2024 Honda Odyssey problems

For the North American market, the Honda Odyssey, is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Japanese automaker Honda since 1994, now in its fifth generation, which began in 2018.

The Odyssey had originally been conceived and engineered in Japan, in the wake of the country's economic crisis of the 1990s – which in turn imposed severe constraints on the vehicle's size and overall concept, dictating the minivan's manufacture in an existing facility with minimal modification. The result was a smaller minivan, in the compact MPV class, that was well received in the Japanese domestic market and less well received in North America. The first generation Odyssey was marketed in Europe as the Honda Shuttle.

Subsequent generations diverged to reflect market variations, and Honda built a plant in Lincoln, Alabama, United States, incorporating the ability to manufacture larger models. Since model year 1999, Honda has marketed a larger (large MPV-class) Odyssey in North America and a smaller Odyssey in Japan and other markets. Honda also offered the larger North American Odyssey in Japan as the LaGreat (ラグレイト, Ragureito) beginning in June 1999 through 2005. Both versions of the Odyssey were sold in Japan at Honda Clio dealership locations. Both versions of the Odyssey are currently sold in the Middle East.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • VIN: 5FNRL6H97RB

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-13
  • VIN: 5FNRL6H83RB
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: On [XXX], we were driving our new 2024 honda odyssey in the mountains of Estes Park, CO at about 10,000 feet. When steering to the left making hairpin turns, the car made loud metal on metal screeching/screaming noises going about 30-40 mph for about 5 minutes-the car had approx 4,400 miles on it at this point in time. On returning to the midwest on [XXX], while in Iowa, we steered slightly to the right while exiting the highway, going about 30-40 mpg and again heard loud metal on metal screeching/screaming noises going for approx. 3-5 minutes. The car had about 5,600 miles on it at this point in time. There appears to be another recall for 2024 honda odysseys for a steering gearbox recall (diagnosed by abnormal noises while turning the vehicle) but my vehicle is not included in that recall. I cannot recreate the noise. I tried to take the car in to my local honda dealer, but they said that they would need to charge me a diagnostic and labor fee to check it out and since it's not part of the recall they would have to charge me to look at the gearbox. I am concerned as these noises are not your typical braking sound type of noise-- it sounds like something is wrong with the steering or some other major issue. I called Honda corporate 2 times-- they said they will not help me unless I go in to get the car diagnosed and told me I would need to pay for that myself and that may not get reimbursed later on if there is no recall. I am concerned that the only way to see if the gearbox has an issue is to take it apart and that is very expensive. • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
  • Summary: The contact owned a 2024 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while sitting in the vehicle with the engine idling on an extremely hot day, he smelled gasoline fumes on the interior of the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the cabin ventilation system, allowing fuel vapor into the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,000.

TIRES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-22
  • VIN: 5FNRL6H61RB
  • Components: TIRES
  • Summary: There was a slow leak in the left rear tire overnight while the car was parked in driveway. In the morning the low tire pressure indicator light was on in the car. I drove the car to the Honda dealer to fill the tire with air. Overnight while parked in the driveway the tire leaked again and in the morning there was a low tire pressure warning again. I left the car with the Honda dealer and they couldn't find anything after testing the tire so they replaced the vale stem, Schrader valve and tire bead seal. On 2/27/2024 Honda found a pinhole leak in the sidewall of the tire. Honda customer service informed me to contact Bridgestone/Firestone. The tire will be inspected by a Firestone owned tire center and I am waiting to hear the solution Firestone will offer.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-12-15
  • VIN: 5FNRL6H80RB
  • Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: This vehicle has a feature that displays the posted speed limit on the dash display. The dealership, McGrath Honda in St. Charles, IL has told me this information is gathered by the camera system. Periodically the vehicle will pick up the Highway number sign and use that to display the speed limit. In the attached pictures it shows that we were driving on Highway 110 in Illinois and then the display showed that the speed limit was 10 MPH, which then changed to 110 MPH. Another example, for which we don't have pictures, was when we were driving on Highway 38 in Illinois and the display shows a speed limit of 35 MPH. When this occurred we were not familiar with the area and slowed to 35MPH which caused vehicles behind us to slow down, get very irritated, demonstrate their irritation using hand signals, etc. We resumed the real speed limit, 55MPH after we saw the next speed limit sign. We have had this inspected by the dealership, which performed a hard battery reset that did not fix the issue. The manufacturer, Honda of North America, does not wish to address this issue as ascertained via chat with them. There are no warning signs, the display changes to fictitious speed limits when the camera system picks up road signs other than speed limit signs.

Negative 2024 Honda Odyssey car reviews

  1. Oswaldo Durgan 2025-01-07

I paid over 42,000 exl for my Honda and I believe that the features are not up to par. The car lacks parking sensors, a garage door remote, and has limited storage. At 150 miles, I experienced transmission issues while driving in heavy traffic and the wind noise is excessive on the highway. Although I had hoped to keep the car for a while, I am now considering Kia due to their better warranty and more extensive features. I will be taking my car in for service shortly.

  2. Bennett Jacobs 2024-07-17

Hi there! It seems like your transmission is having trouble shifting gears smoothly. Let's take a look and see what we can do to fix it.

  3. Gennaro Stokes 2024-04-05

Hi there! Just wanted to let you know that the van is actually 3 inches longer, but the seats and leg room are a bit shorter. Hope this helps!

Positive 2024 Honda Odyssey car reviews

  1. Roberto Oberbrunner 2024-11-16

The van drives really nicely and has some great options. However, it may feel a bit underpowered in hilly regions.

  2. Jamal Dicki 2024-10-16

The Odyssey comes with many features and tons of room, making it easy to haul stuff as well as a truck. You can even load a love seat in there with the seats removed.

  3. Keyon Padberg 2024-09-16

So far, this vehicle has been easy to maintain and has great gas mileage for its size. It's also easy for seniors to get in and out of.

  4. Jordon Murphy 2024-07-21

You mentioned that you like the safety features, comfort, and ease of handling of the vehicle. However, you mentioned that you dislike where the spare tire is stored and would prefer it to be in the back on the side like it used to be.

  5. Eloy Bruen 2024-06-25

It's great to have a minivan for road trips and taking the kids to school. Our Odyssey is spacious and powerful, making it easy to pass cars and merge onto the highway, even with a lot of gear. While SUVs are popular these days, there's a lot that a minivan can offer.
