2009 Pontiac Solstice problems

pontiac logo

The Pontiac Solstice is a sports car that was produced by Pontiac. Introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show, the Solstice roadster began production in Wilmington, Delaware, starting in mid-2005 for the 2006 model year. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4 L I4 engine, producing 177 hp (132 kW) and 166 lb⋅ft (225 N⋅m) of torque. The exterior styling of the production Solstice is similar to that of the 2002 Solstice concept that preceded it. Production of the Solstice was to be running before summer 2005, but delays at the Wilmington plant pushed volume production to the fourth quarter. The new hardtop targa top 2009 model was announced in mid-2008. The Solstice uses the GM Kappa platform, which also underpins the Saturn Sky, Opel GT, and Daewoo G2X. It was the brand's first two-seater since the Pontiac Fiero was discontinued in 1988.

The Solstice was nominated for the North American Car of the Year award and Design of the Year award from the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) for 2006. It was a runaway hit for Pontiac, with 7,000 orders in the first 10 days of availability and 6,000 more orders before winter. Although first-year production was planned at 7,000, GM apologized to customers for delays and increased production, delivering 10,000 by March 1.

Following the 2008 economic recession, GM discontinued the Pontiac division. Production ended with the closure of the Wilmington Assembly plant in July 2009.

Common 2009 Pontiac Solstice problems

The Pontiac Solstice, a compact sports car produced between 2006 and 2010, has garnered a reputation for certain common issues that have been reported by owners.

One of the most frequently reported problems is the need to flush the brake fluid every 60,000 miles, which is a preventive maintenance issue but still a significant concern for Solstice owners. This issue has been reported by one owner, indicating that it may be a common maintenance requirement for the vehicle.

Another common problem with the Pontiac Solstice is related to its airbags and seat belts. The worst problem category for the Solstice is seat belts/airbags, with the 2007 model year experiencing the most issues. This issue can be a significant safety concern and may require professional repair.

The Solstice's interior design and materials have also been criticized by some owners. The interior design would be attractive if not for an abundance of hard plastic, which is a telltale sign of the Solstice's low price point.

The Solstice's antilock braking system (ABS) has also been criticized for sometimes being abrupt and jerky in action, which can be a significant safety concern and may require professional repair.

Finally, the Solstice's battery placement is another issue that has been reported by some owners. To replace the battery, you'll have to jack it up and remove the inner fender to access the battery, which can be inconvenient and time-consuming.

In summary, the Pontiac Solstice has several common issues that have been reported by owners, including the need for preventive maintenance, airbag/seatbelt problems, interior design and materials issues, ABS problems, and battery placement issues. These issues may require professional repair and can be significant safety concerns for Solstice owners.

What is the biggest problem with the Pontiac Solstice?

Wide spacing between the gear ratios in the five-speed manual is a major flaw. The turbocharged GXP model is considerably more enjoyable to drive. Handling is fairly nimble and the ride is tolerable, but wind noise is apparent even at modest speeds. Antilock brakes were optional.

How many miles will a Pontiac Solstice last?

may need to be replaced but again the motor if taken care of should be fine . There have been many examples of NAs going strong at 250,000 miles. It appears that a well maintained 2.4 that is not abused can last nearly forever.

Are Pontiac Solstice expensive to maintain?

Pontiac Solstice Repair: Service and Maintenance Cost. The annual maintenance cost of a Pontiac Solstice is $486.

Why did they stop making Pontiac Solstice?

Its death came during GM's bankruptcy, which saw the end of Hummer, Saturn, and Pontiac brands altogether. Specifically, the selling of GM's Wilmington Assembly plant in Delaware to Fisker Automotive was the nail in the coffin for the Solstice and its corporate twin, the Saturn Sky.

Is the 2009 Pontiac Solstice a good car?

Edmunds says. The 2009 Pontiac Solstice combines head-turning styling and respectable performance at an attractive price. But when it comes to refinement, the Solstice is bested by aesthetically less glamorous rivals.

Is a Solstice a reliable car?

