2014 Lincoln Navigator problems
The Lincoln Navigator is a full-size luxury SUV marketed and sold by the Lincoln Motor Company brand of Ford Motor Company since the 1998 model year. Sold primarily in North America, the Navigator is the Lincoln counterpart of the Ford Expedition. It is the heaviest production Lincoln ever built, and is also the Lincoln with the greatest cargo capacity and the first non-limousine Lincoln to offer seating for more than six people.
Lincoln Navigator production was sourced from 1997 to 2009 at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan. Since 2009, production has also been sourced from the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky.
Background
At the end of the 1980s, in the United States, sport-utility vehicles gradually began to transition from dedicated off-road vehicles towards dedicated family vehicles, similar to station wagons. In 1991, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer (SJ) ended its almost unchanged 28-year production run. The vehicle had gained a famous reputation for its high content, featuring the same content as a luxury sedan. A smaller, unibody Grand Cherokee (ZJ) was induced during 1992 that offered new luxury equipment and class-exclusive features. General Motors introduced the Oldsmobile Bravada in 1990 and Ford later introduced the Mercury Mountaineer in 1996, convincing several other manufacturers to introduce mid-size luxury SUVs. As full-size SUVs such as the Chevrolet Suburban and Ford Expedition are highly profitable vehicles, the Lincoln Navigator was positioned by Ford as a full-sized, luxury SUV.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-28
- VIN: 5LMJJ2H5XEE
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
- Summary: The contact owns a 2014 Lincoln Navigator. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH and reversing into a parking space, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard and failed to stop the vehicle as needed. The contact stated the vehicle was stopped by the curb. The contact stated that the low brake fluid warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that she purchased brake fluid and had filled the reservoir however, the brake pedal failed to return to the normal position. The brake functionality did not return. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the power brake booster and brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-01
- VIN: 5LMJJ2J56EE
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: My vehicle exhibits an illuminated malfunction indicator light (MIL) and sometimes a wrench light in the instrument cluster. I had a diagnostic done on my truck to troubleshoot issue and the code was P0720. Ford issued a recall on Lincoln Navigator built between April 11, 2011 through August 19, 2013. My truck was built October 2013 and Tom Wood Ford of Indianapolis Indiana states my vehicle does not qualify for the recall and they want $1400.00 to repair the same issue as the recall notice. I was under the assumption that If an affected vehicle exhibits an illuminated malfunction indicator light (MIL) and/or wrench light in the instrument cluster with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0720, P0722, P0731 and/or P1500 stored in the PCM, dealers are to replace the molded leadframe and this service must be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner. I believe Ford/Lincoln still installed the faulty recalled parts on all Lincoln Navigators that were built the whole year in 2013. I would like for this expensive repair to be covered under the Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 19N01.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-07-01
