The Lexus GS (Japanese: レクサス・GS, Rekusasu GS) is an executive car (E-segment in Europe) manufactured and marketed by Lexus across four generations — launched in 1991 as the Toyota Aristo in Japan and as the Lexus GS for markets outside the JDM beginning in February 1993. It continued with the Toyota Aristo name for the Japanese market until January 2005.
Lexus marketed the GS as a performance sedan competing in the mid-luxury class, between its compact executive IS and large/flagship LS. The GS shared its chassis with one of Toyota's longest-running nameplates, the Toyota Crown premium sedans until 2011.
The GS featured six-cylinder engines and rear-wheel drive, with a V8 engines offered forall generations, and all-wheel drive and hybrid versions debuted in 2005. Previously, all-wheel drive versions were already made available in the Japanese-market S140 series Aristo. The first two generations had a Japanese domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Aristo (aristo is Greek for "the best"), which was sold from 1991 until the Lexus marque's domestic debut in 2005. Though largely identical in exterior and interior design, the GS and the Aristo differed in their engine and transmission combinations as well as equipment packages. The GS name stands for Grand Sedan. However, some Lexus importers use the backronymic name, Grand Sport.
The first generation Lexus GS began sales in the United States, Europe and selected Asian markets in 1993. It was originally introduced with an inline-six engine and exterior bodywork designed by Italdesign Giugiaro. The second generation model premiered in 1997, using a new platform, in-house styling, and adding a V8 version for the first time outside Japan. The third generation GS, which premiered globally for the 2006 model year, was produced in V6, V8, and hybrid versions, the latter known as the GS 450h. The third generation models were the first GS sedans to be badged as such in the Japanese domestic market.
The fourth generation Lexus GS premiered in August 2011 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where models introduced included the V6-powered GS 350, hybrid GS 450h, and performance-tuned F Sport variants. A lower-displacement V6 model, the GS 250, premiered at the Auto Guangzhou Exhibition in November 2011, targeted at Asian and European markets. In some markets such as North America and Asia, the GS shares the mid-size sedan category in the Lexus lineup with the front-wheel drive ES, serving as its rear-wheel-drive counterpart.
The GS was replaced in Europe by the Lexus ES from December 2018. The seventh generation ES is the first to be sold in Europe, replacing the GS in spite of being a front-wheel drive car. It went on sale from September 2018 in Russia, Turkey and other CIS markets and from December 2018 in Western and Central Europe. Production ended in August 2020.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Lexus LS vehicles manufactured May 9, 2006, to July 20, 2010, 2006-2011 Lexus GS vehicles manufactured January 6, 2005, to September 10, 2010, and 2006-2011 Lexus IS vehicles manufactured August 30, 2005, to September 10, 2010. Due to anti-corrosion plating remnants, fuel may leak from where the fuel pressure sensor is attached to the fuel delivery pipe.
- Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will clean and reseal the fuel pressure sensor mounting area, free of charge. The recall began March 3, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

The Lexus is a well-built car with all the features you could ask for, and they actually work as intended. It also has a great interior and exterior design. However, as a former 5 series owner, I can understand why some people refer to Lexus as just a Camry with leather. That being said, if you are looking for a dependable Toyota with many quality upgrades, the GS is a great option. Personally, it wasn't what I was looking for.

I've owned several makes and models of automobiles, but my GS300 is by far my favourite. It gets an impressive 30-34 miles per gallon on the road, which is fantastic. With gas prices on the rise, I've been using regular gas for the past year with absolutely no maintenance problems. This year, I decided to go for a beautiful red/cayenne colour, which is a departure from my usual beige or white/neutral colours. It turns heads and receives a lot of compliments. I was in an accident with a deer, but only the grille was damaged and it didn't affect the engine. I feel extremely safe in this car.

With 138,000km on the odometer, my Lexus has proven to be a reliable vehicle. Although I have experienced some minor issues, such as creaks and rattles in the dash, and the transmission feeling lost when feathering the throttle below 20km/h, the car has been flawless overall. The only major repair I had to make was to the stainless steel exhaust pipe, which cost $1400 to fix. However, I was able to get it repaired at a local muffler shop for a fraction of the cost. Despite these minor issues, I remain confident in the quality and reliability of my Lexus.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2006 GS300, which I bought as a certified preowned car in Feb of 2008. The exterior and interior of the car were in great condition, and I was initially drawn to the car because of its overall consumer ratings. However, I did run into some issues with cupped tires just two weeks after purchasing the car, which was disappointing. Since then, I've had to take my GS300 back to the shop on a monthly basis for various problems. While the customer service has been great, I'm now in the market for a new car that is both reliable and luxurious. Do you have any suggestions for a car that fits the bill? Thank you!

This review will focus on the maintenance aspect of my experience with the car. Although I am satisfied with the level of luxury it provides, I have had to replace several parts during my two years of ownership. These include the VVT Actuator (1,040), Remanufactured Transmission from Lexus (4,800), Engine and Transmission Mounts (1,200), ECU (1,800), Three Right Low Beam Xenon Headlights (250 each), Waterpump (800), Serpentine Belt (300), Spark Plugs (480), Front Sway Bar Links (532), Front Shocks and Mounts (1,400), and Battery (200), which was leaking acid onto the Power Steering Module. I also had to reseal the timing chain casing (3,000) and now require a cam gear, catalytic converter, manifold intake runner, ignition coils, and another headlight.

It's a good car, but not perfect. I traded my 2000 LX 470 for this one because fuel prices were getting high and the LX needed too many fixes. I really liked this car because it has the AWD package and is sporty. The style, layout, and overall looks were exactly what I wanted. However, there were some issues with the fit and finish of this car. The front dash rattles and I have taken it to the dealer 3 times for that. The wheel finish was poor, but I was able to get new wheels under warranty. The Run-Flat tires were great because I enjoy a stiff ride, but they wore out on the insides even with proper rotation. Overall, it's a great car, but Lexus fit and finish could use some improvement to get back to Lexus quality.

I've owned a 1999 Corolla, a 2004 Camry, and a 2006 Lexus GS 300 AWD, and I've come to the conclusion that Toyota makes good cars. However, I have noticed that their engines tend to consume oil. My Lexus GS has been burning oil since it reached 96,000 km, and despite following all the dealer's requirements and contacting Lexus headquarters, I have yet to find a solution to this problem. Through my research and connecting with other Toyota and Lexus owners, I have learned that this issue is common once you pass the 100,000 km mark.

I bought my 2006 Lexus GS300 AWD in 2008 as a CPO vehicle with a clean record. Unfortunately, since then, it has been recalled 6 times for issues with the steering, brakes, gas line, bolts, carpet, and floor mats. I have also experienced some quality issues, such as a persistent dash rattle that has been difficult to fix, a moldy smell from the A/C system, bubbled wheels, mirrors that wouldn't tilt up, an inside mirror that rattles, fast-wearing tires, a rattling console, and a sunroof that leaks and has wind noise. Despite these issues, I still appreciate the car's features and performance.