The Solstice (or Sky) is as reliable as any other GM vehicle mechanically, because that is really what it is. I will tell you from experience with an '03 Saab that it will be more reliable than what you are used to. The GXP's turbo 2.0 was GM's first direct-injection gasoline engine.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-09-01
  • VIN: 1G2MN35B19Y
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND IS ALWAYS ON. DRIVER INFO DISPLAY INDICATES "SERVICE AIRBAG" EVERY TIME I START THE CAR. PPS MAT RECALL HAS ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED. THE REINFORCEMENT REPAIR HAS FAILED. THE EXACT SAME PPS MAT IS USED ON THE CADILLAC CTS, AND THE RECALL FOR THAT WAS TO REPLACE THE SENSOR BECAUSE IT WAS DETERMINED THE MATERIAL MAY FATIGUE AND CRACK. THUS IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE PPS MAT AND THEREFORE SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED, NOT REPAIRED IN THE SOLSTICE/SKY. A TAPE-ON REINFORCEMENT STRIP IS NOT SUFFICIENT.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-08-12
  • VIN: 1G2MN35B19Y
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT ALWAYS ON. DRIVER INFO DISPLAY ALWAYS INDICATES "SERVICE AIRBAG" (WITH ALERT TONE) EVERY TIME I START THE CAR. I BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED RECALL 17V061000 FOR FAILURES IN THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR PPS MAT. SOLSTICE REPAIR WAS ADDED REINFORCED TAPE. CTS REPAIR FOR SAME ISSUE WAS TO REPLACE THE SENSOR. MANY SOLSTICE/SKY OWNERS ARE COMPLAINING THE RECALL REPAIR JOB FAILED A YEAR AFTER THE FIX, RESULTING IN NEED TO REPLACE THE SENSOR MAT. AS THE PPS MAT IS AN FMVSS MANDATED SAFETY FEATURE, IT SHOULD BE [AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN] REPLACED ENTIRELY, NOT JUST REPAIRED WITH REINFORCED TAPE. GM INDICATES THE RECALL REPAIR WAS ALREADY PERFORMED, SO I WILL HAVE TO PAY NEARLY $800 TO HAVE THE SENSOR REPLACED IN ORDER TO CLEAR THE FAILURE INDICATORS. THIS IS UNREASONABLE. ONE CANNOT EXPECT REINFORCED TAPE TO PREVENT AN UNKNOWN FATIGUE CONDITION ON AN 8-10 YEAR OLD SENSOR. REPLACEMENT WITH A DIFFERENT DESIGN AS IN THE CTS IS THE ONLY CERTAIN SOLUTION AND NHSTA SHOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED GM TO USE REINFORCED TAPE.

SEATS PROBLEM

  • VIN: 1G2MT25X89Y
  • Components: SEATS
  • Summary: ALMOST 36K MILES AND THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT APPEARED ON MY DASH WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WITH A PARTNER (ADULT OVER 150 LBS) AND THE PASSENGER AIR BAG TURNED OFF, I WENT OUT OF THE HIGHWAY FOR HIS SAFETY AND DRIVE SLOWER OUR WAY BACK TO WORK, BUT SUDDENDLY HE KIND OF ACCOMODATE HIMSELF ON THE SEAT AND THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT DISAPPERED, SO I ASKED HIM TO MOVE/CHANGE HIS SITTING POSITION ON THE SEAT AND THIS WAY THE LIGHT RETURNED AND THEN DISAPPEARD WHEN HE CHANGED RANDOMLY HIS WEIGHT OVER THE SEAT. RIGHT NOW THE LIGHT IS PERMANENT ON MY DASHBOARD NO MARE THER IS NO WEIGHT ON THE PASSENGER SIT OR SOMEONE OVER 150 POUNDS SITS AND CHANGES SITTING POSITION. MY CAR ATTENDED THE RECALL 17036 AUG 2018 AT THAT TIME THE PROBLEM WAS NOT PRESENT ON MY PPS SO THEY PROCEED TO MAKE THE REINFORCEMENT, BUT NOW IT APPEARED THE DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE ME THE DIAGNOSTIC AND IF THE PPS IS THE FAILURE (AS IT SEEMS TO BE); THE PPS COST, AS IS OVER A YEAR SINCE THE RECALL WAS ATTENDED AND THE PART IS OUT OF WARRANTY.

