2001 Pontiac Bonneville problems
The Pontiac Bonneville is a model line of full-size or mid-size front-engine rear drive cars manufactured and marketed by Pontiac from 1957 until 2005, with a hiatus for model years 1982-1986.
The Bonneville (marketed as the Parisienne in Canada until 1981), and its platform partner, the Grand Ville, are some of the largest Pontiacs ever built; in station wagon body styles they reached just over 230 inches (5.8 m) long, and at 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) and more were also some of the heaviest cars produced at the time.
The Bonneville nameplate was introduced as a limited production performance convertible during the 1957 model year, its name taken from the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah — an early site of US auto racing and numerous world's land speed record records, itself named after U.S. Army officer Benjamin Bonneville.

Pontiac is the spirited style division of GM and this car really shows it! If you're a fan of spirited performance and stylish design, you'll love the SSEi. The red glow of the cluster is on par with my BMW 540i and the interior offers plenty of room for the family. While the MPG falls off a bit when dipping into the supercharger around town, I still manage to get over 27 MPG when going 75ish on the interstate. All in all, I wouldn't give up my BMW for it, but when I considered the bang for the buck factor, I bought and absolutely love it. Another great alternative is the Buick Park Ave ULTRA. It has the same power train, but a more laid back design.

I recently purchased the brand new Bonnie over an Infiniti I30. While the car rides perfectly and has lots of bells and whistles, I have experienced some issues with squeaks from the door and a slight rattle in the dash. These issues are unexpected from a car that costs over 34K. Unfortunately, I have had to take it to the shop three times in the first three months of ownership. I even experienced water leaking into the trunk area during rain, which was caused by the factory not drilling drain holes into the trunk lid. Although the alternator was also faulty after only two months, the squeaks and rattles in the door and dash still persist after two trips to the shop. Overall, I find this to be a very typical GM car, plagued with squeaks and rattles.

I'm glad to hear that you've been enjoying your car! It's great to know that it gets good gas mileage. I understand that as a used car, it may have some minor mechanical issues, but that's to be expected. It's good to hear that you're willing to invest in keeping it running smoothly. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Your engine sounds impressive! It has a lot of power and has been running smoothly with no oil use between changes. Although the plastic intake manifold cracked at 70,000 miles, which did not happen in your 1989 Bonneville Series One 3.8 liter engine, which had an iron manifold. The only other maintenance required was front wheel bearings at 140,000 miles, and now the transmission is slipping at 147,000 miles. The experienced mechanic who mostly works on transmissions says that the clutches usually go out at about 125,000 miles. It's unfortunate that GM ended the line, but it sounds like you have taken great care of your car!

I purchased this car used with low mileage and initially enjoyed the power and pep of the engine. Unfortunately, within just over 30 days, both back window motors stopped working simultaneously. Additionally, the gas and oil gauges malfunctioned, the gas compartment hinge became stuck frequently, and I had to frequently replace the headlights and taillights. The trunk also leaked, and the transmission began shifting hard. I experienced issues with the front end alignment, which caused me to replace the tires more often than expected. I had to replace the front CV joint/axle twice, and the constant warning ringing sound due to the gas gauge malfunction was quite bothersome. Overall, I was disappointed with the car's performance.

I have experienced some issues with dependability. The brakes had to be replaced at 35,000 miles, which is mostly highway driving. Additionally, the steering rack had to be replaced at 44,000 miles, and unfortunately, GM did not offer much assistance. There is a TSB on the steering shaft, but the service is only performed if you are aware of it. Lastly, the rear rotors failed at 44,000 miles. Despite these issues, I still love driving the car. However, I do believe that GM needs to improve the quality. Lastly, the sunroof had to be repaired twice and eventually replaced altogether.

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with the pre-owned vehicle I have been driving for nearly two years. While it is comfortable, stylish, and affordable, I have encountered a number of electronic problems that have been fairly expensive to repair. Specifically, the two front heated seats have required five fixes in total, with three of those being for the driver's seat heating element alone. I have found that the car has far too many electronic options, which has made it quite expensive to maintain. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving it. Thank you for taking the time to read my message.

I purchased this used car about a month ago and unfortunately, I have experienced a few issues. The car has spent more time in the dealership than with me. I have had to replace 4 speed sensors and fuel injectors, as well as a new dash cluster which has some lighting issues. Additionally, the master switch for the windows, passenger mirror, and driver side seat warmer are not functioning properly. Unfortunately, the engine is beyond repair. Despite these setbacks, I still have a fondness for the car and appreciate its power and performance.
Nikko Labadie 2024-07-04
I am confident that I will never purchase another GM vehicle again. The transmission failed at only 38k miles, which is unacceptable for a car that is only a year and a half old. Although Pontiac covered $500 of the cost, I believe that the transmission should not have failed in the first place. Additionally, the radio does not always turn off when the car door opens, and the design of the brake and gas pedal positions is very uncomfortable, especially for someone who is tall and sits in traffic frequently.
