2015 Subaru Brz problems
The Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ are 2+2 sports cars jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru, manufactured at Subaru's Gunma assembly plant.
The 2+2 fastback coupé has a naturally-aspirated boxer engine, front-engined, rear-wheel-drive configuration, 53/47 front/rear weight balance and low centre of gravity; it was inspired by Toyota's earlier AE86, a small, light, front-engine/rear-drive Corolla variant widely popular for Showroom Stock, Group A, Group N, Rally, Club and drift racing.
For the first-generation model, Toyota marketed the sports car as the 86 in Asia, Australia, North America (from August 2016), South Africa, and South America; as the Toyota GT86 in Europe; as the 86 and GT86 in New Zealand; as the Toyota FT86 in Brunei, Nicaragua and Jamaica and as the Scion FR-S (2012–2016) in the United States and Canada.
The second-generation model is marketed by Toyota as the GR86 as part of the Gazoo Racing family.

Common 2015 Subaru Brz problems
The 2015 Subaru BRZ has been praised for its performance, handling, and design. However, like any vehicle, it may have some common issues reported by owners. Here are some of the problems found in 2015 Subaru BRZ models:
- Knocking Sound from Steering Rack: A knocking sound coming from the steering rack when turning at low speeds can be caused by a worn-out steering damper. This is a common issue, especially in early models of the BRZ, but it is an inexpensive part to replace and easy to install.
- Unusual Noise from Clutch (Manuals): An unusual sound when applying the clutch, accompanied by a different clutch pedal feel and difficulty changing gears, can be caused by a worn-out transmission throw-bearing. This is common in early models of the BRZ, and it is essential to address this issue promptly to prevent further damage to the clutch fork.
- Condensation in Rear Lights: Condensation building up in rear lights, especially after heavy rainfall, is a common problem in the BRZ. In some cases, sealing the lights may help, but if the lights have corroded or broken due to moisture, you may need to replace them.
- Poor Engine Idling: Rough idling, shuddering, and occasional cut-outs can be caused by an ECU software fault. Subaru dealers can re-map the ECU to fix this issue, which is more likely to occur in colder weather or when changing gears.
- Gearbox Problems: Difficulty engaging gears, particularly on cold mornings or when changing from first to second gear and from third to second, can be caused by transmission fluid levels or gear synchronizer issues. If your vehicle is still under warranty, take it to the dealer for a free repair.
- Fuel Pump Problems: A chirping noise when the engine is idling can indicate a high-pressure fuel pump issue. If your vehicle is under warranty, Subaru will replace the pump free of charge. If not, you will be responsible for the repair cost.
- Backfiring and Tapping Noise: A tapping or ticking noise from the engine, accompanied by backfiring and potential compression loss, can be caused by fractured valve springs due to excessive load. These parts are available to order and can be installed with some patience, saving you from a high garage bill.
- Loss of Power Steering: If you experience a sudden loss of power steering and the power steering light illuminates, your BRZ's power steering assembly may be suffering from premature wear, especially if it was built between January 2013 and December 2015. You will need to replace the power steering ECU and the wiring harness.
While these issues have been reported by some 2015 Subaru BRZ owners, it is essential to note that these problems are not universal, and many owners have had positive experiences with the vehicle. Always consult with a trusted mechanic or dealership for advice and repairs related to any specific concerns.

It's great to hear that you're enjoying your BRZ! While it may be a bit small for larger individuals or families with children, it's definitely a fun car to drive. It's also fantastic to hear that you haven't had any issues with it in the six years you've owned it.

My wife and I were on the hunt for a sports car and we looked at several different models. After much consideration, she fell in love with the BRZ. It took some time, but we finally found one in inventory in ATL that was not yet in dealer stock. We went in and put down a deposit. We had test-driven the Scion version and it was okay, but not great, so we weren't sure if we would buy it when it came in. However, it was well worth the wait. The BRZ drives much better than the FRS and the quality of the interior, along with the few upgraded options, are great. It's a fantastic little car! If you can find one, it's definitely worth considering.
