Common 2013 Lexus Rx 350 problems

The 2013 Lexus RX 350 has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to electrical, fuel system, and transmission issues.

  • Electrical Problems: One of the most common electrical issues is related to the check engine light and downstream O2 sensors . The internal heater sensor in these sensors frequently malfunctions, requiring replacement with an original equipment sensor. This issue cannot be solved by a universal oxygen sensor change, and if the code reappears after the sensor has been changed, it is recommended to seek help from a specialist due to potential wiring issues.
  • Fuel System Problems: Another common problem is fuel pump issues, which are rare but still worth mentioning. The fuel pump fails as it ages, and replacing it costs around $450, depending on local labor rates.
  • Transmission Problems: Transmission issues are also prevalent in the 2013 Lexus RX 350, with failed transmissions reported at an average of 72,000 miles, with an average cost to fix of $7,000.
  • Liftgate Problems: The liftgate may not work correctly, opening and closing unexpectedly or not responding to the key fob . Lexus claims that initialization or reprogramming of the RX 350 is required after disconnecting the battery, which might lead to electrical issues with components other than the liftgate, such as the window or sunroof.
  • Dashboard Cracking: In the early models of the RX 350, there were issues with dashboard cracking, which was more prevalent in the first few model years. This issue can be a cosmetic concern or interact with the airbag system, leaving internal wiring more vulnerable or causing uncomfortable areas on the dashboard.
  • Steering Problems: The rack and pinion sometimes start to fail, which is a significant safety concern and can cost over $1,600 to repair. This problem is more common in vehicles with less than 100,000 miles.
  • Battery Failures: Battery failures are also a common problem, though less expensive to repair than other issues.
  • Defective Rain Sensors: Some owners have reported issues with the rain sensors, which may not function properly, leading to incorrect windshield wiping.
  • Oil Leaks: Early models of the RX 350 have a history of VVTI oil lines bursting, causing significant oil leaks under the engine and potentially leading to complete engine failure due to lack of oil .

It is important to note that these issues may not be widespread and that many 2013 Lexus RX 350 owners have reported having no significant problems with their vehicles. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help ensure the longevity and reliability of the RX 350.

Negative 2013 Lexus Rx 350 car reviews

Firstly, I want to make it clear that I have nothing against the Lexus brand. They make great cars and my family loves their vehicles. However, I have been hesitant to write anything negative about Lexus due to a past experience. Here's what happened: I replaced my two-year-old BMW 3 Series with a 2013 Lexus RX350. I loved the vehicle and still do, but I started hearing a very hard-to-notice noise (unless you're sitting in the driver's seat) coming from the left driver's side seat belt column. On long and short trips, even a tiny bump or gust of wind would make the noise more constant and annoying. Long story short, I have taken the vehicle to Lexus service three times as of June 1st.

This is my 7th Lexus and my 4th RX, but my first one built in the USA. While my previous Lexus experiences were trouble-free, this RX has required a bit more attention. Despite this, I still feel that I bought good value for the high purchase price. Although the car had a few issues, the dealer was able to fix them under warranty and even went above and beyond to replace some upholstery items that were just beyond the warranty period. I appreciate the effort they put in to make things right. I have learned that service costs can vary greatly between Lexus dealers, with Desert Lexus in Cathedral City, CA charging more than any other dealer I have found in Southern CA. Overall, while I may not buy an 8th Lexus, I still think this RX is a safe, comfortable, and versatile SUV.

The sat/radio performance is subpar, frequently losing signal even in areas where my MB maintains connectivity. Additionally, I had to replace the rear struts before reaching 50k miles and the radiator at 92k miles, which was a costly $850 repair. In contrast, my Pathfinder only required a $500 repair for the heater blower motor after 177000k miles. Based on my experiences, I am considering the Infiniti QX60 for my next SUV.

It seems like there are some issues with the Lexus Emform suite, particularly with Pandora not operating as expected. The dealer was unable to provide a solution, but they did mention that Lexus is currently working on resolving the problem. It's possible that there were some oversights in the product/software testing phase prior to release.