IN AUGUST, 2016 I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH AND A "SERVICE AIR BAG" MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED. I TOOK THE CAR TO AUTONATION CHEVROLET DEALER IN PEORIA, AZ FOR REPAIR. I WAS TOLD THE AIR BAG WAS NOT COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND CHARGED $89.95 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THEY SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I CALLED THE GM HOTLINE ON AUGUST 27, 2016 TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. IT TOOK 4 CALLS FOR ME TO FINALLY GET A RESPONSE FROM BRENDALIN (NO LAST NAME GIVEN). SHE TOLD BE THEY COULD DO NOTHING. CASE #8-233933284 IN MARCH, 2017 AND IN MAY, 2017 I RECEIVED LETTERS FROM GM SAYING THE CAR HAD AN AIR BAG PROBLEM AND WAS SUBJECT TO A RECALL. IT TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO A GM DEALER FOR REPAIRS AT NO COST TO ME. I TOOK THE CAR TO RICE MOTORS, 1306 WEST MAIN, CARMI, IL 62821. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO RICE MOTORS 6 TIMES, THE LAST TIME ON APRIL 12, 2018. EACH TIME THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME AND THE WARNING LIGHT AND MESSAGE WOULD RE-APPEAR WITHING A FEW MILES OF DRIVING. ON APRIL 21, 2018 THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME WITH THE ASSURANCE FROM RICE MOTORS THAT IT HAD BEEN REPAIRED. THE THIRD TIME THAT I DROVE IT (ON MAY 5, 2018) THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WITH THE SAME SERVICE AIR BAG MESSAGE ON THE DASH. ON APRIL 9, 2018 I CALLED THE GM HOTLINE AND WAS REFERRED TO MICHAEL (PHONE NO. 866.790.5600 EXT 5924164). • Summary: THE PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG WEIGHT SENSOR HAS FAILED ON MY SOLSTICE. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS NOT CURRENTLY FUNCTIONAL DUE TO THIS ISSUE. THIS ISSUE IS EFFECTING EVERY SINGLE SOLSTICE AND SKY BUILT BY GM FROM 2006-2010. THE DEALERSHIPS ARE CHARGING NEARLY $1,000 TO REPLACE THE SENSORS ON THESE CARS AND MOST CUSTOMERS ARE CHOOSING NOT TO REPLACE THEM DUE TO HIGH COST. THE SAME ISSUE WAS RECALLED ON CADILLAC CTS MODELS BUILT IN THE SAME TIME PERIOD. THE PART WAS MANUFACTURED BY THE SAME COMPANY INVOLVED IN THE CADILLAC RECALL. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. IF IT HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN THE CAUSE OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH; IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. THE NEGLIGENCE OF THESE AUTO COMPANIES NEEDS TO STOP. THIS IS A 100% EFFECTED ISSUE, WHERE EVERY ONE OF THESE CARS WILL EXPERIENCE THIS FAILURE. THAT WOULD MEAN THERE ARE POTENTIALLY 100,000 VEHICLES DRIVING AROUND WITHOUT FUNCTIONAL PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSORS. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS AND HOLE THESE CRIMINALS ACCOUNTABLE. *TR

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-10-13
  • VIN: 1G2MN35B69Y
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
  • Summary: MY SOLSTICE IS PART OF THE IGNITION RECALL ID # 102546 - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH. DURING THE REPAIR OF THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED OCT 13 2014.AND AFTER THE CAR WAS BROUGHT OUT TO ME I NOTICED THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT HAD CAME ON. I NOTIFIED THE DEALER THAT THE LIGHT WAS ON THEY RAN A DIAGNOSES AND DETERMINED THAT THE AIRBAG SENSOR GM MODULE KIT HAD FAILED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THAT NEITHER SIDE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY SHOULD I HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I'M TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT WILL COST ME $900 TO REPLACE PART NUMBER 19124219. MY RESPONSE WAS THAT I WOULD BE CONTACT GM ABOUT THIS AS IT WAS NOT AN ISSUE BEFORE THE REPAIR OF THE IGNITION RECALL. AFTER CONTACTING GM THEY CONTACTED THE DEALER AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO PAY A PART OF THE COST, HOW MUCH I WAS NEVER TOLD. AS WITH OTHERS THAT HAVE REPORT THE SAME PROBLEM, MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE FAULTY IGNITION HAS A DIRECT AFFECT ON THE PROPER OPERATION AND SAFETY OF THE AIRBAGS. NOT TO MENTION THAT IT WILL NOT PASS A STATE INSPECTION UNTIL THIS IS REPAIRED. HAD I NOT BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR THE FAULTY IGNITION I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET IT INSPECTED AND BEEN ABLE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT. AS OF NOW IF I DON'T PAY THE FEE FOR THIS REPAIR THE VEHICLE IS RENDERED USELESS AND UNSAFE. AND MY INVESTMENT IS WORTHLESS EXCEPT FOR PARTS I FEEL GM SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FAULTY SENSOR AT THEIR COST. I HAVE READ IN SEVERAL FORUMS THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THAT SOMETHING AS EASY AS PLACING A KNEE ON THE SEAT CAN CAUSE THE SENSOR TO FAIL THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND GM NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY! *TR

