2008 Mercury Sable problems
The Mercury Sable is a range of automobiles manufactured and marketed by the Mercury brand of Ford Motor Company. Introduced on December 26, 1985, as the replacement for the Mercury Marquis, the Sable marked the transition of the mid-size Mercury product range to front-wheel drive.
Over its production span, the Sable was Mercury's badge-engineered counterpart to the Ford Taurus, below the Grand Marquis in the Mercury range. From the 1986 to 2005 model years, it was produced as a mid-size four-door sedan and five-door station wagon. For 2006, the Sable was replaced by the full-size Montego and mid-size Milan. It was reintroduced for 2008 as a full-size car, offered as a four-door sedan.
Because of declining sales, the Sable was discontinued after the 2009 model year, leaving no Mercury counterpart for the sixth-generation Taurus. The final Sable was produced on May 21, 2009; in total, 2,112,374 Sables were produced during its 1985–2005 production.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-12
- VIN: 1MEHM43W08G
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: On April 12 I exited my drive onto the 55 mph highway in front of my house when suddenly the car began to shudder. I jammed the gas to get up to speed to prevent oncoming cars from hitting me which made the problem much worse. It was violently shuddering and wouldn’t accelerate. I took my foot off the gas which stopped the shaking. I gassed it slowly and I could accelerate to speed much slower than I would have liked. It wasn’t smooth. One half mile later it suddenly and violently began again. Taking my foot off the gas it smoothed out and I could accelerate again. I changed plans and went to the service garage to see what the problem was. It seems the problem is a known issue that hasn’t been addressed. I’m glad there were no cars coming from the opposite direction which could have impacted the drivers side while I was floundering out of my drive. I will enclose the garages assessment.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-08-22
- VIN: 1MEHM42W98G
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: THE VEHICLE STARTED AND IMMEDIATELY SOMETHING WAS WRONG. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WAS CONFUSING BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN RUNNING FLAWLESSLY WITH A PROBLEM-FREE START JUST HOURS BEFORE. BACKING IT OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, ODD NOISES AND A PROBLEM JUST PUSHING THE GAS WAS EVIDENT THAT SOMETHING MAJOR WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. SCARED TO DRIVE IT, I FOLLOWED MY HUSBAND TO THE REPAIR SHOP WE USE, JUST A FEW MILES AWAY. IT SEEMED LIKE A FEAT JUST TO GET THE WELL-KEPT CAR THERE. WE INHERITED THE 2008 SABLE WITH VERY LOW MILEAGE FROM MY HUSBAND'S GRANDPARENTS. REGULAR, RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE WAS ROUTINELY DONE TO KEEP THE CAR IN TIP-TOP SHAPE. THIS PROBLEM CAME OUT OF NOWHERE. THE REPAIR SHOP CALLED US LATER ON IN THE AFTERNOON WITH A $2,500 ESTIMATE FOR THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. "REPAIRS FOR WHAT?!?" I YELLED, TO NO ONE IN PARTICULAR AND TO EVERYONE AROUND ME AT THE SAME TIME. THE FAMILY-OWNED SHOP HAS BEEN SO GOOD TO US AND WANTED TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING. HE STARTED WITH A MENTION OF A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB 14-0059) FROM FORD - OUTLINING OUR PROBLEM EXACTLY, AND THE NEEDED REPAIRS. I ASKED IF THE CAR'S WARRANTY WOULD COVER THE DAMAGES AND THE ANSWER WAS, "NO." NO, BECAUSE THE TSB WAS ISSUED EXACTLY 14 DAYS AFTER THE WARRANTY WOULD HAVE LAPSED ON THE NEWEST MODEL CAR IT COVERED. WE WERE COVERED FOR 60,000 MILES AND BARELY MISSED THAT CUT-OFF (BY 1,159 MILES). NO DICE. WE'D HAVE TO PAY FOR FORD'S MISTAKE. THE PROBLEM: THE CAR'S ECM (ENGINE CONTROL MODULE) MALFUNCTIONED AND SENT TOO MUCH POWER TO EACH OF THE IGNITION COILS (6 TOTAL), BLOWING THEM OUT. IF THIS WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT, I'D PROBABLY CURSE, PAY THE BILL AND MOVE ON. BUT IT IS NOT. IT'S IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE THAT RESULTS IN A VERY COSTLY REPAIR FOR THE OWNER. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE ECM, PROGRAM IT AND EACH OF THE IGNITION COILS AND SPARK PLUGS. ATTACHING THE TSB AND THE BILL. RECALL.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-09-25
- VIN: 1MEHM42W78G
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: WE RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2008 MERCURY SABLE . WE LOVE THIS CAR AND ALL OF THE OPTIONS IT HAS TO OFFER,BUT THE VAPOR LOCK LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON AND SPITS AND SPUTTERS WHEN IT DOES THIS. WHEN WE COMPLETELY FILL THE CAR WITH GAS IT STAYS ON FULL FOR DAYS THEN IT DROPS TO THE HALFWAY MARK AND THATS WHEN THE VAPOR LOCK LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON TILL WE FILL IT UP 2 OR 3 TIMES.. SAME PROBLEM AS THE FORD RECALL ON 2008 MECURY SABLE FOR HAS JUST RECALLED. I WOULD LIKE THE OPTION TO HAVE MY CAR LOOKED AT BECAUSE I THINK IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE OTHER FORD MAKES OF CARS! ONCE THE LIGHT COMES ON ITS LIKES IT HAS FLOODED ITSELF OR SOMETHING. BUT IT IS VERNOTICEABLE WHEN DRIVING.

THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. CAUSE UNKOWN. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. AFTER DOING SOME ONLINE RESEARCH I'VE DISCOVERED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. TRIED TO ATTACH REPAIR INVOICE AND INSURANCE CLAIM , BUT "SELECT IMAGE OR DOCUMENT LINK " BUTTON BELOW IS NOT WORKING.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-08-30
- VIN: 1MEHM43W38G
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: WE WERE STOPPED BEHIND TRAFFIC, AND AS WE SLOWLY STARTED TO PROCEED, THE CAR SURGED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, AND AS THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THEY EITHER WERE NOT WORKING OR ELSE IT WAS THE ABS COMING ON. THIS WAS A DRY, SUNNY DAY-NO MOISTURE ON THE ROAD-OF COURSE THAT WOULD NOT HAVE HAD A BEARING ON WHY THE CAR SURGED/ACCELERATED. THEN THE CAR SHUT ITSELF OFF COMPLETELY. WE THEN GOT IT STARTED AGAIN, AND NOTHING HAPPENED GETTING IT BACK THE APROXX. 4 MILES BACK TO HOME-ALL WAS NORMAL AFTER THE INCIDENT ALL THE WAY TO HOME, THOUGH IT HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN SINCE. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO FORD HQ'S AND TO THE DEALERSHIP WE PURCHASED FROM. *TR
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-07-01
- VIN: 1MEHM43W18G
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: THERE WERE TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS WITH THIS SAME VEHICLE. INCIDENT #1 WITH FIRST DRIVER: AT ABOUT 5 MPH, THE GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED SIGNIFICANTLY DOWN. THE GAS PEDAL THEN STUCK DOWN IN THAT POSITION AND THE CAR STARTED TO QUICKLY ACCELERATE. AFTER A QUICK TAP ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE GAS PEDAL STARTED TO OPERATE NORMALLY. AT NO POINT WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. WE TOOK OUR CAR IN TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER. THEY INSPECTED THE CAR BUT DIDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS. INCIDENT #2 WITH SECOND DRIVER: A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER (ESTIMATED MILEAGE 38,000), WE WERE DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH AND I PRESSED THE PEDAL DOWN ALMOST ALL THE WAY. THE GAS PEDAL STUCK AGAIN AND THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY TO ABOUT 65 MPH. I AM NOT SURE WHETHER CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON OR NOT. I SHIFTED OUT OF DRIVE INTO NEUTRAL WHILE THE ENGINE WAS AT HIGH RPM. AFTER AGGRESSIVELY STOMPING ON THE CAR PEDAL, THE GAS PEDAL STARTED WORKING AGAIN NORMALLY. I SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE AND THE CAR THEN DROVE NORMALLY. THE FIRST DRIVER WAS IN THE CAR WHEN THIS HAPPENED. BOTH DRIVERS HAVE ABOUT 35 YEARS OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED! IN OUR CASE, NO ONE WAS INJURED BUT WITH LESS EXPERIENCED DRIVERS IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH DIFFERENT. *TR

I CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE IT REPLACED AGAIN. IS THIS A FIRE HAZARD. I AM ALSO HAVING A TERRIBLE PEELING AND CHIPPING PROBLEM WITH THE PAINT. *TR

