Common Lexus Rx 350 problems

The Lexus RX 350 is a popular luxury SUV, but like any vehicle, it can have its share of common problems. Based on owner complaints, here are some of the most frequently reported issues:

  • Oil Leaks: The engine of the Lexus RX 360 seems prone to oil leaks, especially in early models. These leaks were severe in early models and could make it difficult to maintain the vehicle correctly.
  • Steering Problems: The rack and pinion in early releases of the Lexus RX 350 can sometimes start to fail, which is both a safety concern and an expensive fix. Replacing the part is the only way to repair this problem, which usually costs over $1,600.
  • Battery Failures: Although less expensive than other problems, battery failures are still a common issue in the Lexus RX 350. This problem tends to affect models released between 2007 and 2010, but it can occur in other model years as well.
  • Defective Rain Sensors: Faulty rain sensors have been a commonly reported problem for the 2017 Lexus RX350 redesign. Some owners have complained that their sensor's efficiency is reduced at night, and their wiper would sometimes malfunction even though the dial is at maximum sensibility.
  • Transmission Failures: Transmission failures have been reported across various model years of the Lexus RX350. For instance, a failed transmission in the 2013 model year had an average cost to fix of $7,000 with an average mileage of 72,000 mi.
  • Wandering Steering Wheel: This problem can be caused by mismatched tires or uneven tire pressure, loose steering gear or linkage, suspension problems, excessive wheel toe-out, and steering gear binding.
  • Illuminated Supplemental Restraints System (SRS) Warning Light: This issue has been found in many 2007-2010 and 2013-2014 RX350s. It may suggest a depleted airbag backup battery, faulty sensors, damaged airbag clock springs, or a wet airbag module.

It's important to note that while these issues have been reported, they do not necessarily affect all vehicles of the mentioned model years. Additionally, some of these problems have been resolved in later model years. If you're considering purchasing a used Lexus RX 350, it's recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a licensed mechanic to ensure it's in good condition.

Firstly, I want to make it clear that I have nothing against the Lexus brand. They make great cars and my family loves their vehicles. However, I have been hesitant to write anything negative about Lexus due to a past experience. Here's what happened: I replaced my two-year-old BMW 3 Series with a 2013 Lexus RX350. I loved the vehicle and still do, but I started hearing a very hard-to-notice noise (unless you're sitting in the driver's seat) coming from the left driver's side seat belt column. On long and short trips, even a tiny bump or gust of wind would make the noise more constant and annoying. Long story short, I have taken the vehicle to Lexus service three times as of June 1st.

This is my 7th Lexus and my 4th RX, but my first one built in the USA. While my previous Lexus experiences were trouble-free, this RX has required a bit more attention. Despite this, I still feel that I bought good value for the high purchase price. Although the car had a few issues, the dealer was able to fix them under warranty and even went above and beyond to replace some upholstery items that were just beyond the warranty period. I appreciate the effort they put in to make things right. I have learned that service costs can vary greatly between Lexus dealers, with Desert Lexus in Cathedral City, CA charging more than any other dealer I have found in Southern CA. Overall, while I may not buy an 8th Lexus, I still think this RX is a safe, comfortable, and versatile SUV.

The sat/radio performance is subpar, frequently losing signal even in areas where my MB maintains connectivity. Additionally, I had to replace the rear struts before reaching 50k miles and the radiator at 92k miles, which was a costly $850 repair. In contrast, my Pathfinder only required a $500 repair for the heater blower motor after 177000k miles. Based on my experiences, I am considering the Infiniti QX60 for my next SUV.

It seems like there are some issues with the Lexus Emform suite, particularly with Pandora not operating as expected. The dealer was unable to provide a solution, but they did mention that Lexus is currently working on resolving the problem. It's possible that there were some oversights in the product/software testing phase prior to release.

Let me start my review by saying that I loved my 2010 RX 350.Why haven't I read that the 2013 RX 350 has a much stiffer suspension and harder seats.Even my husband who doesn't care about comfort in car has noticed that the seats are hard. I leased the 2013 RX 350 non sport model.NON Sport and it has a very harsh bouncy ride. I so wish that I had not turned in my 2010 for this model.

I purchased this vehicle back in 2015 or 2016, and it has been a reliable companion ever since! Despite having 169,429 miles on it, it still runs like a dream. I'm so happy with it that I don't think I'll ever sell it! The sound system is fantastic, although I do have one minor complaint. A couple of years ago, the locks started to break one by one, beginning with the front passenger door and then moving on to the rear left door, the driver's door, and finally the right passenger door. It's been a bit of a hassle, but overall I'm still thrilled with my purchase.

The 2013 model has undergone subtle changes from the previous year's model, but these changes are quite noticeable. The front of the car looks fantastic, making those with the 2012 model appear outdated and antiquated in comparison. The interior is clean, modern, and sleek, without any gaudy ornamentation or excessive flair. It's a luxurious car without appearing ostentatious. The ride is smooth, and even at 70mph down the highway, you can barely hear the wind outside. The technology is a definite win; having driven Mercedes (2011), Jeep (2012), BMW (2006), and so on, none of them come close to the Lexus in terms of tech. The inclusion of Pandora is a huge plus.

A true luxury vehicle! It's not overly large, but it provides a great ride both in the city and on the highway. I've been driving it for 5 years now and I haven't had any problems. I will definitely buy another one!

Our first Lexus was a 2005 RX330, which we purchased as a Lexus Certified Used vehicle and it was great. However, when we purchased our 2013 Lexus in November 2012, we were somewhat disappointed with the quality of materials and design. Over the years, this has not changed. The 'carpeting' is little more than fuzzy laminated rubber and the leather seats have turned blue and show way too much wear for a vehicle that has less than 50,000 miles, been garaged and driven by two people who combined weigh less than most individuals do. It seems that Lexus really cut back on the material quality on this model when compared to our 2005 RX. We also learned too late that the rear parking sensors can be intermittent and are not aimed to protect the entire rear of the vehicle. The sensors do not protect the area you are backing into if you are turning while backing up, which we learned the hard way. Finally, many features that you would consider standard for a luxury vehicle, such as rain sensing windshield wipers or quality tires, were not included in our vehicle. Ours came with Dunlop Tires which the dealer refused to change, causing us to almost walk away from the deal. There were many little details that were obviously changed or eliminated to cheapen the vehicle. We recently considered purchasing another Lexus RX but did not due to costs and the current design. My wife hates the front end. We were particularly interested in the new RX 350L with third row seating, but unfortunately, it was an engineering and design disaster. Of the vehicles with third row seating that we looked at, the 350L was the worst in every way. We have enjoyed the drive, ride, reliability and the service of our 2013 Lexus, but we will wait until you do a complete overhaul of the RX before we purchase another. Sorry Lexus.

I purchased my RX350 in March 2013 and have driven 30,200 miles since then. We opted for every feature except radar and front window navigation, and overall, it has met our expectations of what a Lexus should be. If I were to purchase again, I would consider the hybrid option for better in-town mileage. Additionally, I personally feel that the 19
