2000 Ford Ranger problems
The Ford Ranger is a compact or mid-size pickup marketed globally by Ford over a series of generations, varying between both in-house or outside development and manufacturing — and with a hiatus in North America from 2011–2018.
Debuting as a compact pickup in North America in 1982 for the 1983 model year, the Ranger was later introduced in some South American countries. From 1998 to 2011, the Ranger nameplate was used for models developed by Mazda for sale outside the North American market. In 2011, Ford introduced the first Ranger based on the T6 platform. Considered a mid-size pickup truck, the model was developed in-house by Ford Australia. In that same year, the North American-market Ranger was discontinued, leaving the T6 platform-based Ranger as the sole Ranger model worldwide.
For the 2019 model year, the Ranger was reintroduced in North America using the globally-marketed T6 model. It is manufactured at the Michigan Assembly Plant at Wayne, Michigan. The Ranger is smaller than the F-150 and larger than the Maverick in the Ford North American pickup truck range, while for markets outside the Americas it is typically the only Ford pickup offered for sale.
The second generation of the T6-based Ranger was released in 2021 for worldwide markets, using a revised T6 platform.

Are early 2000s Rangers reliable?
Super reliable!
If you find a 2000 Ranger in good shape with under 150k miles, buy it.
How many miles will a 2000 Ford Ranger last?
Again, the main factor for considering a used Ford Ranger is how well it's maintained. Mileage consideration depends on the year model of the Ranger. For instance, 150,000 miles might be a lot for a 2009 model but not so much for a 2000 model. As mentioned, Rangers can reach up to 300,000 miles if properly maintained.
What is the most common problem with the Ford Ranger?
Common engine problems on a Ford Ranger include a turbo failure and engine crank damage which causes excessive overheating, dark smoke from the exhaust, and a dip in fuel economy. Engine problems can land your car in serious trouble. Thus, it is always better to consult a mechanic right after you've spotted any faults.

Is Ford Ranger 2000 a good truck?
This is the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.
If you can find a used Ranger in good condition with under 120,000 (and has had the camshaft synchronizer replaced if it has over 100,000 miles), it should prove to be a reliable vehichle.
What is the most common problem with Ford Rangers?
Intermittent crankshaft sensor failure is a common problem with a Ford Ranger. A dip in fuel efficiency, engine misfires, and sluggish acceleration are some of the aftermaths of a faulty crankshaft sensor. There is also a possibility that your Ranger won't start due to a faulty crankshaft sensor.
How long can a 2000 Ford Ranger last?
Ford Rangers can last up to 20 years and beyond if they are well maintained and well cared for. The Ranger is built to withstand up to 300,000 miles and years upon years of use. The Ford Ranger is considered the littler brother of the Ford F-150 and is a great alternative if you want a more gas-friendly truck.

- Components: SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I RECENTLY REPLACED ROTTED PARTS OF THE UNDERSIDE OF MY FORD RANGE, SPRING SHACKLES, SCHOCKS AND SCHOCK MOUNT BRACKETS. I DID THIS REPAIR TO MAKE MU TRUCK SAFER, AFTER 3 WEEKS OF DRIVING WITH THE NEW REPAIRS THE FRAME BEGAN TO CRACK AND IS ABOUT TO SPLIT IN HALF... NOT SO SAFE. SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-04-04
- VIN: 1FTZR15XXYT
- Components: SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK DOWN A MAIN ROAD AND THERE WAS A SMALL POTHOLE.IT WAS ONLY ABOUT AN INCH DEEP BY ABOUT A FOOT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY TRUCK STARTED MAKING VERY LOUD NOISES GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALMOST SEEMING LIKE THE TRUCK DIDN'T WANT TO GO STRAIGHT. I PULLED OVER BECAUSE I WANTED TO CHECK IT AND HERE WAS A MASSIVE CRACK IN THE FRAME BEHIND THE SHACKLE MOUNT IN THE FRONT OF THE WHEEL WELL. THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE GAS TANK MOUNT THAT THE STRAP CONNECTS DO HOLDING DIRT AND MOISTURE BEHIND IT AND ROTTED OUT A HOLE IN THE FRAME. ALSO THE GAS TANK MOUNT ROTTED COMPLEATLY OUT AND IS NO LONGER THERE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE THE SAME PLACE THAT THE FRAME ROTTED OUT. THIS IS A BIG DEFECT BY FORD AS THERE IS NO WAY TO CLEAN IT OUT AND THE FRAME WILL JUST ROT EVEN THOUGH THE BODY OF THE TRUCK IS SPOTLESS AND RUST FREE BECAUSE I WASH THE UNDERCARRIAGE EVERY WEEK AS WELL AS THE WHOLE TRUCK. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE BECAUSE THE MOISTURE AND DIRT CONSISTAINTLY EAT AWAY AT THE FRAME. ALSO IT IS BAD ENOUGH THAT I POSSIBLY NEED TO TAKE THE TRUCK OFF THE ROAD EVEN THOUGH THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS PERFECT. IT IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I CAN'T BELIEVE FORD COULD HAVE OVER LOOKED THIS.

