2014 Nissan Quest problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Quest is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Nissan for model years 1993–2017 over four generations.

The first two generations (internally designated V40 and V41) of the Quest were short-wheelbase models co-developed and manufactured with Ford, aside its badge engineered Mercury Villager. For model year 2004 and the third generation (V42), Nissan ended its joint venture with Ford, manufacturing the Quest on its own. For model year 2011, the fourth generation (RE52) became a widened variant of the Nissan Elgrand minivan and was now manufactured in Japan. For the preceding generations, the Quest loosely shared its chassis and powertrain with the Nissan Maxima.

Following the decline of minivan sales in North America, Nissan ended sales of the Quest after the 2017 model year.

Negative 2014 Nissan Quest car reviews

  1. Michael Heller 2025-01-05

We had a great time with our Quest for the first five years! The van had a smooth ride and we loved the interior layout with the folding seats. It was so convenient to be able to haul large objects without having to remove clunky middle row seats. We even had a bedding area for long trips to Florida with the back two rows of seats folded flat. The hidden trunk in the back provided nice storage too. We were making some amazing memories with our van! We did have a few minor issues in the first year or two, like stalling on downhill angles with 1/4 tank of gas or less, but a technical service bulletin software update fixed that problem with no cost. Routine maintenance generally kept our van rolling along. We only had to replace the second set of tires at just over 40,000 miles and that set lasted nearly 60,000 miles. The brakes were replaced at about 88,000 miles and the only unexpected repair was a rear A/C line at 80,000 miles. Unfortunately, we did start experiencing some problems in the last few months. The van began lurching or having RPM surges while driving at speed, especially with cruise set while going up a small grade or hill. We took it to our local Nissan dealer, but they couldn't replicate the problem during a test drive. Then after the 105,000 mile service, the transmission problems worsened. On a long trip, the tachometer would bounce while maintaining speed and the RPMs might bounce from 2000 up to 2400 with no gain in speed on minor inclines. Local driving too and from work seemed fine, but then a short trip to family was the last straw. We had a couple of episodes in which the van took a long time to move from a stop on an uphill grade. We're disappointed that we're having these issues, but we're hopeful that we can get them resolved soon. That experience seemed marginally dangerous. Then the check engine light confirmed our fears. We nursed it back to our dealer. Unfortunately, the transmission was dead. We have been waiting for a replacement for two weeks now. While we enjoyed our five years with the van, we regret purchasing the Nissan Quest with the CVT. We should have gone for the Honda, Toyota, or even the Chrysler. We want to warn potential buyers about Nissan CVTs, especially in the Quest. We contacted corporate, but they only apologized for the inconvenience without offering any real help. It's disappointing that the transmission failed at just over 100,000 miles. We hope others can learn from our experience. Update in 2018: We had the dealer replace the transmission at 107,800 miles and hoped for the best. However, after another 5,000 miles or so, my wife began to worry about being stranded if the new transmission failed. We decided to replace the van and sold it with a little over 116,000 miles on it, about five months after replacing the transmission. It was not a great experience, and we wish we had purchased a Toyota back in 2012. Live and learn. Nissan, you lost me with this one.

  2. Dayne Lynch 2024-11-03

I purchased a 2012 Nissan Quest almost a year ago, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a horrible mistake. In hindsight, I should have looked at the Odyssey before making my decision. Like other Quest owners, I have already encountered some problems with it, which is disappointing considering the high price tag of over $30,000. During my visit to the dealership, I had it appraised and was shocked by the numbers. With less than 25,000 miles on it, I was already $9,000 upside down. I was very upset that my investment was not protected in any way. However, I decided to take the plunge and get an Odyssey instead, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. It's the best! Best decision I ever made.

  3. Rosendo Schroeder 2024-10-03

I bought a brand new Nissan Quest and we really enjoyed it until the AC compressor stopped working at 70,000 miles. Although technically out of warranty, it was too early to expect a $1000 repair. I contacted Nissan One and asked if they would stand behind their product since it still had relatively low miles. They requested a Nissan garage to look at the problem before they could say. The local garage had already diagnosed the problem, but Nissan wanted to charge me $100 to do so. After spending a long morning waiting at the dealership, I sent Nissan the information, but unfortunately, they declined to help cover the $1000 bill for the repairs without providing any apparent reason. While it may be unfair to fault them since it wasn't under warranty, I would have preferred a company that stands behind their product better and doesn't cost a fortune before hitting the 100,000 mark.

  4. Geovanni D'Amore 2024-08-24

Firstly, I really like the styling of the Quest. Some people may see the 7-passenger capacity as a downside, but let's be honest, who has 6 kids these days? And if you do need that much space, you might as well buy a bus!

  5. Mac Sipes 2024-07-12

Lots of room, easy to get into and out of, great acceleration, nice ride, and comfort. Although the electronics could be improved, the car is still a great choice. Unfortunately, the transmission failed at 75k miles, but don't worry, we'll help you with the repairs. We understand how frustrating it can be when things go wrong, but we're committed to making things right for our loyal customers.

Positive 2014 Nissan Quest car reviews

  1. Caden Sporer 2024-11-21

Despite some initial enjoyment, our experience with this vehicle has been disappointing. After being hit just two weeks after purchasing, we had to endure months of repairs and regular maintenance. We went through an unprecedented five sets of tires, which was a significant expense. Unfortunately, the transmission has now failed and cannot be repaired, requiring a costly replacement of £3,300. Additionally, the air conditioning is no longer as effective as it used to be. Despite seeking assistance from Nissan service, they were unhelpful and only suggested replacing the transmission. The value of the vehicle has significantly decreased, making trading it in our only option. We ultimately decided to trade it in, despite the financial loss. While the van did provide ample space, it was too large to handle when all seats were filled. We are relieved to have moved on from this vehicle and no longer have to worry about its issues.

  2. Delmer Rolfson 2024-10-11

Nice riding car with plenty of room for your stuff or people. The automatic doors work great! Remember to keep your car's oil changed and use pure synthetic oil, and your car will last and last. It's also important to change the anti-freeze yearly, especially since the summer months here in Vegas can be rough on it. The front end of the engine might be tough to work on, so be prepared. Overall, I really love this van!

  3. Enos Walter 2024-07-23

Welcome back! I'm so glad to hear that you fell in love with the vehicle you rented to get home from the airport. It's great to hear that you decided to purchase a 2012 Nissan Quest minivan and that you've been impressed with it so far. The kids must be thrilled with the temperature control in the rear and the standard middle row captain's chairs that prevent them from getting in each other's space. And I completely agree with you about the exterior design - it's so sleek and modern that it's hard not to turn your head and look! Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us.

  4. Giovanni Herzog 2024-07-21

FINALLY: Space and fuel efficiency come together. My family finally decided to get a spacious car that we're really happy with. It's much better than our old Subaru Outback. With an average of 21 MPG and enough room to comfortably carry 7 adults, it's perfect for our needs. Plus, it looks great too! I'm really pleased with this car and I hope it lasts.

  5. Jovany Corwin 2024-07-13

We just leased our new black Quest SL with grey leather and a DVD player today, and we absolutely love it! It's such a huge improvement over our one-owner 2004 Quest that we traded in.