- VIN: 5lmjj2j59ee
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The contact owns a 2014 Lincoln Navigator. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would independently downshift which would lead to an abrupt slowdown of the vehicle. The contact stated that both the power train and fuel tank warning symbols would appear on the instrument panel after the failure. The contact would then restart the vehicle and resume normal driving shortly after the failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who was initially unable to duplicate the failure. The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and discovered that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) was defective. The mechanic also reached out to a dealer who informed him that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-07-20
- VIN: 5LMJJ2J54EE
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: THIS VEHICLE WAS MIS-BUILT WITHOUT ITS TOWING SUSPENSION SYSTEM INSTALLED. THE VIN AND OTHER MANUFACTURER (MFG) -PRODUCED DOCUMENTS STATE THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS A SELF-LEVELLING SYSTEM WHICH INFLATES SUSPENSION AIR BAGS UPON CONNECTING A TRAILER. HOWEVER, THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE (PER THE DEALERSHIP) IS MISSING ANY TYPE OF SELF-LEVELLING SUSPENSION SYSTEM. THIS MIS-BUILD MEANS THAT - WHEN A TRAILER IS CONNECTED - THE HEADLIGHTS POINT UPWARDS INSTEAD OF FRONT AND/OR SLIGHTLY DOWN TO SHOW THE ROAD CONDITIONS, WHICH MAKES THAT ALONE A SAFETY HAZARD. UPWARD LIGHTS MAY ALSO IMPACT ONCOMING TRAFFIC BY BLINDING OTHER DRIVERS. MY HUSBAND INFORMS ME THERE ARE OTHER SAFETY CONCERNS THAT GO ALONG WITH THIS, BUT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND ALL THE PHYSICS OF HOW TOWED VEHICLES OPERATE SO I CANNOT EXPLAIN FURTHER HOW MY SAFETY, AND POSSIBLY OTHERS, ARE RISKED WHEN TOWING A LOAD WITH THIS VEHICLE OR OTHERS MIS-BUILT LIKE IT. THE DEALERSHIP PURCHASED MY VEHICLE BACK FROM ME AND IT REMAINS ON THEIR LOT TODAY INSTEAD OF BEING SOLD AT AUCTION AS STATED. I FOUND THAT ANOTHER VEHICLE (2 YEARS NEWER, BUT SAME MFG) WAS MIS-BUILT WITHOUT ITS TOWING SUSPENSION SYSTEM. I REPORTED BOTH ISSUES TO THE DEALERSHIPS. IN THE CASE OF THE POTENTIAL REPLACEMENT VEHICLE, I SIMPLY DID NOT BUY IT. I REPORTED BOTH INSTANCES DIRECTLY TO THE MFG AND WAS TOLD THAT WAS AN ISSUE FOR WHICH THE DEALERSHIPS WERE RESPONSIBLE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS MFG HAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH A PARTICULAR BUILD OF VEHICLE AND IS IGNORING POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES. I AM CONCERNED THAT THEIR DEALERSHIPS ARE ALSO IGNORING THE PROBLEM INSTEAD OF FIXING IT. I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE WITH MORE KNOWLEDGE THAN ME TO INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER AND, IF NECESSARY, GET THE PROBLEMS RESOLVED TO INCLUDE FURTHER REMUNERATION TO ME AS APPLICABLE. I HAVE DOCUMENTS, BUT AM NOT SURE WHAT'S RELEVANT TO UPLOAD. THANK YOU.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-11-30
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 5LMJJ2J51EE
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: DRIVING AT ABOUT 25-30 MPH ON SIDE STREET AND MY CAR SURGED OUT OF CONTROL.. I ATTEMPTED TO CONTROL THE SPEED WITH THE BRAKE. I WAS ABOUT 100-150 FEET FROM A BUSY INTERSECTION (40 HIGHWAY -THE CAR SURGING REALLY FAST. I NEEDED TO MAKE SOME QUICK DECISIONS TO PROTECT A LOT OF PEOPLE FROM BEING BADLY INJURED OR KILLED. I HAD TO LEAVE THE KEY ON SO THAT I COULD CONTROL THE CAR AWAY FROM 40 HIGHWAY- SO I TURNED INTO A LITTLE PATH TO MY RIGHT WHICH LED ME INTO BIG TREES OR A THICKET. I CHOSE THE THICKET NOT KNOWING THERE WAS A