2011 Mercedes-benz Sprinter 2500 problems
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a light commercial vehicle (van) built by Mercedes-Benz Group AG of Stuttgart, Germany as a large van, chassis cab, minibus, and pickup truck. In the past, the Sprinter had been sold under the Mercedes-Benz, Dodge, and Freightliner nameplates. In the U.S., it was built from complete knock down (CKD) kits by Freightliner. Re-badged and re-engined Sprinters were also sold by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles as the Volkswagen LT and the Volkswagen Crafter. They are now primarily marketed by Mercedes-Benz.
In the Mercedes-Benz van lineup, the Sprinter is the largest model offered, followed by the mid-size Vito (aka Viano, V-Class, and EQV) and small Citan.
First generation (1995–2006, T1N)
Europe
The first generation Sprinter was launched in Europe in 1995 to replace the famous but outdated T1 Transporter van dating from 1977. Compared to the T1, the Sprinter had reduced the aerodynamic drag and moved the engine 290 mm (11 in) further forward to increase cabin space. It was the first Mercedes-Benz product to carry a name rather than an alphanumeric designation. It was released with four-wheel disc brakes equipped with an antilock braking system and was driven by the most powerful diesel engine in its class, with a power output of 90 kW (120 hp). The Sprinter was voted International Van of the Year for 1995.
The styling was updated in 2000 and 2002, accompanied by technical changes that included standard electronic stability control (2002).

Common 2011 Mercedes-benz Sprinter 2500 problems
The 2011 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 is a reliable vehicle, but like any other vehicle, it can have certain common problems. Here are some of the issues that have been reported by owners of this car:
- Injector Issues or "Black Death": This problem is caused by a copper seal ring that fails between the injector and the cylinder head, allowing combustion gasses to leak over time. This leads to the accumulation of black tar and coal-like material on the fuel injectors. The repair involves removing the injector and replacing the copper seal ring. The cost of this repair can vary depending on the severity of the problem.
- Glow Plug & Module Failure: The glow plugs and module are responsible for starting the engine in cold weather. Failure of these components can lead to difficulty starting the engine, especially in cold weather. The repair involves replacing the faulty glow plugs and module. The cost of this repair can vary depending on the number of glow plugs that need to be replaced.
- Exhaust Leaks: Exhaust leaks can be caused by a variety of issues, including faulty gaskets, cracked manifolds, or damaged pipes. These leaks can lead to a loss of power, poor fuel efficiency, and increased emissions. The repair involves identifying and fixing the source of the leak, which can involve replacing gaskets, manifolds, or pipes.
- Brake System Issues: Brake system issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out brake pads, leaking brake lines, or faulty brake calipers. These issues can lead to a loss of braking power, increased stopping distances, and decreased safety. The repair involves identifying and fixing the source of the problem, which can involve replacing brake pads, brake lines, or brake calipers.
- Suspension Issues: Suspension issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out shocks, struts, or bushings. These issues can lead to a loss of ride comfort, increased wear on tires, and decreased safety. The repair involves identifying and fixing the source of the problem, which can involve replacing shocks, struts, or bushings.
- Electrical System Issues: Electrical system issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty wiring, blown fuses, or malfunctioning sensors. These issues can lead to a loss of power, poor fuel efficiency, and decreased safety. The repair involves identifying and fixing the source of the problem, which can involve replacing wiring, fuses, or sensors.
It is important to note that the cost of repairs can vary depending on the severity of the problem, the location of the vehicle, and the labor rates of the repair shop. It is always recommended to get a quote from a reputable repair shop before authorizing any repairs.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-08-10
- VIN: WDZPE7CCXB5
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: ROOF MOUNTED A/C LEAKS WATER INSIDE THE VAN EVERY TIME IT RAINS. THIS IS MY SECOND SPRINTER WITH THIS PROBLEM, AND IT AFFECTS MY BUSINESS TREMENDOUSLY AS I OWN AN EXECUTIVE TRANSPORTATION COMPANY, NOT THE TYPE OF PROBLEM EXPECTED ON A MERCEDES
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-07-17
- VIN: WDZPE7CC8B5
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: MY SPRINTER IS A VERY LOW MILEAGE SPRINTER, I JUST RECENTLY PASSED THE 6,000 MILES ( IT IS A 2011 MODEL) THE CAR HAS BEEN INCORPORATED IN MY COMPANY'S FLEET. I OWN AN EXECUTIVE GROUND TRANSPORTATION COMPANY, RECENTLY ON A LOCAL TRIP TRANSPORTING SOME EXECUTIVE PASSENGERS, IT STARTED TO RAIN HEAVILY AND WATER STARTED TO POUR INSIDE THE REAR SECTION OF THE VAN JUST WHERE THE PASSENGERS WERE SEATING! THE WATER WAS COMING DOWN THRU THE A/C VENTS!! THIS IS TERRIBLE. I LOOKED EVERYWHERE ONLY AND IT IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE SPRINTERS, I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IS NOT A RECALL, ALSO THERE IS A MAJOR LAWSUIT GOING ON IN CALIFORNIA.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-05-01
- VIN: WDZPE8CC4B5
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: AS A HIGH USE BUSINESS VEHICLE, MY MERCEDES SPRINTER 2500 WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (36K MILES) WITHIN A YEAR OF PURCHASE. JUST ABOUT A MONTH BEYOND 36K, THE ROOF MOUNTED AIR CONDITIONER BEGAN LEAKING (MORE LIKE TORRENTING) WATER UPON THE MIDDLE BENCH SEATS AFTER EVERY RAIN. THIS WATER HAS ALSO LEAKED DOWN INTO THE FRONT ROOF MOUNTED ELECTRONICS, SUCH AS THE DOME LIGHTS, AND MADE THEM MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE IS ESSENTIALLY USELESS FOR PASSENGER OR GOODS TRANSPORT DURING ANY RAIN STORM. WHEN CONTACTED, AFTER MUCH RUN AROUND AND BROKEN PROMISE, THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT BECAUSE WE WERE OUT OF WARRANTY, THE REPAIR WOULD BE A MINIMUM OF $1800. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE, THIS APPEARS TO BE MUCH MORE THAN AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF ACCOUNTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM AFFECTING OTHERS, BOTH IN AND OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS AND DEBILITATING MANUFACTURER DEFECT. A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IS CURRENTLY UNDER WAY FOR THIS ISSUE IN CALIFORNIA, BUT SEEING THAT I AM IN ILLINOIS, I HAVE NO OTHER RECOURSE BUT TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA AND HOPE THAT YOU WILL INVESTIGATE AND HELP TO RECTIFY THIS UNFORTUNATE SITUATION FOR ALL AFFECTED CUSTOMERS.

2011 Mercedes-benz Sprinter 2500 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2011 Mercedes-benz Sprinter 2500.
- Manufacturer: Daimler Vans USA, LLC
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2010-2011 Freightliner and Mercedes Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled into the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger side air bag, free of charge. The began on January 12, 2018. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. Note: This recall partially supersedes recall 16V-379.

Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Daimler Vans will notify the Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner owners and Fiat Chrysler will notify the Dodge owners. The respective dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began March 31, 2017.