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-08-01
  • VIN: 1G2MN35B69Y
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
  • Summary: MY SOLSTICE IS PART OF THE IGNITION RECALL. PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT HAS BEEN ON SINCE AUG. 2014. IGNITION REPLACED TODAY 10/8/14. DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT I HAVE A FAULTY AIRBAG SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THAT NEITHER SIDE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY SHOULD I HAVE AN ACCIDENT. FIRST I'M TOLD IT WILL COST ME $800 TO REPLACE. MY RESPONSE WAS THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTING GMC ABOUT THIS. THEN I'M TOLD TO HOLD OFF THAT THEY WOULD PUT THEIR "GMC CALCULATOR" ON IT AND LET ME KNOW WHAT GMC SAYS. A FEW MINUTES LATER I GET A CALL SAYING THAT GMC WOULD COVER $500 OF THE $800 CHARGE. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE FAULTY IGNITION HAS A DIRECT AFFECT ON THE PROPER OPERATION OF THE AIRBAGS. THIS CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD. IN 2010 I HAD TO HAVE THE IGNITION REPLACED "WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY" BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDN'T TURN OFF AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION TO OFF. THE SECOND FAULTY IGNITION HAS NOW AFFECTED THE SAFE OPERATION OF MY AIRBAGS WHICH, SHOULD I HAVE AN ACCIDENT, THE DRIVER AIRBAG WILL NOT EVEN OPEN. I FEEL GMC SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FAULTY SENSOR. SHOULD SOMETHING HAPPEN TO ME BEFORE THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED, I HAVE ESCALATED THIS INFORMATION TO MY FAMILY AND LEGAL COUNSEL. *TR

  • Summary: UCI-FRAM Group is recalling certain LS1328 ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1328, Duralast LS1328, Airtex 1S6097, and Carquest 53-27479, and LS1497 Ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1497, Duralast LS1497, Airtex 1S10961, and Carquest 53-27967, for use on various General Motors model and model year vehicles during repair and replacement of the original ignition switch. The weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the affected ignition switches to move out of the run position, turning off the engine and disabling the air bags.
  • Consequence: If the ignition switch moves from the run position to accessory, the car would stall and the air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury to the occupants.
  • Remedy: UCI-FRAM Group has notified its purchasers to quarantine and return all inventory. Any switches already installed in vehicles will be replaced by GM dealers as part of NHTSA recall 14V-047, free of charge. UCI-Fram's purchasers should contact UCI-FRAM Group at 1-800-890-2075. GM vehicle owners requiring additional information on that recall campaign should contact GM at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac) or 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn).
2014-04-10
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR, 2007-2010 Pontiac G5, 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice, 2003-2007 Saturn Ion, and 2007-2010 Saturn Sky vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "Off" position.
  • Consequence: If the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "off" position, the vehicle could roll away: (a) for an automatic transmission, if the transmission is not in the "Park" position; or (b) for a manual transmission, if the parking brake is not engaged and the transmission is not in the "Reverse" position. This potential for rollaway increases the risk for a crash and occupant or pedestrian injuries.
  • Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and for vehicles that were built with the defective ignition cylinder and have not previously had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will replace the ignition cylinder and cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. For vehicles that were built with the redesigned ignition cylinder or had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac owners at 1-800-762-2737, and Saturn owners at 1-800-553-6000. General Motors' number for this recall is 14113 for the ignition lock cylinder and key replacement, and 14133 for only key replacements. Note: Until a vehicle has been remedied, owners and operators are advised that when exiting, to be sure that the vehicle is in "Park," or in the case of a manual transmission, that the vehicle is in the "Reverse" position and the parking brake is engaged.

  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on February 10, 2014 that they are recalling 619,122 model year 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, and 2007 Pontiac G5 vehicles. On February 25, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 748,024 model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet HHR and Pontiac Solstice vehicles and 2003-2007 Saturn Ion vehicles and 2007 Saturn Sky vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine. On March 27, 2014, GM notified the agency that the defective ignition switches may have been used as service replacement parts on other vehicles, and as a result GM will be recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Sky, and Pontiac G5 and Solstice, and 2008-2011 Chevrolet HHR vehicles. The part numbers for the service parts are 10392423 (a/k/a ACDelco D1461F), 10392737, 15857948, 15854953, 15896640, and 25846762. This expansion represents an additional 823,788 vehicles.
  • Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. An interim notification was issued to owners of 2007 and earlier models on March 10, 2014, informing them of the safety defect. Owners of 2008 and later vehicles will be mailed an interim letter on April 21, 2014. All affected owners will receive another letter once parts are available. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac at 1-800-762-2737 or Saturn at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for the initial recall is 13454 and 14063 for the expansion. GM’s recall number for the vehicles that may have received the replacement parts is 14092. Note: Until the recall repairs have been performed, it is very important that customers remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the vehicle key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. Always wear your seatbelt.