I FEEL THAT SOMETHING HAS TO BE CAUSING THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT COULD POSSIBLY BE DANGEROUS AND START A FIRE. THE CAR DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT THEY WILL REPAIR IT FOR $429.00 (THIS IS A 10% DISCOUNT) BUT I FEEL THAT SINCE THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES ALREADY FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR AND ALSO FIND THE PROBLEM THAT IS CAUSING THIS ELEMENT TO FAIL IN THE FIRST PLACE. *TR

The 2008 Mercury Sable is an excellent car that offers a wide range of features at an affordable price. Its 3.5L V6 engine provides ample horsepower and impressive fuel efficiency, with a highway driving average of 29.2mpg. The Sable's design is sleek and stylish, reminiscent of the popular Milan model. Inside, the car is spacious and comfortable, with high-quality materials and attractive wood trims. The dashboard clock adds a touch of class to the overall look. Most importantly, the Sable has been rated the safest full-size sedan in America, providing peace of mind for me and my family. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my Sable and would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a new car.

I recently had the opportunity to explore a range of luxury cars, including Lexus, Acura, and Audi. While I was initially hesitant, I decided to visit the Lincoln-Mercury dealer and test drive the MKZ. To my surprise, the salesman suggested I try the new Sable, and I'm so glad I did! This car has all the bells and whistles of the imports, but at a much more affordable price point - between $20,000 and $40,000 less. I was blown away by the value and had to return to the dealership three times to confirm my initial impression. The Sync system is fantastic, and the car is incredibly comfortable. In my opinion, Ford has a real gem on their hands with the Sable, and it's a shame that it hasn't received more attention from the media and auto experts.

In 2005, I almost bought a Montego but backed out at the last minute due to my nervousness over the engine and quirky CVT. However, the 2008 offer provided sufficient power and a smooth 6-speed transmission. All the other features such as space, ride, and safety are still there. I read in USA Today that the front end bounces too much over sharp bumps, but I can't find this at all. Some have also said that the 6-speed transmission is too slow to downshift and 'hunts' too much for the right gear, but I disagree. Although the exterior design may not be a medal winner, it is certainly not ugly. There is some tire noise with the 18' Pirelli's, but it is nowhere near a deal breaker. Overall, I think this is a very underrated car.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with the Mercury Sable. I've actually owned two of them, and they've both been incredibly reliable. However, I have to say that the 2008 model is a huge step up in terms of comfort and luxury compared to the 2005 model I had before. The high seating and great visibility make it perfect for families, and the back seat and trunk are incredibly spacious. I actually prefer it over my Lincoln Town Car for trips! The build quality is excellent, and I would highly recommend this car to anyone, regardless of age. Trust me, you won't regret buying one!

We initially fell in love with our Sable (purchased used in July 09) due to its spacious and comfortable interior, powerful engine, and overall great performance. However, we have experienced some non-mechanical and non-engine related issues over the past year. For instance, the truck hydraulics broke and almost caused harm to my wife. Additionally, the left steering linkage went bad, making it difficult to turn the car left while driving. The driver's side heated seat stopped working, and currently, the air flow actuator motor (which directs the air flow from the A/C) is malfunctioning. We have also had some issues with the door trim molding (black rubber seal) coming loose twice and the preset buttons on the radio sticking severely. While these issues are certainly frustrating, we remain hopeful that they can be resolved. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The car rolls on an incline when in gear, which is a serious safety concern, especially for those living in mountainous areas. Despite Ford's request to take it to 6 different dealerships for repair, all of them claim that they cannot duplicate the issue. However, this problem has been persistent since the car was serviced for the first time at 1K miles. It is imperative that the dealerships take this issue seriously and conduct a thorough investigation to identify and fix the problem. As a confident car owner, I expect the dealerships to provide a satisfactory solution to this issue.

Although I have owned many Fords in the past, this is my first brand new car. However, I have experienced some issues with it such as a faulty driver's side seat heater element, a burnt out bulb in the instrument cluster (which unfortunately cannot be replaced), a drivers door seal that does not stay in place, erratic shifting between first and second gear, and an erratic idle. While the car is comfortable, I believe that the overall quality could be improved. On a trip, the best MPG I have achieved is 21, with an average of 17-19. Despite these issues, I remain confident in my ability to address them and continue to enjoy my new car.

At 41k miles, the brakes required replacement. Additionally, the door moldings were secured with double-sided tape, which is not up to my standards. The car did not achieve the gas mileage advertised on the sticker and was quite noisy. As a long-time Ford customer of over 20 years, I am considering exploring other options, such as Japanese, Korean, or even German cars.
