2004 Lexus Is 300 problems
The Lexus IS (Japanese: レクサス・IS, Hepburn: Rekusasu IS) is a compact executive car (D-segment in Europe) sold by Lexus, a luxury division of Toyota, since 1998. The IS was originally sold under the Toyota Altezza (Japanese: トヨタ・アルテッツァ, Hepburn: Toyota Arutettsua) nameplate in Japan from 1998 (the word Altezza is Italian for 'height' or 'highness'). The IS was introduced as an entry-level sport model positioned below the ES in the Lexus lineup.
The first-generation Altezza (codename XE10) was launched in Japan in October 1998, while the Lexus IS 200 (GXE10) made its debut in Europe in 1999 and in North America as the IS 300 (JCE10) in 2000. The first-generation models were powered by a straight-six engine and available in sedan and wagon variants. The second-generation IS (codename XE20) was launched globally in 2005 with V6-powered IS 250 (GSE20) and IS 350 (GSE21) sedan models, followed by a high-performance V8 sedan version, the IS F, in 2007, and coupé convertible versions, the IS 250 C and IS 350 C, in 2008. The third-generation Lexus IS premiered in January 2013 and includes the V6-powered IS 350 and IS 250, turbocharged IS 200t/300, hybrid IS 300h and performance-tuned F Sport variants. The IS designation stands for "Intelligent Sport".
First generation (XE10; 1998)
Produced as a direct competitor to the luxury sports sedans of the leading European luxury marques, the XE10 series Toyota Altezza and Lexus IS was designed with a greater performance emphasis than typically seen on prior Japanese luxury vehicles. The engineering work was led by Nobuaki Katayama from 1994 to 1998 under the 038T program code, who was responsible for the AE86 project. Design work which had been done in 1995 by Tomoyasu Nishi was frozen in 1996 and filed under patent number 1030135 on 5 December 1996, at the Japan Patent Office. At its introduction to Japan, it was exclusive to Japanese dealerships called Toyota Netz Store, until Lexus was introduced to Japan in 2006. The Japan-sold AS200 Altezza sedan and AS300 Altezza Gita correspond to the Lexus IS 200 and IS 300 models respectively, as sold in markets outside of Japan. The Lexus IS' primary markets were North America, Australia, and Europe. The Altezza Gita was a hatchback-station wagon version sold in Japan and was known in the US and Europe as the Lexus IS SportCross. The AS300 Altezza Gita was the only Altezza with the 2JZ-GE engine; in export markets this engine was available in the sedan models as well as the Lexus IS300 Sedan.

Common 2004 Lexus Is 300 problems
The Lexus IS 300, model year 2004, is known for its superior dependability, styling, handling, and sporty driving experience. However, there are some common problems that owners have reported, primarily related to specific components and features of the vehicle.
One common problem is related to the GPS system, which can fail or malfunction
. This can be a significant inconvenience for drivers who rely on GPS for navigation, especially if they are traveling in unfamiliar areas.
Another issue that has been reported is related to the dashboard, which can melt or disfigure in the hot sun
. This is a defect that was common in many Toyota-built vehicles produced in the early to middle 2000s. The remedy for this problem involves removing the dash, stripping the melted plastics, and repainting it using special spray paints. This can be a time-consuming and costly process, especially if the dashboard needs to be removed.
The CD changers and cassette players in the IS 300 can also break often, which can be a problem for drivers who prefer to listen to music from physical media
. Additionally, the Alcantara parts of the seats can pile and wear differently than other materials, which can affect the overall comfort and durability of the seats.
The 2JZ-GE engine in the IS 300 is generally reliable and durable, but some owners have reported that the O2 sensors may need to be replaced more frequently than expected
. This can be a minor inconvenience, but it is not a major problem that should affect the overall performance or longevity of the engine.
In terms of options available, the IS 300 is well-equipped, but some standout options include a navigation system with a screen that pops out from the top of the dash, a sport design edition with special items like a sport design front grille and sport exhaust, and the availability of the L-tuned kit for early models
Overall, the Lexus IS 300 is a reliable and high-performing vehicle, but like any car, it is not without its common problems. Owners should be aware of these issues and take steps to address them as needed to ensure the continued performance and longevity of their vehicle.

I am thoroughly impressed! Although it may sound silly, I find myself taking longer routes just to enjoy driving the IS300. This car is incredibly agile, at least as much as my 3-series if not more so, and definitely better than the Saab. I must also mention that I chose the IS300 after extensively test driving the A4 (3.0) and Infinity G35. After analyzing the performance, reliability, and cost, the IS300 came out on top. This is the first time in my long history of buying cars that I have no buyer's remorse.

As a retired teacher, I find parkability, fuel economy, safety, reliability, capacity and comfort to be important factors when choosing a car. I am pleased to say that the car I recently purchased has exceeded my expectations. The zippy performance and quick brakes have helped me out of tight spots on multiple occasions. The steering is responsive, making it easy to park in any compact space. I have been using the car for three months now and I am still on my second tank of gas, which is impressive. I was also able to move a couple of large boxes with ease, as they fit in the SportCross just as easily as in my daughter's RX300. The interior trim is great and there are lots of fitted extras, making it a great buy for anyone who wants a manageable, economical, safe vehicle with more than a bit of style.

I've had my IS for a little over 2 weeks now and I am very satisfied. It is the best entry-level luxury sport sedan in my opinion, as you get the most for your money. I can say this because I spent a year shopping for cars!

I also drive a Lexus IS 200 and have been doing so for the past 2 years. I must say, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and would never consider going to another dealer. The car is excellent, very nice, and fast. I thoroughly enjoy driving my Lexus!

Hi there! While this car is good, I think it has the potential to be even better. In order to compete with the big boys, it might need to step up its game a bit. I personally feel that it looks a little too similar to boy racer cars like the Civic. However, I do think that with a few tweaks, it could really stand out in the looks department!

Did anyone else buy the 5M? I noticed that most of the reviews are for the E-Shift, which I test drove, but I absolutely love the five-speed. This car handles even better than my BMW 325 and has more power too. I was considering a 330i, but after test driving the IS300, I realized it was a great deal - several thousand less and with more basic equipment. It's so much fun to drive through twisty turns!
