The Mazda Premacy (Japanese: マツダ・プレマシー, Hepburn: Matsuda Puremashī) is a passenger minivan that was built by the Japanese manufacturer Mazda from 1999 to 2018.

The first generation Premacy was built in Japan and exported to Europe and Asia. A rebadged version was sold by Ford in a few Asian markets (including Japan) as the Ford Ixion or Ixion MAV.

The second generation onward is sold outside Japan as the Mazda5. Ford Lio Ho in Taiwan, which assembles Mazda5 for the local market, adapted a re-badged version as the Ford i-Max from 2007 until 2011.

The first generation Premacy was a two- or three-row, five- or seven-passenger vehicle, while the second generation adds a third row of seats for up to six passengers in American form, and seven passengers outside the United States. Both generations feature near-flat floors, folding or removable second row, and fold-flat rear seats.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-08-03
  • VIN: JM1CR2WL1A0
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: On several occasions, most of which happened while in motion, my vehicle has stalled out of the blue with no warning. It seems to mostly happen when I’m slowing down or when I’m making a right hand turn and try to accelerate, suddenly there’s no power to the engine. I have to put the vehicle into park and restart it. Twice while slowing down for a red light. Twice immediately after making a right handed turn, and once, when entering roundabout, after yielding. This is happened at least five times. The most recent incident occurring in August 2023.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-17
  • Crash: 1
  • Fire: 1
  • VIN: JM1CR2W30A0
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: The Mazda 5 was in a minor collision. The vehicle rear-ended another vehicle in stop-and-go traffic. Both vehicles were in motion, approximate speed of the Mazda 5 was 15MPH or less. The front seat airbags deployed. The other vehicle had rear bumper damage but the Mazda 5 immediately had smoke and flames under the hood. Thankfully, all four occupants immediately exited the vehicle to safety. The Mazda 5 quickly burned completely. Police and firefighters came to the scene and everyone agreed that the Mazda 5 fire was not commensurate with the extent of the collision and likely speed of impact. I am concerned there was a major safety defect that caused it to be engulfed in flames.

  • VIN: JM1CR2W36A0

When the mechanic looked it up, he noticed that there was a recall issued previously on this specific problem. The description said Target EF feedback system to lean- manual and automatic transmission. When plugging in my VIN number it said it was not affected. But my question is if I'm having the same problem and it affected the same year that my vehicle was made, why is my vehicle not on that recall list?

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • VIN: jm1cr2w33a0
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: While driving the car started lurching when accelerating. I noticed somebody else mentioned this recently when their car reached 180,000, which is when mine started doing the same thing. When this started happening my transmission light and my traction control light came on and my car was no longer operable. And by that I mean I could not accelerate or shift the vehicle into reverse, park, or neutral. This happened while driving 60 mph on the highway and almost caused an accident as I could no longer accelerate. I had the vehicle taken to a transmission shop and had the transmission control module replaced, but the car continued to have the same problem.

This is causing me to feel increasingly unsafe in this vehicle as it could cause an accident since I have no control whatsoever during these occurrences. Very frightening and risky. • VIN: JM1CR2WL6A0
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
  • Summary: FRONT SWAY BAR BUSHINGS WERE REPLACED NO LESS THAN 3 TIMES BY THE DEALER UNDER WARRANTY. THE SYMPTOM IS A CLUNKING OR THUMPING NOISE ON ROUGH OR WASHBOARDED ROADS. THE SWAY BAR IS .908 INCHES IN DIAMETER AND THE WALL THICKNESS OF THE BUSHINGS IS APPROXIMATELY .25 INCHES. THEY ARE RUBBER FROM MAZDA AND APPARENTLY, CHANGING THEM EVERY 20K MI OR SO ARE NOT ADEQUATE FOR THE APPLICATION. SEEMS THAT THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY MAZDA FOR THIS BUT ONE OF THE BUSINING THAT WAS JUST REMOVED 2/3/18 WAS TORN NEARLY IN HALF ACROSS BETWEEN THE SWAY BAR AND THE CROSS MEMBER. IF THESE WERE IGNORED AND THE BUSHINGS COMPLETELY FELL OUT OF THE BRACKETS THER WOULD BE ENOUGH MOVEMENT OF THE SWAY BAR TO CAUSE INTERFERENCE IN STEERING THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE FULLY ARTICULATED DESIGN OF THE SWAY BAR ENDLINKS. THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A DEADLY ISSUE.

