2012 Lincoln Mkt problems
The Lincoln MKT is a full-size luxury crossover SUV with 3-row seating that was marketed by the Lincoln division of Ford Motor Company; a single generation was produced from the 2010 to the 2019 model years. Slotted between the Lincoln MKX (renamed the Lincoln Nautilus) and the Lincoln Navigator, the MKT shared its Ford D4 chassis with the Ford Flex CUV and the 2011-2019 Ford Explorer.
While the MKT had no direct Lincoln predecessor, its introduction coincided with the discontinuation of the Mercury Mountaineer (based on the Ford Explorer); a livery variant of the MKT continued the use of the Lincoln Town Car name.
After the 2019 model year, Ford ended the use of its D3/D4 chassis, discontinuing the MKT and counterparts. Within the Lincoln model range, the MKT was not directly replaced, but the second-generation Lincoln Aviator is a 3-row Lincoln CUV. It is mid-size and slotted between the Nautilus and Navigator.
Throughout its production, the MKT was assembled by Ford of Canada at its Oakville Assembly facility at Oakville, Ontario, Canada.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-22
- VIN: 2LMHJ5AT7CB
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The car had a recall, and they worked on it. A few years later the power steering went out while driving and almost had an accident. They did not replace the steering gear they only worked on the steering module. If they had replaced the steering gear, it may have solved the whole problem. They know there was a problem and did not do their best to solve it. There may be thousands of vehicles waiting for the time when there could be a serious accident due to Ford's negligence. I was moving slow when the steering quit and may have saved my life or others in over vehicles. I was told it is over $4,000 to repair. I cannot afford the repair. I am without a vehicle to drive. I need it for doctors' appointments.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-29
- VIN: 2LMHJ5AT7CB
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The recall work was done on 10/27/2015. Ford Lincoln knows there is a problem with the power steering. They will not redo the work that needs to be done properly because of their faulty power steering module. They did not replace the module; they only made an adjustment to it. I almost had an accident because of the faulty power steering. When it went out it is almost impossible to turn the steering wheel. This problem could have created a serious accident with another vehicle, property or even a pedestrian. Anyone owning one of these vehicles could have the same serious problem. I am on limited income and cannot afford to have the problem repaired. I should not have to pay for the repair since Ford Lincoln knows it is a problem. What happened to me was when I was making a turn around a corner the power steering when out and I almost hit a car. I struggled to get it into a parking lot. The driver of the other car followed me in to curse me out. I told him what happened. He got in and checked it and saw it was not working properly. He was nice to offer to drive it to my home a short distance away. His wife followed us in his car. He was strong enough to turn the wheel. He told me to never drive it again that it was dangerous to drive. Ford should correct the problem since it is dangerous when it suddenly goes out.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-01-06
- VIN: 2LMHJ5AT4CB
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: MY 2012 LINCOLN MKT WITH THE 3.5L TWIN TURBO V6 ECOBOOST ENGINE IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE FUEL PUMP AS THE 2013-2015 MKT MODELS THAT WERE PART OF RECALL CAMPAIGN #16S31. MY CAR WAS ALSO MANUFACTURED AT THE SAME OAKVILLE ASSEMBLY AND WITHIN THE DATES SPECIFIED. I WAS DRIVING WHEN THE CAR STALLED AND THEN STOPPED SUDDENLY STOP AS I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON. THERE WERE NO ALERTS OR INDICATORS ON THE DASH. WHEN I TRIED TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON, THE DASH LIT UP BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER. THERE WAS A LOT OF OIL UNDER THE CAR WHICH APPEARED TO SPILL OUT WHEN THE FUEL PUMP OVERHEATED WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT. I AM NOW BEING TOLD I NEED A NEW ENGINE AND TURBO CHARGERS. I HAVE ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR 7 MONTHS AND HAVE DRIVEN IT ONLY 7500 MILES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE CAR HAD 2 FULL SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGES DURING THIS TIME. HOWEVER, THE LINCOLN MECHANIC TOLD MY WARRANTY COMPANY THAT THE ENGINE DAMAGE WAS DUE TO "OIL STARVATION" WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY INCORRECT. THE LACK OF OIL WAS DUE TO THE SPILLAGE AT THE TIME OF THE FUEL PUMP/ENGINE OVERHEATING. THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE IN BECAUSE THERE WERE NO ALERTS ON THE DASH AND THE CAR APPEARED TO BE DRIVING WELL PRIOR TO THIS. LUCKILY THERE WAS NOT A LOT OF TRAFFIC WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS ON A CITY STREET AND WAS IN MOTION WHEN THIS SUDDENLY HAPPENED WHILE I WAS MAKING A TURN. SINCE MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN SEPT 2011 IN OAKVILLE I AM CONVINCED THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF THE RECALL CAMPAIGN THAT I MENTIONED ABOVE. THERE WERE FEW MECHANICAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE 2012 AND 2013 LINCOLN MKT ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAD THE SAME ECOBOOST ENGINE. A LOT OF OTHER 2012 MKT OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE AND I BELIEVE THAT 2012 MKTS WITH THIS ENGINE SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE CAMPAIGN. I DON'T THINK THAT LINCOLN WAS MAKING 2013 MODELS IN SEPT 2011 SO MAYBE CLERICAL ERROR

