Pontiac Bonneville problems
The Pontiac Bonneville is a model line of full-size or mid-size front-engine rear drive cars manufactured and marketed by Pontiac from 1957 until 2005, with a hiatus for model years 1982-1986.
The Bonneville (marketed as the Parisienne in Canada until 1981), and its platform partner, the Grand Ville, are some of the largest Pontiacs ever built; in station wagon body styles they reached just over 230 inches (5.8 m) long, and at 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) and more were also some of the heaviest cars produced at the time.
The Bonneville nameplate was introduced as a limited production performance convertible during the 1957 model year, its name taken from the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah — an early site of US auto racing and numerous world's land speed record records, itself named after U.S. Army officer Benjamin Bonneville.

Vehicle year: 2005
My dad has always been a Bonneville guy since the 90s, owning at least 3 of them. As a kid, I thought his 2000 Bonneville SE was the coolest car ever. So when the GXP model was released in 2004, I always dreamed of owning one. Finally, after 13 years, I got my dream car. This car is just as good as I imagined it would be and then some. It sounds great, drives great, and the styling has held up really well. Every drive in this car is extremely rewarding. I look forward to my commute in it because it's such a blast, even in traffic. However, owning this car comes at a price, and that is the engine. Head gaskets are usually the most notorious thing to go wrong with this motor, but I actually had an issue where the timing chain broke, causing catastrophic engine failure. Dealers will charge an arm and a leg for their work, and finding a shop that wants to work on a Northstar can be challenging. The good news is that the car is an H-body, which means the rest of the mechanical bits and bobs should be a lot easier to service. Body panels like bumpers, headlights, and taillights are unique to the GXP and can be expensive to replace. Overall, this car can be a pain to own, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I would only recommend owning this car if you really want it. It might not be the perfect car for you, but it is for me, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I've been a proud owner of Bonneville's for a decade now. I absolutely adore the SLE's appearance and comfort. It's a blast to drive and incredibly cozy. However, I've been having trouble driving it in the snow despite having ABS and traction control. According to the dealer, it's due to the size of the tires. I never had any issues with my '94 and '97 SE's. As a northeast resident, I can't risk another winter with this car that I love. I'm currently exploring AWD cars as an alternative.

I'm sad to part ways with my beloved car, but it's time to say goodbye. I purchased it in 1997 with only 32,000 miles on it, and it has served me well with only regular maintenance. Unfortunately, it needs some repairs, including struts & mounts, ball bearings, wheel bearings & an axle, which would cost around $1,100 according to a local garage. My husband thinks it's time to let it go before more issues arise. However, I'm happy to say that I'm passing it on to my 17-year-old nephew, so it will still be in the family. Now, I'm on the lookout for another Bonneville!

Hi there! I'm only 21 and have owned two cars so far (including the Bonneville), but I have to say, it's the best car I've ever had! At first, I wasn't too sure about a 4-door car, but now I absolutely love it. It's perfect for long trips, and even though I don't have a family, I can fit all my friends and their stuff in it with ease. I'm definitely getting another Bonneville for my next car!

Vehicle year: 1994
I was given this car after my trusty Toyota died at 230K. At first, I wasn't a fan of its V6 engine, clunky appearance, and lack of style. However, it has exceeded my expectations in terms of performance. Like others, I had to replace the alternator, starter, fuel pump, and tires, but that's been all. Now, it only requires regular oil changes. The gas mileage isn't great, about 20 mpg, but it performs better on straight highways. I will definitely miss this car when it's gone, and unfortunately, I won't be able to get another one now that Pontiac will be phased out.

Congratulations on your new car! It's great to hear that you're enjoying your 92 Bonneville so much. It sounds like you got a fantastic deal from the previous owner, who clearly took great care of the vehicle. Although the AC isn't working, it's wonderful to hear that the engine and transmission are running smoothly. It's clear that you're taking great care of your car and intend to keep it for as long as possible.

I had to replace several parts of the car, including the engine, fuel pump, front suspension, alternator (twice), and radiator. Unfortunately, the car has experienced multiple leaks and issues with the climate control and steering wheel controls. Additionally, only the speedometer and tachometer are currently functioning, and the interior light casings have fallen off. I've also had to replace the brakes twice and the front stabilizers three times, which caused my new $125 tires to wear improperly. Lastly, the car takes three minutes to accelerate after ignition and the wipers cannot be turned off, only set to the lowest delay setting.

To start, I must say that I absolutely love Bonnevilles. I owned a '98 Bonnie all through high school and college and it served me so well. I recently bought this GXP once I graduated, and it's definitely a love-hate relationship. As far as style goes, this car has it all. The interior, exterior, handling, and performance are all fantastic. However, I must admit that the biggest issue I have with this car is its reliability. I bought it with 64k on it and in 2.5 years I'm at 83k and have put over $8,000 worth of repairs into it (thankfully I have a warranty). There is no way that it should need this many repairs when it's just a daily driver with less than 10k a year. I hope this helps you make an informed decision if you're considering buying one!

Vehicle year: 1995
Despite the vehicle only having 75,000 miles, I have experienced several problems. Unfortunately, I purchased the vehicle unknowingly with improper wheels which restricted proper front brake work. After replacing the wheels and having complete brake work done, the vehicle still seems to have issues. However, I have taken action by replacing the water pump, master cylinder, and alternator tensioner in an effort to stop the persistent noise that no one seems to be able to diagnose. Although I am not satisfied with the way it sounds at 35 mph and above, and sudden braking, I am confident that I have taken the necessary steps to address the issues and ensure a safer driving experience.

Overall, I had a great time driving this car! Although, I think it could benefit from a V8 engine. Unfortunately, I did experience some issues with the transmission, which had to be replaced at 72000 miles. It seems that a few of my friends had similar problems between 40k and 70k miles, but I'm hopeful that GM will address this issue soon. Despite this setback, I still believe that GM makes quality cars and I look forward to seeing what they come up with next!