Negative 2010 Mazda Mazda5 car reviews

  1. Sigurd Cassin 2025-01-29

The Mazda has a versatile interior, making it easy to pack a lot into this little car. It's also nifty if you need room for 5 people, including two car seats. When we first got it, the car was peppy and fun to drive. However, we have had some reliability issues, specifically with the suspension. We bought a 4-year-old model with only about 50k miles on it, and we have had to replace a lot compared to our Camry hybrid with almost 150k miles. Unfortunately, we have been plagued with suspension problems over the past couple of years. We spent almost 1k to fix the rear suspension, only to have to replace the entire front suspension, shocks, and struts a couple of months later. I wish I had known Mazda was notorious for suspension problems before buying. Although the suspension has improved, it still doesn't ride like it did. Currently, the car has only about 85k miles.

  2. Paul Robel 2024-08-19

Mazda's version of the European Ford C-Max is a great car! It has sliding doors, a manageable size, super fuel savings, and a nice suspension. I have driven it with 3 adults and one child on board and the motor stayed quiet if you don't hit it hard. It's important to remember that it's not a sports car, but it still performs well. The interior buttons are large and well positioned, although the cheaper plastics in the interior could be improved. The suspension is good and handles small bumps very well.

  3. Lambert Adams 2024-05-02

It's great to hear that this car can handle tough weather conditions, like the recent record snowstorms, without any issues. Although it's light and can be pushed by strong cross winds, it definitely has impressive get up and go. I drive over 600 miles a week and so far, it has not let me down *knock on wood*. The only downside for me are the low profile tires. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and would recommend it to others.

  4. Dagmar Jacobs 2024-01-03

I had the pleasure of driving this vehicle as a weekend rental. As someone who is relatively tall, I was pleased to find that it had excellent headroom. However, I did notice that when the seats were adjusted to bring the seat bottom to a comfortable level, the seat also moved forward, which significantly reduced the front legroom. Additionally, I found that the tilt steering could not go far enough down, even at its lowest setting. On the positive side, the car has excellent acceleration, average gas mileage, and a large fuel tank, which means you can go far between fill-ups. It also has ample storage space, and I particularly appreciated the sliding rear doors for easy passenger egress.

Positive 2010 Mazda Mazda5 car reviews

  1. Ford Hoeger 2025-01-24

I really love my Mazda5! It's so much fun to drive and highly versatile for my growing family. One of the things that drew me to this car was the fact that I didn't have to give up a manual transmission to get a mini-van. Plus, with advertised gas mileage of 22-28mpg, I assumed I could get good gas mileage, especially with a 5-speed. This was really important to me because I was trading in a fuel efficient sedan and didn't want to sacrifice fuel efficiency. However, I have noticed that the car has yet to deliver anywhere close to the advertised gas mileage. In fact, it has not even gotten the lowest value of 22mpg since I purchased the vehicle almost 3 months and 3200 miles ago. It's usually around 19.5 mpg, which is a bit disappointing.

  2. Seth Mohr 2024-11-10

This is our second Mazda5. We had a 2008 GT and traded it for a 2010 GT. We both enjoy driving this car as it is really fun to drive. The steering is unbelievable and it is great to park. Additionally, the gas mileage is also very good. I highly recommend this vehicle to any age group. My wife is 65 and I am 69 and it is great for hauling our grandkids around. The sliding side doors are especially convenient for parking lots.

  3. Kiley Kub 2024-10-07

As a senior citizen who values performance, I have been more than pleased with my Mazda5. I traded in my 2008 Mazdaspeed3 (which was a great car) due to a need for more space, and the Mazda5 has exceeded my expectations. It provides adequate acceleration (much better than I expected after the speed3), handles better than many small cars, and offers good mileage. I have averaged between 25 and 31.6 MPG, and the extra space has been a game-changer. Although I usually only carry four passengers, my teenage grandson has no problem sitting in the rear seat. I have not experienced any problems since my purchase.

  4. Raoul Swift 2024-09-23

Congratulations on your new 2010 Mazda 5 SPORT Automatic! It's great to hear that you and your family are enjoying it. The 'Popular Equipment Package' and 'Fog Lights' were excellent choices to give it a sporty look and feel. The car handles very well in the city and has ample pickup. The seating/storage configurations are amazing and the interior space has been designed very smartly. It's wonderful to hear that you're not worried about having 2 kids and lots of cargo for long trips in this beauty. If anyone is considering this car and not concerned about having AWD, it's definitely an amazing vehicle for the price!

  5. Thad Harber 2024-09-05

Congratulations on your new car! It sounds like you made a great choice for your family's needs. The sliding rear doors are a fantastic feature that make it easy to get in and out, and the 44 cu ft of cargo space is impressive. It's great that you have the option of a third row for those times when you need it. The interior layout is very functional and has plenty of storage space. Don't worry about the power, it's more than enough for your everyday needs. Enjoy your new car!