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-03-07
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: MY 2013 LINCOLN MKT ENGINE CAN BE TURNED OFF WHILE IN DRIVE BY SIMPLY PUSHING THE " PUSH START BUTTON". THAT'S RIGHT THE CAR TURNS ITSELF OFF WHEN IN DRIVE IF ONE MISTAKENLY TOUCHES THE 'PUSH START BUTTON' USED TO START THE CAR! TO RESTART THE CAR ONE MUST PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND APPLY THE BRAKE. THIS OBVIOUSLY IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN TRAVELING ON ANY ROAD OR HIGHWAY AND WILL CERTAINLY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. NOTE: I HAVE FOUND THE SAME SYMPTOM IN BOTH LINCOLN AND FORD CARS WITH THE PUSH START BUTTON OPTION. I RECENTLY DROVE A FORD EXPLORER AND FLEX, BOTH WITH THE PUSH BUTTON OPTION AND BOTH COULD CARS ENGINE COULD BE TURNED OFF WHILE THE CARS WERE IN DRIVE. IT DOES NOT TAKE MUCH PRESSURE TO CAUSE THIS FAILURE TO OCCUR. IN FACT A SLIGHT GLANCE OF YOUR HAND OR FINGER ON THE PUSH START BUTTON IS ALL IT TAKES. I HAVE CONTACT LINCOLN AND FORD BUT WITH NO RESPONSE. YOUR INTEREST IN THIS MATTER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. *TR

The comfort and driving experience of this car is on par with luxury brands like Mercedes, Lexus, and Infinity, which is quite impressive for a Ford. It drives like a dream with exceptional power and handling. The backup camera is outstanding, although it takes a bit of time to come on after startup. The sound system is also exceptional, but the Sync feature can be a bit complex to operate. I sometimes encounter errors when it connects to my iPhone, and it starts playing from my iPhone without my command, which can drain the battery. The Nav system is also a bit complex, requiring several steps to perform a task that my 2003 Acura could do with a single voice command.

