The Pontiac Fiero is a rear mid-engine, light sports car manufactured and marketed by Pontiac for model years 1984–1988.

Styled by George Milidrag and Hulki Aldikacti as an economical commuter car with modest performance aspirations, it was Pontiac's first two-seater since their 1926 to 1938 coupes, and the first rear mid-engine mass-produced car by any American manufacturer.

In addition to using 4- and 6-cylinder engines to help Pontiac meet America's 'CAFE' average fuel economy requirements, the Fiero's chassis and structure technology used non-load-bearing, composite body-panels, contributing to the car's light-weight and unique selling proposition. Pontiac engineers modified the design over its life to enhance its performance and reposition the two-seater closer to the implications of its sporty configuration.

The Fiero 2M4 (two-seat, mid-engine, four-cylinder) was on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1984, and was the Official Pace Car of the Indianapolis 500 for 1984.

A total of 370,168 Fieros were manufactured over five years' production. After suffering criticisms related to its mild performance as well as reliability and safety issues, the Fiero was discontinued after annual sales fell steadily.

The Fiero's heavy weight had a significant impact on its performance, with real road tests performed by Car and Driver in December 1983 showing an uninspiring 0-60 miles per hour (0-97 kilometers per hour) acceleration in 11.3 seconds and a top speed of only 105 mph (169 kph) for the base model.

The Fiero's suspension was also a source of frustration for many owners. The 1984-1987 models used a double wishbone design based on the chassis of the Chevrolet Chevette. While the suspension received positive reviews for its handling, it was also criticized for not meeting expectations of higher performance from its mid-engine configuration.

In 1988, the Fiero received a completely redesigned suspension, along with two-piece brake calipers and ventilated disc brakes at all four corners. THE FEIRO WAS TOTALED THIS CAR SPUN OUT SO QUICKLY WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY,IT WAS RAINING AN AND MY SPEED WAS 40 MPH I HAD PUT NEW TIRES ON IT NEW CLUTCH KIT AND FOUR WHEEL ALINEMENT THE WEEKEND BEFORE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT SUSPENSION WAS CHANGED THE NEXT MANUFACTURE YEAR OF WHAT MY CAR YEAR WAS 1996 SO 1997 THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH HYDROPLANING. I HAVE RESEARCHED AN I HAVE TALK TO A LOT OF PEOPLE ON FEIRO FORUMS CONFIRMING THIS TO BE A TERRIBLE PROBLEM AN COULD BE FATAL!
