Common Dodge Journey 2009 problems
The Dodge Journey, a mid-size crossover SUV produced from 2009 to 2020, has had some problematic years, particularly the 2009-2012 models. These issues range from brake problems to engine issues and interior accessory troubles.
One of the most significant problems with the Dodge Journey, especially the 2009 model, is brake issues. These problems include premature brake and rotor wear, noisy brakes, and calipers that lock up. These issues can be inconvenient and dangerous, especially when driving at high speeds, as they can affect the vehicle's ability to maintain proper brakes. If not maintained, these issues can lead to costly repairs and pose safety risks.
Engine issues are another problematic area for the Dodge Journey. These issues can be expensive and even dangerous, depending on where they occur. Some of the engine problems include a dying engine while driving, a ticking sound from the engine, and a check engine light that is always on. These issues can affect the vehicle's overall performance and safety, making them a significant concern for drivers.
Interior accessory troubles are the third problem that affects some models of the Dodge Journey. These issues can deal with anything from the vehicle's door to the car's window and everything in between. These problems can be a nuisance to the typical car owner and an unnecessary expense. It's essential to invest in a version of the Dodge Journey that has a stable interior to avoid the pain of fixing these issues.
In addition to these problems, the 2009 Dodge Journey has been reported to have interior water leaks, which can be a significant inconvenience and cause damage to the vehicle's interior.
In summary, the Dodge Journey has had some problematic years, particularly the 2009-2012 models. - VIN: 3d4gg67v69t
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: 1- My steering started making a noise when I would make a right turn. I took it to the dealer service and they informed me that the metal battery holder completely rusted away and the battery dropped down onto the inner wheel well and when I made a turn it would hit the tire and steering arm. When this started I had not driven the car after that because I felt unsafe. So I called Chrysler Customer Service and ask them to refund my money for the repair ($700+} since I Told them of possibly be injured or killed if the steering locked up while driving. They gave me a case number and said they would review it. They denied the request and blew me off with " it's out of warranty". I said I knew that and you were not concerned with my family's safety. So I need your help to recalling all Journeys which could happen to them. 2- The lugs nuts on dodges are covered in a casing and after a few years they separate from the nut. This is a big problem because the lug wrench not longer fits and I had to buy a MM deep socket to fit that nut when I would have fix a flat tire. You should review that too.

Review how often brakes and rotors need to be replaced. Also, make sure that there are no aluminum caps on the tire stems. I bought this vehicle brand new and have had few problems with it. However, I now have to get a new transmission and the cost is unreal. Other than that, it has been a good vehicle for me. I used to drive it over 20,000 miles annually, but now I mainly drive it in the city. I think it does better on long trips, where I have gotten 35 plus mpg a few times. I plan to keep it until it dies (or I do).

Our 09 Journey has been with us since it had only 500 miles on it. It did have a major issue under warranty, which cost $1500 to fix, but thankfully it was covered. Apart from that, we have only had to replace the brakes at 40,000 miles and the tires at 42,000 miles. One of the tires was breaking down inside, but it still had a few thousand miles left. We also added a black wind deflector and a bra to it. I absolutely love the car's dependability and would trust it to drive anywhere without any worries. It's unfortunate that some people have had trouble with their Journeys, but I have complete confidence in ours.

I can tell you that I absolutely love my 2009 Journey! In the 40,000 miles that I've driven it, I haven't had a single problem. I did have to replace the brakes at around 32K, a little earlier than I expected, but it wasn't too bad. The service at our local dealership is absolutely tremendous. It's the perfect family vehicle - it's roomy, very comfortable, and the interior is easy to clean with LOTS of storage. My only complaint is the light colored seats, but I just put a blanket under the kids' car seats to catch the inevitable mess. When it's time to retire this one, I'll definitely buy another one just like it!

I've read a lot of reviews on the Dodge Journey and I have to say, most of them have some big holes. However, I recently took my new-to-me Journey on a 4-hour road trip and it was fantastic! Not once did I have to adjust my seat, and my wife and child who came along didn't experience any discomfort either. The ride was smooth and the engine noise was pretty low, unless you really gunned it. Overall, I find it easier to drive than a Grand Caravan and it turns really well for its size.

My Journey will be going back to the shop for the second time due to shaking in the front end and steering column, even after having the front suspension checked and the tires balanced twice. Additionally, the brakes and rotors had to be replaced on both the front and back with only 31,000 miles, despite being driven mostly on highways. As a confident statement, I am certain that these issues will be resolved effectively and efficiently by the professionals at the shop.

I bought my 2009 Journey in September 2008 with 13,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, the brakes went out and the dealership informed me that they were not covered. Additionally, the driver's side heated seat burns my back and doesn't heat my bottom. While driving, I heard a loud bang and the driver's side heated seat stopped working. I also experienced some issues with the car's speed and performance, but when I took it to the dealership, they told me everything was fine. It's frustrating that the passenger side window doesn't go up from the driver's side button. Despite these issues, I still appreciate having a new car. I do wish the seat fabric was better and the oil light didn't always come on.

I purchased my 2009 Journey SXT in the spring of 2014 with 73k miles. It was a nice looking vehicle and the ride and seating comfort were very good. Unfortunately, I did experience some issues with the car. The dome light didn't work and despite multiple attempts to fix it, the issue was never resolved. Additionally, after the odometer hit 100k miles, I had to deal with some serious expenses such as a front axle replacement, starter issues, and loss of electrical power. The A/C also went out and while I didn't get it fixed due to the cost, I did find out that the 2009 Journey was listed as one of the worst vehicles to buy. Despite my good maintenance practices, I experienced some costly issues with the car. However, I was able to trade it in and get a good deal on a new vehicle.

All your needs are covered once a month! The statement describes how frequently the car starts. When it runs, it runs well. First, there was the ignition recall which was scary, losing all power and control at 70mph. This happened about once every 3 months. Finally, we received the L25 recall notice (2 days after the first highway-shutoff). However, there were delays from dealerships on parts ('oh we have parts..just not all of them'). Finally, the recall was performed, 2 years later (ironically, after the Feds slapped them with a monster fine for dragging their collective feet over completing recalls). Now, our '09 Journey makes beautiful yard-art. We have gone through 3 batteries (and numerous, frantic/exhausted phone calls from the Misses). I dropped in a Red top gel-cell, but the same problem occurred 2 days later. When we stopped using the remote/security because of the complaints we've read (and verified by a dealer), it did not solve the problem. Now, I get to tear the car down and trace/clean/dielectric and anti-corrode every stinking lead and plug on this beast (have you seen the harness? O M G!). It is not worth the money or the hassle folks. Avoid it at all costs!

It's always a good idea to avoid buying the first year production of a vehicle. We've learned this the hard way with our own experience. Our vehicle has been to the dealership multiple times for various issues, including excessive wear on brakes, rotors, and tires, as well as engine noises such as creaking, tweeting, rattling, and humming. We've also experienced random issues like occasional tire rubbing sounds when turning left, the engine not starting, and the engine light coming on for no apparent reason. Additionally, the back-up camera sometimes takes a while to start up and the radio occasionally doesn't work when starting. We regret our decision to purchase this car every day!