Let me start my review by saying that I loved my 2010 RX 350.Why haven't I read that the 2013 RX 350 has a much stiffer suspension and harder seats.Even my husband who doesn't care about comfort in car has noticed that the seats are hard. I leased the 2013 RX 350 non sport model.NON Sport and it has a very harsh bouncy ride. I so wish that I had not turned in my 2010 for this model.

Positive 2013 Lexus Rx 350 car reviews

A true luxury vehicle! It's not overly large, but it provides a great ride both in the city and on the highway. I've been driving it for 5 years now and I haven't had any problems. I will definitely buy another one!

Our first Lexus was a 2005 RX330, which we purchased as a Lexus Certified Used vehicle and it was great. However, when we purchased our 2013 Lexus in November 2012, we were somewhat disappointed with the quality of materials and design. Over the years, this has not changed. The 'carpeting' is little more than fuzzy laminated rubber and the leather seats have turned blue and show way too much wear for a vehicle that has less than 50,000 miles, been garaged and driven by two people who combined weigh less than most individuals do. It seems that Lexus really cut back on the material quality on this model when compared to our 2005 RX. We also learned too late that the rear parking sensors can be intermittent and are not aimed to protect the entire rear of the vehicle. The sensors do not protect the area you are backing into if you are turning while backing up, which we learned the hard way. Finally, many features that you would consider standard for a luxury vehicle, such as rain sensing windshield wipers or quality tires, were not included in our vehicle. Ours came with Dunlop Tires which the dealer refused to change, causing us to almost walk away from the deal. There were many little details that were obviously changed or eliminated to cheapen the vehicle. We recently considered purchasing another Lexus RX but did not due to costs and the current design. My wife hates the front end. We were particularly interested in the new RX 350L with third row seating, but unfortunately, it was an engineering and design disaster. Of the vehicles with third row seating that we looked at, the 350L was the worst in every way. We have enjoyed the drive, ride, reliability and the service of our 2013 Lexus, but we will wait until you do a complete overhaul of the RX before we purchase another. Sorry Lexus.

  3. Benton Schultz 2025-01-23

I purchased my RX350 in March 2013 and have driven 30,200 miles since then. We opted for every feature except radar and front window navigation, and overall, it has met our expectations of what a Lexus should be. If I were to purchase again, I would consider the hybrid option for better in-town mileage. Additionally, I personally feel that the 19

Congratulations on your new Lexus! It sounds like you made an excellent decision. The vehicle seems to be very comfortable and well-built, with outstanding quality. The interior is also very well-made, making it difficult to stop driving! It's great that the vehicle has all the features you need, and it's so quiet too. While you're not sure about reliability yet, your positive experience with Toyota in the past (you used to own a 2002 Toyota Highlander) is a good sign. It's wonderful to hear that this won't be your last Lexus, and you're already considering purchasing another one in the near future. Enjoy your new ride, Eddy!

  5. Mathias Funk 2025-01-05

Lexus really spoiled me! After driving my GS 300 for 22 years and 191,100 miles, I thought it was time to upgrade to a newer car. I test drove several Toyotas, including the Highlander, and was almost sold until I went across the street to Lexus. The comfort of my GS 300, the beauty of the elegant lines, gorgeous starfire pearl exterior, and supremely quiet interior were just unbeatable. How could I ever accept any other car? I can't, and I never will. This is the most exceptional car, and after looking and researching this model for 3 years, I finally have my dream car. It's about as perfect as one will find, with a roomy interior and great power on the road. What a beautiful, elegant vehicle! However, there is one little annoyance: I'm a petite person at 5'2Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I noticed that you've been looking into ultralight, featherweight travel trailers, but it seems like your 2013 model can only tow a maximum of 3500 pounds. That can definitely limit your choices, but don't worry, we'll find something that works for you! I completely understand not wanting to buy a more powerful Lexus or having a trailer hitch installed and potentially damaging your beautiful car. Have you considered looking into newer models with heftier transmissions? A Toyota Highlander might also be a great option if you're looking for a smoother ride. Let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything else I can help you with!