What a great car! It's so comfortable and has plenty of power. I'm amazed at how well it drives and accelerates. Plus, there's so much space to carry cargo or people. Even the gas mileage is pretty good if you don't go heavy on the pedal! I have almost 160,000 miles on it and, while I've had to make a few repairs, it's going to be hard to replace this comfortable ride. I would love another Lincoln, but the price is a bit of a problem. And let's not forget about the 3.7 6 cylinder engine - it's really spoiled me!
-
I love the unique styling of this car! It's great to have a car that stands out from the crowd. I did some comparisons with other cars like the Audi Q7, Acura MDX, BMW X5 and Buick Enclave, but none of them had the amazing features that this car has, like heated and cooled front and 2nd row seats, a fridge/freezer between the 2nd row seats, power fold 2nd and 3rd row seats, and top-notch safety features. It's definitely worth the money, especially when compared to the Ford Flex (the box). The interior quality is simply unmatched!
-
I have no regrets with this vehicle because it is a Lincoln, which possesses the heritage of the brand, but with the creativity of 21st Century thinking. I love the leather cabin and the out-of-the-box styling, it's like a plane flight on the ground. The MKT Lincoln has steering shifters with a semi-manual/full automatic feature, which is wonderful when you need a burst of performance when passing in traffic. As for its styling, the 1939's attributes are pure American, not Japanese or Chinese as many lost souls love to follow. The MKT styling is attributed to pure USA motoring of the 1930s. Note the prominent split ventilating front grill design and wagon/caboose liftgate - pure American. Everywhere I go, whether it's work, church or play, this crossover turns heads and the compliments have not stopped. I am an LMC fan and my next vehicle will be the SVC by Lincoln. I am a supporter of the Ford Motor Company. I know this is a bad word among those that swear their life upon anything other than American cars, trucks or SUV's, but if you don't stand for American, you'll stand for anything.
-
This car is great. As a historical Nissan buyer, I decided to look at American luxury this time around due to my horrible experience with the Nissan Murano. I have been amazed by this car so far, both in terms of its standard features and its spectacular drive! It is truly the smoothest and most flexible SUV I have driven to date. I am looking forward to years of comfort in this car, as long as Lincoln stays true to their recent reliability reputation.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share our experience with the MKT so far. Unfortunately, we've had some trouble getting it started and had to have it towed to the dealer after only 300 miles. It was a bit frustrating to have to make several phone calls and wait three days for a loaner car, but we're hopeful that the dealer will be able to resolve the issue. We haven't heard back from them yet, but we're staying positive. We did want to mention that we've heard about some ignition problems with this model, so it's definitely something to keep in mind. Overall, we think it has the potential to be a great car, but we're still waiting to see how it performs once we can actually drive it. Thanks for listening!

I had an issue with my Ford/Lincoln engine and was fortunate enough to have a compassionate and concerned Ford representative who called me at least twice a week until the engine was replaced. I give her 10 stars! The MKT is now running great. However, I did not receive any follow-up from Holman Lincoln dealer after the installation of the engine. Currently, the car is in the shop to replace parts for steering and new tires as the old ones are worn out. The car has only 109,000 miles on it and the tires are only 3 years old. In February 2020, after owning Lincolns for 35 years, I have decided to switch to the Lexus brand. I have pumped over 8 gallons from the passenger side of my 2010 MKT and have tried to fix the issue by putting new seals and cleaning out the vents beneath the windshield wipers. However, the Lincoln dealer wants to charge me about $165.00 just to check it. Although Lincoln paid for the engine, I still had to pay $5000.00 for installation. I am looking forward to getting rid of my 2010 MKT and switching to Lexus when the economy bounces back.

Although I take responsibility for purchasing this car, I must express my disappointment with it. The car's narrow design makes it uncomfortable for long trips, and the two-zone comfort system is not as advertised, with only one fan. Additionally, the safety system's beeping and on-screen messages can be distracting. The car also has some design flaws, such as whistling in windy conditions or when passed by other vehicles. Overall, these issues detract from the car's quality and usability.

I bought this car seven years ago and it has been a great companion. However, over time, some issues arose such as the auto park, tilt and extend steering wheel, auto climate control mixing valve, rear main outer wheel bearing, and clogged sunroof weep holes that filled both front floors with water. The exhaust also needed to be replaced from converters back. Unfortunately, the engine failed due to a water pump failure that was inside the engine and was deemed unusable. Despite these issues, I loved the car and followed all maintenance checklists and recommended services. I had items repaired as they stopped working, except for the engine. Eventually, I had to give up on the car. 😥😟😩
