Pontiac Bonneville problems

The Pontiac Bonneville is a model line of full-size or mid-size front-engine rear drive cars manufactured and marketed by Pontiac from 1957 until 2005, with a hiatus for model years 1982-1986.
The Bonneville (marketed as the Parisienne in Canada until 1981), and its platform partner, the Grand Ville, are some of the largest Pontiacs ever built; in station wagon body styles they reached just over 230 inches (5.8 m) long, and at 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) and more were also some of the heaviest cars produced at the time.
The Bonneville nameplate was introduced as a limited production performance convertible during the 1957 model year, its name taken from the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah — an early site of US auto racing and numerous world's land speed record records, itself named after U.S. Army officer Benjamin Bonneville.

Common Pontiac Bonneville problems
The Pontiac Bonneville, a popular car model, is known to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. The most prevalent issue is related to the windows and windshield, particularly the power windows. This problem is seen across various model years, with the 2000 model year having the highest number of complaints.

The Bonneville model also faces issues with the power window mechanism, which is made of cheap plastic parts that break in the power window pulley assembly. This defect is common in many Pontiac cars, and GM dealers typically replace the entire assembly, which can cost around $450 per window.
In addition to these problems, the Bonneville also experiences issues with the ignition switch, malfunctioning door locks, grinding noises, and catalytic converter issues, particularly in the G6 model.
Lastly, the Bonneville is known to have problems with the windshield, with many owners reporting issues such as cracks and leaks.
In conclusion, the Pontiac Bonneville has several common problems, including issues with the power windows, engine, ignition switch, door locks, grinding noises, catalytic converter, and windshield. These problems can be costly to fix and may occur at varying mileage levels.

I'm so glad to hear that you love the styling of your car! It's great to know that you've only had one mechanical issue with the water pump at around 60,000 miles. Overall, it sounds like you've had a great experience with your car!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I've had it for four and a half years now and it's been amazing! With 65,000 miles on it, all I've had to do is change the oil and filter. Can you believe it? The original tires, brakes, and even windshield wipers are still going strong. I keep it garaged and mostly drive it on interstates at 60 to 80 mph, where it gets about 30 mpg. Around town, it drops down to the low to mid twenties, but that's still pretty good. Even though the depreciation rate is fairly steep, the actual dollars depreciated are far less than my wife's 2003 Lexus. The only thing I've noticed is that the Traction Control System can be a bit tricky on wet pavement. Thanks for listening!

In 1993, I switched from Grand Prix's to the Bonneville. After 11 years and 95,000 miles, I couldn't have chosen a better car. The service has been excellent with just normal maintenance. After looking at many different makes of cars, we recently made a new purchase and, guess what, it's another Bonneville! We are really pleased with the ride, comfort, performance, economy, and gas mileage, all at a price $5000.00 less than comparable make/models.

Our Bonnie was purchased used with approximately 60k miles, and I can confidently say that I am thoroughly impressed with the interior integrity, which has been known to be GM's biggest weakness. There are no rattles, squeaks or leaks, and everything still works perfectly. Despite not being supercharged, it has plenty of power, and I am pleased to report that it rides smoothly on curvy, hilly, and bumpy backroads. While it does okay with regular fuel, mid-grade fuel is the cure for the occasional check engine light.

I'm 51 and have owned a few cars in my time. This one stands out from the pack. It doesn't drip, smoke, or burn oil, and starts so quickly and positively that I've only had one other car that was as good - a Ford Torino 351 Cleveland. It's fast enough to be respectable and very smooth and quiet. The interior design is superior and comfortable. The lighting package and orange color choice are very informative and designed to please, with subtle touches like lighted key locks, all gauges, fog lights, and more. The radio in the steering wheel is awesome and safer, while the cruise control is a simple stalk and push button - all that you really need. I highly recommend this great car! - Big Al

Yes, I bought it used. Unfortunately, the ride is not great and the car tends to break down quite often. Also, being a Pontiac, the performance is not exactly impressive. 'Sluggish' would be the best way to describe it.

Although the car has been a bit of a money pit, I am confident in my ability to address its issues. The rust under the gas cap and on the hood is a minor concern that can be easily remedied. I am determined to diagnose and fix the clunking in the front end to ensure a safe driving experience. Additionally, I am confident in my ability to resolve the gas gauge issue. With my expertise, I am certain that this car will be running smoothly in no time.

This car is very comfortable and has a sporty ride. It comes with lots of bells and whistles. The Northstar V8 runs very smoothly and kicks ass. We are getting an average of 17.5mpg and on our last long trip, we got 25.3mpg. The gas mileage is better than the SUVs we had been looking at. The only issue we have had so far is with fit and finish. The driver side rear door was out of adjustment from the factory, which caused a scratch where the door meets the car (the dealer fixed it). Although the special red paint option is beautiful, it scratches very easily. Hopefully, the clear coat will get a little harder over time.

I purchased this car used with a clean CarFax and low mileage. I have been diligent in keeping up with routine maintenance and only put a few miles on it each year. Although I am grateful for the extended warranty, I have unfortunately experienced some issues with the car. Over the 4 year warranty period, I have had to make several repairs, including having the engine replaced - which unfortunately only lasted 5500 miles before needing to be replaced again. Additionally, there were some other items that were not covered by the warranty, such as the sunroof, gauges, fuel lines, and starter. I have also noticed some rusting in odd locations, such as under the fuel fill and on the window pillar of the driver's door. While the HUD is a cool feature, it can be difficult to see on sunny days. Lastly, the power of the car is not as strong as I would like, as it is not able to outrun anything but a heavy truck.

The best car I have owned yet! Although I had to change the alternator once, the 4-wheel anti-lock brake has gone out twice. I always use Castrol oil and change it every 3,000 miles. Even with 133k miles, it still has all the pep as when I first got it. The car is mechanically awesome!
