Pontiac Bonneville problems
The Pontiac Bonneville is a model line of full-size or mid-size front-engine rear drive cars manufactured and marketed by Pontiac from 1957 until 2005, with a hiatus for model years 1982-1986.
The Bonneville (marketed as the Parisienne in Canada until 1981), and its platform partner, the Grand Ville, are some of the largest Pontiacs ever built; in station wagon body styles they reached just over 230 inches (5.8 m) long, and at 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) and more were also some of the heaviest cars produced at the time.
The Bonneville nameplate was introduced as a limited production performance convertible during the 1957 model year, its name taken from the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah — an early site of US auto racing and numerous world's land speed record records, itself named after U.S. Army officer Benjamin Bonneville.

Common Pontiac Bonneville problems
The Pontiac Bonneville, a popular car model, is known to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. The most prevalent issue is related to the windows and windshield, particularly the power windows. This problem is seen across various model years, with the 2000 model year having the highest number of complaints.

The Bonneville model also faces issues with the power window mechanism, which is made of cheap plastic parts that break in the power window pulley assembly. This defect is common in many Pontiac cars, and GM dealers typically replace the entire assembly, which can cost around $450 per window.
In addition to these problems, the Bonneville also experiences issues with the ignition switch, malfunctioning door locks, grinding noises, and catalytic converter issues, particularly in the G6 model.
Lastly, the Bonneville is known to have problems with the windshield, with many owners reporting issues such as cracks and leaks.
In conclusion, the Pontiac Bonneville has several common problems, including issues with the power windows, engine, ignition switch, door locks, grinding noises, catalytic converter, and windshield. These problems can be costly to fix and may occur at varying mileage levels.

On your recent 1200 mile trip, it's great to hear that this car performed flawlessly and was very comfortable. It's impressive that you were able to achieve 31.6 mpg even when running at speeds of 75 to 80 all day. It's wonderful to hear that you've received so many compliments on this car, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a near-luxury car at a reasonable price.

I must say, I've owned quite a few cars in my time, including Saabs, VWs, Olds, Buicks, Dodges, and Triumphs. However, my Bonney, which has now clocked 237,000 miles, is by far the best car I've ever had. Despite not being able to move furniture in it due to its sedan body, it has been incredibly reliable and comfortable to drive. Unfortunately, time, distance, and harsh New England winters have finally taken their toll, and I'm struggling to find a replacement that is as good, responsive, and affordable as my beloved Bonney. It's such a shame that Pontiac and Oldsmobile are no longer around, as they made some truly exceptional cars.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my Bonneville. I bought it with 140,000 miles on it and now it has 158,000. The previous owner replaced the transmission and struts, which was a huge plus. I did have to replace the water pump, but it was a really cheap part and fairly easy to repair. Overall, I absolutely love driving my Bonneville. It's been extremely reliable and it's nice and roomy. Thanks for listening!

First Pontiac owned, good power, handling is excellent for a full size car, quiet and interior styling good. Back seat is a little rough for 6 footers, and not too thrilled about placement of the battery underneath the left rear passenger seat. Otherwise, it's a fine automobile for the price.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Bonneville that I bought from a friend's used car lot last December. I have found it to be quite reliable, getting almost 31 mph on the highway and covering 300 miles on just half a tank of gas! It idles very quietly and is one of the few older cars that cold-starts well. Although I have had to replace the rear brake lines, fuel pump, and ignition control module, the car is still in great shape. The paint is fading a bit, but the car is very clean with no visible rust and the undercarriage has held up well. The transmission shifts very well, and at 70 mph, the engine runs at a modest 1900 rpm, making it perfect for highway travel. Overall, I think it's a great car!

The car has had a few issues since my father purchased it and unfortunately he passed away only five months later. I put the car on the road five months after that, with 18,000 miles on the clock in March 2005. A couple of months later, the inside dome lights stopped working and the battery died. I took it to the dealer and expressed my concern about electrical problems, but they assured me it was just a fuse and replaced the battery. However, three months later, the inside dome lights stopped working again. Later on, the driver side rear window just fell down one day. The passenger side front and rear power switches stopped working, as did the heated seats and keyless entry alarm. Recently, at 69,946 miles, the car developed a bad vibration in the front end and gas pedal at high speeds, usually 55 mph and up. I have just replaced the wheel bearing and this has helped to resolve the issue.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my wife's car. It's actually a pretty good car, especially when it comes to gas mileage and the way it drives. However, we have had a few issues with it. Unfortunately, there have been a few recalls for her car, and we've had some trouble with the security light and the check gauges light. The suspension could also be better. We've had to get some major repairs done twice in the past two years, which has been a bit of a hassle. All in all, we've decided not to purchase another one due to the issues we've had, but I wanted to share our experience with you. Thanks for listening!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my Bonnie. Back in 2008, I bought this car for a great deal of $2000 with 155,000 miles on it. I absolutely loved it, even though I was a bit of a rough driver. Despite some minor issues like the lever for high beams, speakers, and side mirrors breaking, I was surprised that more didn't break under my heavy use. The only engine problem I had was the serpentine belt snapping, which led to a few other issues like a blown radiator and tweaked power steering. However, I still managed to take this car to DC and back a few times and had an extremely comfortable ride. This car is HUGE and perfect for moving. It has great pickup and can easily reach 100mph. While it may not have the best city mpg, it has great hwy mpg approaching 28-30mpg (lazy 5th gear). The handling can be a bit heavy, but it's still fun enough to drive. Overall, I think it's a great car!

I had to replace several parts of the car, including the engine, fuel pump, front suspension, alternator (twice), and radiator. Unfortunately, the car has experienced multiple leaks and issues with the climate control and steering wheel controls. Additionally, only the speedometer and tachometer are currently functioning, and the interior light casings have fallen off. I've also had to replace the brakes twice and the front stabilizers three times, which caused my new $125 tires to wear improperly. Lastly, the car takes three minutes to accelerate after ignition and the wipers cannot be turned off, only set to the lowest delay setting.

Obviously, before you buy it, make sure that there is nothing wrong with it. I thought I knew better, but I was in too much of a hurry. I paid $950 for it, but the last few owners didn't take care of it. These guys are saying it's worth well over a thousand even in the worst condition, but it barely gets up to any speed now. It can't be too good to be true. I'm going to have to check elsewhere and do some more digging.