Negative 2009 Pontiac Solstice car reviews

Although there have been some issues with my car, I have gained a lot of experience in dealing with them. The camshaft sensor problem was fixed after three visits to the shop. The car has a turbo and is fairly quick, but the power delivery could be smoother. The clutch is a bit quirky with a notchy shift linkage, but it is manageable. The car looks great and has good fuel economy on the highway. However, the interior could be better and the top execution could be improved. Overall, I have learned a lot from owning this car and I am confident in my ability to handle any issues that may arise.

Hey there! Congrats on your new ride! I noticed that you mentioned a few things that could be improved, like the interior materials not being up to par with the MX-5 and the clunky manual gearbox. But despite those minor drawbacks, it sounds like you're having a blast driving it! Plus, it's definitely turning heads and getting lots of attention from admirers. Enjoy the ride!

I drove this car for two years and unfortunately had to take it back to the dealer multiple times due to various leaks. Compared to my Miata, it didn't handle as well and felt poorly and cheaply constructed. After two years, I realized that this car wasn't reliable for the long haul, so I decided to sell it. I ended up purchasing a Honda Civic, which has been solid and reliable, with much better mileage. It also handles more like a sports car than the Solstice did. I would recommend staying away from the Solstice, but I'm happy with my new car!

I noticed the 08 on the road and decided to do some research before getting it. The back cup holder is fine, but the driver side holder could use some improvement. The plastic looks a bit fragile and the airbag light on the dash is too obvious. However, the auto transmission works great and shifts smoothly. Adding a chrome grille would really give it a classy look. It would be nice to have a removable luggage rack for the back and perhaps some netting to hold odd and ends. The mirrors are a bit small, but the sound system with 6 deck CD is really good. Although, I made a mistake by getting it for my wife, I'll put the SUV away until winter.

When my father suggested I buy an S2000 and my brother recommended a Miata, I decided to go with my Solstice. I absolutely love driving it with the top down and cruising around town. It's a beautiful, sporty car that's roomy enough for my needs and always turns heads. While some car critics may complain about the lack of space, interior styling, and power and handling, I couldn't disagree more. I'm fully satisfied with my purchase, especially considering the great deal I got with rebates and employee pricing. I even plan on buying the coupe version for my wife. The top is incredibly easy to use, taking me only 10 seconds to lower and 8 seconds to put back up. I challenge anyone with an automatic top to beat that!

  3. Judah Gleason 2024-10-29

It may not be the fastest, but it handles exceptionally well with a classic point-and-shoot philosophy. From the somewhat cramped cockpit, you can look out over the long hood and sense that you're about to drive something special. Although the 2.4 is a little wheezy, if you row the gears quickly, hold the gear till 6000 rpm's and change with purpose, you'll be doing 60 in under 7 seconds. It loves back roads, and with the little side windows up, it's not too noisy either. Once you understand the wonkiness of the convertible top operation, it all makes perfect sense, and putting the top down gives the car a great line and a completely different look than with the top up! I've had mine for almost a year, and it's been very well maintained with low miles, and it needed nothing. You'd never guess it's 10 years old!

I've been in love with this car for months before the first '06 ever hit the road. It was the day before I was to pick up a pre-owned 2008 G6 GT I had just purchased when I was told I just received a pretty substantial pay raise. That was great news, it was finally my time!! Four days later, I was driving home my Brazen colored Solstice. I absolutely love this car. It's incredibly sexy and, in my opinion, blows the Sky away in the looks department. It's an absolute blast to drive and never fails to turn heads. My only regret is that I purchased it with only a couple of months of driving days left before it gets put up for the winter. That's okay though - between employee pricing and end of season blowout, they knocked $5k off the MSRP - what a steal!

When choosing a piece of art to hang on your living room wall, you don't ask if it fits in the corner. Similarly, when listening to Sinatra sing, you don't question whether you're hearing it correctly. It just happens. So, when I settled into my new (old, 2009 cherry red Pontiac convertible solstice Gxp) hip snug touring machine, it was all about the feeling rather than the unimpressive plastics. It was more Sinatra than Hendrix. Even on the twisty roads, it looked better than the better handling Miatas, and that was perfectly fine with me.