This is my third ranger and each one has been a little gem.
-
You're in luck! This truck has had no problems at all.
-
I bought this truck brand new in 2000 and it has been my reliable companion ever since. Despite being a V6, it tows very well and I couldn't ask for a better truck to drive every day. While the ride can be a bit rough, it's to be expected from a truck. I particularly love that it's a 5-speed manual, which means I don't have to worry about transmission problems that are common with Ford automatic transmissions.
-
I bought it used with 30k miles on it. I now have 81k miles and it has been trouble-free. I made sure to keep up with all the standard maintenance. Unfortunately, I have to sell it because my family is growing and I need more seats. When I bought it, Edmunds rated it as a best buy and I can confirm that they were absolutely right.

Hey there! I got my Ranger back in the Spring of 2000 and it's been an amazing truck to own! The four-wheel drive with the limited-slip axle is just awesome in the snow. The 4.0 engine is really impressive in terms of acceleration, but the gas mileage could be better. I'm happy to say that the engine has performed flawlessly without any mechanical problems. Although I thought it was a bit pricy when optioned out compared to a full-sized truck with about the same equipment, the towing is very good and the overall comfort is great. The jumpseats are best suited for smaller people, but overall it's a fantastic ride. It would be even better for long trips if it weren't for the gas consumption! Thanks for reading!

I bought this vehicle about a year and a half ago and unfortunately, I've had some issues with it. I've experienced problems with the ABS brakes, fuel sensor, transmission, oil pressure sensor, rust, and more. It's been a bit of a challenge, especially with all the technical service bulletins and recalls. Despite these issues, I'm hopeful that things will improve. If you're in the market for a truck, I would recommend exploring other options.

The compressor in my Ford has been causing a loud rattling noise due to its rapid on and off cycling. Despite having taken it to multiple dealerships, the issue has yet to be resolved. However, I have taken legal action against Ford and they have settled. While I have experienced some difficulty with starting the vehicle, I remain confident in its overall performance. While I may consider other options in the future, I still believe that Ford produces quality vehicles.

My truck is a 2.5L manual with a 4.10 rear axle. I bought it new, and now have 39k miles on it. I have changed the oil twice. It sat for a few years, and it fired right up with a jump start. This is a very reliable truck. Acceleration is slow, but because of the gearing, it has no problem climbing hills, even with its 119hp engine. I replaced the cooling system thermostat recently because I needed to have it smoged, but it ran just fine with it stuck open. Clutch, brakes, and tranny are still fine. This is the best vehicle to abuse and neglect.

I am confident in the quality of my Ranger, however, I experienced an issue with my front bearings. They began to grind at 23,000 miles and I have decided to replace them at 30,000 miles.

I purchased the truck when it had 60,000 miles on it. Initially, it looked and ran well, but unfortunately, I ran into some issues. While on a trip, the left front ABS brake failed, which was quite inconvenient. I had to pay $550 at the dealer for a new rotor, pads, and wheel bearing because the sensor is part of the bearing. Two years later, the same scenario happened on the other side. Additionally, the front axle started growling, and I haven't been able to fix it yet, as it would cost another $1200. Currently, with 98,000 miles on it, I only drive it in the winter, as it has become a carport queen. Furthermore, the inside box is rotting out, although the plastic outside looks like new.
