder. Additionally, while the ride is comfortable and quiet, the handling may be too soft for some drivers. It can feel like the whole front end rolls over when making turns. Finally, the price point may be a bit too high for some customers.

  5. Braeden Reilly 2024-08-03

A luxury brand should not have its interior falling apart within days of purchase. Unfortunately, my 2019 Lincoln Nautilus has had multiple issues with popped off panels, falling pillars, and rattling that even the stereo cannot drown out. Additionally, the black leather interior has fade spots and the carpet is pulling away. While the transmission shift can feel like a clown car at times, I am confident that these issues can be resolved with the right attention and care.

Positive 2019 Lincoln Nautilus car reviews

We've had our Reserve 2.7L AWD for six weeks now, and we couldn't be happier with it! It has all the options we wanted, except for the Ultimate and Lincoln Play. Recently, we took it on a 500-mile trip to western Colorado and back, crossing the continental divide (10,000'+ mt. passes). We towed a boat trailer weighing just over 3000 lb. and had our luggage and two E-bikes in the back. The car handled the load with ease, and we were able to drive up the mountain at any safe speed we chose. The Nautilus is incredibly quiet, even more so than our other two vehicles, a Jag XF and an Alfa Romeo Giulia (which replaced an Audi and a BMW, respectively). We absolutely love the massaging 22-way seats, which we used on our highway trip. They really work wonders! The backup camera is also a great feature, allowing me to position our receiver hitch right at the trailer ball when hooking up the trailer. The safety features are top-notch, keeping us informed without being intrusive. During our first 1000 miles of suburban driving, we got about 20-21 MPG. We are extremely pleased with our purchase, and everything appears to be functioning flawlessly. Update: Now at 14 months, we continue to be exceptionally pleased with the Nautilus. We recently completed a 3000-mile trip carrying our e-bikes on a receiver bike rack. We had a chance to use the cruise control, which not only controls speed but also steers the car around curves (without letting you take your hands off the wheel) and manages braking when needed. We love the car! That 2.7 engine has all the power you need. We were running on highways with 80 mph speed limits, and even at that speed, if you touch the accelerator, you can quickly be in triple digits. The Nautilus is quiet, smooth, and powerful. With our trailer hitch and optional roof rack, it is also quite functional. We are now at 17K miles, and the Nautilus continues to impress. What can I say further? It does everything right! We even drove through heavy snowfall this week, and it was like we were looking out the window of our home.Inside the vehicle, it was warm and comfortable, tracking well, while outside the snow swirled and the traffic stalled. We recently traded in our Jag XF for a 2020 Audi SQ5, which is a bit of an SUV sportscar, but the Nautilus has more comfort features and more capacity. Both are excellent choices. We continue to really enjoy this vehicle, now at 25,000 miles. We drove to Washington, DC, and back averaging about 600 miles per day (about 8 hours driving) because all the safety features made driving so effortless. Although the pushbutton shifter is still not my favorite, I preferred the rotary dial on our Jag. At 33,000 miles, the Nautilus continues to be flawless. We drove it on a 5,000-mile trip to the East Coast (DC, VA, NC, SC, GA, Fl) from Colorado. It was solid, comfortable, and responsive. Initially, we leased it, thinking that we may want to get an EV later, but now we have paid off the residual payoff amount and it's a keeper. At 35,000 miles, our Nautilus (2.7L V6) continues to please us. We have had zero problems, and the servicing dealership has been responsive. We recently drove it to Aspen and back through the mountains in winter. It is our chosen vehicle for long-distance trips. In contrast, we consider our Audi SQ5 to be a 'shopping sports car'. At 39,000 miles, our Nautilus has proven to be a trouble-free vehicle. You press the start button, and it's there at your service. Yesterday, I used it to haul lumber. It will fit planks up to not-quite-eleven feet inside without the roof rack.

Compare similar makes before making your choice. We were sold on this one, hands down!

Ideal for a retired couple, but maybe not the best fit for a young, growing family. It's comfortable to use, and you can expect courteous service from the dealer for routine or other maintenance. The safety features are reliable, and the appearance is not too flashy. It's a rare combination.

I leased my first MKX in 2012 and have since leased three more, finally upgrading to the new 2019 Nautilus. I must say, I really enjoy trying out new cars, but I don't drive much. The Nautilus has many pros, including easy entry and exit, a comfortable seat, a nice ride, and great mileage (about 24 overall). It's also a good-looking SUV, and Lincoln service even picks up and delivers for an oil change. The only con I have is the push-button transmission selection, which has too many buttons in that area. I also dislike the button I have to push to keep the engine shutting off every time I stop and start up again. If I couldn't shut that feature off, it would be a deal breaker for me on another Lincoln lease. Other luxury SUVs like Cadillac and Audi get way too pricey way too fast for the same features. So, when the time comes, I will probably lease my sixth Lincoln. Additionally, I lease a 2019 Mustang Ecoboost Convertible for summertime use, which surprisingly has more driver leg room than the Nautilus. In my opinion, the Nautilus is just as good as any other luxury SUV.

Your car seems to be a great choice! It has a comfortable and quiet ride, many safety features, and excellent lighting. Although you had a small issue with the transmission slamming into drive from park or neutral, it was completely solved by a software update. The screen also froze a couple of times, but it was easily fixed by turning off the car and letting the system reboot. The car you purchased had all the bells and whistles except for 4 wheel drive, but the larger 2.7 engine is a hoot to drive. However, you need to be careful with the torque when getting on it at slower speeds, as it can take the steering wheel away from you. Overall, it sounds like you made a great choice with your car!