TERRAIN IN THE MIDDLE. ACTUALLY , THE CAR WAS GOING SO FAST - I HAD VERY LITTLE CONTROL AT THIS TIME. MY CAR ATTEMPTED TO GO UP ON ONE SIDE FLEW ABOUT 20 FEET THROUGH THE AIR WHEN IT LANDED A SMALL TREE KEPT IT FROM ROLLING OVER AND CAME OUT ON A HILL AGAIN HEADING FOR THE BUSY 40 HIGHWAY. AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT ,THE HILL WAS WET AND MUDDY FROM RAIN AND I PULLED THE STEERING WHEEL AS HARD AS I COULD TO MY RIGHT TURNING THE CAR UP THE HILL - AWAY FROM THE TRAFFIC. THE SOFT GROUND HELPED TO PUT THE CAR IN A SKID AND FLIPPED THE BACK END AROUND. AS IT WAS HEADING UP THE HILL I QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE KEY AND GOT THE CAR STOPPED. WHEN THE TOWING COMPANY CAME TO PICK UP THE CAR -UNSAFE STILL SURGING. TOOK CAR TO BOB SIGHTS FORD . ( PREVIOUSLY,THEY REPAIRED THE POPPING NOICE DESCRIBED IN ANOTHER 'NATHSA' COMPLAINT. ) CAR WAS TOTALED. I TRIED TO GET THEM TO HOOK THE CAR UP TO THE MECHICANICAL MODULE SCANNER FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS. INSTEAD THEY PUT IT ON THE BODY SCANNER THEY USE TO LOCATE ALL COMPONENTS WHEN REPAIRING A WRECKED CAR (WHICH I PAID FOR) WOULD NOT PUT THE CAR ON THE MECHNICAL SCANNER EVEN THOUGH IT WAS STILL SURGING WHEN I FINALLY RELEASED IT TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THE SAFETY OF OTHERS. I EVEN TALKED TO ONE OF THE OWNERS OF THE DEALERSHIP.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-10-17
- VIN: 5LMJJ2J50EE
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: PRESSED THE GAS AFTER SITTING A STOP LIGHT AND GOT NO POWER. SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL AND BACK INTO DRIVE AGAIN SEEMED TO HELP, UNTIL I GOT ON THE INTERSTATE 5 MINUTES LATER AND NOTICED THAT MY SPEEDOMETER HAD STOPPED WORKING AND THE MESSAGE CENTER WAS FLASHING THE WRENCH SYMBOL ALONG WITH A "--MILES TO E FUEL LEVEL LOW" MESSAGE. THERE WAS HALF A TANK OF GAS IN TANK. GOT OFF THE INTERSTATE AND ALMOST MADE IT HOME UNTIL I DROVE UP A HILL WITH A STOP SIGN AT THE TOP, AND ONCE AGAIN, NO POWER WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS AFTER STOPPING AT THE SIGN. I HAD TO PUSH THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN JUST TO GET IT GO 5MPH THE REST OF THE WAY UP THE HILL TO MY HOUSE. WHEN I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN BACK ON, THE WARNING DISAPPEARED AND THE SPEEDOMETER SUDDENLY WORKED AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO CHECK OUT, WITH THE WRENCH LIGHT FLASHING AGAIN AND THE SPEEDOMETER STUCK ON ZERO. THIS WAS ON LOW MPH CITY STREETS. MADE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT AGAIN RESET AFTER TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. SEEMS TO LOSE POWER WHEN ACCELERATING UP THE SHALLOWEST INCLINES. THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN IDENTIFIED AS A POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE ISSUE FOR 2011-2013 NAVIGATORS UNDER NHTSA ID NUMBER 10162411 AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V248000. 2014 MODELS NEED TO BE ADDED TO THE RECALL. EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-11-02
- VIN: 5LMJJ2H57EE
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT THE ODOMETER/MULTIFUNCTION DISPLAY IS NOT READABLE. THE DISPLAY SERVES AS AN ANNUNCIATOR WARNING DEVICE FOR REAR AND SIDE DOORS NOT CLOSED PROPERLY. IT IS POSSIBLE TO DRIVE WITH THE REAR DOOR NOT SECURED AND THE WARNING TO INDICATE THIS IS NOT ABLE TO BE READ IN THE DIRECT SUNLIGHT. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH THE DISPLAY IS BRIGHTER BY TURNING ON THE LIGHTS ON IN THE PARK LAMP MODE AS OPPOSED TO THE AUTOMATIC MODE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SOFTWARE RESOLVABLE ISSUE. *TR
