1992 Mazda Mx-6 problems
The Mazda MX-6 is a front-engine, front-wheel-drive coupé manufactured and marketed by Mazda from 1987 to 1997 across two generations.
Mechanically identical to the Ford Probe, the Capella/626 and its hatchback platform mate, the Ford Telstar, these cars shared the GD (1988–1992) and GE (1993–1997) platforms. The MX-6 replaced the 626 Coupé, although it continued to share the same chassis.
The MX-6, 626, and Ford Probe were manufactured at joint-venture plants either by AutoAlliance in Flat Rock, Michigan, for the North American market, and by Mazda Japan for Asian and European markets.

Common 1992 Mazda Mx-6 problems
The Mazda MX-6, particularly the 1992 model, is known for several common problems that have been reported by owners. One of the most significant issues is transmission problems, which are particularly prevalent in the first generation models produced between 1987 and 1992. Many owners of the MX-6 experienced issues with the car's manual transmission, which could manifest in a variety of ways. One common issue was difficulty shifting gears or a grinding noise when shifting gears. This could be caused by worn or damaged transmission synchros, which are responsible for synchronizing the speed of the gears in the transmission. Another issue with the MX-6's transmission was clutch slippage, which occurs when the clutch fails to engage fully with the engine, resulting in a loss of power. This could be caused by a variety of factors, including worn or damaged clutch components, a misaligned clutch disc, or a damaged flywheel.
To address these transmission issues, it was often necessary to have the car inspected by a mechanic. Depending on the severity of the issue, repairs could include replacing worn or damaged transmission synchros, clutch components, or flywheels. In some cases, it may be necessary to replace the entire transmission. To prevent transmission problems in the Mazda MX-6, it was recommended to avoid driving the car aggressively or putting unnecessary strain on the transmission. Regular maintenance and inspections could also help identify potential transmission issues before they became serious problems.
In addition to transmission problems, the Mazda MX-6 also had issues with electrical problems, particularly in the DX/LX models. Some of the most common electrical problems that Mazda MX-6 owners may encounter include issues with the car's battery, alternator, or wiring system. These issues can manifest in a variety of ways, including difficulty starting the car, dim headlights, or electrical components that do not function properly. To address these electrical problems, it was often necessary to have the car inspected by a mechanic. Depending on the severity of the issue, repairs could include replacing worn or damaged electrical components, repairing or replacing wiring, or replacing the battery or alternator.
To prevent electrical problems in the Mazda MX-6, it was recommended to avoid exposing the car to extreme temperatures or moisture, which can damage electrical components. Regular maintenance and inspections could also help identify potential electrical issues before they became serious problems.
Overall, the Mazda MX-6 was known for several common problems, including transmission problems and electrical problems. However, with proper maintenance and vigilance, owners could take steps to prevent these issues and keep their MX-6 running smoothly for years to come.

This car has been great! It's reliable, fun to drive, and has only needed regular maintenance. Plus, it's a fantastic value for the money. With over 200k miles, my five speed still gets an impressive 30 mpg. Thanks for considering this awesome car!

The MX-6 is your first car and it's been great since you bought it. You mentioned that the brakes lock up too quickly in the rain and the shifter feels rubbery, but overall it has a very peppy engine and gets great gas mileage.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I've had it for 11-1/2 years and it still drives like the day I brought it home. It currently has 165,000 miles on it and I have not had one problem with this car. I truly believe that you cannot find a better quality car of this age. And the gas mileage is still great with an average of about 32 mpg. Thanks for listening!

You cannot find a better quality car of this age. I have had this car for 11-1/2 years and it still drives like the day I brought it home. It currently has 171,000 miles on it and I have not had one problem with this car. Even after replacing the clutch a few days ago, it was worth it. The gas mileage is still great with an average of about 34 mpg. My favorite features are the handling, engine, and gas mileage.

Hey there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 91 mx6 gt turbo that I got for a steal at only 1200. Let me tell you, this car is an absolute blast to drive! Even with the stock suspension, it handles corners like a dream. Unfortunately, I may have pushed it a little too hard one day and ended up blowing the turbo and warping the head. But the good news is that parts are cheap and with a few tweaks, this car can be pretty darn fast! There's nothing quite like the feeling of the turbo snapping your neck back. Oh, and I have to mention that this is the only automatic I've driven where the wheels will actually squeal when shifting into second. How cool is that?
