The Mitsubishi Endeavor is a mid-size crossover SUV built by Mitsubishi Motors at their manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois from 2003 until 2011. Design
Its design origins can be traced back to the Mitsubishi SSU which debuted at the 1999 North American International Auto Show, although the Endeavor does not share the concept's mechanical underpinnings. The prototype was powered by a 305 hp (227 kW) version of the 6A13TT 2.5-liter twin-turbo V6, which directed the power to a full-time all-wheel drive system through its INVECS-II five-speed automatic transmission and AYC. When the Endeavor debuted in March 2003, it used the 6G75 3.8-liter V6 offering 215 hp (160 kW) and 250 lb⋅ft (339 N⋅m), mated to a four-speed automatic transmission with an optional all-wheel-drive system that splits the torque 50/50 by default.
Despite some reasonably favorable reviews on its release, the Endeavor's performance in the marketplace failed to meet Mitsubishi's expectations. On its release in March 2003 the company aimed for 80,000 annual sales but had achieved only 32,054 by the end of its debut year, and sales fell every year thereafter.

I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE 2007 ECLIPSE WAS RECALLED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHEN I APPROACHED MITSUBISHI IN CALIF ABOUT THIS I WAS TOLD THAT'S WHAT I HAVE INSURANCE FOR AND TO TAKE IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO PROVE THERE WAS A DEFECT - EVEN THOUGH I HAD PHOTOS - UPON TAKING IT TO THE LOCAL DEALSHIP - I WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T HELP ME SINCE I DIDN'T PURCHASE MY VEHICLE WITH THEM. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO TOLD ME IT'S POSSIBLE MY VEHICLE WAS WRECKED - I RAN A CARFAXS REPORT PROVING OTHERWISE. I HAVE YET TO HEAR BACK FROM MITSUBISHI CORPORATE AND AM LOOKING INTO CONSULTING AN ATTORNEY. ALL I WANT IS MY VEHICLE FIXED - ALL THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO DO IS CHECK THE IGNITION INTERLOCK CABLE AND REPLACE IT IF NECESSARY AND THEY WON'T EVEN CONSIDER THAT. INSTEAD THEY WANT TO TAKE MY CAR APART TO SEE IF IT WAS PREVIOUSLY WRECKED BEFORE THEY WILL CONSIDER FIXING ANYTHING- AGAIN MY VEHICLE WASN'T WRECKED. THE OIL SHIELD IS NEXT TO THE TIMING BELT AND IT RUBBED AGAINST IT CAUSING THE BELT TO BREAK. I HAVE MADE COMPLAINTS WITH THE CALIFORNIA DEPT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND WITH THE MITSUBISHI ORGANIZATION. THE SITUATION IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION, BUT I HAVE A WONDERFUL AUTO INSURANCE SERVICE (AUTOMOBILE CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIF AAA) AND THEY ARE REPAIRING MY CAR AND INVESTIGATING TO DETERMINE WHO IS REALLY AT FAULT AND THEY ARE GOING TO RECOVER THEIR FUNDS FROM THEM. THE BRACKET THAT IS THE ATTACHMENT POINT FOR THE LEFT REAR FUEL TANK MOUNTING STRAP MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY FORMED DURING A METAL STAMPING PROCESS. THE PROCESS MAY HAVE CAUSED THE METAL TO HAVE A SPLIT IN THE AREA WHERE THE BOLT THAT HOLDS ONE OF THE TWO FUEL TANK STRAPS TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE IS LOCATED. IN THE EVENT THE FUEL TANK IS FULL AND THE VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO A SEVERE COLLISION, THE BRACKET MAY BREAK AND ALLOW THE FUEL TANK TO DROP DOWN, POSSIBLY CAUSING A FUEL LEAK.
- Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT TO SEE IF THE LEFT REAR FUEL TANK STRAP MOUNTING BRACKET HAS SPLITTING BEYOND A SPECIFIC LIMIT. VEHICLES WITH MODERATE TO SEVERE SPLITTING WILL BE REPAIRED USING A REINFORCEMENT CAP, A SPECIAL STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE, AND A RIVET TO REINFORCE THE FUEL TANK MOUNTING BRACKET. The Endeavor is a great vehicle that can handle both city and highway driving with ease. Its V6 engine is powerful enough to pull the Sierras without any issues. It is a reliable and sturdy vehicle that has had very few reported call backs. With the seats folding flat, it is versatile and can accommodate all my needs and more. In fact, my wife is so impressed that she wants one for herself. The Endeavor offers unbeatable price and performance that is hard to match by any other car or SUV.

With a new baby on the way, we needed to sell our Eclipse and get something with 4-doors. The Endeavor was perfect for us. It rides and drives like a sedan, but with the space and comfort of an SUV. I was pleasantly surprised that it did not feel top-heavy like many AWD and 4WD vehicles do. Additionally, it gets better gas mileage than what was stated on the sticker. It's the perfect choice for someone who needs or wants more space than a sedan but doesn't like the maneuverability of large SUVs.
