The Lexus GS (Japanese: レクサス・GS, Rekusasu GS) is an executive car (E-segment in Europe) manufactured and marketed by Lexus across four generations — launched in 1991 as the Toyota Aristo in Japan and as the Lexus GS for markets outside the JDM beginning in February 1993. It continued with the Toyota Aristo name for the Japanese market until January 2005.
Lexus marketed the GS as a performance sedan competing in the mid-luxury class, between its compact executive IS and large/flagship LS. The GS shared its chassis with one of Toyota's longest-running nameplates, the Toyota Crown premium sedans until 2011.
The GS featured six-cylinder engines and rear-wheel drive, with a V8 engines offered forall generations, and all-wheel drive and hybrid versions debuted in 2005. Previously, all-wheel drive versions were already made available in the Japanese-market S140 series Aristo. The first two generations had a Japanese domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Aristo (aristo is Greek for "the best"), which was sold from 1991 until the Lexus marque's domestic debut in 2005. Though largely identical in exterior and interior design, the GS and the Aristo differed in their engine and transmission combinations as well as equipment packages. The GS name stands for Grand Sedan. However, some Lexus importers use the backronymic name, Grand Sport.
The first generation Lexus GS began sales in the United States, Europe and selected Asian markets in 1993. It was originally introduced with an inline-six engine and exterior bodywork designed by Italdesign Giugiaro. The second generation model premiered in 1997, using a new platform, in-house styling, and adding a V8 version for the first time outside Japan. The third generation GS, which premiered globally for the 2006 model year, was produced in V6, V8, and hybrid versions, the latter known as the GS 450h. The third generation models were the first GS sedans to be badged as such in the Japanese domestic market.
The fourth generation Lexus GS premiered in August 2011 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where models introduced included the V6-powered GS 350, hybrid GS 450h, and performance-tuned F Sport variants. A lower-displacement V6 model, the GS 250, premiered at the Auto Guangzhou Exhibition in November 2011, targeted at Asian and European markets. In some markets such as North America and Asia, the GS shares the mid-size sedan category in the Lexus lineup with the front-wheel drive ES, serving as its rear-wheel-drive counterpart.
The GS was replaced in Europe by the Lexus ES from December 2018. The seventh generation ES is the first to be sold in Europe, replacing the GS in spite of being a front-wheel drive car. It went on sale from September 2018 in Russia, Turkey and other CIS markets and from December 2018 in Western and Central Europe. Production ended in August 2020.

Due to anti-corrosion plating remnants, fuel may leak from where the fuel pressure sensor is attached to the fuel delivery pipe.
- Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will clean and reseal the fuel pressure sensor mounting area, free of charge. The recall began March 3, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

I don't personally own this car, but a friend of mine does. The first time I got in, I was struck by how smooth it was and how quiet the engine runs compared to other makes. Overall, I think this car is one of the best on the road. I'm saving up to get one myself and I can't wait! There's really no question about it, I'm getting this car. By the way, it's a beautiful, lovely, and sexy car that I just can't stop loving!

With 138,000km on the odometer, my Lexus has proven to be a reliable vehicle. Although I have experienced some minor issues, such as creaks and rattles in the dash, and the transmission feeling lost when feathering the throttle below 20km/h, the car has been flawless overall. The only major repair I had to make was to the stainless steel exhaust pipe, which cost $1400 to fix. However, I was able to get it repaired at a local muffler shop for a fraction of the cost. Despite these minor issues, I remain confident in the quality and reliability of my Lexus.

I absolutely adore Lexus! Their cars are the epitome of elegance, reliability, class, and comfort. Not to mention, they're an absolute joy to drive. The RX 350 is my current ride, and while it's larger than what I'm used to, it's still a beautiful car that gets a satisfactory 22 miles per gallon. I'm even considering downsizing to a sedan again, most likely a hybrid Lexus or Prius. I've been a loyal Lexus owner since 1994, and I don't plan on changing that anytime soon. Even if tariffs become an issue, I'll still choose Lexus. I did have a bad experience with a repair shop once, but I learned my lesson. It's important to find a great shop and mechanic you trust, even if it means traveling a bit further. Overall, I highly recommend Lexus to anyone looking for a reliable and stylish car!

Just purchased this 2001 GS 300 with 108k miles. I got it for a great price, but I'm aware that the maintenance costs will be higher. I just ordered a new key fob for $290, which was a bit of a shock! The 15k mile service is also quite expensive, but other than that, I feel blessed to have such a great car!

The exterior and interior of the car were in great condition, and I was initially drawn to the car because of its overall consumer ratings. However, I did run into some issues with cupped tires just two weeks after purchasing the car, which was disappointing. Since then, I've had to take my GS300 back to the shop on a monthly basis for various problems. This car has unfortunately caused us a lot of trouble and expenses. Despite our efforts to maintain it properly, we have had to replace the water pump, radiator, timing, brakes, tires, two window motors, and deal with a major transmission problem. The check engine light is also on. We initially purchased the car for $6,200, but with all the repairs, it has cost us well over $10,000. However, we remain confident in our ability to handle any future issues that may arise.

I bought my GS 300 new in 1999. Although there have been some little irritations from the beginning that have driven me crazy, I still enjoy driving it. There is a shimmy and shake somewhere in the rear seat that comes and goes, and when the wheels are properly aligned, the steering wheel shakes. Additionally, there are some other annoying rattles in the front dash somewhere. However, I do love the GPS feature and the gas mileage around town of 19 MPH is reasonable. The seats are comfortable and the ride is fairly smooth. Although the car is not as quiet as I was expecting, it still meets my needs.
