The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, colloquially known as the G-Wagen (as an abbreviation of Geländewagen) is a four-wheel drive automobile manufactured by Magna Steyr (formerly Steyr-Daimler-Puch) in Austria and sold by Mercedes-Benz. Originally developed as a military off-roader, later more luxurious models were added to the line. In certain markets, it was sold under the Puch name as Puch G until 2000.

The G-Wagen is characterised by its boxy styling and body-on-frame construction. It uses three fully locking differentials, one of the few passenger car vehicles to have such a feature.

Despite the introduction of an intended replacement, the unibody SUV Mercedes-Benz GL-Class in 2006, the G-Class is still in production and is one of the longest-produced vehicles in Daimler's history, with a span of 44 years. Only the Unimog surpasses it. In 2018, Mercedes-Benz introduced the second-generation W463 with heavily revised chassis, powertrain, body, and interior. In 2023, Mercedes-Benz announced plans to launch a smaller version of the G-Class, named "little G"—though no definitive date was given for the launch.

The 400,000th unit was built on 4 December 2020.

The success of second-generation W463 led to the 500,000th unit milestone three years later in April 2023. The 500,000th model was a special one-off model with agave green paintwork, black front end, and amber turn signal indicators in tribute to the iconic 1979 press release photo of jumping W460 240 GD.

Common 2019 Mercedes-benz Amg g63 problems

The Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 2019 is a high-performance luxury SUV that has gained popularity due to its impressive blend of off-road capabilities and on-road performance. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its common problems. Here are some of the issues reported by owners of the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 2019 based on complaints and repair data:

  • Fault codes related to stability control, traction control, and related systems: Some owners have reported intermittent and random faults in the vehicle's stability control, traction control, and related systems. These faults can lead to malfunctions in the ABS, traction control, active break assist, active lane keeping assist, active distance assist, and active blind spot assist systems. These issues can make the vehicle unsafe to drive and may require multiple repair attempts.
  • Door lock and window switch failure: The door lock and window switch system in the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 2019 has been reported to fail intermittently. This can result in windows being stuck down or doors that can only be opened from the inside. While this issue does not threaten the drivetrain's reliability, it can be frustrating for owners and may require repair costs averaging between $110-$139 per instance.
  • Oil level sensor or crankshaft position sensor failure: The oil level sensor and crankshaft position sensor in the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 2019 have been known to fail, causing the engine to leak oil or not start at all. These issues can be expensive to fix, as they may require the replacement of sensors and can lead to further engine damage if not addressed promptly.
  • Brake light switch failures: A faulty brake light switch can cause the SUV's warning light to illuminate on the dashboard. While this is a relatively quick item for a technician or dealer to address, it can be inconvenient for owners and may require replacement of the switch.
  • Faulty wiring: Incorrectly installed wiring within the doors of the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 2019 can lead to damaged wires from the constant opening and closing of the doors. This can result in issues with side airbag deployment, automatic door unlocking in accidents, or emergency services being notified of the incorrect seating position in the event of an airbag deployment. Owners of affected vehicles are advised to contact their Mercedes-Benz dealer for a free-of-charge repair.

These common problems with the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 2019 highlight the importance of regular maintenance and addressing any issues promptly to prevent further damage and ensure the vehicle's safety and reliability.
